Flying to Hawaii is exciting enough on its own, but doing in A330-900neo Delta One business class is on a completely different level. Long story short, it was easily one of the best days I had experienced in a good long while.
As you will see in this video, the Delta One suites on the A330-900 are phenomenal. Yes, they are a bit awkward in some situations, but for the most part, it’s a highly competitive business class seat that I recommend highly for your next long haul adventure.
This is footage from Delta flight number 450, A330-900 service from Seattle to Honolulu in March of 2022. I had seat 5J for this 6 hour flight out to the islands, and the aircraft registration was N404DX.

A330neo is quiet! I took them when it first launch with Delta on the Asian routes. I fell asleep during taxiing and wasn't woken during takeoff.

As a larger person, who has recently done some good shrinking...still working on that. I appreciate the mention that "this may not be a good fit for larger people". Sorry you had to go to Hawaii to show us this stuff...must have been a hard few days, unless you decided to stay there...LOL Hawaii makes San Diego look cheap. Cost wise. Haha. Well some areas of it. Haha, yeah, it’s brutal doing these reviews sometimes. 😩😄 Anyway, glad you got some useful information out of it. Now I’m thinking I’m going to have to review Hawaiian Airlines first class (for the 4th time) just to see how it compares (again). 😅
@@sanspotter Ehhh, Not So great, to be honest, at least from the SAN-HNL flights we took in Mid-May…the experience was quite underwhelming (dirty plane, kinda surly staff, not so great food)..Did NOT live up to the hype (especially for a $1700 First Class ticket RT)
I did the same route on the A339 back in February. As someone who is “well fed”, I found the Delta One product very comfortable and not too narrow for me.

Airbus a330neo is one of the best and most comfortable aircraft.
This was really helpful! My husband, myself, his mom and my mom are heading to Hawaii in 30 days (cue the countdown even though we are heading to San Diego in 2 days, lol). We’re flying out with Delta One Seats with our moms to Honolulu from Florida (Delta one from Atlanta to Honolulu) July 5th and we picked these seats because their health/age. I’m a taller, longer-legged guy so I can anticipate the seating better now. It also helps to know what to expect for our moms and know that the research for the flight tickets/seats was well worth the extra time and flexibility! It was perfect seeing this overview and we’re definitely looking forward to the flight even more now! I don’t know how I hadn’t had luck on finding videos like this one so I had considered making my own video just for others to see to help them out if they were on the fence. It absolutely helps! Delta One Suites are comfortable, if a bit narrow feeling.

😄 It’s been a couple years since my last visit though, so he’s definitely got me beat.
I flew Delta out of S gates from Seattle to Heathrow. I was so excited for the trip, I arrived at the S gates 3 hours early, walked the circle of death twice, then went back to the main terminal and sat in the rocking chairs at the glass wall. Yeah, you pretty much nailed the description. I like the A330 classic but haven't flown Neo yet.
I actually work for Delta. They IFE system is actually different from most aircraft. this system is only on the A330 Neo, B767-400, and A220 aircraft (also future -A321 Neo aircraft)

How is it different?
It’s not a Sanspotter review without chicken and rice review. The chicken looked good and not dry. It’s probably as good as a reference meal than can be achieved across airlines. The clean and empty plates were clearly a testament to how good it was, unless it’s needed to remove the taste of the airport sushi?
Haha, yeah, I basically licked those plates clean because it was good…not because of the airport sushi. 😄

Our flight back from Hawaii is supposed to be Delta One (next week) from HNL to SEA. On our boradring pass it says A330-300 but flight tracker and (I guess) this video are saying it will be a 900. I really hope the info on the pass is wrong. I fly this plane with this livery out of Hawaii on MSFS all the time so it would be a special treat!
I just looked at flightaware, and it seems as if this flight (as of March 27th) has been switched to an A330-300. I didn’t know they changed it! Anyway, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you that you’ll get a -900 instead. 🤞🏻

I love the A330. They typically come with 2 seats on the right and left side in economy, making it perfect for my wife and I. Better than the 3 in the 777. Also, airport sushi? Not a gamble I often take. Charlotte did have some good stuff though.
Yes the 330-9 is that much better than the older versions. Beautiful business-class seat!

