This looks awesome! Will definitely try it out. Thanks!!!
We hope you enjoy!
This looks great. Wouldn't it have been great if the team at Redshift could have created this (it has been a top request for years).
Octane is the same, they released one years ago and it was trash. Never updated since. Blender gets all the good stuff.
@@Oldyellowbrick I haven't seen enough of Blender's toon shader to know but Arnold has a fantastic toon shader.
You don't like the toon in Octane? What do you feel like is missing/an issue with it vs YMA Toon Shader?@@Oldyellowbrick
Btw. Redshift updated their Dev page end of 2023. The Toon shader is now in active development.
This is sooooo cooool!
its finally here!, I can finally do some comic book style work
definitely a buy
Tempted to buy this, but I will wait for the Houdini version if it's possibly still in the works. Looks great though!
Nothing can be like grease pencil in blender. I hope they add a grease pencil soon in c4d
Wowww!! Yesss
Please create one for Houdini
🧐
Does it work with Houdini?
Currently it is available exclusively for C4D. However be on the lookout, we are cooking in kitchen 👩🍳
Please please please make a redshift/houdini version
+1
BTW you get a gold star just for your name@@thehomedepothouseplant9986 We can think about it but not sure if we have the knowhow to create a proper HDA that would be at the same level as this. But you know the saying, never say never...
THIS IS AMAZING!!!!
btw if there are future updates and substantial improvements to the shader, will it be pushed as an update or as a separate shader?
I think since we don't have access to C4D/RS at that level - I think it would need to be done as a separate shader (so a new node to replace vs an update you install). It's kind of why we tried to jam pack in as much as possible!
@@YouAndMeAcademy Ohk btw I was asking in terms of purchase, but i worded it something else 😅 sorry my bad
what I meant to ask is well the updates be part of the same purchase or well we purchase the updates separately?
Any minor updates to tweak settings we would just push it for free.
If it was an entirely new update like a v2 amount maybe it is an added cost but not a full amount for users who have already purchased.
Since this isn't a subscription to access or anything - you own this / can use forever as is.@@hudibaba
@@YouAndMeAcademy thanx for the clarification. really appreciate it
What about 3ds max, can it be ported there? I would love to buy your product, but I use 3ds max((
Unfortunately we don't use 3ds max so can't create something to THIS degree but I think pretty soon we maaayyybeee *cough cough* subscribe and follow *cough cough* will have something that you could follow along pretty soon.
@@YouAndMeAcademy already subscribed months ago, and won't forgot to say, you guys, doing abso-lutely freaking AWESOME work on this channel!!! Thank you soo much🥰 And good health to you😁
Love it! Is there a way to fix the thumbnail issue tho? It's kinda hard to navigate around bunch of black material blocks
Happy to hear you are enjoying it! Unfortunately, at the time there is no fix for that. Perhaps in the future. 💪
Just curious, now that Redshift has official toon shading support, will this library be converted to the new system? Great material presets.
Thank you! Keep your 👀 open 😉😉😉
Nice plugin! Does it come with shaders built on material nodes?
Thank you! It comes with 30 built in presets that work with the Asset Browser 💪 It uses the xpresso nodes vs new Mat Nodes (because of material node limitations). The reason being you can't link objects from the viewer in material nodes. This way we set up you can attach a light, rotate it like an infinite light or move it like a point light and the shading updates.
are you planning on releasing a more in-depth walkthrough of the shader settings?
Already done! Head on over to www.youme.academy/redshift-toon-shader for the rundown of each section. When you purchase the package there are explainer videos going through every single setting one by one as well!
why are the explainer videos paywalled
Just released a new video!@@LuckyDeck
How do you create transitions in this scene?
Please let me know if you like!
Do you mean the hoverboard transition? Rendered both scenes normally and then a 3rd matte scene. I applied 100% black to all objects + 100% white to the rectangle that moves in the scene. Used that as a matte in comp. Can see more of the scenes here ua-cam.com/video/ZZtD-2wYw3E/v-deo.htmlsi=q2RuZzcCN6ZKGAdU
Wow ❤
Amazing work!!! Does it support mixed lighting with multiple lights?
Each shader can accept 1 light, but you can add multiple shaders to 1 object and then have multiple lights 💪
@@YouAndMeAcademy Thank you, I see!
@@YouAndMeAcademy First of all, thank you for bringing us such great content. It is no exaggeration to say that this is definitely the most unparalleled redshift cartoon shader I have ever seen! It is strongly recommended that redshift official can see it!
