- He was born and raised in the US, and a few years back he moved to Mexico with nothing but $1,500 in his pocket.
@JoseArteagaTravels chose Mérida, Yucatán to be his home and he has been living there ever since.
After living in Mexico for a little while, he met a local Merida woman who is now his wife.
It wasn´t easy to live on such a small budget. He had to be frugal and work hard, but this is how he did it.

Im mexican american born in Denver Co. I make about $5000 dollars a month. And we are barely getting by. Everything is very expensive rents are $2500 dollars a month utilities not included. Really considering in a future moving to Mexico.
We are on it, Gentrification is killing us, and not all gringos are as nice as this two, we deal with some entitled dudes that want to rule here.

My mom lives in La Salle, CO and yes it's crazy expensive. Couple people in the household have to work to be able to cover all costs. My mom works and all my brothers too and that's how they manage but as beautiful as Colorado is, it's too expensive.
The USA is determined to be a third world nation. Looking to emigrate out of this crazy country.

If you inmigrated to Mexico, please adapt, learn the language, etc. You choose to come, respect the country.
As a person with permanent residency, I can tell you that you can't just pick up and move to Mexico so easily any more. The financial requirements are now huge. The fact that he did this several years ago and that he married a local made it much easier for him to remain in Mexico. If I had not gone for my residency a while back, I wouldn't be able to afford it now. Not to discourage anyone, but it's the reality of the situation. If anyone is thinking about residency in Mexico and has enough financials for the current requirements, I highly suggest that you go for it and not wait because the requirements go up substantially every year. That’s tight! Mexico, it’s government, and it’s people are not as dumb as Americans when it comes to issues like immigration, residency, and owning properties. To them, it’s Mexico first and foremost. No snowflakes and weirdos amongst the Latinos…
Interesting, Mexicans can colonise America in the tens of millions illegally and be illegally granted citizenship by the banker backed politicians, but set one foot in Mexico and you better be ready to wait a long time, invest a lot of money and say "how high?" when they say "jump".

That is absolutely correct, you have to have a certain type of income and you have to prove it!
I enjoyed your comment here , what I did not understand was what this man stated that an American expat who is retired and wants to reside in Mexico simply has to prove that they are indeed retired and then they will not be held to a high financial scrutiny as someone who is still working. Do you have any information on this or what the difference is if someone is retired and trying to qualify at some Financial level to get residency ?
@@DavidVargas-qu8mf I have never heard about this. What they care about is your financial solvency. Your local consulate is the one that makes the decision. They also decide whether or not you get permanent or temporary. The requirements in my area were more lenient than a neighboring state. I am of retirement age but am still working so I wasn’t sure if that would be a problem. I have heard that they favor retirees with a good income which at this point is about $7,000 per month. I would apply as soon as possible regardless. It goes up substantially every year. A great video addressing this by Qroo Paul called “Can you afford to live in Mexico? “. Published 6 days ago. He keeps up on the latest info. Hope this helps.
Jose has always been a no nonsense realist about moving to and living and thriving in Mexico and I enjoy his content. Glad to see him get more exposure.
I’ve been subscribed to both you guys for a long time. Enjoy both of course. I am a lot older and have been living in MX for 20+ years on and off (occasionally been up in USA to make money) - I have home in Mazatlán and a couple of properties in Querétaro. Also have a small ranch in Chihuahua. When I see people afraid to move to Mexico, I laugh. I am just now up in Phoenix visiting family and I am scared of the USA. I can’t wait to go back to Mexico. It’s not for everyone, but after a 1/3 of my life here, I guess it’s for me. Good luck to both of you!

I lived several months in Matamoros paying $150 monthly for rent . It being right across the border from Texas meant no immigration requirements . Electric was $10 every 2 months and water included.The bus was 50 cents and super market food was economical. Spanish is required. I parked my car in the US Brownsville,TX where it was eventually broken into.
makes sense no car sitting for many months will be free from vandalism/ probably steal wheels at first then eventually pick it apart like a chopper!
How long ago did you live in Matamoros and for how long?
Nice. No immigration requirements? Does that mean that you can just go there and stay as long as you want to?

I've been living on Avenida Horacio in the heart of Polanco for the past year. Very nice apartment, everything included. By everything I mean a nice room with attached private bathroom, furnished, fully equipped kitchen, 2 wifi connections, cable TV, a fifth floor balcony with a nice view, washing machine, and weekly maid service.
For that, I pay $700 USD cash per month. No car needed, anything I could ever want or need is within walking distance 🙂

Love Jose Arteaga Travels. Been watching him for about 6 months. What do I love about him?? He is just a regular guy. Not pretentious in any way. His videos are real and not a bunch of fake lifestyles that other YTers show. He is a genuine man for sure. Plus he dispels all the fears of immigration and shows you 'many' ways to immigrate to Mexico. I love both of these channels.
José spells it out perfectly at 35:00 onward. In life, You just have to go for it. I have done this many times in life and when you want something bad enough, you have to chase the dream and you will find a way to make it work. Many people never take that leap of faith and it's too bad.

