Imagine being out for a ramble, you take a quick shortcut through a field and there you have it, a man with a full recording setup having a full on luxurious shave in the middle of a field. That would be one to remember.
The Chap's Guide In my case there would be surprise, but in a “fair play, that’s pretty epic” kind of way. Thanks for the review by the way, appreciate your thoughts. Have you ever tried menthol stuff like fuar ach snog or proraso green on a bracing windy day? I reckon that would be fierce!
I've used the fuar ach snog cream, I'm a really big fan of Executive Shaving gear, loved it. Never tried Prorasso Green as yet. But your right, it could be perfect for my outdoor shaves in the winter months!

The Chap's Guide Executive Shaving are great. Brian M knows his stuff. Takes no lip from online trolls either. There’s a great video idea. In the snow, full set of fuar ach snog or proraso green, myrsol emulsion at the end. Def gonna subscribe. All the best and thanks again for the informative video.
I tried this for the first time this morning and I have to say, it was as difficult for me to describe the scent as it was for you. Overall I think it appeals to me because it reminds me of everything I love about my study: wood, leather, cigars, books, and a hint of gun oil.
I like your thinking on that familiar smell, but not anything I can put a finger on. I've really grown to enjoy that 'comfort' fragrance - it matches so well with Aramis cologne if you ever use that fragrance - a good marriage. Best regards and I hope you continue to enjoy the cream. Ash
Thanks for the alert to ToBS's new cream.... I have recently picked up some samples of Aramis tobacco reserve and Tom Ford's Tobacco Oud.... this might go well with them. Both worth a try BTW... Aramis is a bit of a bargain.. if you like it.
By something of an amazing coincidence I picked up ma bottle of Aramis last week - sub £20 on Amazon, something of a bargain indeed. I'm still on my journey to decide if I like it, but early indications are that its right up my tree. Maybe a little too overwhelming for summer in my opinion, but a definite winter fragrance - a review will be along soon. Thanks for the tip.
Ok, Mr. Jones, you are an official influencer. I live in Japan. Yesterday I took delivery of 2 tubs of shave cream from Taylor of Old Bond Street. The Tobacco Leaf you show in this video and also Sandalwood. I’ve been using a brush and the hockey puck soaps for the past few years. The lather you worked up in the Oud video prompted my decision. It’s currently 7:00am here in the Land of the Rising Sun and I am headed off for my first shave using TOOBS Tobacco Leaf. I hope I can work up that whipped cream textured lather.
@@TheChapsGuide I put about a fingertip’s worth in the bowl and lathered it up. Good lord, I could have shaved 5 times with that amount. The scent is amazing and stays with you. It’s just past noon now and I can still get the occasional whiff of it. Good stuff. Thanks for the recommendation.
Ok, Mr. Jones, I’ve been shaving each day this week working on the balance on the amount of cream to use. It truly doesn’t take much. I’m very fortunate in that I don’t usually have to shave more than twice a week. I’m 55 years old but my beard doesn’t grow in very quickly and when it does it’s not that burly. It would take me 6 weeks to work up enough hair on my face to say “Hey, I’ve got a beard”. If you recall I bought a tub of the Tobacco Leaf and one of the Sandalwood. It’ll be very interesting to see how long this lasts. Thanks again for the recommendation.
I really enjoy your shaving videos, thumbs up. As an old wet shaver I really love DE razors, SE, razors and straight razors. The Feather Popular is (IMO) a bit too mild but as it is very cheap here in Sweden it's perfect for travel. I also enjoy TOBS products and I love tobacco scented soaps, cremes, After Shaves and EDT's, so I would really like to recommend you to try Razorock Puros soap and After Shave. In my opinion its a really good soap and the scent of the soap and the AS is one of the most masculine tobacco and musk fragrances. Looking forward to your next video
Thanks for the tip, I'm just brewing up to do another outdoor shave in the next few days, just waiting for the weather to make it possible. I like the sound of the Razorock Puros, I'm presently going through a phase of Aramis Tobacco Reserve, so I'm just in the mood for tobacco scents. Best regards. Ash
@@TheChapsGuide Thank you for your reply! I think you will like this one. Razorock describe the scent like this: "The basic notes of this perfume are tobacco, musk, leather, vanilla, tonka bean and a little bit of hay in the background." It is very different from my favorite tobacco scent, Burberry London, but I just love this sweet cigarr leaf, musk and leather scent in Puros. I would love to hear your opinion on the soap and AS when you tried it. Best regards from Sweden :)
I'm a Trumpers fan myself, but also have Taylor's grapefruit which smells wonderful. Very interested in this one also. May have to treat myself to a tub. This and Royal Forrest completely passed me by
Trumpers have better scents IMO but they are definitely less concentrated in their shaving soaps than TOBS. TOBS has a nice reasonably strong but not overpowering smell. Trumpers you can easily smell still but again it's not as strong which is a shame. Although if we are talking strictly performance, it's trumpers all day but you do also see that in the price. TOBS is half the price of trumpers, around $27 aud (between 26 and 28) for 150 grams and trumpers is around $45-$50 AUD for 200 grams, again depending on the scent so I guess you also get +50 grams with trumpers, but take into account you need far less because trumpers is also far more concentrated then TOBS I have found and it will always produce a thicker, far slicker lather that better protects your skin and produces a better shaving experience so long as you know what you are doing. Going back to cost it's around 18c (AUD) per gram for TOBS and around 24c (AUD) per gram for trumpers, so trumpers is around 1/3 more expensive, but again take into the extra quality and I definitely think they even out, I 100% see a trumpers tub lasting up to a year or even longer (I've yet to finish a single tub so I am not sure) so long as you don't overuse it. Just around a slightly less than almond size amount is well and truly enough for 3 passes, if you are into that.
