The mini split literally uses very little electricity it's not like the American HVAC systems the Mini Splits also condition and clean the air as well as act as dehumidifiers and constantly pull moisture out of the air they're literally the perfect Appliance to have to condition your air! Being in that subtropical climate you should run your AC or at least keep it on the dry setting all the time! Those are new units so they should be well insulated but if you're having issues with your mini split not keeping your entire space at a normalized temperature then maybe look for cracks under the doors or Energy Efficiency using a thermal camera to see if maybe the windows aren't as an efficient as they could be and that's where you're losing your cool air or where your heat exchange is happening but you turning the AC off is the worst thing you could do for your Energy Efficiency it causes everything in the room to warm up so when you do turn the AC on it has to work twice as hard to cool all the surfaces back down before it can keep it even at a constant temperature where is if you just leave the small appliance on all the time it uses less electricity and less energy because it doesn't have to cool things off it just keeps them cool all the time cool and dry I know I'm rambling and sound like a Salesman but I do know what I'm talking about
Hola Malikah! Nice digs, thanks for the tour of your new home! After remote beach camping and surfing throughout Baja for over 40 years with never any problems, I fell in love with the happy friendly people and family based culture, so I retired early and moved to Ensenada from the LA/Ventura area of CA last year. Although I do have a funny story about meeting some cartel members about 30 years ago at remote point break near Punta Abreojos while camping, I feel much safer here than in the US (and I'm a blond haired blue eyed definitely white guy gringo!!) Only the cartels have guns and they tend to keep things between themselves in well known areas to stay away from whereas everyone in the US has a gun and shootings are randomly happening everyday, everywhere and anywhere you may go! Where I live is two miles from the beach and the harbor malecon/centro area, it's the busiest and most crowded part of the city. I have a car but really only use it to go to the local beaches to go surfing or to the "Big" mercados and the occasional two hour drive south of town to camp and surf at the multiple perfect point breaks near a sleepy fishing village named Camalu. I just filled it up for the fourth time since flying to McAllen Texas to the only Consulate where could I still qualify on my SS pension to get my Temporary Resident Visa and driving here from LA last November. Within a half mile of me I have everything I regularly need that I can walk or take a short bike ride to and the weather is perfect year round with low heat, no humidity, mosquitos or bugs so I can spend my days outside without the need for a/c. It gets cool enough to sleep comfortably at night with some blankets. I have a no GMO freshly harvested organic fruit, juice and vegetable stand right across the street where everything is low price, like an avocado for around $0.50us and numerous food stands and restaurants where I can easily get a tasty lunch or dinner. I walk a few times a week for lunch at a place where you can get fresh caught $1.30us fish tacos con todo and another place where you can get get Al Pastor (marinated pork on a fired spit, mmmm!) tacos con todo for $14 pesos or around $0.77us each!! I rent a beautifully furnished one bedroom one bath with all utilities, cable and internet with maid and laundry service included for $12,000 pesos per month or around $654us at todays exchange rate of 18.33 in the higher end Colonia Hidalgo part of Ensenada. It was just under $600us when I moved here. Even though my electric is included, my bill has never been over $7.50us per month! Anyone who is still on the fence and contemplating a move to Mexico to live a much more affordable, healthier, happier and safer life, don't wait or keep putting it off because the time will never seem to be "just right"! After all isn't it a higher quality no stress life what we all strive for? Buena suerte!🤷♂😎🏄🌮🍍🥥🍯
I love your place. I like the modern kitchen cabinets. I also like the black bars along the steps! yep! Most houses don't have ANY rails along the steps...VERY dangerous!. Your Landlord REALLY thought about the water issue. I have NEVER seen that setup with the water bottle pump into the fridge. That's wonderful. Landlord might consider putting a split unit IN the bedroom after you've lived there for a bit.
I like the black bars as well! I would be afraid to live somewhere without the railings! Someone else commented on the water set up. I had never seen it either. I do have a split in the bedroom just not in the bathroom.
$1032.45 in USD??!! I’m paying $974 for a 2b,1.5 bath in Indianapolis. No pool, no extra cabinet space, a basic townhome. This is a great price for ALL you have included! And you have a very nice place by the way. Thank you for being so detailed as always! #CountingOurDays

