We use biodegradable sponges and use them until they're discolored, and then chuck them in the compost. We started only buying cleaning tools that are biodegradable. Throwing away foam sponges every few weeks, a plastic toilet brush, a plastic toothbrush - all of these things add up and will literally never go away.
@@lionfellinlovewlamb Zefiro! The sponges also have a little loop on the top so we're able to hang them off of the faucet to dry. Question about cleaning toilet brushes in a bucket. I’d like to but it grosses me out thinking about the bucket ever being used for anything other than toilet brushes. Do all of you who do the bucket method have a separate bucket designated for only cleaning toilet brushes??
I clean our toilet twice a week I believe the brush stays clean enough like that because of the toilet bowl cleaner and I rinse it while flushing the cleaner out then while i leave it to dry between the seat and toilet bowl i spray it with dissenfectant and wipe down the handle of the brush. Everytime the toilet brush bowl looks dirty i spray it with an all purpose cleaner then wipe with a paper towel, getting every part bottum and inside included. Then dissenfect that as well. But since I wouldn't touch my brush part I think this is a great idea I'll have to try it thank you!
Oh gosh yes, I wash and maintain anything that’s washable. Even the shopvac and toilet brush. Nothing goes to landfill if I can help it. You could do an episode on personal care product cleaning, like make up btushes and sponges, hair brushes, combs, curling irons and hair dryers etc...
I clean my toilet brush. I have four bathrooms so I have my hands full. I have taken vases that I have gotten with flower arrangements and I put a mixture of Pine-Sol and hot water and have the toilet brush in that so that it kills bacteria when it is in it's spot waiting to be used. Each time I clean the bathroom which is about weekly I change the water and Pine-Sol. I clean the toilet brush as well
I chose to replace my toilet brushes with silicone brushes that I got off Amazon. Silicon won't stain like the nylon brushes so from now on I should just be able to clean them instead of replacing them.
I have never used a sponge for dishes. I use a dishcloth, I swap out for a clean one every day, I let it dry over night and then put it in a container under my sink, at the end of the week I boil all of my dishcloths for 20 minutes. Once they've cooled off I pour out the water and add the dishcloths to my laundry. My dishcloths almost never sour and always come out smelling fresh. If I ever do have a sour dishcloth I just add some baking soda to the boiling water, problem solved.
Hi! Can I use my electric scrubber brushes for all spaces or should I divide them into bathroom or kitchen brushes to prevent contamination? (Considering I would disinfect them after each use with bleach). Thank you so much! Love the content and help!
I clean my toilet brush every time I clean the toilet. I put bleach in the pan and let it sit until the floor is dry, approximately 15mins. Then I use zoflora (concentrate disinfectant) in the holder to keep it as clean as possible.
exactly! My brusg holder is one of those cylinder types that hold liquid so I throw in vinegar. Bleach exposed to air or mixed with water loses its potency in a few days.
For toilet cleaning we no longer use brushes at all. There are these pods that you can add to the toilet (either inside the bowl with a reusable hook or inside the place where water gets collected where it just floats in water) that disinfects and clean the toilet every time you flush (an effortless clean as you go method). And if you have a bidet, those usually cut down on toilet paper use (although we partially changed over to reusable washable cloths anyway for when the bidet is taking too long to dry you off) and also have a self-cleaning option for both the bidet itself and if you close the lid for the inside of the toilet. With those 2 methods, we stopped having to clean our toilet altogether. The only thing it needs is an occasional sanitary wipe down on the outside to collect any dust and germs it may have collected. And since most of it is automatic (the chemical with the flush, and the rinse with bidet) it just takes off a chore from an already long list of chores. Plus I think it is most people's least favorite thing to do as far as chores go.
You are doing an amazing job. Can you please tell us more about the dishwasher? I am interested to know how we can clean the cooking pots in the dishwasher? Especially big pots in which we cook food for family. Can you make detailed videos about this?

Can they ever be 100% disinfected? I am at the point where I am going to buy an anti microbial silicone body scrubber so I don’t have to worry about bacteria on my body. Please help. Question for the general public... Sponges or Dish Brushes? We’ve always used dish brushes in our house. That was my moms choice and I prefer it bc it keeps my hands away from the dirty dishes and mucky water. I know some people use sponges for counters or messes. In that case we would just use a “dish” cloth (which never gets used for dishes) and lay it over the edge of the sink to dry.
They have a beechwood and Tampico plant fiber brush and stand on EarthHero! It uses sustainably harvested wood and is handmade by a family owned buissness. That is what I will be upgrading to once my toilet brush has served its time :)
I bought a silicone toilet brush just so I could clean it easier and keep it longer. It’s more expensive so there’s no way I’ll just throw it in the garbage instead of cleaning it
Hot soapy water with ammonia added will clean off years of greasy cooking. For the tops of the cupboards use some newspapers to line so you won't have to clean again. When cooking greasy foods, be sure the exhaust hood fan is on and always have splatter screens covering pans while frying. If you can, avoid greasy cooking methods.
