    I have been living in Aguascalientes, MX for 18 months, my current monthly expenses run about 2800 USD a month, I eat out 75% of the time, my rent runs 14,000 MXN / 850 USD at the current exchange rate (16.5 MXN to 1 USD), but I am in a much larger house than I need, or for that matter really want, but it is close to friends and amenities that I desire. So, if I conserved and lived a more moderate lifestyle, I believe I could cut my expenses almost by half. A friend of mine rents a 2 br, 2 ba house for 4500 MXN / 272 USD a month and has a family of 4 living on equivalent of 1800 USD a month. As far as utilities, the following are my monthly averages: water/sewer 373 MXN / 23 USD, Natural Gas 323 MXN / 20 USD, Electricity (CFE) 125 MXN / 7.60 USD.

    I live in the city of Culiacan, Sinaloa, this city is considered the cradle of the big drug traffickers, but I still feel that it is safe, as long as you stay away from the drug business, I lived on Long Island in NY, also in Chicago and Miami. Florida and well there are also criminals but I still felt safe...crime exists in all countries...greetings.

    I spent many years traveling in Mexico during the 1980s. You could live on 500 dollars for a few months, including rent. Things have definitely changed. Im considering moving there later this year, not sure yet. It’s definitely a beautiful country. I would be traveling alone and that is scary compared to how things were back in the 80s. Wish me luck 🍀

    Heads up, Toyota is putting a small truck on the market that starts around $11,000 NEW. Bad new for the American market is we’re not getting them. Good new for you is they’re available in the Mexican market. Thought I’d pass it along if your still in the market. Not everyday you hear of a new Toyota truck even sub 20k. I need to look into none citizen vehicle ownership & the ability for taking it out of Mexico deeper into Central America. If the stars align with all that, I’ve thought of getting one just for exploring south of the border.

    It's a sales pitch for their more in-depth reports. It's a business, a very successful business.
    It's like management, they lean towards the carrot which appears to work for them.
    If you want to live the American sanitized version of Mexico, many places are going to cost about what their government now requires for temporary residency.

    • @thegoldendog7991
      @thegoldendog7991 2 місяці тому

      You certainly could live to the residency requirement potential, but you’d be living fairly well, at least for now. My belief is that the Mexican government wants people who move there to spend more in every way from housing to entertainment hence the increased residency requirement. Rents and house prices are already on the rise, though still potentially cheaper than the US or Canada.

As I use to follow Eat, Baila Travels, I soon realized how opinionated and hateful Mecicans can get! I got such hateful comments from their mexican followers!? I always would hear how polite they are, wrong, wrong! I was taken a back to how quick they were to put me down when I would comment on Eat Baila Travels videos as they would ask for our opinion. Which leads me to asking my question as I stated earlier! 🤔 I am expecting more from Jordan, more insight since he has resided in Mexico for quite some time now, as an American. The good? Many people walk 4 across and take up the whole sidewalk. They act like they don’t see you walking the opposite direction. I thought it was me because I’m so small but I have read it 1000x. We moved to a middle size city in Veracruz state 2 years ago in the middle of the pandemic. The economy of Mexico is global just like the economy of the US or Europe. Ford, VW and Honda sell the same cars here as in the US and for pretty much the same prices. Samsung washers and dryers cost the same. Blueberries, strawberries and tomatoes cost the same; many of the fruits and veggies in the US stores are grown in Mexico in any case. What we find less costly is labor. We couldn't afford a housekeeper or gardener in the US, but here they are relatively inexpensive although we pay top rate. We found a superb handyman who we pay 700 pesos a day or about 40 to 45 US dollars. We had to argue with him to pay him that much; originally he only was charging us 600 pesos per day. My electric bill is about $90 US dollars every two months for a 2,500 square foot house. Of course we only use AC in the bedrooms and only at night. Regarding crime and safety, I think it is important to keep in mind that in the US in 2022 according to FBI statistics arrests for serious crimes ranged from 9.3% for motor vehicle theft to 26.1% for rape. Aggravated assaults and murders are easier to solve at 41% and 52% because the victims and perpetrators frequently know each other. So solving crimes is not great in the US. I haven't found similar statistics for Mexico, but I have read that overall only about 8% of serious crimes are solved in Mexico. The serious crime that most people here tell me they are most concerned about is kidnapping of children, girls for the sex trade and boys for organ harvesting. In two years of living in a non-tourist area I have had no direct experience with crime or the police and I walk 9 to 10 miles per day through a variety of neighborhoods for shopping, professional appointments, visits to the gym and bank, and exercise. But the greatest concern of most of my friends is the prevalence of crime. One friend who owns a restaurant is very angry because he has to pay "protection" (derecho de piso) money to gangsters to keep his restaurant open and family safe. Another friend who was considering opening a restaurant decided that he would remain a chef so he wouldn't have to deal with that issue. I recall the same problem when I lived in the San Francisco area 50 years ago. Finally, the main highway through here to Mexico City is subject to truck hijackings in one of the more remote mountain areas and a friend who works for the federal attorney general office and grew up in that area has warned me not to go hiking there. It seems to be like how the people of the Appalachians were depicted in the movie Deliverance. Overall, I feel quite safe in Mexico and I find the people very friendly and helpful. When I tripped, fell and hit my head last summer, bystanders got me out of the street, stopped the bleeding and kept me safe until I regained consciousness. They got my phone from me and called my wife to come get me and take me to the hospital. So, no this isn't "life in paradise", and we don't live only on our US social security, but I am very pleased with the move.

    25:45 Having had prostate surgery in mazatlan for 7500 usd was a shocking experience with local anesthesia while you are awake and a surgeon is cutting on your privates. Then wore a catheter for a week after. I was told to take ibuprophen for pain that didn't ease the suffering enough. Every blood clot trying to exit was a painful experience. If this had happened in my town by lake superior at zero degrees, I think would have been more difficult. In mazatlan, I walked to and from the hospital. That wouldn't be allowed in usa. Now that it is over, no mezcal for ninety days and only two cups of coffee for breakfast for 45, my enjoyment has evaporated a lot but tangerine travel training made the whole experience bearable. To clarify, if you look like you have money, expensive car, high end neighborhood etc, you will experience home break ins, get your tires stolen, maybe a little shake down and people taking your car, etc. but those are the absolute minority, so if you are an average citizen in an average neighborhood safety increases exponentially. • @MonterreyLiving
      @MonterreyLiving 6 місяців тому

      Really depends where you live. Where I live in Monterrey its normal for people to drive nice cars (Audi, BMW and Mercedes are popular), park them outside their house and not worry about getting anything stolen. Unless of course you go to a shady neighborhood well then you're simply asking for trouble. I don't have to worry about getting jumped or getting my stuff stolen at gun point because i rarely hang out in shady places. I stick to the middle/upper middle class area. Now, i wouldn't say the same thing if I was in Mexico City, that's a whole different animal and I'd probably be careful about my surroundings and belongings. If you're going to stay in la Roma or Condesa then good chance that you will be safe during your stay, but there are many areas in CDMX that you should be careful, especially downtown area. But I still agree 100% with you, and in many other parts of MX i would much rather avoid catching unwanted attention.

It is ridiculous that someone has major surgery and is expected to only take Tylenol! Add to this the opioid shortage nationwide people who are in extreme amounts of pain from end stage cancer etc. is going without.