Your rent is budget friendly and it’s according to your budget. I will retire in four years and I’m making plans to retire in Mexico. I’ve had enough of the United States. My first visit to Mexico was in 2018 just for fun and I instantly fell in love with the vibe. I just left Mexico this pass October with family (third visit). I will visit Mexico for the fourth time solo for three weeks in June of 2024. I plan to ride the Maya Train and spend sometime in Merida. FOR your stove rack ; try visiting a large hardware store, Lowe's, Home Depot, take the dimensions with you Call your AC guy and ask him to raise up the bottom attachment mountings maybe 2 inches, then the air flow would go straight out vs hitting you in the back. Is some adjustment with the vent flap, you can raise it up higher too You live like we do here in Brasil, we go to bed at 0100 and wake up at noon ! Totally retired ! Have rented a 1br 100 feet from the ocean for $400 a month there but bought a 700 sq ft apto and live on $600 a month !
There is an aftermarket parts store in Mexico that I will try. Home Depot said the stove parts cannot be sold separate and they can't order . Enjoy your retirement! I lived in a 500 sq ft condo in Bangkok before Mexico and that really was all I needed.
I am in my test ex-pat city and am ABSOLUTELY going minimalist. Loved your home's look; it's so much like what I've set up and feels strangely affirming! LOVE the pump for the water jugs; wow. Subscribing to your channel and I'm only 10 minutes in, lol.

Congratulations on your beautiful home. At least you are much closer to family than I will be. Hadn't consider the travel time between home and family. You have great taste in design. Struggling with trying to blend art deco with modern. Thanks for sharing your home with us.
This is my first time viewing your channel. I deeply appreciate your detailed descriptions and thoughts as you present. Thank you! I'll be moving to Merida in March.
Love this video. Learned a lot. I moved back to the US in 09/23 after living in BCS for a decade. Health issues and the USD dollar bombing out on me, became an issue. I plan to move back to MX, as soon as I learn more Spanish and have a way better plan to live out my life in Mexico! Excellent video!!!
I love your place! Love the yellow throughout your place 💛. I am planning to leave the US too ..not sure if it'll be Mexico or Panama ....but I would love it if I could get a place just the size of yours! Thanks for sharing...these videos are such an inspiration!
If you want to feel more like home, like you can blend in the Panama is good. If you want to pay less for a beautiful home, Merida. It has gotten too expensive in Panama and I don’t recommend further out of the city where many expats live. Different issues.
Your house is really lovely. I noticed the lack of handrails in every house I've seen, and I'm glad you, unlike others, talked about the problem of mold there. I thought it was a coastal thing but after looking at the map, you're not far from the channel. So you .must be in a gated community. Was a highrise never in the cards for you? Glad you're back, Malikah. Enjoy hanging with you. Nice place, love the touch of yellow.
The humidity here is brutal! I was in a high rise in Bangkok. I hate hearing people slamming their doors, talking, arguing and walking past my door shuffling their feet 😂.
A small twin tub machine (semi automatic, washer and spin dryer) may work well for your washing. It requires more attention due to the manual expelling and refilling of the washing tub but it is gentle on clothing and the spin dryer allows you to save on electric drying. Add a drying clothes rack and it can take care of the laundry needs of a small family.
I love the video. You have a beautiful home and I can't wait to move to Mexico for the next few years. That's my plan. Anyway. Enjoy your stay. You have a beautiful home. Enjoy it. I love it and thanks for the video
Wow! I budgeted for way too much, it seems! Amazing. I will be moving to either Merida or Progreso next month. i want 3/3,5 as well. Thought it would be way more than that. Malikah, thank you for the information. You have made my day!
Understood and no problem! I have a very close relative that just purchased a home in Chelem that will sign for me if needed, but I think I got it covered! Thank you again, Malikah! Maybe we will be neighbors🙂! @@malikahonthemove
DIY humidifier tip, get two buckets, drill small holes in the bottom of the first one to drain the liquid once it absorbs the moisture. Secondly place the first bucket inside of the second one and fill the first bucket with pool salt. I’ve done this for years in my basement and kitchen for years. You can always break apart the salt once it hardeners to reuse. For small spaces I just get a large salt and pepper shaker and place salt in those and label .
Malikah you are right 10033$ a month is a steal because in new York city for a no bedroom or kitchen apartment cost 1000 or more ; so having bedroom 3 half bathroom for the amount you pay is fantastic. You go girl: you travel and how your living your best life God bless you. I love how you are able to find solutions to problems in your home and sharing with us, you made me want to move there. Right on
This is really helpful. We went to Merida for a month to check it out. Love Queretaro, too. A bit too much city for us. But there are some great neighborhoods. We're building a house in South America in 2025 which i hope to be similar to this one. Getting ideas about build styles, heat, cooling, etc. enjoy. thanks for the education! 🎉❤
Greetings! I just discovered your channel, and, let me tell you, I love it! Congratulations on this beautiful home and my best of wishes for you and your future! Gracias for Joe I hope the door to your home to all of us ❤️🙏
I also live in Conkal. All the AC units have a dry button. Its like a built in dehumidifier. You are not kidding when you say they don't think things through when building homes. Most Mexicans don't bake or use the oven much. It's just not part of their traditional meals. It also causes a lot of heat in homes as the stoves are not as insulated as the ones we use in the U.S. Cooking outside is very common.I personally use the air fryer to bake.
Hey neighbor! Yes, the dry button wears the AC out faster per the technician. I do use the air fryer but wanted to make cake and try to make bread/rolls that are too big for the air fryer.😔
Love this video my sister GOD BLESS YOU. My wife and I plan on doing a month in the outskirts of Playa del Carmen soon. Your video was very helpful 🤝🏾👍🏾😆
Omg your place is so beautiful!! Congrats on your move to Mexico and a slower pace of life. I’m starting to plan my escape from Canada so thank you for sharing this information. 🙏🏽
@@malikahonthemove Unfortunately the cost of living here in Toronto is out of control. Rent and food prices are beyond ridiculous. If I could only get a job down in Mexico or a full remote job I would have already left Canada. My research has started and I won’t stop until I make my dream a reality.
You're a hot stuff! I love how you describe and explain things. Lived in FL, had the same issues. Geckoes and mold are a huge turn off and the idea that water is not potable sounds bad. I live in a small apartment in Connecticut with subsidized housing. Have mold in our building. I must get out of here- I'm so allergic to it. But no idea where to look and still pay $400 a month. So here I am, thinking Mexico might be the answer. Been watching a lot of videos. Not with tarantula's, geckos, the Cartell (one video they said stay away from -gonna slaughter the name- Zachatakas- the Cartell has taken it over!) So I'm more dissuaded than I started. Really appreciate your honesty. Felice Natidas!
Hi and thank you so much! I know mold is so scary! I lived in FL as well and when in Alabama it was the same issue. The geckos don’t bother me , it’s pretty much insects/ bugs of any kind. Many areas of Mexico are safe to live and have good cost of living for some things , others not so much.
Armadio for custom wood furniture at amazing prices!! I just had them make most of my furniture for my house, currently an air bnb because I am not moving yet. Aiming for 2025 move.
Amazon sells a tape like you’re talking about to keep lizards out. I put it on the bottom of my door in Cuernavaca for that very reason!! I can’t remember what it was called, but look for it. It’s also great to keep out draughts which you probably wouldn’t need lol. They call them guardapolvos para puertas (just checked).

