Well you are right to some extent. Poverty does go into account when it comes to police interaction. But you are wrong to say that race does not matter. Police misconduct disproportionatley affects Black males when adjusted for population. But with that being said the media does the country a great diservice by mainly focusing on the over policing of black Americans this shit effects all of us. I'm not aware of the conditions, circumstances in the municipality. I DO know some smaller PDs get way over, 💰. One small PD in Massachusetts had veteran cops(15-25yr) earning $250,000.00 + due to union rules, city policy. A town with 20 cops should not have city employees(sworn officers) making more than the mayor or city council. A narcotics Sgt 🕵🏼♂️ in Sunrise FL made $250,000.00/yr with OT, court fees, special duty pay.
barry funk - Forest Lake has a population of 20,220. That's one Officer for every 879 residents. Keep in mind that all 23 Officers aren't on duty at the same time, so that runs the ratio up to over 1700:1.. that's not that many Officers.

Some smaller towns like this rural 1, more lately, are seeing the value (better service @ lower cost) of paying for county PD. It’s ‘beautiful’ as I said to consider something other than the status quo (& entrenched officials, many on a power trip & some robbing taxpayers).

Police Departments have to much authority and jurisdiction. This was a topic of discussion in my criminology class, if we restructured the way police do their jobs less crime would happen. Furthermore, if we had more Departamental initiatives within the departments which solely focused on civil disobedience, domestic consultations, and community engagement their jobs would be less stressful and dramatically more safe. Just my thoughts.

Actually its an example of "outsourcing" by bureaucrats, to save a few bucks, so they can put that money in their own pockets instead.
My city's police department pays more then double what my county's sheriff office does (and it shows). My city doesn't outsource to the county for the primary reason of QUALITY. If you want to get shot dead for a routine call, then by all means call the sheriff's office.
However my city is happy to pay the extra money for a quality police department, that serves and protects... and NOT intimidate and harass. As a general rule, you get what you pay for. Quality employees result in quality service. Cheap employees result in poor results.

The city can do like a city in Georgia did . There are companies that have private police. The city doesn't have to pay for their pensions or health insurance. All of these city , state ,county ,pensions are under funded. The city even got better police protection at a lot lower cost.

Cops have pissed off people so much that the citizens would rather go without the drama and expense of having to fund an organization that serves nobody.

Most would probably just end up working for the county or a neighboring community. In this case though if you look it up they held another vote 6 days later and were never disbanded.
