@@eb.3764 it is something wrong with your bone structure if your teeth don't align as they're supposed to, improper mouth posture, underdeveloped jaw, a lot of issues that can't be considered 'normal' or just 'not aesthetic'.

I didn’t realize until recently that OMFS do this kind of work..thought it was for plastic surgeons, I’m going to be having jaw and chin implant surgery…by someone who went to dentistry school but she’s very talented. My mother had her nose done by a plastic surgeon. Maybe there is some overlap.

@@mervinprone In Poland where I am from there's a bit of overlap where both dentistry graduates and medicine graduates can become OMFS and I've seen the medical ones that do plastic and OMFS surgeries while the dental ones do also implants for example

I had an underdeveloped upper jaw and unfortunately the dental hospital gave me extensive braces and took six teeth out when I was about nine or ten,bringing the lower jaw back in line to the smaller upper.Although it is only cosmetic,I wish they had done jaw surgery,especially seeing the fantastic results for this young man.

I had the same surgery in Montreal, Canada. Very well done, very pleased with the results. Few years later, I ask for a rhinoplasty to have a more gracious profile. I should ask for a prosthesis for my chin to elongate it. It is still not enough long for better results.
So now, I think they should always work to elongate (when necessary) the chin with the maxillofacial surgery. This way these two parts are done and after that the patient can ask if desire, for a rhinoplasty.

I'm scared of the surgery and it must be expensive, but this guy has been saved many painful years. I bet the recovery was brutal, but a few painful months don't compare to a lifetime painfree. People don't realize that, yes he does look better now, but the kind of jaw he had would most likely lead to peinful dental situation, and chewing might become a nightmare later on. My teeth are often very painful and my jaw pops in weird painful ways, I get pain in my ears, pain in my cheeks up to my eye, it's awful and it will only get worse and worse as time goes on. It's cool that you look better after surgery but the real upside is being free of these pains
Most times these surgeries there's a high chance people are left with lifelong nerve damage simply not worth the risk.

@@Amalastudio Depending on the needs of the patient, it can be done with orthognathic surgery with downgraft of the maxilla, counterclockwise rotation of maxilla and /or mandible and/or genioplasty.
Visually, his eyes look larger, especially in the front view. Is this because of his jaw surgery?
The skin stretches to fit the new position of the (maxilla) bone, so it's possible that his eyes look bigger due to stretching of the undereye skin.

Yo no sabía que tenía overbite y a los 40 años mi dentista me lo noto y me mando con un doctor ortognatico(orthognathic) para que me operara la mandíbula, de eso ya hace 15 años del diagnóstico y no me he podido operar porque acá en Estados Unidos la operación es carísima y las aseguranzas solo cubren una parte, tengo ya 54 años y cada año que pasa veo más difícil que me pueda operar por el costo de la operación, mi overbite no es tan marcado como este joven pero si no me opero cuando tenga mas edad se va a notar más y voy a tener complicaciones al tragar(eso me dijo el doctor) y también una operación de este tipo para una persona mayor sería muy riesgosa

I don’t know where you are located, but insurance should cover the bulk when there is functional impairment, which he most certainly would have had. My medical and dental both covered it, and I only paid $500 out of pocket. I realize this is not common. I got very lucky having both cover almost all of the surgery and hospital stay.
