    Aftershave has three purposes. First, it delivers an astringent, closing the pores. Second, it delivers a scent. Third, it is an antiseptic. The last, not usually recognized, is most important. It prevents skin infection which can be most unpleasant.

    Great review. I wanted to try their Albion shaving soap... but it was stopped at customs. TOBS is my favourite in shaving creams and DR Harris in triple milled shaving soaps. In every trip to London I buy one piece at St James ( Harris soap... not TOBS cream because of liquids/creams flying regulations over 100 GR/ml) Cheers

    I was gifted a tub of Spitfire a couple of Christmases ago and I've loved it ever since. The scent is amazing, although I will say this particular soap takes some patience to get what I consider to be a good lather.

    Hi Ash so pleased you enjoyed my soap recommendation their Albion is nice soap Bergamot, Lavender, Grapefruit. The Semogue 830 is a lovely brush. Boar brushes benefit from being soaked in hot tap water not boiling for a few minutes you will find it more comfortable on your face.I love my Semogue brushes and when broken in , when the hairs split, they are as good and comfortable as a synthetic and they exfoliate your skin and lift the whiskers ready for the shave. I have another soap recommendation Wickhams if you don't want tallow another artisan based in England.
    If you want a good inexpensive soap I would suggest Arko and Cella both come in a small red container ideal for travel.
    Keep up the good work and keep well and keep safe.

    Hi, Ash! Great content, I enjoy at full your channel. It is only today, two months later, that I watch this particular video. Please allow me to clarify regarding the DE blade. It is "Рапира", written in Cyrillic and means "rapier" - the thin, light sharp-pointed sword used for thrusting. Greetings and thank you!

    That brand reminds me of the beer beverage company of the same name and their somewhat infamous advertising. One line was "Spitfire- Its not for Kuntz or Fockers". Definitely puerile in its humour but it always made me laugh. In terms of hookups with like minded people, I run a Swing Dance sciety in Oxford and have just come back from the vintage Twinwood Festival (off to Goodwood Revival in a few weeks time). I would be happy to chat to you about how our pursuits dovetail with the interests of your viewers through Jazz, Swing and dancing. I also remaster original tracks from the 78 recordings to remove the noise. Not sure if you are aware but a fire destroyed most of the master recordings so for a lot of the Jazz Age, all we have left are the 78s. Its an interesting story and the process is a labour of love. All the best chap.

      It sounds like quite the adventure you have going. I have never been to Goodwood revival - is it anygood?

    • @Allottedaaron
      @Allottedaaron 11 місяців тому

      @@TheChapsGuide The Revival is unique and it is a wonderful weekend. Obviously it depends what you are interested in, and central to it is the motor racing. So if you have lovingly restored a vintage 1930s Bentley worth millions, once a year you can enter it into the Revival, hand it over to a tame racing driver, who will then hurl it around the track in ways that will terrify you but for which it was originally designed to do. Sometimes you might even get it back in one piece!
      The cars and racing are therefore central but around this is a huge site of vintage entertainment with live Jazz and swing bands playing with a huge dance floor. There is also a village of vintage traders that pop up selling all manner of things a chap never realised they needed but must have.
      People dress up for the Revival with many taking the opportunity to bring out their finest tweeds and styles from yesteryear.
      Consequently it turns back the clock to a time which probably never existed, but we love to imagine it did.
      It is British eccentricity at its most gloriously overdone and I love it. You might too. All the best chap.

    The Rockwell 6S is wonderful. I like the Merkur 43c, which is the 34c with a stainless cigar handle. But my favorite razor by far is the Blackland Vector. Spitfire is quite a dark/leathery scent to my nose, but I do enjoy it.

    • @TakeCareMan
      @TakeCareMan 11 місяців тому

      There is also a hint of oil/gasoline, or as you might say petrol in the Spitfire scent. To the one question, I would suggest an unscented splash /balm which you can actually spray a bit of EDT/EDP into.

    Another informative video Ash. I sport a substantial moustache and wonder if you have any information on waxing. I realise you're clean shaved and wax moustaches are somewhat old fashioned, Victorian even, but I would like to maintain my 'teacher the best way possible. Thank you.

    Do own/use a butterfly razor? What do you think of them?

    • @TheChapsGuide
      @TheChapsGuide 6 місяців тому

      I have 2 in my collection. I prefer the standard 3-piece razors these days, as I find the butterfly models tend to be mild and don't offer the blade reveal I seek now. But there are great for starting off in the DE world.

    Good video, a bit long.
    The question I have, in a world so fast paced, how can you spend that much time shaving?! I have a Mach3 razor, some canned foam, and I knock it out in 2 minutes. Followed by a spray of Toilette. And I’m out the door. What you’re showing or demonstrating is a heck of a lot of time.
