Oh Sid. What a gift to find you. I watched this first on my birthday a week ago. I was alone and sad. But finding you was the gift I needed. So many tears and smiles while listening. I’ve listened many time since. Your Tiny Desk hit me like Jazmine Sullivan’s did. Talent rising.
He has been breaking ground in every region around the world. These are some of his songs from India, you should give these a try. Enai Noki Paayum Thota (this is in Tamil) and UYIRE Sid Sriram (this is in Malayalam). I truly believe music transcends language.
My mother recently passed. She had a deep profound love for music. She would feel music and dance in ways I haven't seen in other people. She loved culture and and music influenced by different cultures. She would have loved this music so much and I never knew the thought of never being able to show her music I've found again in my life would hurt this way. But the music also helps heal me and remind me of that relationship I had with music and her. So thank you. This is profoundly beautiful and you are so talented.
Definitely a pleasant surprise, even my 4yr old comes in after the second song and says, "mom I like this music." Now that's saying something. Someone told us, in Spotify India, the highest streamed Indian artist in entire 2022 was Sid Sriram! This tinydesk concert shows why! Sid is incredibly versatile. Even though Sid is huge in South India, recently he sang at Sawai Gandharv festival, the biggest Hindustani (North Indian) classical concert festival in India. That is actually incredible. His music transcends languages, borders, cultures ... a true world artist.
I don't think that's true... I love Sid but Arijit Singh has consistently been the most streamed artist in india on spotify. He's also the 4th most followed artist on spotify in the world, so it's hard for anyone else to be number 1 right now...

I went to Berklee 10+ years ago when he was there and knew him as an acquaintance through friends. However, it was evident even then how incredible of a talent he was back then and was always the talk of the school. I'm not surprised at all that he's even better since then and that he's on NPR. Easily one of the best voices out there, hands down.

There are no words for how much this and Sid means to me as 6th gen Indian, and as diaspora. Even more so that he still mentioned Muruga 😭❤
I went to Berklee 10+ years ago when he was there and knew him as an acquaintance through friends. However, it was evident even then how incredible of a talent he was back then and was always the talk of the school. I'm not surprised at all that he's even better since then and that he's on NPR. Easily one of the best voices out there, hands down.
