I know it’s not a type specialty but I always thought as gladion as a “friendship evolution” specialist, he uses Crobat, lucario and silvally in almost all his battles and “the edgy guy learning to love” is a big enough trope to make that work, slap on a blissey, alolan persian and a togekiss and that’s a pretty solid team for him
Plus, Michael already made Barry a Honey Tree specialist rather than a Type specialist. So he definitely could’ve changed Gladion’s outfit to red, pink, and white, and given him a Friendship Evolutions Gym team.
I see your point. But, The Dark Type fits him, because he's had a rough past, uses a lot of dark type Pokemon, lives on the streets, is associated with an Evil Team, wears dark clothing and is an Edgelord, through and through, unlike certain others.
@@trainerflowey2729 Well, maybe his Gym Team would be a combination of Dark-Types and Friendship Evos. (what do you think that would result in? Both a full Friendship Evo team and a team that is a mixture of Friendship Evos and Dark-Types?)

17:27 Unless Shauna's Goodra transitioned from male to female between her Route 19 battle and the Battle Maison becoming available, that's two Goodra, not one. Same conclusion (she has more dragon-type Pokemon than Pokemon of any other type), different premise. Also, the Route 19 Goodra is illegal. Sliggoo's supposed to evolve at level 50, but Shauna's Route 19 Goodra is level 49. This is of course even more fodder for making her a dragon trainer, since dragon trainers have a proud tradition of having illegal, under-leveled pseudo-legends.
You can too in Alola, actually. If I remember correctly, the 1% Bagon encounter on top of the cliff right before battling Hala has a chance to sos call a Salamence that is only level 15 or so.
About the rivals becoming evil team leaders May/Brendan for example their team wouldn't make a whole lot of sense for either Magma or Aqua as they have parts of both Same thing applies to Barry as team galactic leader since Cyrus has a lot of dark types As for gym leaders becoming rivals They wouldn't necessarily have to specialize in one type like Bede or Marnie but have a more diverse team like Blue
@@everest5718 I almost forgot to add that it's Barry's strongest overall--it has the highest base stat total, it's his highest-level one that he always uses, and its moveset is devastating: strong STAB, counter moves for all its weaknesses and resistances, and overall high base power.
I think Blue being a flying type leader is the most fitting. He takes over the Viridian City gym, which rather or not the Giovani was originally going to be a flying gym leader is true or not, the badge still looks like a feather. Also, Pidgey was his first catch according to the optional battle west of Viridian City. Plus Gyarados means that he is always depicted with at least two flying types, but Machamp replaces Alakazam in the fourth generation so he is not always shown with two psychic types.
Well, datamine on the Green betas showed that there was supposed to be a kid in place of Giovanni as the Viridian Gym Leader, with only 2 low level Flying types in his team; funny thing is that he had the same pose as Giovanni, probably hinting that the kid was emulating the Rocket Boss acting like a bully, and putting him as an early, very easy Leader makes perfect sense. Also the same datamine showed that when this character got scrapped and they put Giovanni in its place, the team suddenly bumped up to 5 fully evolved members but stayed entirely Flying type; combine this with the other 2 Giovanni teams being incomplete but strangely including a now absent Scyther and it's pretty clear that, for a while, they planned to save the original type theme of the Viridian Gym while moving it to be the last instead of the first. Blaine's overworld sprite actually being Katsura's, the original guide book having a portrait with Katsura as the 7th Gym Leader and the Juggler in Silph Co. using the dialogue of the scrapped android character already show that Gamefreak had to do a big lore and gameplay change at the last moment; they forgetting to change the Viridian badge from being clearly feather shaped to something more earth related isn't surprising.
Considering Blue becomes the leader of the Viridian Gym and hands you the Earth Badge, I think it would have made sense to have him be a Ground-type specialist.
