Personally, I think Ethan should have a shiny Gyrados on his team, mostly to reference the fact that the player would’ve encountered it in the Lake of Rage in the Johto games.
Agreed, not to mention Ethan/Kris/Lyra also get a gift Eevee which could evolve into Umbreon, Dratini, and Tyrogue in addition to the forced Sudowoodo encounter
Personally I feel like Calem and Serena should have Mega Lucario (due to getting one from Korrina) and Lapras (since you’re given one by a breeder close to Shalour City)
I think that calem should have ash's team from the XYZ anime because ash looks like a bootleg version of him so I'd say swap out Pikachu with Xerneas and you got a good team.
What killed me about being gifted a Mega Lucario is that I had literally went out of my way to catch and raise a Riolu I caught super-early in the game. And suddenly this lady is like "Hey wanna abandon your Lucario to have mine instead?" Like..... no?
The Red in G/S and HG/SS seems to be based on Pokémon Yellow's Red, where he's given the three Kanto starters from 3 different NPCs, and his Pikachu, being his highest level Pokémon, was probably his starter
That would make sense, if Green (Blue Eng) didn't lose his starter as a Gym Leader while retaining the rest of his Kanto team. He has no reason to lose his if Red is getting his own via other means, and Gym Leaders can use starters.
Selene's starter is Rowlett in Masters and the manga which makes sense when you consider her name. Selene is an alternate name for the Greek Artemis/Diana who just so happens to be an archer who is heavily associated with the moon.
I personally imagine them as having Rowlet myself, mostly due to the fact that Hau isn't the only trainer affected by your choice of starter, and picking Rowlet just happens to line up to give Kukui the heel wrestler Pokémon... Not to imply any relation between him and that mysterious Masked Royal fella, who said anything about that?
@@sethurott9927 I meant in regards to the champion battle at the end of Sun & Moon. Kukui has the last stage of whichever starter neither you or Hau have (being the one super-effective against your starter), hence if the player chose Rowlet, the Kukui has Incineroar, and seeing as he has a wrestler alter ego, it just feels kinda neat.
Wouldn’t it be the other wat around? The anime debuted before Yellow was released, so I think it’s more likely that turning Pikachu into a starter and then spreading the other three into the world to entice children who already saw Ash having all four at once to follow suit 😊
Bulbasaur in Cerulean, Charmander on Route 24, Bulbasaur in Vermillion, Pikachu the starter, the Eevee in Celadon Mansion, the Lapras from the Silph Co. employee, and Snorlax blocking off routes. I guess that explains why they replaced Espeon with Lapras instead of Glaceon for the Hail-immune pokemon. Lapras is more relevant to the story.
Maybe because in the manga. Red was able borrow greens squirtle and blues charmander for the combine powerful something tri type thing to attack the 3 combined legendary birds. If i remember it right🤣
Him having all 3 starters & a pikachu perfectly represents Trainer Red from the Pokémon Yellow version of the game.. in this game Trainer Red can obtain all 3 starters as well as Pikachu.. so in my opinion it makes perfect sense he has all of them.
Counter argument for Ethan from HGSS. There is actually a perfect amount of gift/storyline pokemon for him to have. - Typlosion (it’s canon that Ethan chooses cyndaquil as shown by the semi-recent music video) - Togekiss (gift egg) - Dragonite (from dragon den dratini) - Eevee that turns into espeon or umbreon (gift from Bill) - Sudowudo (the one you have to encounter to get past goldenrod) - Red Gyrados (from the Lake of Rage) Edit: yes I understand Ethan is also shown with tyranitar and ampharos in the music video, I’m basing this team off of the most relevant pokes you encounter in game, if you really like you can sub dragonite for tyranitar
*-Dragonite (from Dragon User Challenge Gift Dratini in Dragon's Den in Blackthorn City) Fixed that for you. Easier one to get than the Game Corner one in HGSS.
I think the reason why the female protag for Gen 1 was named "Leaf" as opposed to "Green" was because she was only later included in the Fire Red and Leaf Green versions, so as opposed to simply just calling her Green, as some kind of a reference to her inclusion in the remakes, they went with "Leaf" since the remake was Leaf Green.
Actually, in the manga Lyra isn’t even there( it’s just kris dressed like Lyra) and kris gets meganium. You could make the argument that kris is Lyra and vice versa, leaving room for feraligatr for silver.
Or just let lyra start with marill as the npc friend. She doesn't need a starter because she already has a pokemon likely given to her by her grandparents, leaving the other 2 for silver and kris who need them more
15:14 I don't know why but I like Barry with Chimchar. His weird monkey dance animation when you fight him in the games just seems to scream "I am a Monkey Boy"
He’s also always described as loud, energetic and hot-headed. Infernape makes so much more sense for him. Plus Dawn then gets Piplup which is obviously correct.
@@tjtribble. No; Barry gets the pokemon the player starter is weak to; if Barry picked Chimchar, that means Dawn picked Turtwig; if Dawn's Piplup is kept, then Barry will pick Turtwig.

