Didnt plan on catching it here, although it is probably my favorite spot I caught it at, in terms of the video... This was filmed on the Hamburg Turnpike in Butler NJ.
I remember hearing the sound of that train horn years ago (since i live near the NYS&W railroad) around dusk and it always scared the crap out of me because of how eerie it sounded compared to the horns on the other locomotives.

Thanks! Yes, this crossing once had quite a few trees keeping drivers from seeing the red flashing lights at night so the strobes were used to get their attention.
@dcarpine28 Thanks man! They give extra warning to the approaching drivers because the crossing kind of comes up on them without warning at night. So that catches their attention real quick.

This particular crossing was actually covered by a lot of trees at one point so the strobe lights were used to catch a driver's attention and get them to notice the crossing gates going off.
I was talking to an NYS&W Railroad Singnal worker and he tld me that, sometime in late 2013, this crossing might be getting gates. He told me that all crossings along this line will have gtes by 2016.
Now I know what the 4052 sounds like, I will listen for that slightly ''sharp'' tone echoing across the valley in J'ville. I really wanna catch this locomotive and add it to the susq45 video archives.

I was really lucky to go out for this SU-99 as I really didn't know much about the NYS&W at that point in time, and just happened to go out for the only SU-99 with the SD70M's leading haha.
Really? I'm assuming that you're saying the horns on those engines are similar to the one on this one, if so could you send me the link to a video of them? I'd like to hear it for myself because I've never come across anything that sounds remotely similar to this engines horn haha.
Nice video! All of those units were at one time or another on the Hanjin trains and on the CSX detours. What happened to 4052's horn? It sounds horrible!
@NJTWatcher15 I actually cought this one in Vernon. If it comes through early enough on like a Friday and I'm catching it I'll probably go and catch it in Vernon Especially if traffic is bad on 23.
I have yet to see a driver go through this crossing in the few years I have been chasing NYS&W trains, the lights themselves will catch the attention of any driver coming at it.

It's a strobe light. It's used at crossings that don't have proper lighting at night.

Panhandle Rails by CVision Ptoductions from 2:19 - 2:50 is a really good example. especially 2:40-2:48.

Union Pacific SD 60M's and Dash 840 C's sounded like this Especially the 60M's.
