Why don't they sell the complete MOP tone kit, a few amps and cabinets + rack of effects + complete manual for settings ? that would amount to a few tens of thousands of $, but that would settle the issue for ever 😂
I actually rather the sounds that my 1960s all transistor VOX could produce over my JCM900 full-stack that my ex won at an Aerosmith concert back in 1990 and obviously let me have. I prefer that old sound, and much rather that than any digital "re-creations" of the awesome old gear. PS - I sold the JCM900 head and the top 4x4 to a mate, and kept the bottom cab for my 1960s Orange, and used it with Arion pedals and his Boss ME5!!!
@@Vivi_9 My other half at the time went to see Aerosmith at the Hammersmith Odeon, I didn't go as I wasn't really that bothered so she went with a couple of my work mates. Their entrance tickets turned out to be raffle tickets and the top prize was a Tama "full metal kit" and apparently (according to my mates) she really wanted it, even though she didn't play drums and we didn't have the space in our tiny 1-bedroom apartment. We had to get some of my mates to drive us there in two cars as neither of us drove and the JCM and its two 4x12 cabs takes up a lot of space. The Holy Grail of tone, I've spent my entire playing life chasing that sound, ever since I first bought Justice in 88... I'll never forget the moment as I first heard the intro to Blackened slowly building, once side one was finished I recall having a moment of thinking "do I just play that again, or flip it over for side two?" Thanks for doing these videos mate, it's a genuine pleasure to be on the journey with you
My fav guitar tone ever. Had never heard a Metallica song till 88 when that album came out and was like shit that distortion is amazing. Was blown away and is still my fav as of today.
I have no idea about guitars, never even played one. I just enjoy watching you play around with the different sounds, especially with classic albums like this.
Why do I keep expecting a 26 year old hetfield to come smashing through the door. Haha. I've actually heard people complaining about the tone on this album when to me, it's the heaviest guitar tone I've ever heard. This album is metallica at their peak with all due respect to cliff. Metallica has always been about one person to me: hetfield. He knows what sounds cool. His riffs, while maybe not as complex as mustaines, just sound cooler and heavier. To live is to die is a fucking masterpiece
Yeah never heard of people complaining about the tone till recent years. Back then that was the tone everyone talked about it. To me that's another reason a lot of people were disappointed with the Black Album. Tone was different cuz they used different amps.
Nah. The tone sucked then and it still sucks today. Doesn't hold a candle to Master of puppets. Shrill guitars and 0 Bass not to mention a terrible drum sound.
People who hate the guitar tone can suck it, it’s my favourite out of the classic Metallica, I mean go hear the riffs on Harvester of Sorrow & Blackened & if you think otherwise, you need to have your ears checked.
Ola Englund recommended your channel in his Sunday With Ola 87 video. I checked out your content and just subscribed. I LOVE the tone on Justice. You nailed it!
Great work. That album reminds of that era. The late eighties! What great time to be a teenager. Thanks for the dedication to create a tone that should never be forgotten.
Love watching this guy dive into the all the great tones we've all grown to love. In a world where most youtube'rs just download a patch and play its great to see someone using a real amp, cab, and pedals. Nothing against the sims and all the A.I technology, its fabulous and the future yet nothing beats true tube tone. I've been playing a mesa boogie roadster since 2008. My tone really came together when i put a MXR 10 band in the effects loop and a Precision Drive in front of the amp. To stand in front of the amp chugging on E5 is to feel metal heaven haha. Awesome work as always Lamb, really do a terrific service to the guitar tone chaser community worldwide!!

Yeah I think it's most obvious on the title track during the breakdown at 6:23. But I think he got that too when he played it at the end of the video. If he multitracked that he'd get the same "wub wub" effect. My peavey cab (closed back v30) does that too and it doesn't have to be deafeningly loud to have that as long as you push the bass/resonance EQ's
I have been playing guitar and Metallica tone chasing since I was 12 years old (almost 25 years), and I have never heard of box flex. So cool to learn something new!! Awesome video and tone! I ordered the EQFH off the back of watching this. I’ve had a Mark V:25 for about a month and still don’t have it dialled in yet. This should help.
Ah man, my most sought after tone. One day I will have enough coin to buy a mesa boogie. I already have EMG81’s (£80 each😭) But I absolutely love your tone videos, IMO I haven’t seen a single UA-cam creator get as close to the nail as you, it’s so close it’s impossible to criticise.
Have you ever notice a drop - even slight - in definition and character of the head when using the attenuator? I heard lots of people saying that it does affect the tone in the end.
Amazing ^^ Ive tried that often too but failed so far... Btw, why is this album so underrated? Imo its the best. The riffs and solos (like in One) are in no other that perfect. Not sure why noone is talking about it.