You can buy a dehumidifier for your home. It will remove all the moisture from your air. A house that size you might need one per floor.
Those air conditioners typically have a dehumidifier setting. Mine does.

Congratulations on your beautiful home. At least you are much closer to family than I will be. Hadn't consider the travel time between home and family. You have great taste in design. Struggling with trying to blend art deco with modern. Thanks for sharing your home with us.
Thanks ! Yes, being closer to family is a blessing. SE Asia was way too far for me.
❤ beautiful home and area you look so happy. Beautiful energy
Thank you!
Beautiful home. Thank you for sharing your space.
Thank you. 🦋
This is my first time viewing your channel. I deeply appreciate your detailed descriptions and thoughts as you present. Thank you! I'll be moving to Merida in March.
Thank you! Best wishes on your move!
Super informative……great information…thanks for sharing!
Love your home! You gave great tips as well! Thanks!
Thank you and best wishes ☺️🦋
I have family in Conkal. It is a nice sleepy town. You’re right about the humidity, and it can get hot! Love your spot!
Thanks! It is a cool little place. I would rather be hot than cold 😊
Thanks for sharing! Super, super cute place and the decorating is great. Great price for the space and a pool. Enjoy!
Thanks for watching! 🦋
Beautiful 🌴. Great to find your peace.🌷
Cool place and nice pool. Tour decor looks nice !
Really enjoyed everything about this presentation. You are refreshing.
Thank you so much Linda!
I love your place! Love the yellow throughout your place 💛. I am planning to leave the US too ..not sure if it'll be Mexico or Panama ....but I would love it if I could get a place just the size of yours! Thanks for sharing...these videos are such an inspiration!
Thank you ! I actually wanted to do orange instead. Best wishes on your exit from the US!
If you want to feel more like home, like you can blend in the Panama is good. If you want to pay less for a beautiful home, Merida. It has gotten too expensive in Panama and I don’t recommend further out of the city where many expats live. Different issues.
@@journeytothemosthigh5021 I considered Panama (Panama City or David) but decided against it for the cost.
@@malikahonthemove YOUR HOME IS LOVELY....I LOVE YELLOW TOO BUT MY FAVORITE COLOR IS GREEN..
Thanks for the tips!
@@malikahonthemoveYou're welcome.
Your home is very nice.. keep enjoying your life in Mexico 🙏🏾

