I don’t think that they could have predicted that there would be a “Behind the Scenes” with Judy Norton, either. We are all keeping track of “The Waltons”. Happy Birthday, Judy!
I've been binge watching the Waltons lately and I never realized what a great show it is. I find watching it to be calming and therapeutic and an excellent way to cope with the anxieties and stresses of the modern world. The plots are relatively simple and easy to follow and the depictions of the tightly knit, supportive family units and the neighbors who are always ready to help often makes me wish that I could travel back in time and live on Walton's Mountain.
I really liked the question about the map of the area around the Walton's house within the storylines and how far off of the main road was from Walton's house how far they were from town, Ike's store, their neighbors, the church and other places within the Walton's mountain area Thanks Judy. 🇺🇲📻🇺🇲📺🇺🇲
Yeah, that was a good question, and Judy did not produce a sketch like I was hoping. LOL My thinking is these tv shows were more about creating the illusion than they were of actually working off a diagram.
The "Curt" situation left many fans stunned. We agonized with Mary Ellen over his death in the Pacific. Just as that pain was easing...lo and behold he returns. However a different actor and a completely changed personality. We never saw the former Dr. Curt again. And his treatment of Mary Ellen and John Curtis was a further slap in the face. Yes war changed those that came home...but for us fans this story line was perhaps a step too far. On that note...happy birthday Judy and thank you for sharing your precious memories with us.
I never understood the need to bring Curt back, esp with a different actor, couldn't stand him. Otherwise it was an excellent show. I never missed it if I could help it.😊
Oh, I'm so glad I'm not the only one who disliked the "Curt" Situation. I thought it was unnecessary. The Pearl Harbor episode was so emotional, so very well written, it gave the viewer all the feels and in the letter to John Curtis that Curt wrote, you really understood how very much Curt loved and respected all of the Waltons. Not just for being related to them by marriage but for their own special personalities and what they could give to others. It was a grieving process for Mary Ellen and the viewers that Curt had died. Bringing the character back was an unnecessary soap-opera thing to do. It was inauthentic to the characters and the show. Happy Birthday, Judy!! Hope your day is filled with wonderful things and thanks so much for sharing with us.
I understand. It was an idea that didn’t work as evidenced from all the responses from viewers. I felt it was awkward when I read it and when we were filming, but I had no say in it.
In Season 9, The Tempest - we found out Curt had not died at Pearl Harbor, he was injured and had amnesia and when he remembered he felt it was better for Mary Ellen if she continued to believe he was dead.
I was another one who didn't like that Curt came back from the dead. And worst was that it was a different actor than Tom Bower. The same when they brought John Boy's character back with Robert Wightman as John Boy instead of Richard Thomas. I felt those were two big mistakes the producers made.
I am so pleased you had nine seasons; all of them endured and are so heartwarmingly memorable. The only bitter pill that was tough to swallow was when John Boy said his last “good night.” and then later came back portrayed by a new cast member (God love him, and i so appreciate his efforts.) Yet it was always challenging trying to accept the reconstruction of John Boy's character. I can only imagine how tough it might have been for Earl Hamner's need for the continuation of his story, and all of you (the cast) had matured so marvelously in character portrayals. Judy, please consider speaking again about this matter and in more detail of fact. And if possible, gather your cast siblings to have a heart-to-heart talk about it and say goodnight to each other and John Boy and Uncle Earl.
The only way that I have been able to comment lately is to piggyback off of others comments! I don't know why that is!! Anyways, I wanted to add my Happy Birthday along with the others!
I've often wondered if anything was ever said about John Boy graduating from Boatwright University? There were some references to him being in school when he ran the Blue Ridge Chronicle, but when the focus turned to him getting his novel completed, I don't recall it ever being mentioned. I can only assume that he must have graduated but it was never mentioned in the show.
Interesting how they picked NYC for his adventures rather than Washington, DC which was nearer. I guess all the publishing giants were in NYC. Jo from Little Women also went to NYC @@judynorton2598
Especially since the high school graduation was such a huge event for the family. You'd think the first child to graduate from college would be significant.
Happy Birthday Judy. I love you so much as a sweet fan. Your the sweetest lady ever and you deserve everything that you get today. I'm sure your family will give you some nice sweet gifts and presents just for you today beautiful. Enjoy your day.
I really liked the question about where everything was located from the Walton house and how long it took to get there by walking there. I often think about this when watching! I just started watching again from Season 1 to Episode 1. The first time I watched on A.P. it started with season 2. I only got to episode 4 so far, I was hoping to binge a whole season this weekend, but things happened. Again, Happy Birthday, Judy!!! 💐