Hahahaha wow that's really something dude, the vibe is undeniable! I'm likely gonna listen to this video on a few different sets of speakers! Closest I've managed to get to this sort of tone is on my zoom Multistomp 🤣
@@LambChopper678 I have a Frankie from this same era. I prefer more concave as well. I was using this one during the Public Domain period, learned a lot of the street ticks from that vid on it🤙
Something I noticed last time I listened to Justice was a slight chorusing on everything guitar wise, even the rhythm tracks. It could be due to recording and layering so many tracks but a slight chorus, just so you can barely hear it might be the secret sauce
Just remember Kirk Hammet and Bob Rock used every bit of equipment in the studio to replicate Gary Moore's tone but failed. All they had to do was crank a 1959SLP stack with a Gibson LP.
It is such a raw sound double tracking is needed to give it a bit more life. The Keeley 30MS double tracker would probably work wonders, set up properly of course.
Incredible Chopper!!! - you almost made me cry when you were laying down the law on “ To Live Is To Die “ That has always affected all of my emotions more than any other Metallica track. Glad you’re keeping busy . We love you brother !!!

Have you ever notice a drop - even slight - in definition and character of the head when using the attenuator? I heard lots of people saying that it does affect the tone in the end.
Nailed it! Really enjoy your vids - thanks a lot
Amazing ^^ Ive tried that often too but failed so far...
Btw, why is this album so underrated? Imo its the best. The riffs and solos (like in One) are in no other that perfect. Not sure why noone is talking about it.
Your bird friend is quite relaxed. Very cool. Metal Bird. 😎
Hahahaha wow that's really something dude, the vibe is undeniable!
I'm likely gonna listen to this video on a few different sets of speakers!
Closest I've managed to get to this sort of tone is on my zoom Multistomp 🤣
Simply and truly amazing.
One of my favorite skateboard decks on the right.. 🤙
It’s a cool deck but I prefer the Frankie Hill. I like a descent concave. The old Powell’s are too cool
@@LambChopper678 I have a Frankie from this same era. I prefer more concave as well. I was using this one during the Public Domain period, learned a lot of the street ticks from that vid on it🤙
Wait a minute, you mean the DSL couldn't do it? NNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude your tones are so spot on it is crazy!
🤘🤘🤘🤘🙏🙏🙏💜💜💜
You diiiiiiiid it!!!!!!!!!!! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
All I can say is Awesome!!
Nice Frankie Hill and Vallely decks. I've always been a powell man, also, currently cruising on a Ray Barbee Ragdoll.
Dude that is awesome! I've struggled and continue to struggle to achieve this albums tone.
Something I noticed last time I listened to Justice was a slight chorusing on everything guitar wise, even the rhythm tracks. It could be due to recording and layering so many tracks but a slight chorus, just so you can barely hear it might be the secret sauce
The fact that there’s stuff in front of the door makes me imagine that you locked yourself in that room until you found the tone
Holy shit!! What a tone!! Best sounding album 🤘
Awesome! Cheers LambChopper678. So on Point.
We need a play thru, Your Slayer Jam is one of my favorites. AJFA would be epic!
A half hour of Metallica riffs 😂
That tone sounds spot on!
Excellent content! Keep it coming.
Your sound is more raw reminded me that I have a demo version of One .
There’s no way to truly capture this tone . Analog tape plays a bigger role than we all surmise
It just adds a little compression and high end roll-off. No mystery.
@@vorpalblades it makes everything bigger . James tones has blown ever since they went full digital
@@techdeathhippie6319 this is one of the shittiest tones ever. It's weak as fuck.
@@vorpalblades hell no . Nothing touches those tones . Especially today with the sterile axe efx fake shit .
I’m Aussie dude you too hah love ya work brother keep up your good work
Damn that’s bang on bro! Thanks for sharing your secret sauce 👌🏻
Just remember Kirk Hammet and Bob Rock used every bit of equipment in the studio to replicate Gary Moore's tone but failed. All they had to do was crank a 1959SLP stack with a Gibson LP.
We don't speak of Bob Rock here, he da devil
@@restojon1 best produced metal album definitely not
@@restojon1 🤣
Love the Frankie Hill Deck up on the wall
It is such a raw sound double tracking is needed to give it a bit more life. The Keeley 30MS double tracker would probably work wonders, set up properly of course.
Also well done and good morning from Brisbane!
James on recording AJFA layered his guitars even more times like 3-5 times to give this tone fukn metal life
This sounds amazing Lamb! I might have to order one of those EQFHs.....
Incredible Chopper!!!
- you almost made me cry when you were laying down the law on “ To Live Is To Die “ That has always affected all of my emotions more than any other Metallica track.
Glad you’re keeping busy .
We love you brother !!!
