Just to be clear, there are several receiver and combo options with the Lark M2 for connecting to different recording devices. Camera (TRS), USB-C, Lightning. One mic, Two mics, etc.
So, would you recommend the Lark M2 over the DJI Mic 2 for a beginner content creator? I have a fitness/sport channel and I find the Lark M2 handy for its size and would be less in the way when filmig the workout or challenges
I love the Hollyland Lark M2 sound more. I love DJI stuff in usual, but Hollyland Lark M2 is amazing, sound wise. I think I'll wait for number 3, see what new features and then decide.
My 2cents opinion, get both. Combo for Holly Lark M2 and transmitter only for DJI Mic 2. The total price still lower than the combo DJI MIC 2 alone. Can use widely for all devices.
@@Callum-tm6xo no. It cannot. What I meant, for those who still do not know which one to buy, can buy both like I mentioned. But usage is seperately based on needs.
Superimpressed with the Hollyland. For me it sounded better than the DJI. Jaw drop! I have a Fulaim X5 which I love. I also have a wired lav PurplePanda which is great but the audio quality drops when plugged into the Fulaim.
I like Hollyland sound better. It sounds very compact, more focused on the voice even outdoors, compared to dji that seems to pick up some ambiance in the room. And hearing you sound so close while being so far away looks ridiculous, especially with Hollyland
Can the Lark m2 be used without the receiver? one of the big benefits of the dji mic 2 is that you don't need a receiver, so you can buy a single unit at a fraction of the price
Dang! I was about to get the DJI Mic 2, also because I own the Osmo Pocket 3 but there's no comparison here. The Lark M2 wins hands down! So much more pleasant to the ear, in every condition. I thought the DJI sounded nice but without any comparisons with other products.
Thank you for this!! Do you know, if you get the combo version of Lark M2, does the charging case hold all the receivers (camera and phone) or can you change which one it holds if you only want to bring one of the systems?
If you get the M2 with The USBC, lightning and camera receivers The charging case will only hold the camera receiver and the two Mic's . The other two receivers for the phone Go in the bag that is supplied with the whole setup. Which includes two wind muffs , a charging cable three different versions of the magnet to hold the Mic's and stickers.
Be careful, the DJI fanboys might come after you! I had pre-ordered the DM2 and then canceled when I heard comparisons to the Rode Pro and thought it didn't sound as good. Call me crazy, but first and foremost a mic should be judged on sound quality and not all the ancillary features. On some other reviewer videos I had mentioned that I canceled the order and was going to stay with the Rode Pro and some people got all up in arms over that "It's 32 bit, sound quality doesn't matter when you can just eq it later and make it sound good and then you get all the features!" or.... and hear me out.... maybe I will just stay with a mic that I prefer the sound quality if because that is the #1 feature I care about. It's like some people just don't like how I chose to spend (or not spend!) my money. Never tried Hollyland, but I bought the Lark Max as a gift for my brother and he loved it. He might even like the M2 even more.
The Hollyland sounds fantastic, I think even DJI has to admit to that. The Rode Pro sounds incredible, used it a couple of times and it's superb. I'm not too bothered about the fan boys, I'm mean I'm a DJI drone fan boy but I'll tell them if they F up somewhere, like they did with the DJI Mic 2. They developed features before audio, which I think is a mistake. The whole point of a mic system is audio. 32-bit float is a cool safety net, but not one I actually ever use, though it could be beneficial in some use case scenarios.
@@PhillipSkraba "They developed features before audio, which I think is a mistake" this is the best summary of the DM2. I love DJI in general. I had the same issue with Rode but did find some matte covers which made a big difference in the visual aesthetics.
Hey Sir. Thanks for sharing this video. Imho inside the room i think the Hollyland sounds better but outside both are pretty similar quality. Is it possible to connect the Hollyland to the Dji action 5 cam? Thanks again.
Nice review! Is there a way to listen to/monitor the audio while recording to a camera or to the phone? Especially when using it with a camera, I can't imagine it's easy to tell how low or high the levels are with just those 3 leds on the receiver.
When you say you can't use a lot of lav mics with the DJI, are you referring to the fact that the input type doesn't allow you to use more expensive lav mics that typically use some type of pin layout for input, or that the standard jack doesn't receive input from other cheap standard headphone jack input?