In my belief, Hilbert and Hilda are separate characters, just in another timeline, with Black being more focused on Hilbert and White being about Hilda. In Black 2 and White 2's postgame, you can return to Nuvema town and talk to the previous protagonist's mother, and depending on the version she mentions a different character gender. In Black 2, she says "You look just like him," but in White 2 she says "You look just like her.". The starters won't change between versions, but the legendaries do. Hilbert will have a Reshiram, and Hilda would have a Zekrom, therefore in the sequels Nate have N's Zekrom and Rosa would have N's Reshiram.
…Uh, not to be that person, but according to Bulbapedia, the “You look just like her” line (with no “you look just like him” line) comes after the BW protagonist’s mother mistakes the B2W2 protagonist for her own child. She says “Huh…? Excuse me! How embarrassing! Mistaking a visitor for my own child! You’re [player name]?” If you say yes, she says, “I knew it, you look just like her,” then talks about the B2W2 protagonist’s mother. (In fact, both other lines referencing her child have her referring to them in gender-neutral terms.)
I also believe this, but not because of the nuvema town thing. It's literally just cause of the character backgrounds on bulbapedia being black for Hilbert & Nate, and white for Hilda & Rosa

I always thought Red’s Mt Silver team had all three starters because it was based off of his Yellow personage where you do receive all three of them through various NPC’s
In X and Y you get 5 gift pokemon: Your starter, a Kanto starter, that Lucario that thinks you're pretty cool, a lapras, and a fossil Edit: You can also get an Old Amber from using Rock smash for an Aerodactyl, making for a full team of 6 without catching
@@its_saber1525 These days you can only be given those five during the main game, and in the post game you can breed a couple of your Pokemon so you can trade for your final member you don't need to catch: a starter pokemon you didn't pick from Shauna
@Nawfel Nuhin I stand corrected, you can totally beat X and Y without catching anything, using event Pokemon, or breeding while still having a full team
Red's team for me will forever be the last battle in SS/HG Pikachu, Venosaur, Charizard, Blastoise, Lapras, and Snorlax all in the lv. 80's. It was so iconic for me. I remember training so much to take him down. I remember using a Gengar to try to counter his Snorlax, but that thing had freaking Shadowball and took me out. My favorite battle ever.

By your own story-based logic, I would’ve gone with one of the Hitmons for Red. With it more likely being Hitmonlee since he was seen using it in Origins. And for Victor, I think Eternatus would’ve worked better than Urshifu since you’re story-required to catch it.

@@doge31981 oh no Im saying that up until after he becomes champion he has Aerodactyl, because he canonically catches Mewtwo after he wins the Indigo League
I'm surprised that you don't notice the reasoning for Red having Arcanine and Machamp in Let's Go. Let's Go takes places before the other games when he's a boss battle, so he's simply yet to trade for the other two starters at this point. As for who he trades with, it's Blue. Blue has Charizard, and also Tauros (a Pokémon he's not usually shown with). So Blue presumably trades Green for her Blastoise, giving her his Tauros. Then Red trades his Machamp and Arcanine to Blue in exchange for the other two starters, giving both him and Blue the exact teams we later see them with. It's a really cool detail.
Anthony Jose Angeles that’s what I said he said it’s not cannon but they said it takes place before the other games but you can’t place it before any other games bc when talking about the timeline it doesn’t exist