I've severely cut back on plastic in the bathroom, so I try to hang onto my toilet bowl brush for as long as possible before I replace it. I wipe the holder every week so there never is any build-up, and the brush I clean and disinfect maybe once a month.
I use a thick empty detergent/Dawn bulk dish soap container, cut the 1/4 part infront of the handle to make the mouth of the container big enough to fit the toilet brush. See pictures for reference www.diyncrafts.com/25238/repurpose/25-fun-creative-ways-upcycle-empty-laundry-detergent-bottles Put ur favorite disinfectant solution and soak ur toilet brush for an hour, then rinse and leave in 🌞 to disinfect and dry for 1-2 hrs. Then store it in the bathroom until next time I need it.
I don't understand why nobody talks about cleaning sponges/sanitizing s with bleach. After i use the sponge, I rinse it with soap and hot water and then soak it with bleach solution. It comes out clean and smells like new.
I enjoy, learn and reinforce some of the cleaning ideas my mother gave me. However, I think I’m going to stopwatch wait for it. Because every time I watch I get a new idea to try which means do other stuff besides just that. Oh well the house is clearer. Thank you.
Please, do not use disposable gloves unless you really really need to. There is enough plastic waste already. I have a set of rubber gloves I only use for that purpose that you are using the dispossable ones. Rubber gloves are easy to clean afterwards, so they work as perfect and much less waste. ❤️

I know some people use sponges for counters or messes. In that case we would just use a “dish” cloth (which never gets used for dishes) and lay it over the edge of the sink to dry.
Both dish brush and scrubby sponge…covers most messes!
@@maryrenaud6732 But which do you use for dishes? Still both?
I'd prefer to clean. We have enough plastic in the landfills. I hope they come out with a bamboo toilet bowl brush.🥰
They have a beechwood and Tampico plant fiber brush and stand on EarthHero! It uses sustainably harvested wood and is handmade by a family owned buissness. That is what I will be upgrading to once my toilet brush has served its time :)
I have a bamboo toilet brush with coconut bristles!!
Please can you do videos on organization and organization tips.
thanks for sharing!
I bought a silicone toilet brush just so I could clean it easier and keep it longer. It’s more expensive so there’s no way I’ll just throw it in the garbage instead of cleaning it
Please help! How can I clean greasy kitchen cabinets and maintain them clean?
Hot soapy water with ammonia added will clean off years of greasy cooking. For the tops of the cupboards use some newspapers to line so you won't have to clean again. When cooking greasy foods, be sure the exhaust hood fan is on and always have splatter screens covering pans while frying. If you can, avoid greasy cooking methods.
So you don’t need to wash the inside of rubber gloves?
I've severely cut back on plastic in the bathroom, so I try to hang onto my toilet bowl brush for as long as possible before I replace it. I wipe the holder every week so there never is any build-up, and the brush I clean and disinfect maybe once a month.
Melissa I'd love to know which buckets you recommend 😊
The Sprayco bottles that you recommend on Amazon have been out of stock. Do you have any other recommendations?
Do you have a video on cleaning products that are safe for septic tanks
I use a thick empty detergent/Dawn bulk dish soap container, cut the 1/4 part infront of the handle to make the mouth of the container big enough to fit the toilet brush. See pictures for reference www.diyncrafts.com/25238/repurpose/25-fun-creative-ways-upcycle-empty-laundry-detergent-bottles Put ur favorite disinfectant solution and soak ur toilet brush for an hour, then rinse and leave in 🌞 to disinfect and dry for 1-2 hrs. Then store it in the bathroom until next time I need it.
I need to get oxy bleach... I'll clean everything😉 I have a lovely toilet brush so I wanna keep it!
👍
replace always
I don't understand why nobody talks about cleaning sponges/sanitizing s with bleach. After i use the sponge, I rinse it with soap and hot water and then soak it with bleach solution. It comes out clean and smells like new.
What is the difference between oxygen bleach and regular bleach? is there even one?
Do you wash the Maker’s Clean body towels separately from the cleaning cloths?
This is so helpful! Gonna do a deep cleaning tomorrow!🤣
I enjoy, learn and reinforce some of the cleaning ideas my mother gave me. However, I think I’m going to stopwatch wait for it. Because every time I watch I get a new idea to try which means do other stuff besides just that. Oh well the house is clearer. Thank you.
Ahhhh but have you ever cleaned the inside of your toilet tank? I had iron build up so bad, I had to after we got the water treatment installed.
Please, do not use disposable gloves unless you really really need to. There is enough plastic waste already.
I have a set of rubber gloves I only use for that purpose that you are using the dispossable ones.
Rubber gloves are easy to clean afterwards, so they work as perfect and much less waste. ❤️