I've had a few problems with audio drops with the DJI Mic 2, but clipping shouldn't be much of a problem considering it has 32-bit float as a safety net. I do however prefer the audio coming from the Hollyland.
Yeah, DJI really screwed up on this one. Let's hope the DJI Mic 3 will be better. Right now, if you want small go with the Lark M2, if you want more pro features go with the Rode Wireless Pro.

Anyone else think the DJI sounds more natural and the Lark sounds a bit synthetic? I just ordered the DJI Mic 2 but I may snag the M2 because it is super discreet! Great review!
Hmm, not too sure about that. I like how clear and deep the Lark M2 is, the Mic 2 sounds good, I won't say it doesn't, but I feel the Lark M2 sounds better. Well, for its price it's worth having, so small!
I want to live stream from my phone while fishing. Wind can be my biggest enemy. Which one do you think I should choose? Maybe later I'll buy an action camera and live stream from there.
Hollyland sounds great right out of the gate, but no lav and the silly-sized wind muff make it a no for me. The Mic 2 sounds great after some EQ which I would expect to do with any mic.
@@PhillipSkraba I’m more disappointed by by how the wind muff makes it look like you have a hairy mouse on your chest and it increases the size by a lot. It’s useless outside with that issue.
@AndrewVanBeekOttawa hahaha, a little yes, but it does a good job when it’s on, was testing it yesterday with the kids and it was super windy, and the dead kitty cat did a superb job at cutting the wind.
My issue with these products is they are rechargeable batteries wrapped with audio electronics, so they have a shelf life. The Lark M2 is small but this means the battery could last even less. I currently work with 2 rode filmaker kits and have a sarmonic 2 chanel reciever on my camera, its clunky but it works just fine.
Well, I don't think size makes much of a difference when it comes to quality of battery, so I'm not worried about that. My Hollyland Lark 150 or whatever the hell it's called is dead, so that does make me fear if they've put better batteries into the Lark M2. Right now it's a superb system, and IF they make the Lark M3 with bluetooth, and a 3.5mm jack, add 32-bit float, it will dominate. The sound is great. The Rode kits are by far the best, you can't compete with them.
Would this mic work with a sony zve-10? I was on the fence between these 2. Advertising for me in the UK is selling these as more smartphone focused than proper cameras. Hollyland £139, DJI Mk 2 £250 whats your advice based on that?
Thanks for your sharing now i know which mic i should go for Apparently i got mic 2 with po3 . But hesitate to get extra mic. Now i know how to choose I will go for m2
Excellent review mate! But let me tell you my story with Lark M2 & how it saved my life today Lol. I was in an important call today and suddenly my Bose NC 700's mic gave up after 3 good long years of use. One of the attendees messaged me that I was sounding like I was talking from the depths of well. I took a pause from the meeting and immediately jumped for Lark M2. and let me tell you what a great decision it was. After the call the same person called me and said what Magic did you do as you were sounding like if you were using a studio mic. SO my friend! This is how good this M2 mic is. P.S I am still holding on to my DJI Mic 2 and haven't opened it yet as don't get time and thinking of returning it but will wait for DJI Lab Mice to arrive. Heard they sound great with DJI's own labs.
The Hollyland Lark M2 is an excellent choice if you don't really need all the bells and whistles DJI is offering in the Mic 2, and personally I think just the DJI Mic 2 for $99 is worth it for bluetooth audio, for the rest of it I'd pick up the Lark M2 or the Rode Wireless Pro if you really want 32-bit float and a pro system. I picked up the DJI Lav too, didn't really have an option as it doesn't work with a load of lavs from other companies.
Ok is rhe Lark 2 going to work with insta 360 X4 as seamless as the DJI mic 2? I dont have a either yet just the X4 and wondering where i should throw my money at.
In lieu of the X4, you mentioned to get the DJI mic 2, which I agree. The question is are there features unavailable on the mic without the receiver that are necessary?
Make sure ENC is off and switch the receiver to mono. Turn your in-camera gain down to its lowest setting and turn the receiver up. Also, a big benefit of the M2, because it's magnetic, is the ability to place it center of your chest. That's where lavs sound the best so try that too.
What I like most is the size, no logo and the adequate sound quality. I could see myself using it for behind the scenes or quick reaction stuff where ppl don't want to be laved up. I agree the noise canceling is terrible. Only downside I could foresee is wifi interference (without internal rec. backup) and longevity of non replaceable batteries.
