Im a first generation born Afghani American woman and I saw you and dragged all my friends to your set. Amazingly beautiful. So happy for you in that moment and all of us brown woman🎉❤❤. Congratulations on tiny desk !
This music began before the time and place in which it was expressed, and it continues even if we are not willing or able to discern it’s presence. This music began before a single soul was conceived and continues after all souls cease. Music unheard, permeates and molds lives, deaths, loves, ignorance, pain, joy, wisdom. It is music of all times and places and of neither.
@@judeirwin2222It seems to be inevitable that when someone expresses a heartfelt sentiment a crotchety vibe-killer like Jude Irwin appears to whinge about something completely inconsequential. Like The Dude (sort of) says, “You’re not wrong, you’re just an assh*le.”
Vijay Iyer is one of the most mesmerising improvisational artists out there. To anyone watching this, I cannot recommend enough that you check out his album Uneasy with Linda Oh and Tyshawn Sorey - it’s one of most powerful examples of art as resistance I’ve experienced!
Far from over - Graham Haynes (cornet, flugelhorn, electronics), Mark Shim (tenor sax), Steve Lehman (alto sax), Stephan Crump (bass), Tyshawn Sorey (drums) - 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Wonderful. What a beautiful interpretation of the traditional Hindustani Thumri 'Ras ke bhare torey nain' ("Your eyes full of passion"). Great vocals and really sensitive accompanists. Each one a virtuoso.
I had the good fortune to watch her perform live last night at the jazz festival۔ One word reaction، " Otherworldly"۔ Just with her voice modulations and variations، she picks you up from the depths of your soul and takes you on unknown journeys۔ My gosh، what an experience۔ Listening to her live leaves a long lasting impact on you۔ She was generous enough to stop and give an autograph and accept a gift from me۔ May she flourish even more and continue to be our guide to uncharted journeys of the soul۔ Stay blessed Arooj Aftab۔
I had the good fortune of hearing her twice at Big Ears recently. I wonder about this recording. I don't want to be the guy who criticizes the audio on Tiny Desk concerts b/c they are fantastic at what they do. But, I think we're missing some low-mids from her voice. I am totally guessing, but it seems plausible that the mic picked up a lot of low frequency bleed from the instruments and they had to roll that off some. I think we're missing a little bit of the lowest spectrum from her voice. In person it's even richer - if you can believe that. I find it hard to believe, and I heard it.
I'm only 3 mins and 56 seconds in and it's very much giving cinematic music. I can totally hear this in the beginning of a movie setting the tone for a strained existence between two worlds that we will later see a battle from.

Every time I listen to this TDC, I feel my mind, body and soul becoming 'one' and I let myself fall into the emptiness of the universe. Thank you

Beautifully written! It’s what I was thinking, but didn’t know how to verbalise.

Amazing vox and textures. . . The sound of the Moog Rogue is like no other synth. . .
Magical, and hypnotic. Although the 2 commercial interruptions were especially jarring and unwelcome.
Yes commercials during music are much worse than commercials during a movie
