    READ:
    NOTE 1: I've just tried the Insta360 Ace Pro, and whilst it did work with the DJI Mic 2, after a recent update, it doesn't work anymore. That is odd, but I've been told a fresh update is coming, hopefully one where we can turn off HDR on the Ace Pro, fingers crossed it gives us back connection to the wireless DJI Mic. I HAVE talked to Insta360 and they have found the problem and it should be updated in the next firmware update, so don't worry, your DJI Mic 2 should once again work with the Insta360 Ace Pro.
    NOTE 2: Mic 1 = DJI Mic. Mic 2 = DJI Mic 2. ( I know, that was sneaky)

    Thanks. Like watching your straight to the point reviews. A couple of questions. I like shooting nature and hearing people laugh in my street videos. If using the mic 2 with the ace pro, would I be able to pickup the ambient noise around me as well, or better than the built in mics? Second question: am I correct that all I need to actually purchase is the microphone if I want to use this with the ace pro? Thanks 🙏🏾

    Great review! I didn't expect them to be this similar. The only reason I'm looking to get a single Mic 2 is because I want to use it as an audio recorder and connect a Shure SM57 or SM7B without any Cloudlifter/Interface in between and see if I can bump the levels high enough and still get decent audio quality out of it.

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  4 місяці тому +1

      Thanks! That sounds crazy!! So I took 5 mins out of my day, unplugged the Shure SM7B from my Cloud CL-1 and straight into the Rode AI-1, usb-c into the DJI Mic 2, turned on 32-bit float and talked as I normally would, bumped the levels in FCPX and boom, works great.

    • @norrdal
      @norrdal 4 місяці тому

      @@PhillipSkraba Fantastic, thank you for giving it a try. I think it should even work with an XLR to 3.5mm cable without the Rode AI-1 in between. That would be a game changer for me if I can now record high quality dynamic mics without the need to buy interfaces and cloudlifters, all for 100$, is crazy. It would the ultimate portable recording setup plus, I can still use it with a lavalier, maybe even a shotgun, too. I guess anything that doesn't require phantom power should work. I need to get one ASAP 😁.

    Kind of a dumb question, but does the mic 2 fit into the case with the attached wind muffs? Personally, I leave my wind muffs permanently attached since I do 95% of my filming in the outdoors/windy environments. A core minor annoyance I had with the mic 1 was that I couldn't simply dock them into the case with the muffs attached, and had to remove them every time to get them to fit properly. Is there now enough clearance to dock the mic 2 into its respective carrying case with the muffs attached?

    • @PhillipSkraba
      @PhillipSkraba  4 місяці тому +1

      It's the stupidest thing they could have done, not fix that annoying problem! The Mic 2 case will NOT fit the dead fully cats, so you WILL have to take them off. This is not the case in the case of the case of the Rode Wireless GO Mic system, there you can keep them on which makes my life much more pleasant.

    • @EveryCountry
      @EveryCountry 4 місяці тому

      @@PhillipSkraba argh, DJI has been on this personal trend for me where they've gotten things 99% of the way there, but then that 1% makes things incredibly annoying. I recently got a pocket 3 after having both a pocket 1 and pocket 2, and the new centering behavior has been driving me insane. When the camera is set to rearview, centering now behaves like tilt-lock across all 3 modes. When the camera is set to selfie view, centering behaves like FPV across all 3 modes. @@PhillipSkraba if this turns out to be true, I'll likely not pay a premium for the DJI mic 2 and go for a lower priced 3rd party wireless mic setup. Most of my recordings will be using two mics needing to be adjusted separately in post (so I'll need to record in stereo). If I could record in stereo with the Pocket 3 built in receiver, I could justify the price. If only mono, it's not worth it for me. Thanks in advance for confirming.

      It's exactly the same, I still use my Rode Wireless GO 1, love it! It was a game changer.

      I pinned it to a comment on top. I found them to be identical, but then again I’m not a sound guy.

    No timecode
    No TRS locking
    Make the charging case more than just a charging case so you can get rid of the usb-c port on the transmitter: file offload, software upgrade, tc-sync,...
    Make it a little bit more expensive and add these features and I'll buy two
    now it's just a software upgrade
    I'm so dissapointed and hurt that they let rode win this round

      Rode makes microphones, that’s all there is to say on that topic. However, DJI has made some incredible strides for a company that makes drones and cameras. I’m betting DJI Mic 3 will be insanely good.

    MIC 1 is DJI Mic 2
    MIC 2 is DJI Mic 1
    That’s my guess, audio truly is very subjective and a little EQ goes a long way.

      I’ll pin what Mic is was to a comment in a few days. It’s amazing just how similar they are in sound.

    I don’t care if you are sponsored or not, I watched your videos anyway. But now I doubt if it’s even worth watching it when you have to say “not sponsored” even in your title.

      Well, I got mine at the same time as the others, but not from DJI, so I can say what I want, and show it off how I want, which makes quite the difference.
