- Lighting has been on and off because of the weather - your girl doesn’t know anything about lighting herself so my apologies. Today I am seeing if I can recreate this beautiful shelving unit I came across on @dulcetcreative ’s Instagram page ( / bhrsrqsnlny ) …and oh my gaaaash, I’m dead. I absolutely love this shelving unit and hope I broke it down to a place any level of you feel comfortable executing. Thanks for letting me recenter last week - felt a little lost in this industry and my projects were not up to what I know I am capable of…but I’m back and stronger than ever! Stay rad xx.

I don't know how anyone can not like this video. These shelves are gorgeous. I'm totally making some for my plants. Thank you for an awesome, thorough video.
Thank you for this!
I love that you film your videos in practical clothing for the job at task. No point in ruining good clothing & tossing it into the rag pile.
Oh I am a mess 99% of the time.
I swear your diy’s are always amazing but your thought process and the way you execute things always blows my mind! You make it look so effortless! Also, you could try putting the rope in a mesh bag and just tossing it in your washing machine to get rid of the smell.
Love that little elevator scene with you whispering to yourself “gentlegentlegentle” lol!!
Thank you so much for that tip Lauryn! I had to add that in there since I didn't even realize I was doing it haha.

Cali always has to be the star of the show! I’ve been wanting to do this for awhile in my home but I wasn’t quite sure how. Definitely going to try and do this now!
Thank you for the love Kelsey! She is such a diva that dog of mine.
Omg! I am blown away by your talent and I couldn't keep my eyes off that triangular case in the back! Definitely watching that next. So beautiful!
Thank you!
That little knot trick at the top was cool. Love the look, Rachel!
Thank you my dude! Hope we can meet IRL xx.
@@LivingtoDIYwithRachelMetz me too!
FINALLY a woman who knows her tools! I love this diy!
Trying and sharing my process xx.
Like literally, I made my husband to watch all of your videos. Because I want all these diys in my house !!!!!!!
Haha thank you!
So I JUST finished using your build to make my own hanging shelves and I AM SO PROUD. this was my first wood project ever and it turned out better than I could have imagined. I used a circle saw to add holes to put plants into and it worked perfectly. Thank you!! Your videos are so helpful 💕
Oh hell yeah!
Amazing result. Your explanation, information and demonstration are enough to make me want to try to make this project. I can't wait to see more of your videos.
Oh that is my main goal Jackie! Thanks for taking the time to comment and show love xx.
Well done Rachel I am glad you decide it to build it yourself and show people that it is possible to build stuff instead of always buying it.
I consider this a Rachel original I never thought about hanging shelves.
In my opinion you do good at designing and knowing how to make things look good
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that xx.
Looks great. Your videos are fun to watch. Thank you. I plan to make a mini one, 3 shelves about a foot long each to hang in front of the obnoxiously long mirror in my bathroom.
Can't wait to see what you do!
Rachel!! This is one of the coolest builds I've ever seen done on UA-cam!! When my wife and I are finally blessed with a child we agreed we would do a Nautical Mediterranean theme for the nursery(as we are both Greek). I think this shelf would be bad ass to add to the nursery!!! Greetings from the other coast, Dirty Jersey out!!!!
Congrats! Add some command strips behind the shelves so the baby can't pull them over!
Perfect timing for this video. Looks like a good winter project. I'll tackle this along one side of our garage to start and then probably along the garage door side afterward. Will probably swap in some 2x4s, but I definitely like the simplicity of the design (it works really nicely for 10' ceilings). Might throw on some stain (or just paint) to dress it up a notch! 2:39
This is still one of my favorites!
I was looking for a hanging shelf video so I can start growing micro greens , lettuce and herbs. I live in a tiny studio 187 sqft but i have a huge window facing south. Ive looked at 20 at least and yours with how you explain everything is it. Subscribed and cant wait to see what you have on your other videos. I love working with wood too. You did a fantastic job. Thank you much.
it looks great! you made it WAY to difficult but it looks great! you couldn't pay me to use those hooks either. i've lost so many plants to them and heir so called "weight limits." i used porch swing hooks and painted the same color as my ceiliing. they each have a weight limit of 300lbs. for those that don't want to trust just drywall (WHICH i don't trust with anything heavier than a light photo frame.) you can use just 1 of the swing hooks. pull the two sides together. you need to make your top shelf shorter or you tope at the top longer. it still looks beautiful. as long as your not putting a shelf full of books or a stereo on one of these shelfs a 1" board is going to be fine for most daily uses. however, if you should notice it bowing simply untie your knots and flip it over. for those of you that don't have the clamps (not that expensive, but still a luxury in the begining) don't fret, you don't need them! simply measure out where you want yoou knots put you boards on. tie the knots do this with all the shelves. hang it. put a level on your shelf. and adjust as needed. i personally wanted a rich dark wood look so i burned mine. took a torch to it, sanded off the creosite with an 80 grit, went back with a 180 put on a a layer of polyurathane clear satin, sanded it with 320, and then gave it another coat of poly. the whole soaking of the rope is an unnecessary step. put on a pair of cheap work gloves if your worried about your hands. you can get them at any dollar tree store for $1.25 same with some cheap clamps and a level. i personally go to Harbor freight for my tools as a diyer, you don't need state of the art name brand things. and what they sell work perfectly fine. for diy projects. and allows me to save up for bigger/better equipment while still allowing to do things now.