Thanks for subscribing!
I love the video. You have a beautiful home and I can't wait to move to Mexico for the next few years. That's my plan. Anyway. Enjoy your stay. You have a beautiful home. Enjoy it. I love it and thanks for the video
Thanks and thanks for watching!
Wow! I budgeted for way too much, it seems! Amazing. I will be moving to either Merida or Progreso next month. i want 3/3,5 as well. Thought it would be way more than that. Malikah, thank you for the information. You have made my day!
Just remember your initial costs will be much more. You will pay close to 4 months rent when moving in.
Understood and no problem! I have a very close relative that just purchased a home in Chelem that will sign for me if needed, but I think I got it covered! Thank you again, Malikah! Maybe we will be neighbors🙂! @@malikahonthemove
Love the pool and outdoor shower! Try it, they are spectacular!
Great tip! Same thing as the refillable damp rid containers I have . I’m going to find where I can get pool salt and try this!
It's really nice! And you are lovely.
Thank you! 😊
Muy hermosas las ventanas y puertas grandes y de cristal pero cuando venga un buen ciclon van a desaparecer. Saludos.
Right on
Thank you for watching Paulette! I sure am trying hard to live my best life.
Thanks! Building is so exciting and frustrating as well. Best wishes to you! 🦋
What part of SA?
@@AssendedWuan-kd7fy
Not SA, Sudan. Khartoum and Omdurman.
@@malikahonthemove I meant what part of South America
Hi Maliyah, your home is lovely. Being minimalistic in a rental makes sense especially if you are traveling. Thank you for sharing.!

Thank you so much!!
Beautiful video. Beautiful home. Thanks for video
Thanks for watching!
Beautiful place i like how you decorated!
Thank you! 🤗
I absolutely love Merida, been there twice and I'd surely live there.
Very nice home! Enjoyed the walk around tour!
You go Girl! Your home is awesome!
Thank you!! 😊

Thank you for watching! 🦋
You have a beautiful home. I love your place and I think the price for what you have is great.
Thank you so much!
Omg your place is so beautiful!! Congrats on your move to Mexico and a slower pace of life. I’m starting to plan my escape from Canada so thank you for sharing this information. 🙏🏽
Thanks ! I’ve never been to Canada but I see it’s beautiful and I wonder why so many leave? I am leaving Mexico this week. Slow but a bit too slow ☺️
@@malikahonthemove Unfortunately the cost of living here in Toronto is out of control. Rent and food prices are beyond ridiculous. If I could only get a job down in Mexico or a full remote job I would have already left Canada. My research has started and I won’t stop until I make my dream a reality.
@@Arianna_SofiaXO yes!! Take however long you need but don’t give up, the right time will come. Best wishes to you 🌸🦋
Love your place!! Nice price. Me and my kids are coming to Merida in January for some time and I can’t wait to explore.
Hope you enjoy it!
Beautiful home. Stay safe n enjoy life:)
Thank you for the tour auntie
I really enjoyed your content here!! And you’re funny. Lovely minimalist home
Thanks ! I will definitely look for it.
I want your pool and those lights! Great tips about the spiders!!!
You can have it when you build your beautiful home here in Mexico! 🦋
Nice video and good information. thank you

Love the place! Would you be willing to share the local artist that delivered your canvas.?
Thank you! I sure will share her info. Beatriz Kuri is her name and her IG is beatrizkuriart. Her gallery is in Altabrisa by the Walmart Uptown and Hilton. Short walk up the street.
