  • Come experience a septum piercing with our friend, Maureen! Done by our favorite piecer James of American Skin Art in Buffalo, NY.
    Money Shot:0:46
James prepares the area by cleaning the nose, in and out. Then a line is placed horizontally across the underside of the tip of the nose as a guide to make sure the piercing will be straight and level. He then uses clamps with open loop style ends to hold the nose in place, this also helps guide the needle. A deep breath in and the needle is pushed through, quick and easy. James then follows the needle out of the piercing with the desired jewelry. after a quick clean up Maureen can go inspect her new piercing. Great work James!
The healing time on this piercing is about 4-8 weeks during which soreness is normal. This piercing is usually done at 14 or 12 gauge but can be as small as 16 gauge or as large as 10 gauge. Retainers, horseshoes, and BCRs a.k.a. captive rings are the standard initial jewelry.

When I got my septum done, it was painless. I didn't feel it at all and everyone I see on UA-cam getting it done says it's so painful. It's just how I felt, painless.

You can get it flipped up after it's pierced by the piercer, don't constantly flip it up and down throughout the healing process as it just makes the healing process even longer. Your nose will be very sore after it's pierced so don't try flip it yourself. You should decide before the piercing if you want it to be flipped up for the healing process or to keep it flipped down.