I was wondering when you'd be doing a review on this flight. I got lucky when I booked my flights from HNL to SEA a couple times last year. The flight was originally assigned to a 757, then they changed it to the A330-900neo. Needless to say, I was able to experience the flight at a much cheaper price. Unfortunately, they seemed to have moved this plane on to other flights. I've tried to book it for May 2022, and they changed it to the older version of the A330. I do agree that on 180. The seats seems a bit cramp, but still comfortable. Great one to take on red eye and catch some Z's without your neighbor bumping your arm. It was definitely a great experience. I haven’t been to Hawaii in several years since I found Cabo to be my favorite travel destination from here in Cali. However, the last time I flew back from Hawaii with my best friend we were talking about box 3 and 4 because there was so much turbulence. I totally feel ya Scott! Great video!❤️👍✈️
Thanks! I’ve never been to Cabo, but I keep hearing nice things about it. I’m thinking that’ll be my next Mexican destination. 🤔 But yeah, the turbulence to and from Hawaii can be gnarly at times. The water is probably somewhat warm(ish) though, so ending up in a life raft is probably survivable (ish). 😄

Agreed! The seat could be a LOT better! Did the same aircraft & route in early March. Its hard to get the seat into a cradle zero G position. Lie flat is meh ok too narrow unless you sleep on your side, then again on your side its too narrow from the hips to toes to get comfy. Its ok for 6 hour flight, but not certain its good for anything more. The super diamond seat is superior to Delta One! But… the VALUE of Delta One fares have made premium seats with cash very attractive for the savvy shopper. Like $597 one way ex-west coast to Oahu for example.

I'm quite a fan of Delta One; I think it's one of the best quality trans Atlantic products. I'm also glad that you didn't get consumed by a sea monster, although I'm sure it would boost your viewing figures 😂
I first saw Magnum P.I with Tom Selleck when I was in Canada. It was not available in Australia at that time. Now we are in series 4 with Jay Hernandez as Magnum and Higgins is Juliette?. Still Love the Ferrari. Enjoy Hawaii. Only passed through on CP Air dc10 to Toronto. Cheers.

I've always thought that airlines put less effort into their U.S. mainland to Hawaii flights than they do their international flights, even in premium cabins (I'm looking at you United), as most of the crowd is tourists who'd prefer cheaper fares over elevated service. But Delta proved that (mostly) wrong this time - a seat on par with international business class on most airlines along with complete service. (What's missing is bed linens and having the meal served in multiple courses - but those are minor quibbles here, especially as it's a daytime flight.)
Even on international long haul DL went to single tray service some time ago..pre covid. It's not something I particularly care for and seems cheapend. Wouldn't bother me an Hawaii flight since it's a domestic leisure route as you point out. Part of the experience on long haul business or first is a multi course meal.
I love Delta One non-stop from Sea-CDG Paris.
Now I want to find out that place called Cape Disappointment now after seeing it on the flight map you played with

Completely agree on the bathroom, I was expecting something… we’ll just not the same i suppose. From seeing this video, the other configuration on this plane (with seat further from the cabin door) DEF seems more spacious… you give up the cubby though if I recall correctly. Just finally got to try to A330-900neo on the second leg from GRU-BOS.. GRU-ATL was the angled delta one experience on the a330-300 aircraft (better than the oldest variety) but I fly this route regular and really wish they would bring the cabins to São Paulo flights - 9-10hrs and São Paulo is the economic capital of South America.. anyways I digress (or regress?)- the second leg from ATL - BOS ended up being aboard the a330-900 neo (I was surprised since it’s only a 2.5hr or so flight.. my guess is they were bringing a plane up from their major hub to send international. I had the opposite seating config (away from cabin door) and it was possibly more comfortable than my home office. Also i didn’t see you touch on it in this video, but the dedicated overhead bin for your cabin is nice also… most modern delta one experiences have something similar though.

