I'm a few hours north of New York and the humidity really sucks. For anyone who uses the other units, 40°C is about 95°F. We had some hot days this summer.
I think I know a way to survive this.
You could build a hut from something like stone or dirt, something non flammable, and make sure that every empty space in the hut is filled with something, spare dirt, torches, signs. The lava should just pass you, and you can live in caves.
