    the surgery I had was not near as bad as i’d been scared to believe. I would do it three times over. SO worth it. I could tell immediately that there was so much relief on my joint that I didn’t know I needed. I no longer have pressure or headaches or anything

    I’m just about to turn 19 and currently have my braces on. I have an extremely bad underbite that makes me struggle to talk properly, eat properly and also just makes me feel very self conscious in general. I’ve been having appointments about jaw surgery for about 7/8 years now but obviously couldn’t get anything done as I was still very young and I was still growing. Luckily I think I’ll be having my surgery at some point next year (I got my braces on last August) and I truly believe it will be the most life changing thing that will ever happen to me. I don’t know if you live in the US but if you have Kaiser, they will pay for it 100% or you will only have to pay a $250 or $500 deductible if they classify it as medically neccessary. I went to an orthodontist last week and he told me mine was medically necessary and that he was going to write a referral and write them a letter. I hope everything works out for you ✝️🙏

    I had double jaw surgery plus bone graphing done back in 2013 for an extreme underbite. I also had to be wired shut for a full 2 months. BEST DECISION EVER! No more pain plus I look so much better. I had no idea going into it that I would look so different and now, almost 10 years later, I am weirdly obsessed with this surgery lol. The jaw surgery procedure is so fascinating and intense (: also, if anyone has any questions or concerns about jaw surgery feel free to comment. I’m always happy to give advice 🧡

      How long was it to recover or be able to go back to normal day life like school and work or stuff like that? I recently found out I will be needing one and I’m honestly really stressed out. I also have school so I’m stressing about that too. I have college class so I really can’t take a long time without going. Lastly, does it really hurt after to recover as much as you would think it would?

      For those that need it, jaw surgery is life changing with amazing results possible. These include but not limited to; better aesthetics of the smile and face, improved function and potential airway benefits as well (improvement in snoring and sleep aponea). Consult with an experienced team of orthodontist and oral maxillo facial surgeon for the best results. At thelookortho, we take a special interest in jaw surgery with one of our orthodontists a jaw surgery patient themselves.

      @@briruiz6473 I found that the pain afterwards was actually really manageable with good pain medicine. Afterwards, you look like you’re in more pain than you actually are (since your face swells so much). I had my surgery done when I was 17, in High School, and got it done in June before going into my senior year. When classes started back up in August I was fine going back to normal classes. I’d say the recovery time varies and depends on how long you’re wired shut for. Most people are only wired shut for a few weeks and I believe it’s rare to be wired shut for 2 months (like I was). Recovery all just depends on the jaw surgery procedure you need (double or singular), if you need bone graphing done, and how well you recovery from surgeries in general. You’d probably get a more accurate idea of how long/hard recovery would be for you by talking to a jaw surgery surgeon but I hope this helped a bit!

      @@azardvideos hey! it's been 6 weeks post op now and honestly, it's been amazing. My swolleness has gone down and I actually look better! I've seen people having to deal with an identity crisis because they liked the way they looked before hand and having to deal with post surgery depression because of it. I on the other hand do not have a an issue with it because i came in the surgery with the mindset of "at least i'll look better than now". Also during the first 2 weeks, the only pain i had was having to deal with the headaches that came with the surgery as well as headaches taking medicine. I felt so sick and such; I was also sick 3 days before the surgery and was sick for 3 weeks during the recovery. i coughed so much but just a heads up; no, coughing does not hurt, you're able to cough, just brace urself when u cough. (better to cough while tilting your head back slightly, not all the way because your motion will be restricted and tilting your head back even more will hurt)
      I also started to eat really soft foods at late 3 weeks but my surgeon suggested at 6-7 weeks - i cannot chew but can use the roof of my mouth - also if you're trying to lose weight, try not to in take that much carbs and be conscious about what you intake. I have blended pizza, meat pies, doughnuts (dont recommend), carrot cake, chocolate cake, - blended meat pies and pizza tastes so good actually- just add 1 slice of pizza and water and fish sauce. Also, biting feels like a dream, I now look cute when I smile and laugh oh my god.
      As for daily intake of food, I had 2 protein shakes a day because that was all i felt like consuming for the first 3 weeks. (don't really recommend) YOU WILL LOSE APPETITE. Once you start craving food, you will START LOSING APPETITE. This is why I started drinking only protein shakes. I even made a list on food i craved. The best option to relieve the cravings was watching mukbangs on youtube. If you are thinking of applying makeup, even at 6 weeks, you face will kinda hurt bouncing on a makeup cushion, but a beauty blender sponge would be your best friend - i started applying makeup at 3 weeks, hurt like a heck.

      I just had a double jaw surgery last week (moving my upper jaw forward and lower jaw backward). My doctor/surgeon says that the jaw bones will generally fully heal in about 6 months. After that they are fully functional and as healthy as any other part of your body, like there has been no surgery. So, no, it won't give you any problem when you get older provided that it is done correctly.

    • @cosmichymn1404

      I myself am looking for an answer to this question. If we fracture a bone, it can be put back together and after it heals we experience no problem. However, as one proceeds towards old age, that very bone is the first to ache.
      The thing is these surgeries are so new and no one can answer this from experience.

    Any Jaw surgery or orthodontic procedure that involves removing teeth or bringing the jaw backwards should be banned. We have an epidemic of breathing problems caused by smaller mouths because orthodontists only care about straight teeth and don't take into account what damage they could be causing. I had 8 teeth removed and my lower jaw brought forward as a teenager, when really I should've had everything brought forward so that there was space for all my teeth. Now I have severe sleep apnea and need surgery again to try to fix it.

    I have a question, please answer. I'm 17 and my dentist said I'd need jaw surgery to get my teeth and bite to be perfect, but there are so many reasons why I can't get it. Would a headgear work for aligning my jaw? My side profile is terrible and the dentist said the invisalign won't do much on aligning my jaw and won't get my bite perfect.

    • @dorasdoublejawsurgeryjourney
      @dorasdoublejawsurgeryjourney 2 роки тому

      Hey Ilaana! I know you commented this months ago, but I figured you could still use the advice. I’m also 17 and getting double jaw surgery next month. Obviously I’m no professional, but from my experience in preparing for surgery with Invisalign, I don’t believe headgear would be effective at this age, considering your bones are pretty much done growing by 17/18. It’s true that Invisalign can’t align your jaw, but neither can braces if you’re truly in need of surgery. Braces only move your teeth, not your bones - that’s what surgery does. I truly wish you the best though! I’ve spent the past 10 years of my life thinking it would be impossible for me to afford getting this surgery, so if that’s the case, I am seriously praying for you because I know what that’s like! Just want to let you know that the sooner you have the surgery (17/18 years old vs 25), the better, considering your body will heal better the younger you are. I definitely would suggest though talking with a second orthodontist, considering certain orthodontists can do more, and specialize in different things, than others. Also, there are payment plans that can help so so much, and with the right insurance, so much of the cost can be taken down. Wish you the best my friend!