In my playthroughs I always thought "canon teams" would consist of Gift Pokemon, Fossil Pokemon, forced encounters like Sudowoodo and Snorlax, and occasionally purchasable Pokemon like Magikarp or Game Corner Pokemon.
Actually, I think Red more heavily represents Yellow (weird) as you can get all the starters in that game. Also, Pikachu is far more of his ace than the starters, so it makes it a bit more likely.
Don't sleep on the manga you, P.S. the elite four in the manga literally tries to kill red, and the Pokemon championship is a tournament (the elite four is just titles of the most powerful trainers)
Actually, Leaf is Green from another timeline because the multiverse exist in Pokemon. I think we should call her "Green" and not "Leaf" anymore because of her last appearance on the game. Also, the manga is not canon so i'm not base on the Manga
@@gamerdude7800 Usually, you're right but we have some exception, like Dawn in BDSP has her anime team ( when you fight against her ). For me, the anime is in another timeline because May (rival) travels with Brendan but also Ash

@@gamerdude7800 huh. Thought I saw that in one of Mikey’s videos. Guess I was wrong. Edit: yup, I checked. Remembered wrong, green is a thief in the manga. Works with my theory though, since team rocket does steal.
If I were to change Red's team, I would replace Mewtwo with Aerodactyl so that his manga team is at least not ignored and so that it will be less crazy.
The only legendaries I would like to be canon for the protaganists are the Gen 5 ones since they are so essential to the protaganists themselves. And the Tao duo have a history of being comanded and aiding trainers many times in the past.
@@revolvingworld2676 the irony of this with the manga since although Black had reshiram in his back pocket i would bet money that even if Black was able to wake up reshiram before the pokemon league started he would never use it for such a personal purpose.
There's a big thing you ignored while making this video, you referenced a precedent set by Red having gift pokemon on his team but you ignored the fact that he also has Snorlax, a pokemon that the story requires you to battle. By that logic other pokemon you encounter as part of the story should also be on teams, like Sudowoodo in Johto for example. Especially since you used this logic to put legendaries on teams as well
As he mentioned for the 4 pokemon mentioned by Ethan/Lyra during their calls, they most likely own all those pokemon; so while he didn't put them on the active team they're just in the box or something.
It doesn't really makes sense to me because red has always been associated with Charizard more like when he chooses bulbasaur in the manga and have a Venusaur in let's go is the only times he were ever associated with Venusaur but with Charizard he literally was always with him in the main series, spin off games, and even on the animes multiple times.
@@arielgardiana6715 Well, in the main series he's depicted with Charizard *and* Venusaur *and* Blastoise *and* Pikachu, so that argument doesn't really work. He never appears in the anime - only Pokemon Origins, which shows him with Charizard but also is only one continuity, so it doesn't count as 'multiple times' either, it's just one instance. And in the Spin-Off games he's depicted with Venusaur, in the Let's Go games, and... none of them in Colosseum. Even in Smash Bros, he's shown with all three starters. There really isn't much pointing to Charizard as his definitive choice across all media outside of "Charizard is the most popular" and "orange/fire type is closest to the colour red". Hell, in my opinion there's more of an argument to be made that *Pikachu* from Pokemon Yellow is his 'canon' starter than with Charizard.