@Ripa-Moramee I agree completely, good sir. I like to have a rotation myself. It is nice to step out of the shower and be able to lather what you feel like the on the day. I also highly recommend Castle Forbes, although I have only tried the lavender variety. I have also had the Executive Shave Co range recommended to me. Trumper's Skin food is unequalled as a post shave. Do grab some if you have not already
@@soundwave1021 Castles forbes has no equal in terms of performance, it is splitting hairs but my god is it an amazing product. The reason why they are not always my go to is because their scents are all boring and not very interesting. Are they good? Yes, their lime in particular is nice and refreshing but nothing special. Also as for lavender, I never purchased that one because I cannot stand almost any floral notes on me. I do like the smell of lavender but do I want to wear it? Absolutely not, but that's completely subjective. DR Harris is also another good cream, very similar to trumpers in performance too. Their windsor scent is absolutely amazing. It's fresh, spicy and I also get a leather scent. Alexander simpson is another shaving cream, their bay rum is a nice scent and they perform well too. Somewhere in between TOBS and trumpers. I enjoy soaps too, I have noble otter Noir et Vanille, Phoenix and Beau Spitfire and barrister and mann spice. All amazing soaps with great performance, my favorite scent and the one that has the best performance in my opinion is the spitfire.
Hi from Japan from a non-Japanese. I have to admit this feather is not the best razor for its price. But their stainless one, AS-D2 is one of the best. But being in England you can lavish yourself with Edwin Jagger & support Sheffield’s craftsmanship.
Cheers Jim, I really love citrus fragrances, so I'll look up that brand. Christ knows I really don't need any more shaving cream - but it has become something of an addiction.
My wife has fallen in love with sandalwood scent so I've gotten all sandalwood scented products. Pre-shave oil, shaving soap and after-shave. Being a cigar smoker, I smell of tobacco anyways
Yes, I have used both and am currently using Trumper Eucris stick deodorant (I'm wearing it now). I really like the quality and fragrance of these products and favour Trumper's products in this area. They are not cheap, but as you know, quality does not come cheaply. I buy one occasionally as a little treat to myself sand they actually last a few months, so it is not really that extravagant.
@@TheChapsGuide thanks for responding ash I wish I saw it earlier. i’m thinking about buying one and also buying an hair and body shower gel. do you know if the deo are lasting for at least 24 hours? I know they probably don’t last 48h because the ones that do, contains harsh chemicals in them. tobs or trumper one seems to have a bit less chemicals in them.
Hey Ash, this be a bit sacrilegious on this channel but I wet shave about three times a week. In between I use an electric shaver which is actually quite good. I will soon be purchasing a new one (Old one is about 10 years old, Philips). Have you ever dabbled in the world of electric shavers? If so, any thoughts?
In my early years I used a Remington electric razor, but of recent times I hear that the Braun range is the one to beat. I fully agree with your thoughts though, wet shaving leaves a great end result, but it can be wearing on the skin. I try to have regular breaks from the razor blade to let the skin recover and your routine sounds like a perfect compromise. Let me know how you get on - I may follow your path. Ash
Allan Like you I also use an electric razor in between shaves. For me though it's mainly when I'm on earliest, my eyes dont like to focus till a good hour after I started my shift
The ToBS Tobacco Leaf was a recent purchase, excellent stuff, the bergamot and grapefruit scent was definitely there, but couldn't make out the tobacco leaf or coffee bean.
The tobacco is certainly the minority element in this fragrance, but it has its own charms. I was a little disappointed to be honest, I was hoping for a bit more of a tobacco boost, but its definitely growing on me.
I would love to hear your thoughts on Taylor of Old Bond's Street sandalwood scent www.tayloroldbondst.co.uk/collections/shaving-creams/products/sandalwood-shaving-cream-bowl-150g
i think the sandalwood shave cream and aftershave is excellent. i personally prefer their cedarwood option, but i have gone through many bottles of the sandalwood over the years. great stuff.
great stuff, this has reeally got me thinking
I love TOBS tobacco leaf, even better than their Sandalwood (which is already great).
There's just something magical about this scent.
Imagine being out for a ramble, you take a quick shortcut through a field and there you have it, a man with a full recording setup having a full on luxurious shave in the middle of a field. That would be one to remember.

Wow the packaging for that Feather razor is very 1970s. Gillette razors used to come in similar packaging from what I remember.
