Hey Ben, looks like those shocks are gonna work for you, smart to get your equipment in tip-top shape ready for what should be a busy fall for all you firewood producers. Out here on the left-coast gas went up 30 cents yesterday. Insane. OPEC scaling back output- two years ago energy independent, big changes needed and are coming! Take care,
I haven’t used the truck a lot but the shocks seem to help. Gas is pretty crazy I try my best to just ignore the prices. Hard to do but I’ve got to have it. The non ethanol stuff is what gets me heck it hurts to cut the grass lol. Take care, Ben.
Just a note- The shock mounts aren't made to carry much of a load. If you decide you need a bit more, the firestone airbag kits work well, they go between the axle and frame. I ran the airlines on mine out and replaced my liscense plate bolts with the bulkhead schrader valves to air up/down the bags.
Nicholas I think these shocks should do what I need for now. If I have to do much more I may just have to invest in a larger truck someday. Thanks for stopping by take care, Ben.
The spring shocks are great to add a bit of capacity for trucks that have something in the box all the time. Like a canopy or tools box or fuel tank and such. For your needs here of varied loads, and heavier stuff, the best option is airbags. You adjust the air pressure to the load. When running empty, 5 psi air. When fully loaded 40-50 psi. A or kit for your truck without the expensive compressor would be about 300$. Plumb them to a scheaeder valve by the license plate. Cheaper than those shocks, and a lot more load capacity. Carry a cordless portable compressor (tire inflator) and tape measure to air up the bags as needed. This is the route I went and am extremely happy.
Damn, i need something with more spring tension, didnt want to use air bags or add a leaf. I put a heavy flat bed on and those will help but just not enough
Good day Sir, it is always nice to see you doing firewood !!! That is a nice improvement for sure Sir : ) and very well close view !!! Please take care Sir Cheers !!!
I always bought my 4x4 Ford trucks with a heavy duty suspension. I Ave hauled a 8’ bed full of oak rounds, stacked as high or higher than the top of the cab. I have also pulled a 16’ trailer with a 25,00$ tractor sitting a dual axel trailer. It did have electric breaks but that was all. My nose was up a bit but I could still see the road.
Ever since I went back to a half-ton for fuel economy, this has been on my mind. I was thinking about airbags, but I may try some Sumo-springs I bought for another truck first. The factory shocks on this GMC are too soft. I have a set of equalizers, but they won’t mount up to my dump trailer - just my 24’ dovetail. Did you consider airbags before buying the Monroe shocks?
Mark I never really considered air bags to be truthful. I’m not very mechanical good at working on things. I had all types of suggestions I was leaning towards upgrading the springs but didn’t won’t to put the effort into it or pay someone to do it. A couple people suggested the Monroe shocks so I’ll see how they do going down the road and if the 1.5” gain helps. Take care, Ben.
Hi Ben, Nice little upgrade, how does it drive empty? I run air bags in the back of my work truck. Don’t even notice 10000 pounds on the old diesel Ram!
Also realize that your firewood on the trailer is wetter now and thus a bit heavier, due to the rain. So the new shocks may give you even more than 1.5 inches more height.
@@OGAOutdoors maybe we will have a good crop, next year. I am going to put a fertilizer ring around them this fall and mulch them real well with 5-10-15 and some Milo. We have had a lot of rain the past few weeks. I let the grass grow for a couple of weeks and had a mess to cut the other day.
Jackie I’m thinking it will be better with a loaded trailer because it will have weight in the back. I don’t have much issue towing the trailer but I always take my time. My issue is mainly when I have the truck loaded heavy. Take care, Ben.

Left coast. 😂

I may have to look into that sometime. I may just try to get by till I upgrade trucks sometime.

Thanks Dave I think they will help just enough to keep me rolling safely. Take care, Ben.
Ben, after all that work you must come home hungry as a bear! You sure are an "outdoorsman" lol. Thanks for sharing.
Maybe that’s it I need to work less but I’d still probably eat a lot. Teresa says I’m a bottomless pit. Thanks for watching.

Sounds like a good truck. I bought this one cheap with no idea I would be hauling firewood. Take care, Ben.
Good comparison I'll likely be using a set on my truck for lawn care this summer I'm tired of my 3/4 ton sagging with a trailer full of equipment
I’m pleased with the improvements.
Great job Ben! They should definitely help👍👍
Jeremiah so far I’m really impressed. Take care, Ben.
My last truck I had air stocks in it.. it made it handle much better. These should handle much better too..
I was just outside looking at it looks like it has a little attitude now. A little lift in the back.
Another good vid as usual!
Thanks I pleased with the results. Take care, Ben.

I'm looking at sumo springs. The yellow ones for just a little more support
Hi Ben, Nice little upgrade, how does it drive empty? I run air bags in the back of my work truck. Don’t even notice 10000 pounds on the old diesel Ram!
It drives good maybe better than it did. Hopefully it will be a good little upgrade. Yeah that Ram of yours is one nice truck. Take care, Ben.
4 inches of rain, we are desperate for some of that. Been very dry here 9.5 inches since Christmas. And this is the wetter side of the UK.
Tim that is pretty dry. It has been really dry here as well I was really glad to get the 4”. Hopefully you will get some soon take care, Ben.

I didn’t think about that. I haven’t loaded the truck yet with a load for delivery that will be the real test. Take care, Ben.
We did not get any rain from May to late in July. My peaches did not grow much bigger than grapes and I lost an apple tree.
Same here my apple tree is still struggling.

I wonder what the distance will be once the entire trailer is loaded with wood? Will it be enough at that point? I guess time will tell...

Need to get you a 3/4 ton
It might be nice to have one if I can find one in my price range. Probably not going to happen my price range is really low lol. Take care, Ben.
Some air bags would really help you out while you are loaded 🤷🏽♂️
I’m sure they would but maybe the shocks will get me by. Thanks for stopping by Cash take care, Ben.
