Coil-Over Shocks, A Visual Comparison: Gabriel Vs. Monroe

  • Based on my observation I think the Gabriel's may be a smarter buy. it seems to me Monroe understands the "visual" - I didn't mention it in the video but you can see the Gabriel springs are thicker than the Monroe springs. I also didn't compress the Monroe shock but I can easily compress that shock, more easily than I can the Gabriel.
I suspect the Gabriel may lift my rear end, if that happens I plan to lower the leaf springs by one hole

Honestly man great video I just bought some Gabriel’s online myself but I seen the Monroe’s as well I think they’re honestly both great at the price point. I’m sure there’s a lot nicer ones out there but for every day people these are great and more than enough. Good job man great comparison

Also man a good thing to keep in mind, mixing metals leads to corrosion I live up north lots of snow here not saying you’ll see a problem with the pot metal just something to think about. Could be a factor as to why they went with the plastic

Great video, I use carquest struts which there shocks is Gabriels because the shock housing is different then other brands, carquest struts are pretty stiff and good quality

What shocks you decide to use?
And try mounting those upside down if possible perhaps?

I’ve been using the monroe shocks fr a few months now, they’ve settled,
I liked when they were stiff and new,
The van wants to roll more, and that’s the whole reason i got the Monroe shocks, for stability,
My overview is i like them, they’re better than the original, i do find myself wanting more out of the rear shocks,

Someone in a Group told me that AC Delco shocks are not the quality they used to be. this is true ? I would like to know from your experience which shock absorber I can buy for Astro 2005. In regular use, it does not lift.

I was told that Monroe makes Gabriel shocks, and Gabriel is there higher end stuff. I have always use Gabriel maybe just because my name is Gabriel but who wouldn’t try out a brand that’s the same as their name I’ve always been pleased with the build quality. I’m sure there are shocks out there that are way better, but for my purposes, I have always been satisfied with the Gabriel brand.

Monroe does NOT make Gabriel shocks. Teneco makes Monroe shocks. Gabriel makes Gabriel shocks. Gabriel are far superior to Monroe in every way. 120 years of experience from the original inventor of the shock absorber, Gabriel, is the right choice.

Is there any ratio for smooth ride between coil diameter and coil height?

I'm not an engineer.... There's SO much to consider including vehicle weight, how much weight you're carrying, even the way the things mount.... It's trial-and-error

for me, yes... They act like a sway bar in a way, I also carry tools and other heavy loads at times which was my main reason for needing coil-overs - I recently had a ton of Ipe on the roof deck and you could barely tell other than the tire bulge