Secondly, I have some suggestions (or questions):
1. The parameters in the material panel seem to be unable to be displayed in the node editor. For example, I want to add noise to a custom halftone, but I find that I can't.
2. There seems to be no highlight option in the material. In fact, in many situations of cartoon rendering (for example, I want to show the metallic texture of armor), highlight is indispensable.
3. I hope tonemap’s ramp interpolation can support other modes. For now, it cannot be set to other modes except step. I tried switching to smooth mode, but the rendering did not seem to change. Sometimes I want smoothness ramp. (like klaus: ua-cam.com/video/2XZbYNCjmqo/v-deo.html), supporting interpolation in other modes will be very helpful.
Thanks for adopting!
@parion4692 thanks for the feedback 🙂
Does it respond to moving lights in the scene?
It does 😊
@YouAndMeAcademy not just matcap styles? It's not based on fresnel? :) it works like sketch and toon actually? Haha sorry for the skeptical questions Im
Very interested
No problem! Please check out the site, we walk through all the settings. Also every single example you see is built off of the same base node. Think of it as a standard material for non-pbr. It can be piped into a material as diffuse as well if you want to mix and match things.
It is as close as possible to feature comparable to Arnold Toon Shading. There are some limitations but think you will be pleasantly surprised when you link a light, rotate and everything just works. Or update your own custom halftone pattern to create a new style.@@effectatron
It won't be sketch and toon no - A more accurate description would be more based on Arnold Toon Shading but in one UI
@YouAndMeAcademy thanks I'll check it out! Honestly just Wanted to make sure it wasn't the same as mine and EJs redshift toon shader we have. Seems pretty sweet tho I'll definitely check it out!
does the shader apply to Houdini+RS ?
It currently only works with Cinema4d.
this is amazing, how differnt is this to the new toon shader in RS currently?
"Thanks for the question! We created this before RS Toon was even announced so it relies mainly on a network of OSL shaders and mini setups we created with a custom UI interface only in Xpresso. You link a light into the shader (hence xrpesso nodes only) and it uses the direction for lighting.
The three biggest differences are
1. the Halftone Pattern section we created. RS Toon has a node called "Tonemap Pattern" which does the same thing. However ours allows for any custom input, RS Toon (hopefully will eventually). Meaning you can bring in any image you want to create a pattern, your own sketchy lines, markers, squiggly shading, watercolor textures, paint, you name it - you can use it with YMA Toon.
2. YMA Toon comes with 30 presets to drag and drop ready to modify and use out of the box
3. Also we would say the RS Toon outline is stronger since it was coded from the ground up. So honestly mix and matching the two isn't such a bad idea!"
Awesome, I think I would like to use this still over ra too. Shader for now, but is it available for Houdini?
@@YouAndMeAcademy one more question if I may, will this or does this work over in Houdini?
@angelous4x currently it only works with Cinema 4D. 💻
@@YouAndMeAcademy if there is ever a houdini version "shut up and take my money"
Make a tutorial on how to create at least 1 similar anime visualization
you asked we delivered ua-cam.com/video/wDQZrefVDvM/v-deo.htmlsi=CPSMCr9sjZ-99nZW
@@YouAndMeAcademy ur the best)
Will it be available for blender too?
Currently only C4D perhaps a Blender release could be in the future!
@@YouAndMeAcademy I hope so too. It would really help the many independent artists who use blender. ❤️
Hello, I'm a Maya user, I know that your toon shader is not available for Maya, I managed to recreate an outline with redshift, but I can't recreate the bi or tri tonal shader, I tried with a ramp, but no I had the desired results.......can you give me some advice??? thank you very much and congratulations!!!!
Hey Claudioneriotti, yes absolutely can do that! I think easier to reach out to us and we can chat back and forth. Head over to www.youme.academy/ and if you go to the very bottom of the page can contact us there and can help you out!
Hey mate, was wondering if you had any luck. I'm also a Maya redshift user
@@borisfm3562 Hi BorisFM, at the moment I'm stuck with the contour line, I'm trying to create a bi or tri tonal shader
@@claudioneirotti6886 I'll try to come up with something similar as well, will share results if I get anywhere with it.

@@misanthrope_01 straight to a sketch world!
also how gpu intensive is this?
Everything you see here was rendered 2k with 2x1080Ti's. Time per frame avg 15-40 sec. Most of the optimization comes from since this is toon you don't need GI on. But you CAN mix this shader with a real world setup with standard materials and have GI on, reflection, refraction, etc. all work as well.
houdini version?
Unfortunately, no. 😒
Is there a Maya version?
Not yet!