Have you ever done a side by side with movo? Say, like the movo duo mini? I use that and a power dewise lav; I know they are not the best but I would like to hear a comparison. It is the better budget option, not everyone can afford dji or the elite brands.
I spent 20 years without it, and even with it as an option now, I never need to use it, so not really, unless you have no absolutely no idea how to set levels.
@@PhillipSkraba Yeah, that's fair, but when you realize during editing that a scene had too quiet or too loud audio for whatever reason, having it is extremely nice. The ability to record without clipping no matter the volume or boost gain without quality lose is again just a nice to have that most would never have to depend on, but it's close to a miracle when you do need it.
Well, it does cost an extra $100, but for that you're getting internal recording, the option to use a lav mic and a bit better build quality. If those are things you need, then sure, but for me the Lark M2 seems to do the job, and I really love the size of it. I'm guessing the Lark Max will have similar audio quality, which you can hear is very clear but full at the same time.
Good video. I have the Lark M2 and it's great for use with a camera, mobile phone, and even with my MacBook Pro. It's a bit of an apples to oranges comparison with the DJI Mic 2. DJI Mic 2 customers may be more demanding for onboard recording and the ability to split the two transmitters into two channels even when recording via mobile phone. You can only do that with the Lark M2 when recording to camera via the camera receiver.
I've read you can use cable adapters to connect the camera receiver to an iPhone which allows for 2-channel recording. Basically, with an iPhone you do the following: iPhone -> Lightning port adapter -> TRS to TRRS cable -> Camera Version RX (Hollyland M2 receiver with the volume control knob). I haven't tried this myself, but others have noted that this works with the Lark M2 and an iPhone. Oh, and I think there is a setting on the camera receiver to choose between stereo and mono. I have no idea which one of those needs to be selected to enable 2-channel recording.
The HL M2 is actually quite nice! Even the noise reduction was not as tragic as in the case of DJI. However, I would love to see this microphone in action with the wind muff. M2 is the perfect solution for me because I record... while running. Therefore the weight + magnetic mount are key.
Another great comparison review as always Phillip. Thank you very much and if I still didn't have my old Rode Wireless Go, yes the original one, then I'd give the Lark M2 serious consideration. Thanks again for a great review and stay warm over there. BTW a beautiful sunny 25 degrees celsius here in Sydney Australia🙂 And as always a BIG thumbs up.
I would also recommend giving a try to Hohem Mic-01. Another amazing Mic , focused toward mobile videographers but still great utility mic. Could be used with DJI Action 4 and DJI Pocket 3 and sounds great. + point. Has the ability to record audio on board the mic and uses a MicroSD Card.
I have Lark M2 it sounds good. And hopefully DJI mic transmitter will get it by tomorrow for pocket 3. But M2 is way better than DJI. However DJI is more flexible to use
Hollyland Lark M2 is a magnificent piece of audio tech. Literally DESTROYS (cannot emphasize enough) the DJI Mic 2 , in terms of Audio quality. Your voice , in Lark M2 sounds so much more crystal clear and satisfying...... showcasing beyond any doubt that the 32bit audio is totally worthless when audio levels are properly controlled. Same stands for the comparison against RODE Wireless PRO 2 mics , which i have heard in other video comparison reviews. On top of everything else , the Value for Money of the Hollyland Mic is C R A Z Y ....... Thank you for your effort and all this valuable information. Keep walking!!!
I think the bottom line here is that most mics out there currently sound better than the DJI Mic 2, which is a huge shame. The audio on the DJI Mic 2 sounds the same as the DJI Mic 1, and I thought they would improve the audio whilst adding new features, so I'm quite disappointed in DJI as are many people right now. The Hollyland Lark M2 sounds very good, especially considering its price and size. Thanks!
I've been using the Lark M2 for a month now, having switched to that from the first generation dji, which I still have. I much prefer the sound and flexibility of the Hollyland. I did my own review on my channel when I first got the Lark and haven't changed my view that it's the best 'plug-and-play' mic for traveling vloggers like me.
Great job on your demonstration Phillip! I was thinking of getting the DJI Mic 2 mainly for the 32bit float, but now I'm leaning more towards the Hollyland M2 because it just sounds way better!!
The holly mark sounds so much better and the dji even seemed to clip some without NR. I hope dji fixes that stuff. Personally I still lean toward the features of the dji, but I’m not doing pro audio either. Great video though, not just straight commercials and fanboys like most of the dji mic 2 videos.