Ive been waiting for this one since you showed us a sneak peak when you redid your workshop door. LOVE IT !!! Definitely adding to my "one day" list? Always an amazing inspiration Rachel 💛
Thank you so much! You are the best xx.
This is Amaz-ing. Girl, you rock! Totally going to attempt this.
This is still my favorite DIY still xx.
HMMMM... This actually gave me an idea to do something similar for a hanging plant. I love how handy you are 😊
Thank you so much Ruth!
Girl this turned out amazing!!!!!
Ah thank you!
I absolutely LOVEEEEEEE this shelf! I can only pray that I can make it as good as you did. Thanks for sharing!
You will make it better!
Awww thanks, you’re a beast! ❤️
Yes I love it! My favorite thing about it is that there is no interference when cleaning the floor underneath 😄 besides it looking great, of course ❤❤❤ Hehe your pup taking when you're talking is the same problem I have with my birds 😁
Thank you so much love xx.
Oh yeah! Finding studs before the start of this project will be a good idea too!I wouldn’t have thought of that
OBSESSED!!! This is one of my favorite DIY videos of yours!
One of mine as well!
@@LivingtoDIYwithRachelMetz If you don't mind me asking, where did you purchase your rope?
I think I mention in the video - Home Depot! The largest thickness they had available.
@@LivingtoDIYwithRachelMetz You actually never mentioned HD or any other store but you replied back, so thank you so much!! Huge fan of your work :)
Well done, you go Girl.... I love it.
Any DIYs on wood door screens...something out of the BOX...
Oh hell yes! Thank you!
Bravooooo!!! Looks great!
Appreciate that xx.
For me your videos so calms and relaxing and satisfaying
That means the world to me. I legit get so overwhelmed by some DIY videos.
Where has this seamless knot trick been all my life!
🖤
Just made a version of this for my kitchen window. I’m just as stoked on mine as you were with yours. Thanks so much for the video it was incredibly helpful!
Isn't it so beautiful!!
Wow! Amazing 🙏 I met your channel yesterday morning and since then I already watched around 10 videos and loved it all 😻 Thank you!
Oh my god! Thank you!
You need a stage & cameras following you around!
We're in the middle of remodeling an attached in-law apartment into a master bedroom & I was pulling my hair out until I came across your channel (while at work 😅) You are amazing girl! Y gracias for all the inspiration!!
Thank you so much for the love!
This is too pretty!
AMAZING👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾If I didn’t love you and this channel so much for education I would be so damn jealous. Girl! This is amazing. I bet this would cost 200$ in a store which I would pay for cuz I’m lazy and not handy. 😭. Just imagine how much money you save by being crafty. Bravo to you boo! Omg I to have that frame by the flower....got mine from zgallerie. (Of course they over-charge)
Thank you so much my love!
i can absolutely relate
Glad I got to watch this video it's clean. Wow its a shelf but #diy which makes it way cooler plus it's cool the way you did it. Much love Rach

@@tamara80624 🥰🥰 thanks, you too!!
Beautiful and textured.
Thank you!
Ohh. My. Goodness! I need this. Shelves = storage. Storage not on the floor = space saver and happy momma 😄♥️🙏🏼
Thank you for the love and support!
Looks great Rachel! I'd probably run into it and something would fall off and break! Kiss to Cali! ♥️
Haha thank you for the love Gina - kisses back from Cal!
my mother and I are making this just so things don't fall off the back of it you could probably use double sided tape (very strong)
I NEED this in my room! Literally so cute!!!
Thank you!
As always, I LOVE your DIYs girl! So inspiring, thank you!
You are to sweet - thank you!
Really, really well done!
This is amazing! 🤩

Good Video! Make sure to cut off those small slivers of wood on the other side of the blade on the table saw. Makes them more accurate and its much safer. My wife is excited to add this for our laundry room.
Appreciate that xx.
You are the perfect example of "love what you, do what you love"
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much love!