Going on my first Delta flight this month! Ord-DTW-HNL excited to try them.
We did Delta first class from Atlanta to Aruba three weeks ago on a 737-900ER. They did nothing for the passengers & the food was still 3 cold box lunch options. I was very disappointed with the level of service but at least the flights were on time there & back!
Caribbean is pretty much treated as a domestic flight.. smaller aircraft, no access to lounge on first class etc.. not the “delta one” experience is most cases.. DeltaOne is typically reserved for longer haul flights (normally)
@@bryannicholson7111 since then I’ve flown 1st class to NYC. Hot meals are back which was great! Delta always offers me great personal service for things within their control.

Flying this same route in 2J this Saturday :) will be the second time (last time was HNL-SEA in 7J). Just curious though, why so nervous flying? I used to be the same but after flying so much I just don't really think about it now.

Yeah, I hear so many good things about that place. I’ll get there eventually! And yes, the NEO was insanely quiet compared to the first gen aircraft. Sounded good though. 👍🏻

I wonder if perhaps the paired seats in the middle might feel slightly less claustrophobic? nice footage as always, i've been hunting for a fun trip to ride the A330 D1 ticket to/from, this looks like a good candidate. I'm crossing my fingers that they'll throw in some a330s into the nonstop JFK-HNL service once it starts this December
Yeah, the middle seats do seem a bit less claustrophobic. There lack of a view (no window!) might be a bummer, but it would certainly be a fine choice. My recommendation: Delta One JFK-HNL on the way there, and on the way back: Hawaiian Airlines A330 first class to LAX, connecting to a Jetblue Mint suite back to JFK. Best trip ever, basically. 😄
The suite lighting on the 350 is soothing. Seems they skipped the blue lighting on the 330-9

Hey Mate.. just a quick question.. I will be flying Business class EWR to Zurich soon.. United Polaris Boeing 767-300...The only seats available are 1L and 15A, 15L, 17A, 17L.. since i do not have any options left, what would you recommended the seat I pick? would 1L be better for privacy with window or too close to bathroom.?? or the 15 or 17 A would be better? Aloha, I wonder if we did Hawaii roughly same time, I popped in to March. I did part of the return leg on Qatar in their Q-Suite (which is even nicer than Delta One) on one of the longest flights in the world, circa 16hours LAX-DOH ! It was amazing. I would not have survived it in economy 😁😁

As your resident foreigner: How is Hawaii? And more importantly how is the competition between airlines in getting to Hawaii?
Hawaii is amazing! Oahu is a bit overcrowded and touristy, but the other islands are something that everybody needs to see at least once in their life. Competition is extremely fierce as well - which is good for us, since we have a lot better options than we did just 10 years ago. I’m still surprised that they were using the A339 on this flight to Honolulu - it’s a very premium heavy aircraft, which makes it a really nice way to get to the islands and back.
@@sanspotter Much of Asia is still largely shut down, especially mainland China so they are using the aircraft on routes to Hawaii and responding to where the demand is.
Hawaii is good. As a local born and raised. I’ve noticed we’ve gotten way busier since we’ve open. I work in hotel industry and it’s getting busy here

How much was your ticket I think 6A is the best seat some people say 1A has extra leg room? My route is reverse it was red eye one way I booked I bought for $675 I thought that was a steal. Im flying then sea-ord was a320 downgraded to a220-300 first class also. Then I fly quick one hour flight from ord to cle on united premium Econ didn’t want to pay $300 for first class super rip off. Now my leg from CLE to HNL I got AA Business CLE-dfw 737-800 nothing exciting then DFW-HNL 787-8 Business did not get a rear facing find that to be odd. I originally bought my ticket year in advance 50k AA miles for $2800 ticket pretty good in my books was 787-9 was really bummed when AA downgraded planes .

I think I would still chose Jet Blue Mint whenever possible.
It’s a tough choice! The food is far better on JetBlue, but the Delta One suite felt a little more private. But not by much.

Why can't airlines just buy aircrafts that meet their so called cost effective budgets and their passengers won't have to pay for expensive air fares. Why follow what other airlines have in their fleet....
These suites aren’t that great FYI. If you’re traveling with a significant other the first class cabins in 757s are better IMO.
You only need layflats if you’re flying 10+ hours. SEA to HNL is about 6 hours
