In the scene where Miss Hunter is questioning Elizabeth about not having her homework, and Elizabeth unknowingly reveals the secret. When Miss Hunter says she is excused just this once Elizabeth smiles, and to me it looks like she is trying to/did say thank you, (or something like that) but the words didn't actually come out. Could this have been an audio issue, or am I seeing things?

The show relates to my own family, we were a family of eight, my grandparents lived down the block from us. World war 11 ended 2 years before I was born, and the devastating of the distraction from the war was around us. We were not rich, but still we grew up in a very happy loving environment. I recently saw a post on facebook regarding Oliva being pregnant. It was brought up that “pregnant “ would have never been said… ( this was news to me..) people would have used “expecting”. It’s a full on conversation over there! The Walton’s always were so spot on with the times.. my question is, did the writers try and stay true to the times? Did they change things to be more relatable in the 70’s?

    • @judynorton2598
      @judynorton2598 9 годин тому

      I’m not sure how those decisions were made. I know Corabeth spoke up about how it should be addressed. “in the family way” - “enceinte” - “expecting” - all terms in earlier times. Also the idea that women shouldn’t be seen in public once they were visibly pregnant. I believe Corabeth said something like that to Mary Ellen when she was pregnant. Needless to say Mary Ellen didn’t think much of that archaic idea :)

    It always feels good when you don't owe anyone any money in the world so I kind of understand how John felt it's the greatest feeling in the world when you owe no money to anyone

    Question for ask Judy segment. Knowing what you know. Would you discourage your children from being actors? Many child actors have a terrible time adjusting to adulthood.

      I think it really depends on the child. For some it is great as it was for me and I believe most of - if not all of the “children” on our show feel that way. For other children their self confidence and sense of self may not be up to dealing with the harder parts of the industry. I don’t think a child should ever be pushed into it - that it needs to be something they want to do.

    Your points on fans exceeding boundaries are well taken, Judy. You have really revived a lot of honest love from lifetime fans of The Waltons. It should not mean having to tolerate anyone stepping out of line personally. We all want happy and safe lives. It is understood that having a higher standing in public because of your presence as an actor may bring some attention that is unwanted, or even just too much from someone who doesn't realize they are overly stepping. One can be dealt with swiftly before it becomes too much. You have been a very good sport about this, and many hope you wouldn't be dissuaded from continuing your current participation. I have, once or twice, made a comment referring to a certain nurse vision I have of Mary Ellen. So far I haven't heard anything too terrible back from it. So lets not be too stingy on any opportunity to see the nurse outfit ! 😊 😇

      Fortunately the majority of our fans are genuinely nice people so that really helps. It’s been nice having met many multiple times at various Walton events. So that’s been nice to see familiar faces and get to know folks. This channel has also given me that opportunity.

      @@judynorton2598 I was thinking about the last meet in Texas. But then the thought of my other half glaring at me while I tried to introduce myself to you and then the look on your face when you realized who it was standing in front of you… I’ve had a keen interest in you since the show came out. Better I keep it a bit in the shadows and in my imagination 😇