Thank you for this. I have an rv with these awkward closets next to the bed. 😝 Ive been thinking hanging shelves would make them much more mariekono ready. Watching your video showed me what i need to think about...how to hang them so they dont pull out if the top!! Seems basic, but i would have made them and not thought about it beforehand if i hadnt watched you. So, thank you. Ill go out and poke around and see whatwill work before i desing them now.
Thank you for taking the time to show love! I am hyped these inspired you xx.
Thanks for not criticizing my typos. As i re-read it, im embarrassed. Keep going you're as good at these vids as you are at the diy projects!
One of my top favs!! Love this one!!
Really appreciate the love and support xx.
You NEVER cease to AMAZE... This is so dope. I love how this came out 😍
Thank you so much!
Looks awesome! That was a great technique you made up for getting the shelves to be level, well done!
Thank you so much!
Obsessed with this! I want one!!!
It's one of my favorites!
YES!!! I’ve been looking for this video 🖤🥰🖤 STUNNING!!!
i love ur shirt, it looks so cozy!
Aw thank you!
Hi, your video is so good and is helping for creating the shelves myself. Thank you for taking the time to record and share. Question where did you purchase the rope?
Home Depot!
I'm so into this!! Nice job, Rachel!
Thank you Andrea!
Super cute!!!! I might do one on both sides of my daughter bedroom window
AH! I love that so much.
It looks fabulous, I have just one question, not sure if I missed it but how far from the wall do you hang your hooks?
This is so awesome!!! I just found your channel, I’ve never held a power tool but now I’m so curious. My husband and I are on the hunt for our first house and I’m going to have to invest in some tools to start my own DIY projects. So inspirational!!!!
Wow thank you love! I can't wait to see what tool you pick up first.
The main advantage is that it can be just taken off and collapsed for packing instantly and vice versa. This is a great idea, you should replace the knots to have adjustable lengths/heights of the shelves but it is wobbly inherently without some springs in between the corners , but that is much more complicated to keep them from slipping out and hurting/damaging people /objects .
Using just metal screws along a incision along the height would be better in that case unless you really need to have h the shelves art weird angles for some reason.
Nevertheless if using hanging shelves then using things like velcro straps or magnets or anti slip tape would be good to prevent things from falling off .
Starting today! I love the frayed ends, it gives it such a boho look that I am totally inspired by. I am new subscriber!
When I made rope shelves, I just put masking tape on the end I was working in to tie and go through the holes. I also wasn't able to hang the shelves up as I worked until they were already put together and had to use a glass of wine as a level when I was evening it out after the fact. It was a struggle lol.
Turned out amazing Rach! I wish I had somewhere for one of my own 😍
Also I feel you with the Cali sass - Belle has got some serious attitude today! 🐶🙄
Thank you so much! Dude Cali is always a sass but that's why we love them xx.
@@LivingtoDIYwithRachelMetz Absolutely, they are worth it! 😍
I just subscribe. I really enjoy how detailed and real you keep it.
Thank you!
You are so talented!
Really appreciate that xx.
I will never make these shelves, but I love seeing the thought process! :)
Really appreciate that!
Loooooove this one! If you ever have to do more drilling through thick wood like that they have a bit called a hole saw which basically cuts out a cookie of wood! Blew my mind when I found out that exists. 😂
I have those as well but I hate using them haha.
That looks great!!
Thank you!
This is so freakin cool!!! I got to try it when i get a place or when i redo my parents basement!
This came out bomb!! Great job as usual!
Thank you love!
you are an hard working lady; claps for you that's wonderfull, thanks a lot im going to try
Thank you!
LOVE!! 😍😍super cute !
Thank you!
Beeswax & baking in a low temp oven will condition your rope for next time and soften the teeth. Natural fiber rope (I.e. jute, hemp, coconut fibers) don’t love being soaked in water or thrown into a washing machine. Running beeswax over the fibers with a pair of sturdy gloves will not only soften it, but also help to mask the smell of Kerosene which is what is used to make the natural fiber ropes found in craft stores like Michael’s. You can purchase beeswax from Michael’s in the candle making section.
Hope that helps!
Thank you for this!
Where did you find the rope? Also, how thick is the rope? Love the Shelf! It turned out beautiful. Thanks for the great idea and demonstration!
I absolutely love it, but where did you purchase the rope?
I LOVE it!! Great job!
Thank you Paula!
This looks GORGEOUS, Rachel! You did such a great job!
Quick question: how does one make sure each shelf is completely level? You made it look so perfect!
When you hang it up, you can place a level and adjust the knots where necessary! Thanks for all your love xx.
Living to DIY with Rachel Metz thank you much for your reply! Much appreciated!
Perfect timing! Looking for ideas for my plants. Beautiful project.
Quick question...whats the color of the accent wall?
Very Navy by Behr!
