I’m so enjoying these last few videos . Like hanging out , learning new stuff with that cool mate I wish I had in real life . If your not back before you and the family have a great Christmas 🎄🤘
Hey love your vids. I have chased the Metallica tones for years. I own a Mesa Mark IIC++ and a Mark III Red Stripe. In their effects loop I run two Aphex EQs to follow the Flemming Rasmussen notes. The key to the Master, Justice and Black tones is EQ. It’s the EQ more than the actual Mark series amp. I love my Mark IIC++, it’s absolutely beautifully amazing amp but the Tallica tone is EQ. Run the your Mark 25 with medium gain setting, with the graphic EQ on the amp in a slight V. The 80 slider slightly above center line. The 240 on the center line. The 750 scooped down two lines. The 2200 just below center line and the 6600 just above center line. Then with an EQ in the effects loop (a 10 band MXR will get you closest through frequencies on the aphex) boost 120hz by 4 dB. Cut 1.2k by 6 dB and boost 4.6k by 6dB with EQ shelf (unfortunately the MXR 10 band doesn’t have shelving but it will get you in the ballpark). Cheers.
@@jcm9005 I use a Mesa oversized Recto 4 x 12 cabinet with V30s running in stereo with a vintage early nineties Mesa half open back cab with two Black Shadows on top and two EV 12Ls on bottom. Right now I am running stereo two heads using the Mesa Switch Track, the Mesa Mark IIC++ with the aphex EQ on half of each cab, and then an early nineties Mesa Dual Rec 2 Channel on the other half of the two cabs to add back in some low mid girth/grind. I have Delay running in effects loop of the Dual Rec.
@@jcm9005 the V30s are great. They are my fav speaker for metal tones. Metallica used them on Black album and later. On Ride and Master I believe they were using G12 65’s and then on justice I think it was G12 75’s mixed with some Mesa Cabs with black shadows and EV 12L’s (Kirk most likely was using these cabs on leads). With a Mark Series amp I find the V30s tame some of the harsh presence. Especially if you are running a Mark III Blue Stripe (the harshest Mark series). On my Mark III red stripe I keep presence on 2 to 3. And on the Mark IIC++ I run presence at 4. The presence on those old Mark series can be brutal, and when turned up makes the tone very scratchy almost “clicky” sounding on percussive chug riffs.
I did the same research based on Rasmussen notes and have been trying them for my Mark III red stripe that now is actually self-modded to identical IIC+ spec. I agree with most of what you said especially fiddling with EQs, but in terms of speakers, G12T-75 is the way to go for MoP and AJFA tone. V30 I think gives too different voicing but will be perfect for Black album.
Thats a pretty crazy transformation when the eq is added. I had a dsl and never got on with it and now have the mkv:25 like you and love it. Its a super expensive amp and Id recommend it to anyone but if you’re in budget and want that tone this seems like a really viable alternative.