If Lillie was included too as ice type Kanhuna, I wouldn't change ether of her outfits because both of them already make her look like an ice type specialist
Also in the anime- gladion’s lycanroc is shown most in all his battles, especially the Alola league final. I know it’s not a dark type but it’s one of his signature Pokémon alongside umbreon and silvally and it definitely looks quite mean so I think you should add midnight form lycanroc to his team too
Personally, I’d have gone with a Ground type setup for Trace, because of the whole arc with him and Cubone. Maybe Marowak, Alolan Dugtrio, Rhydon, Nidoking/Nidoqueen, Sandslash, and Golem.
Brendan having Sceptile makes more sense when you consider the fact, that most of the time Brendan is shown animated or given a starter, he typically has a Sceptile.
I thought Blue was going to have a ground type team considering he now has the GROUND TYPE GYM and gives the EARTHbadge. But I suppose the type of the gym is based on what type the leader uses instead of having a specific type for a location so I won’t complain, great video man.

Barry being a honey tree specialist is oddly fitting. I can picture him running around frantically, slathering honey everywhere, checking trees and threatening to fine the Pokémon if they don't show up fast enough.
I mean, he not only had absolutley no consistencies between any of his teams, but he was also the final boss, not to mention his "ace" being the opposite cover legendary
Michael: chooses to make Berry a honey tree especiallist Me, who associates him with Staraptor because is one of the first pokemons he captures: ok, but birds
#001 I would've thought he'd be a water specialist with the Floatzel since he is practically Crasher Wake's Fanboy. Or a Fire Specialist due to his energetic nature. (Which would make for an interesting contrast to Wake)
I honestly burst out laughing when you said "honey tree specialist." I think it's a great idea to have a theme team and not always a type specific one. A year ago, I was challenged to create a gym leader team based on a type, and I got the rock type. I stuck to mostly rock types, but had the overarching theme of gems and diamonds. I used a combo of diamond-like Pokemon and those that remind me of crystals or even having the potential to become diamond-like under pressure. The team I came up with was Carbink, Onix, Gigalith, Aurorus, Aggron, and Mega Steelix, just because I didn't want to use a (Mega) Diancie.
Well... Pokemon Uranium had several Gym Leaders with not-type speciality: - Davern uses Pokemon found in cave - Cali uses Pokemon found and used by the fishers (which... in fact... all but her ace are water-types) - Hinata uses Pokemon associated with sun and light - Kaito uses Pokemon associated with moon and darkness Plus there are dual-type specialists: - Rosalind uses Psychic- and Fairy-type Pokemon - Vaeryn uses Dragon- and Ice-type Pokemon
@@Oscarus4250 right, but fanmade games are going to take more creative liberties than Game Freak, who may never stray from trying to have a monotype team. (Even though we've seen limited regional dexes make for a bad team, ex :Flint from the E4 in DP)
@@maryl.5984 Ah yes.... A Fire type Elite Four member... With only 2 Fire type Pokemon However... The rest makes some sense: - Steelix is from metal, just like flint (Flint... I know she isn’t really a rival, but it would be cool if Lillie was included, either as a fairy type specialist like in the games, or an ice type one (since there is no ice focused trainer in the region). As a fairy type kahuna, from the her in-game teams she could have Clefable, Ribombee, and Comfey, while from her anime teams she could have Alolan Ninetails and Magearna (feels weird to give her a mystic/legendary, but she’s already heavily associated with one; Cosmog; and it’s base stat total is 600 and in the pseudo legendary range). Rounding out her team could be a Mega-Altaria, as Altaria is her Ultra Guardian ride Pokémon, and the mega form grants it the fairy type. If she were an ice type kahuna, a possible team could be: Alolan Ninetails Alolan Sandslash Glaceon Lapras Dewgong Vanilluxe Though this is more me spit-balling based on her vibes and the new ice types of the region.
