CAT, 22, from Ohio describes herself as 'emo scene', which is made up from “dark makeup, poofy hair and fishnet clothing”. It takes her around four hours to get ready every day and she wears “all the colours in the rainbow” but hates the colour brown because “it looks like mud”. She makes her own accessories and uses this subculture to express her creativity. Cat is now undergoing an 'Instagram glam' makeover - but will she like it? How will her fiancé and friends react to the new her?

I watch her UA-cam channel and she’s definitely the farthest thing from depressed! She acts like a therapist and a mother figure towards all her viewers and is super nice, I haven’t been doing the best mentally lately and she’s definitely doing a really big part in helping me through it.

I’ve never really gotten why everyone assumes Emo/Goth people are depressed. like, dressing that way says the opposite really, you have to have a lot of confidence and want to express yourself.
exactly! And typically when people are depressed they can't put as much effort into their everyday outfits as how much people part of these subcultures put in. well ik that from personal experience so idk but just assuming they're all depressed is counterintuitive
just wanna clarify, goth has nothing to do with emo nor scene. emo is a term for "emotional" and during the early internet days (myspace, tumblr, Facebook) emo was used to express how dark you feel, many blogs were abt self harm and they'd often post "depressing" lyrics from popular hard rock bands during those days. its become a stereotype now but thats quite actually why they dressed like that

Fun fact, I watch her youtube channel and i have been watching it before seeing this and she has the wig and everything with her still. She even makes videos using it and applying a more natural tone of make up to imply another character in skits but she's a amazing person who supports everybody! We hired an Emo scene lady a few months ago to be our UI/UX developer. Best decision ever. Some questioned her appearance. All I cared was her being able to do the job and being able to think outside the box. I gave her a chance that no others would give and she became successful in the role. Don’t judge a book by its cover.

I was supposed to graduate in 2012 lol yeah I had no idea people were still dressing like this either. My friend group and I were all completely different, I was the emo/scene stoner kid, my bff was the band geek who cared about grades, a couple of theater kids and a jock for good measure. We were like the rejects from all the cliques 🤣🤣

I would never put down her Emo style, it’s fun… and I definitely went through phases! But, she’s a beautiful girl and now knows changing her look works!!! She looked gorgeous! I liked that she embraced the brown dress, brown actually looks great on her!

I personally dislike the idea of trying to get people to dress like everyone else for the sake of "fitting in", but for her case she seems to embrace who she is no matter what her style of choice is. Good for her!!
I agree with what you're saying but I think there's something to knowing you can look beautiful or something different can suit you. I think it's the equivalent when my sister took me out to go get some dresses. I hadn't felt that they suited me. There were also certain styles or colors I never thought were for me. When I tried something different than my norm it was nice to see that difference though I still liked my regular style.

She is so cute either way!! She has stunning features and personality and there is no way she could ever look boring even if she did make herself more “normal” from time to time. She has some of the most amazingly bright, beautiful eyes I’ve ever seen and they really pop without some of the heavy makeup, in my opinion.

changing the way you present yourself definitely changes how you percieve yourself. i changed my name because I just generally didn't like it, not for trauma reasons, but even so I have definitely found that I subconsciously don't consider myself to be the same person as when I went by my old name. it kind of messes with you. like am i running away from my true self? I know I'm not, but it's a weird feeling
I’m emo, I’m not scene but I am more on the emo/punk side! And I definitely agree. We don’t dress this was because we are depressed, we dress this was because this is how we show creativity! I love being emo/punk. I do get some rude comments but I love myself the way I am.

I definitely don’t view anyone as depressed based on how they dress or event how they act. For me I think people should tell others if they are or not(when ready). Like I’ve struggled on and off with depression and I don’t dress differently when I’m depressed

So, I was already a fan of Cat's content, and seeing her partially heal by this transformation is awesome. Although I've been annoyed by the make up artist saying "I've had an emo phase myself, but we'll try to give her a more grown-up look" 3:34 . I get why she said it, I guess she did not said it to insult anyone but the thing bothering me is that : emo aesthetic cannot be for grown-ups ? Since when ? Like all other aesthetics it's only a preference.

I’m so glad she didn’t hate it. There are other shows where they just completely disregard how the person being made-over feels. This made her feel beautiful and she looks wonderful both ways!

She's beautiful before and after. It took me a very long time to look in the mirror without makeup and actually see the beauty in my own skin. I used to never let anyone see me without black eyemakeup and I used it as a mask as well. I didn't like looking in the mirror without makeup on. I realized I hated me because that's all I ever knew. When you go through that type of trauma, it is a long journey to finding peace within yourself and some of us never make it to that point. Confronting yourself can be extremely difficult. You'll find that a lot of the clichés you hate though, actually make a lot of sense lol.

So happy to see that you actually liked your modern glam look. As a punk rock alt myself, my sense of fashion also came to life after a not so happy chapter in my life finally came to an end. I guess I also dress the way I do as a means of reclaiming a piece of myself that I feel was once taken from me as well as to show to the beauty that can come out of darkness. I wish you nothing but the best moving forward on your journey to become the best version of yourself you can be.

Being emo isn't a phase, it's a lifestyle. It literally means that you're an emotional person, empathetic and connected with yours and Others emotions . The aesthetic is only the surface layer of it all. I'm emo and I'm proud of who I am and I don't care what other people think of me. She is adorable and beautiful in either style and she doesn't have to tie her past with any Certain look, she can be who she is and look how she wants while still moving forward :) Good episode!

You absolutely slay both looks and I am HERE for it. Honest to gods, I love the scene and most overall dark & somewhat edgy looking aesthetics. I am still girly and like feeling all dolled up in cutesy dresses & makeup, but still love a black polished leathery vibe.
