I had my surgery a week ago, it’s true very little pain because u r numb. Numbness doesn’t go away for awhile. The hardest part is your diet and numbness, my opinion, but think of it your numbness is for brief time. I see my jaw profile (it’s corrective) and I am sooo happy I did it!!!! 😊

Had my upper and lower jaws repositioned the Monday after Thanksgiving. The doctor is spot on. Almost no pain post op. I spent three days in the hospital then went home (I had a low O2 count). As far as energy I was wiped out for about a week and half. I’m at the stage of using the rubber bands. Finally I can remove them to eat soft foods. Today I had pasta with eggs and salsa. I'm 1+ week post double jaw surgery. right after surgery and the whole week after I was in massive pain, because I didn't lose any sensation at all, there was almost 0 numbness. The doc said it was a good thing and I was quite lucky cuz my nerve endings are quite close to where the bone was cut so I would've had a moderate chance of losing sensation permanently, but that still doesn't take away my horror of a day 0 and day 1 experience. They gave me all the painkillers they could and I still couldn't sleep well for two days. As of now it's much better, and because I had no numbness I could drink from a straw instead of a syringe from day one so that was great. Can't wait for my hamster face to subside.

Just had my double jaw surgery almost a week ago and the pain is minimal from the surgery itself however, I did get wisdom teeth removed while they were in there and it is THAT, that hurts like crazy at random times with pulses. I agree that yeah it’s super annoying to not eat properly but for me it’s been breathing and the hooks from the braces. My nose is like ultra sensitive and anything above a warm temp air, BURNS my nose. I’m ordering a steamer to help minimize that. The hooks just rub the cheeks a bit. The days do get better and better honestly but it’s just the small discomforts that make it. Time for some One Piece and soup.

That being said after a week and by day 10 I was feeling really good. I played golf, went out more again and the days started to go by faster. Appetite wise I could eat eggs, avocado/guac, chili, and by day 15 I had my first lasagna which was hard to chew at first but by day 21 anything pasta-like or softer was v manageable.
For me having the elastics in were annoying and made my teeth hurt but it gets better but I had to use 2x extra strength elastics on both sides.
Mobility wise it wasn't bad, I wasnt wired shut or anything and I could open my mouth slightly/chew to eat for the most part and this got better fast as time went on.
my last takeaway is that you wont really notice how fast time and your recovery after 2 weeks post op. it gets much easier and tbh you can challenge your mouth to chew more and more. its only the middle part of the first 10 days where you get really sick of liquids, the medication (antibiotics, painkillers, etc) and extra teeth cleaning routine becomes really draining.
Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes :)

You might be over it by now since its been a few days, but I hear numbness can last from 6 months up to a year in certain areas, but generally does come back. So even if its not back yet, it probably will.

Mewing doesn't change your jaw composition...if u are at the point where you have been approved for jaw surgery it's cause you need it....the internet will never provide better advice than your own medical practitioners

Is anyone else on a clear liquids diet only? I’m on my 3rd week and I have a feeling I will be on this diet until week 6. No soft food diet so far for me. 🥲