Hi Judy! Thanks for sharing this wonderful video with us. I’m sorry I’m so late to this video! Such great questions with all interesting answers, I wonder how far it was to the church and how far the church is from godsey’s store. And also how far the school house was from the Walton house and how far the school house was from godsey’s store and the church. And I remember that rockfish is about 6 miles from the Walton house and Charlottesville was about 28 miles away. Happy belated birthday Judy! I wish I was able to be here yesterday to wish you happy birthday. Yesterday was also my grandpa’s birthday as he would’ve been 99. You have the same birthday as him. I hope you had an amazing birthday! ❤ sending lots of love :) Love, Jamie ~ huge Waltons fan ✨
That deep plum button up shirt is so cool. Thank you for your top notch channel. Btw, would you share your favorite 70's popular songs from your teen years that you and the cast may have sang for fun during lull times?
Thank you. I don’t recall us singing much around the set. In real life I loved artists like - Carole King, Elton John, John Denver, Blood Sweat and Tears, Jim Croce, Don McLean, Loggins & Messina, Simon & Garfunkel,
Regarding the distance of the school, church and Goodsey’s store. It would not have been uncommon in that era I a rural setting for them to be 1 or 2 miles away and be in walking distance. It would be cool to have a fictional map of the area, wouldn't it? I got a chuckle out of the question of how far or close certain places were from the Walton home as I had always wondered that myself. Just last night I was watching "The Diploma" S8,E3 where Ike tells someone the Walton's are just about 1/2 mile up the road. As always, thank you for sharing your memories with us! Enjoy your special day, I wish you many blessings as you celebrate today and in the future. 💖
Happy Monday, Judy!! There are so many great questions today. I was not aware of the reason why the music had changed in later episodes. Thank you for sharing your answers on these questions. And Happy Birthday! 🥰
Alexander Courage also did the music for the Star Trek Original Series. I believe he also did work with John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith & Lionel Newman. Talking about syndication, if a show was still airing on a network, the syndicated reruns would usually use an alternate name if I am correct. For instance, Happy Days was syndicatedly called "Happy Days Again", Real People was syndicatedly called "More Real People". The Danny Thomas Show was syndicatedly called "Make Room For Daddy". I don't recall The Waltons using an different title on the syndicated rerun edits of The Waltons while the newer version was still aired on CBS
I never heard that about syndication. Not sure if it had anything to do with whether it started syndication while new episodes were still being made and aired. Our show did not go into syndication until the show’s run was completely done.
That was so interesting. I always had it in my head that Ike's was half a mile away so easily walkable and the school and church were the same but just in different directions. Thank you Judy for explaining and answering questions. Best wishes to you from your waltonian superfan in a milder England😉
Wow Happy birthday Judy, you do not look your age. By the way we are a few months apart in age! I actually visited the Walton’s home in Virginia. There is a store so close to the house. Looks old but not sure if it was the original. Also an old church is right around the corner too. I think the museum has s the old school building. Love you and this channel
Hello Judy, I subscribed yesterday and was elated you welcomed me! Thank you! Made my day. The Walton’s has always been one of my favorites. I watch it every day. Allow me to ask my first question. In the later “special “ episodes made there is 1 were Mary Ellen 2nd husband is in Vietnam and Ben & Cindy are coping with Virginia’s death. I wonder why there was no mention of John Curtis or Ben & Cindy’s 2nd child, Charlie? Did anyone in the cast ask about this when the project began.
So glad you are enjoying these already! In the specials, there was no real explanation about the children. We did ask. Eric (Ben) in particular because of Charlie. He was told to “not make trouble” and “no one would notice” - we KNEW everyone would notice!! Honestly I think they forgot about the prior children situation.
Happy Birthday Judy and Thank you once again for another great show !!! Do you ever go back to the Warner Brothers studio jungle set ? Also have you ever thought about doing an episode on location to show where the exterior buildings were ?
Thank you! Sadly, I think the jungle is mostly gone. The back lot was pretty much torn down for offices and parking lots. I haven’t been on the Warners lot for ages.
Judy thank you for all of these wonder memories of the The Waltons. Its wonderful recapping the shows and memories. I loved Ike Godsey .But Cora Beth didn't come on until the 3rd season as a cousin to The Waltons. She was never acknowledged as cousin Cora after that by any of the Waltons after she and Ike were married. Why was that?
Judy looking absolutely gorgeous this morning on her Birthday. Happy Birthday!!

Thank you. Good episode so please keep it up. Have a very happy birthday. God bless
Thank you so much.

Thank you!!
Happy Birthday Judy. I also loved to watch the Walton's. I wish they had more shows like that now.
Thank you!
Happy birthday Judy
Thank you!!
Good question. Not sure why we didn’t refer to the family connection.
Happy Birthday wishes dear Judy! 🎂🌹🎉
Thank you so much!