I'm surprised at just how bad the DJI NR is, I don't like using it anyway, but Hollyland has much better NR, and Saramonic has great NR too. Maybe DJI needs some more time and maybe when the Mic 3 comes out the audio will be much better as I don't know if they can fix all this in an update or two. Thanks!

Thank You! Glad you liked it!
I don’t trust the Bluetooth a lot. So cabled or otg is more good and reliable connection
I agree, but it’s good to have that option.
Hollyland sounds great right out of the gate, but no lav and the silly-sized wind muff make it a no for me. The Mic 2 sounds great after some EQ which I would expect to do with any mic.
Yes, massive shame about lack of lav mic, the size is great though, especially considering it sounds cleaner than the DJI.
Stop complaining mannnn
I think for $350 everyone has a right to complain if something is off, well unless you have more money than sense.
thanks so much
You're welcome!
@@PhillipSkraba I suppose at £120 for the usbc kit, if it lasts 3 years, then thats not to expensive. I expect that kit will be £100 within a year.
Would this mic work with a sony zve-10? I was on the fence between these 2. Advertising for me in the UK is selling these as more smartphone focused than proper cameras. Hollyland £139, DJI Mk 2 £250 whats your advice based on that?
Same question I got, would it work with a zve10 like a charm?
@@Ololololommyes
There is some hissing on ambiant M2 :(
Yeah? I don’t hear it on my side.
Noticed that too!!
Hollyland is TOP 👌🏻
Which rode shotgun mic are you using exactly?
The VideoMic Go II, love it to bits. Absolutely zero thinking.
can you also compare lark m2 and rode wireless pro?
When I get a second, sure I can try doing that.
Thank you for this excellent review which defintely helped making my decision much easier :D
You're welcome!
Thanks for your sharing now i know which mic i should go for
Apparently i got mic 2 with po3 .
But hesitate to get extra mic.
Now i know how to choose
I will go for m2
And one more thing finally I found someone sound like David Beckham
Is a compliment
Question: Does the m2 can put windscreen?
Great review! Thank you :)
Thanks!
@@PhillipSkraba You are absolutely right
Omg best review everrrrr thanks bro🙂
Thank You!
Great job dude! Sold! (Lark M2)
The holly land M2 is really impressive with the feature set and price they are hitting!
I am absolutely blown away at the audio quality from the Hollyland Lark M2, it’s super clean!
Compared to the mic one from DJI I'd rather have a Hollyland M2s
I agree, the Hollyland M2 is excellent in audio quality.
Ok is rhe Lark 2 going to work with insta 360 X4 as seamless as the DJI mic 2? I dont have a either yet just the X4 and wondering where i should throw my money at.
I’d pay the $99 and get the DJI Mic 2 if you will be using it with the X4, no wires no hassle.
@@PhillipSkraba good point! I thought maybe the lark would be able to be wireless as well.
I talked to Hollyland at NAB and told them to add that to the next version, but I'm not sure they're interested in such magic.
In lieu of the X4, you mentioned to get the DJI mic 2, which I agree. The question is are there features unavailable on the mic without the receiver that are necessary?
How does the Hollyland compare with the Saramonic BlinkMe B2
Both very good in sound quality, better than the DJI, both lack a lav input, similar price, small size vs custom digital logos.
Awesome review! Thanks ❤
Thanks!
I thought I heard DGI instead of DJI repeatedly.
That is very possibly. Very.
My audio isn’t as crisp as yours with the Lark M2. Please guide
It all depends on how close you hold it to your mouth, I had mine on 2/3 and 10 on my Sony.
@@PhillipSkraba Is 10 on Sony same as increasing volume by 10 dB in the post?
Make sure ENC is off and switch the receiver to mono. Turn your in-camera gain down to its lowest setting and turn the receiver up. Also, a big benefit of the M2, because it's magnetic, is the ability to place it center of your chest. That's where lavs sound the best so try that too.
Lark 2 for me is the best for now.
It's a very good one, yes.
Now I Won't Regret Having DJI Mic 2...I Have Hollyland Lark Max 👍🏻❤️
The Hollyland mics are very good.
Have you ever done a side by side with movo? Say, like the movo duo mini? I use that and a power dewise lav; I know they are not the best but I would like to hear a comparison. It is the better budget option, not everyone can afford dji or the elite brands.
