Hi everyone this week we got something different, my mate Nathan is getting rid of the ZD30 out of his Patrol and putting in a M57 out of a BMW X5. Hope you enjoy.
Hi guys I’ve been planning to do the same conversion in the near future it should be an excellent match , there are lots of BMW’s around here in Oz with good donor motor’s just waiting . There are quite a few people in Europe that have done the conversion, interested to see what transmission you are using I was thinking of using the Zf6 speed manual out of a sedan as they’re quite strong and give you a 6th gear for highway use which the Patrols need so badly. Anyway look forward to watching future episodes 😂

It's an awesome choice for motor replacement and Nath was super keen to do the auto conversion with it but his donor auto wasn't as good as they told him it was got it checked over and they said needed a rebuild, so he is going down the Nissan 5 speed manual option 👍🏻

You can literally put anything in a gu, there a big car and I think 6” wider then the gq so you could probably put a cat c15 in there given it doesn’t hit the diff and under body parts 😂

The e53 3.0d have the m57 and so do the e70 3.0d, 3.0sd (twin turbo) and the xdrive35d, up to 2008. We did get the m57 in the 530d and 535d in the e60 we did not get the m57 in any of the 3 series unfortunately in Australia
I'm not the one to say different, but the Bmw engine will last half of that Nissan engine! The weight says is all! Different size of rods, pistons, everything...Yes, it has a lot more power and torque, but longevity no!
Thanks for the comment mate. Naths done a lot of research along with another mate dion. Also there's heaps and heaps of them in Europe. It's my motor of choice at the moment when my funds are available and the zd30 dies 😂🤣😂🤣
Im from EU. M57 is very durable engine. Many patrols are converted to m57 engines in EU. Early ones where 190hp,they go up to 280hp factory standard. Also mercedes engines are put in patrols. When my zd30 '06, blows,i ll putt also m57.

Those m57 standard airboxes are such a headfuk as a mechanic trying to change the air filter 😂, I want to do this conversion on my GU eventually

What was the year and model of the donor Vehicle?
I didn't think we got the m57 in Australia.
E53 and E70 x5 have them depending on the sub model. Maybe some other diesel 3/5 series but not sure.

Big rods well balanced motor roller rockers very well built motor with good maintenance there get well over 400ks. Massive improvement on ZD30.

The rods on these are absolutely massive, same with the pistons