Jordan & Jose it was great to see you giving the insight on Mexico. Jose you were my wife and I's guidance to moving to Mexico, so we honed in on Merida in the Montes De Ames area. Unfortunately we had to return back to the U.S. because of my employer as I had to be U.S. based at that moment. Yet we're so ready to return to Mexico, although we're only a flight away in Myrtle Beach SC. Great interview Jordan and believe it or not Jordan, we've watched your videos since you started the Tangerine Travels channel. Thank you guys both.

I posted a comment a few minutes ago, questioning how Jose was even able to get a long enough Visa to make this work. After getting further into the video (appx. 29:00 ++) you both dug into those details - thank goodness 😅. Now, I’ve heard some updated info on the more relaxed ‘rules’ around the 6-mo. Tourist Visa, plus a few ways to work toward Permanent Residency. Thanks so much for re-inspiring my hope that Mexico MAY STILL be an option for me! I’d pretty much given up on it after all the pandemic restrictions began, and the minimum guaranteed income requirements increased dramatically. I thank you both for this ‘hopeful’ information❣️👍🌟

My brother lived in Germany in the late 1980s, he paid his rent when the valuation of the dollar vs Deutsche Mark was in his favor. I prepaid a good portion of my rent when the dollar to peso was 19/1, so I don't have to worry about paying more when the valuation is lower.

I never heard that retiree don't need financial to become resident . All consulates will tell you the needed financials for temporary or permanent residency, while retired. It is very high.
Jose Arteaga is the man. Up front no BS content. Shows reality, not just the content that most UA-cams share. Jose is one of the reasons I moved permanently to BCS a year ago.

I loved Merida when I visited there a few months ago and I definitely saw myself living there for 6mos. Out of the year. The people, food, very affordable, Uber easy , festivals etc..

Why did you need "help" to get onto a flight or get in the car?
Mexico is starting to crack down on this. A resident visa requires one to show income of approx. $2500 a month. There are too many gringos violating Mexico's policies.
Man, anyone autority is angry about your inmigration status, if you entry in México then you are forever at country. Yes, if you don't are resident then you can't open a bank acount, but who is worry about that? You have your American bank acount. Don't worry, be happy un México. Here allá it's cheap, and have quality.

We retired 6 weeks ago and we are traveling and will be for years. We are currently in my wife’s home country of Nicaragua, up in the mountains of Nicaragua…Matagalpa.
We live on under $1000/month here…about $900 but spend another $200-$300 on our senior dogs. Food, vet bills, flea n tick, heartworm , etc.
I am obviously a gringo and if I am alone, I pay a gringo price. For anything big, my wife goes in and gets the price before anyone sees me.
We don’t go out at night…just not our thing. We are up early, running all over town doing errands, home with our furbabies by supper time. We do eat out for breakfast and lunch often. We have our little local places that have wonderful food at LOW prices. Our breakfast spot costs $1.05 !
Don't go out at night says it all, what a boring life avoiding the delinquency

We usually have very busy days and by supper time we are ready to hang out with our dogs, enjoy a nice meal, and watch Netflix. That is just what we like to do….we did the same thing in the US. There is nightlife here, if that’s what you like to do. Moving and living in Nicaragua for a year or two…..you are the first person to say that sounds boring. We have 10 grandchildren. Dancing the night away or getting drunk is not appealing to us. To each his own.
We live for that in Louisville Kentucky.
Great video! I enjoy the various UA-camrs collaborating! My work around for my permanent residency was me doing the paperwork to get my daughter Mexican citizenship without the help of my Mexican ex-wife. This made the process much easier.

I've been to Mexico quite a few times and I love it! I'm too old now to make a move but I love hearing about other people who have done it. I live in the Pacific Northwest, Washington State, and I would give anything to eat a homegrown tomato. If I could grow them, where I live is overrun with deer and they eat everything except rosemary and lavender.
My husband and I moved to Merida from Lakewood, WA at the end of 2019. We haven't looked back. The only downside is my husband's family is in Yakima and we miss them and I think they are too scared to come visit at their age (turning 80 this year). Fortunately, they have lived there all their lives and have all of their family other than their son (my husband). Grown up kids calling Mexico home now as well!
I don’t think it’s ever too late to move. I moved to Europe at age 55 and I’ve never looked back. Best thing I’ve ever done.

@@goldvideo But you aren't that old. We are also in our 50's. I assumed correctly that this viewer was older. I think it really is a matter of health because it isn't the easiest thing in the world to do physically and I too would feel vulnerable if I didn't feel strong and healthy. That isn't even mentioning the aspect of language which is harder to learn as we get older.

Where I’m living there are professional Mexican doctors that gave up their practice in Mexico, started a new business and have a beautiful house and super safe area to live. I will ask them what they think.
Are you a Doctor? What is good for you may not be good for them..Maybe it is good for them to leave Mexico for the US because they make more money in the US. Unless you make the same amount of money, you cannot compare yourself to the., abd even less asking those Mexican Doctors for advices