I’m afraid not, never tried it before. That’s true, it’s fairly costly for some.
No 32bit float support on the M2's is an absolute deal breaker. Personally, I think the DJI's sound better anyway.
I do agree, it is extremely helpful if you find yourself in a sticky situation.
Would you rather get the Lark M2 or the Lark Max?
Well, it does cost an extra $100, but for that you're getting internal recording, the option to use a lav mic and a bit better build quality. If those are things you need, then sure, but for me the Lark M2 seems to do the job, and I really love the size of it. I'm guessing the Lark Max will have similar audio quality, which you can hear is very clear but full at the same time.
The lark m2 sounds better ngl
Basically, with an iPhone you do the following:
iPhone -> Lightning port adapter -> TRS to TRRS cable -> Camera Version RX (Hollyland M2 receiver with the volume control knob).
I haven't tried this myself, but others have noted that this works with the Lark M2 and an iPhone.
Oh, and I think there is a setting on the camera receiver to choose between stereo and mono. I have no idea which one of those needs to be selected to enable 2-channel recording.
thanks for the review, ill stick with dji mic 2, fiy asmr is pure torture if you suffer from misophonia!
The HL M2 is actually quite nice! Even the noise reduction was not as tragic as in the case of DJI. However, I would love to see this microphone in action with the wind muff. M2 is the perfect solution for me because I record... while running. Therefore the weight + magnetic mount are key.
For running it’s perfect, small and compact, much lighter than the DJI. Yes, the NR is a lot less robot than what DJI have done.
nobody is going to talk about him whispering sweet nothings into our ears??????
shh 🤫
Wow
Thanks!
The Lark M2 is a great mic, I am really enjoying it Kym! 25!!? Here it’s still freezing.
The Hohem? Hohem has been innovating hard recently, they make pretty cool products.
@@PhillipSkraba Sorry my bad. Yes Hohem. And Indeed they have raised their game
Hohem are up and coming, I agree.
I have Lark M2 it sounds good. And hopefully DJI mic transmitter will get it by tomorrow for pocket 3. But M2 is way better than DJI. However DJI is more flexible to use
The Hollywood Lark M2 does sound a lot better than the DJI Mic 2, I really don’t get what DJI did wrong. Well, good on Hollyland anyway 🤘🏻
Hollyland launched this mic before dji but only because of marketing DJI create more hype then this.
It's a very good mic as you can hear, for $200 it sounds better than the DJI, but with less features.
Hollyland Lark M series never failed 🥂
I hope the reliability is good, as the Lark 150 I have is dead. The sound is amazing.
@@PhillipSkraba great video btw! Thank you 🥂
Lark M2 is way better 😬
It’s excellent, yes.
Nice video
Thank You!
Thanks!
Sent the DJI Mic 2 back to Amazon. Can't playback audio on a smartphone so it's useless. Gather that'll be a feature in DJI Mix 3. SHAME ON YOU DJI
It's a good mic, but it doesn't compare when it comes to sound quality to the Hollyland.
I 😂 I 😢 I ❤ 😊
Thanks!!
I think the DJ sounds terrible.
The DJ or the DJI, as I'm normally the DJI in my household!
Fantastic audio quality from the Hollyland Lark M2 , this proves that you don't necessarily need the most expensive. Great review Phillip 👍
Yes, I totally agree!! Hollyland did a great job with the audio quality on this mic, I'm positively taken back.
I hate to say it because ive just purchased a DJI Mic 2 but i thought the M2 was a lot clearer, crisper and louder than the DJI. Great review Philip 👍
Thank You! Yes, I agree, the Hollyland seemed a lot clearer!
Great job on your demonstration Phillip! I was thinking of getting the DJI Mic 2 mainly for the 32bit float, but now I'm leaning more towards the Hollyland M2 because it just sounds way better!!
It really does sound pretty impressive, and I was expecting it to sound crappy, but in my opinion it sounds really great!
I finally got the Hollyland Lark M2 and love it so much, sounds sooooo good. Thanks for helping me made a decision! @@PhillipSkraba
Hollyland for amateurs. If you make money from your gear DJI. Simples.
Well, if it’s between those two, yes. In reality though, it’s rare a pro would choose DJI for a mic. Simples 🙄
The DJI sounds horrible
It’s better since the update, but the Hollyland has a really good clean sound, it’s hard to beat.
Thanks!