Somehow I imagine building Serena's team based on the Pokemons she has in the anime. While she didn't have six on her during the course of the storyline, the three she had were pretty type diverse and solid, and we can fill out the rest with Pokemons that might have some sort of connection to her. Therefore, this is what I believe Serena's team should be: Delphox (her starter fully evolved), Sylveon and Pangoro (as seen in the anime) and the other three are possibly: 1. Rhyperior (her mother trained her to be a Rhyhorn racer, despite not liking the sport, she would have access to Rhyhorns back home and it's possible that she has a Rhyperior on her battle team) 2. Talonflame (we can see her mother's fletchling waking her up in the beginning of X&Y so we can probably assume that there are a lot of them where she lived and possibly catching one for her team) 3. Klefki (because of her whole thing with contests) 4. and last, Politoed/Poliwrath (this one is a bit more creative but since she was startled by a Poliwag right before her and Ash met for the first time, she might thank the little creature for having her meet her future love interest, and possibly keeping one for her team) As you can tell, I was bored but that's just my opinion.
@Henry Ludwig this is also the same series that has the main protagonists of the diamond and pearl arc being a professional comedy duo trying to go pro. labeling the entirety of pokespe as just dark is a massive misnomer. by this same logic the anime can simply be labeled as stupid as it took 20 years for ash to actually win a regional league, an accomplishment that is borderline trivial for a trainer that traveled to 7 different regions battling hundreds of pokemon yet people inflate this accomplishment as if ash hadn't been failing league after league in the past. and when it comes to story telling it is just undeniable that the pokemon manga is king among all the pokemon mediums in this department since this manga has been making original stories of the scraps of story that are contained in the pokemon games for DECADES. heck gen 5 the gen so many game fans consider to have the peak quality of storytelling is just retelling the story of the pokemon manga's yellow arc. a story of two sides with differing views on protecting pokemon (one of which plans on separating pokmeon from humans to protect those pokemon from human abuse and manipulation) both fighting over the power of an all powerful dragon. ua-cam.com/video/PPeUP9PlBic/v-deo.html
@Henry Ludwig so even though it's more accurate to the game, because it's not "child friendly" it isn't a reliable source? Even though none of the game protagonists are main trainers in the anime.

Bulbasaur in Cerulean, Charmander on Route 24, Bulbasaur in Vermillion, Pikachu the starter, the Eevee in Celadon Mansion, the Lapras from the Silph Co. employee, and Snorlax blocking off routes.

Delphox (her starter fully evolved), Sylveon and Pangoro (as seen in the anime) and the other three are possibly:
1. Rhyperior (her mother trained her to be a Rhyhorn racer, despite not liking the sport, she would have access to Rhyhorns back home and it's possible that she has a Rhyperior on her battle team)
2. Talonflame (we can see her mother's fletchling waking her up in the beginning of X&Y so we can probably assume that there are a lot of them where she lived and possibly catching one for her team)
3. Klefki (because of her whole thing with contests)
4. and last, Politoed/Poliwrath (this one is a bit more creative but since she was startled by a Poliwag right before her and Ash met for the first time, she might thank the little creature for having her meet her future love interest, and possibly keeping one for her team)
As you can tell, I was bored but that's just my opinion.
Michael: so this one's a bit tricky
Me: so you'll use the manga!
Michael: let's refer to the anime!
ahh yes the anime where ash used a pikachu against brock, and still won
To be fair doe the anime has way more influence on the games and is way more well known than the manga. Still love the manga doe
@@iamjoker4281 still its a pain in the neck to see how undermined it is when people ever refer to it.
I bet when Michael is on his deathbed PokeMoses will come and say:

ASH: PIKACHU
Exactly
Yeeeeeah my boy charizard is canon, FLAME YEEEE
i disagree
Absolutely
Red=green starter...
Blue=red/orange starter...
My monkey brain screams Red-Charizard/Blue-Blastoise but I understand your reasoning
Since Hilbert seems to be the ''canon'' MC (seems that the male is the canon one in all regions except Sinnoh and Kalos) and from what little we see of him, he seems to have a more playful personality, and that's how fans usually depict him too, I can totally see him picking Oshawott just cause he's the ugliest of the 3
Also, in the GOTCHA music video Victor and Gloria have Cinderace so it checks out
Dude. Tepig is the ugliest
Same here lol
But Hilbert has a Tepig in the Manga
You call Samurott ugly when Emboar, a fat pig, is right there
@@aguywithalotofopinions412 Venusaur was always the starter that more fits red personality i think, cause like, Venusaur is a slow powerfull tank and in the games red is this silent and reclusive trainer who slowly defeats everyone, exacly like a slow unstopabble tank.
And Green (the Rival, wich u guys call Blue on america) its a more cocky trainer, running around telling everyone how better than them he is, wihc fits more Charizard i think, a faster, brighter and cokier starter that sure catch the atention of everyone, just like the Rival loves to do.
If Silver got Ho-oh than that means he surpassed Giovanni
Its probably cause of Pokemon Stadium 2. He had Ho-oh, Lugia AND Mewtwo
In the manga he got a tododile but in adventures they gave him ho oh because they added lyra instead of just kris
I'm surprised you gave Calem and Serena both Meowstic instead of Lucario.
Personally I think Absol should be swapped out rather than Meowstic, since Absol is Calem/Serena's mega & the whole reason you're given a Lucario is for the mega evolution tutorial.
I fully agree that one of them should be swapped in, however either really could work.
I'dswap Absol for Lucario, since I associate Mega Absol with the rival role more than the protagonist.
Michael: The Isle of Armor is Cannon, ok I'm desperate.
Me: *raise's left hand to ear...* You hear that... It's the Winds of the Tundra.
Michael: *facepalm*
Over two years later and I’m still waiting for the follow up video where he gives “canon” teams to the rivals

well he did have an Emboar
Well he need to learn with Hop about type matchups

Micheal: they are counted as one entity.
Me: *imagines a fusion of all three protagonists* oh god
Zapmolcono:
Silver: Uh professor? There are no starters left! What do I get??
Professor: You get... THE LEGENDARY OF THE REGION: HO-OH. Completely fair to Ethan, Kris and Lyra!
Lol
Actually silver stole his starter so it be more like this
Silver: Dang it, there aren't any pokemon left.
Sees pokeball on the professor's desk
Silver: Guess I'll take this.
Turns out to contain Ho-oh
Silver: Why in the distortion world would you leave this unguarded
Don't ruined it
This what happen he found a pokeball and challange Ethan/gold/anything and summon ho-oh against a chikorita
I think giving Red Mewtwo is a stretch since yeah he catches it but who says he actually uses it I like the last one being poliwrath since it's such a big part of reds backstory in the manga.

Huh, no Lucario on the Kalos protag team?? Weird, that feels like a lock
Yea it does
i think the reason that he didnt choose lucario is because the kalos protag already have 1 pokemon that can mega evolve and adding lucario in their would have a few problems even though you get lucario in pokemon x&y
@@antsteel18 But Mikey gave them mega absol so that's clearly not an issue
Since their team ended up so flexible, I can imagine one of them having Lucario instead of Absol.

Calum actually should’ve had Greninja, the reason being him, Serena, and Shawna are all color coordinated to the starters as well as having similar aspects. Plus there’s the fact that calum has a long sleeved version of ash’s shirt from the anime and Greninja is very much so linked to that outfit.

Fun fact: before crystal, gold was the only protagonist, since crystal wasn't an option
I've always felt that yellow version is the canon "main timeline" game for gen 1, since red has the three starters and an unevolved pikachu in the johto games.
David King dude i agree but blue in yellow has a weird team
On Elio/Selene’s team, Dusk Lycanroc would be replaced with Midday Lycanroc in the Sun and Moon version of events since Dusk Lycanroc is exclusive to the Ultra games. It’d be Midday as opposed to Midnight form, as they have another Sun exclusive in Ninetales, which you could replace with Sandslash if you wanted Lunala and Midnight Lycanroc for a Moon version team.
That was kind of a long comment. I hope it makes sense.
Tbh Elio over Powered bro gets Solgaleo and Nercrozma

Me: noted
If Mikey ever does another video like this like 3 years in the future I bet he is going to have a lot of fun trying to make Juliana and Florian's teams.
They don't appear anywhere except as your character, they aren't depicted with specific starters most often, from what little there is to go off, they don't seem like they'll appear in the anime, hell, they don't technically even look the same most of the time! Plus, I don't know how accurate this is, but I poked around and the only gift pokemon in S/V seems to be Galarian Meowth? And its an optional side thing in the game. So basically, the only set pokemon they ever get are the unknown starter and the legendary.