23:36 Side note. By completing the crown Tundra DLC, Klara & Avery use both Galarian Slowking and Galarian Slowbro at the same time in the Galarian Star Tournament. I personally would either swap Salazzle & Indeedee for Galarian Slowking, or swap Slowbro for Slowking on Avery's team because I think Galarian Slowking fits Avery's aesthetic more than Klara's. Furthermore, Avery sends out Slowking last in all battles after The Crown Tundra, while Klara send's out Slowbro last. Making this decision even more viable.
Michael gave may blaziken because there was no other fire type option left. he also didnt give sceptile to brendon, he said its honorary pokemon just to even things out with may and left us to decide
I think Barry would be good as a water-type specialist, because he takes Crasher Wake as his master (despite Wake has never accepted Barry as his pupil)
@@paulschultz8011 in a rematch, I would add one more, and replace one. maybe like a Milotik or Luvdisc as a water/dragon, and a Walrain for extra ice damage. however, if he wanted to try and play dirty and make jealous, he’d probably place either a Palkia or Kiogar as ace. making him a gym leader with a legendary on his team. for Kiogar, had this been expanded to include it, maybe one part of the match would be his regular, but then at a certain point, he’d then go into primal form.
I maybe would have made Brendan a water trainer, due to the weather theme in the generation. Wailord, Pelipper, Ludicolo, Castform (to stay consistent with May's)... maybe Huntail? Then either Swampert to stay in line with the Blaziken, or Relicanth or something else. Gotta love that honey tree team though.
I feel like tierno should have a blastoise. He has one in the anime I’m pretty sure and I know you don’t want starters on their teams, but he spins on his shell and it’s cool
Also Ash's Squirtle hydro bomb made it spin on its shell under that logic a Blastoise may be able to do the same thing, and a dancing Blastoise would try to do it on its back a la break dance
I like his gimmick; I think it honestly kind of makes sense for Barry to have Empoleon and have water as a type specialty though. The other two starters are represented in Sinnoh on GL/E4 teams and Barry idolizes Crasher Wake and convinced him to be his mentor to train him in Platinum/Masters. But yeah the honey is a cool idea
There's actually another reason Cheren is a normal gym leader. In between Black and White and the sequels Lenora actually retired from being a Gym Leader
Love the idea of making Barry a honey tree specialist. Honestly think it would have been cooler if you had done more alternate themes like this.

@@bonkeroooo agreed
Well... Pokemon Uranium had several Gym Leaders with not-type speciality:
- Davern uses Pokemon found in cave
- Cali uses Pokemon found and used by the fishers (which... in fact... all but her ace are water-types)
- Hinata uses Pokemon associated with sun and light
- Kaito uses Pokemon associated with moon and darkness
Plus there are dual-type specialists:
- Rosalind uses Psychic- and Fairy-type Pokemon
- Vaeryn uses Dragon- and Ice-type Pokemon
@@Oscarus4250 Rosalind's team is apparently "illusion" Pokémon, whatever that means. Also, her Duplicat is Normal-type.
@@jonahkim2029 I forgot that she owns Duplicat
Plus, besides it, all of the rest are Psychic or Fairy
@@Oscarus4250 right, but fanmade games are going to take more creative liberties than Game Freak, who may never stray from trying to have a monotype team. (Even though we've seen limited regional dexes make for a bad team, ex :Flint from the E4 in DP)
@@maryl.5984 Ah yes.... A Fire type Elite Four member... With only 2 Fire type Pokemon
However... The rest makes some sense:
- Steelix is from metal, just like flint (Flint... That's his name - some analogy)
- Driftblim is like those meteological ballons; it need hot air to fly (plus its Hidden Ability - Flame Boost - refers to it)
- Lopunny because... Welp... She's *hot*
If she were an ice type kahuna, a possible team could be:
Alolan Ninetails
Alolan Sandslash
Glaceon
Lapras
Dewgong
Vanilluxe
Though this is more me spit-balling based on her vibes and the new ice types of the region.
