The girl in the middle just multiplies the beauty of this video. She seems to be extremely thrilled to be signing behind Chris and genuinely enjoying herself throughout the session with a gorgeous wide smile.
This once again proves that Coldplay is one of the best bands in history . Viva la Vida is truly one of Chris Martin's best written songs ever and makes you feel pure bliss .

I was just thinking about how this vibe reminded me of going to an actual Coldplay concert. The alchemy between people... It's the same feeling. They just make it happen and take everyone with them and tou couldn't resist it even if you wanted to! I know some other bands can do this too but with Coldplay it's something else
Imagine how sick of Viva La Vida these guys have to be after all these years... The choir makes the band look like they’ve been revived with a new energy. All smiles from Chris Martin!
@@ztbt I'm with Zach. Chris has a pure soul and he's a light above all of us. He suffers with us, he's one of us but with that incredible talent and personality that's just amazing. I couldn't shed a tear with anyone but Chris Martin if he'd just be aside of me. It's something I couldn't tell about. Cheers guys, love from Chile.
I'm from Australia and I'm a musician. In 2018, I was in the deep south for a month visiting. We attened famous soul singer Al Greens church on a sunday morning in Memphis. Rev Al was amazing! It was an experience I'll never forget. Im not a religious person at all. I turn around and look around the church, and Chris Martin and his son Apple were sitting behind me. Im not a huge Coldplay fan myself. No one really figured out who he was except for me and my friend. He was standing up the back getting right into the gospel music, clapping and moving to the music. Watching this concert kind of tells me were he got the idea from. I have alot more respect for him and Coldplay now :)
So lucky I got to hear it now, the choir is amazing, they are all extremely talented. The joy of being part of the music was infectious. I hope everyone is well, blessings and thank you all 🙏🎼🙏😘
I’m shaking from first second of this video. I didn’t know he is such a wonderful artist. I’m crying, I don’t know why. I just want to play piano. He reminds me how music makes life colorful.

1. Coldplay - the band with zero ego. 2. Chis Martin is the most gifted frontman I've ever seen live. The difference his energy and focus brings to even that little 30 second moment in between songs is special.
@@Pfuetz4 1. No, it's not true, there are many bands better than Coldplay in sales or critical acclaim. 2. Yes, it's an ego if they glorify it. 3. Most gifted front man? You better check somebody named Freddy Mercury or Axl Rose.
@@Ardiantothehulk prince lol. Don’t get me wrong, I have a lot of respect for Chris. Definitely not everyone’s cup of tea but no one will beat prince in my eyes. It’s all subjective of course.

@@jordantandiary3031 I feel like Coldplay is an amazing band but isn't seen that way because they're "mainstream" which many entitled people automatically dislike as a result. But these guys have deadass masterpiece song-for-song compared to The Beetles/Pink Floyd....you name it.
It's just personal taste. I guess many people would argue you are missing out by not listening to their favorite band. If we're not throwing hate at music we don't like , everyone could get joy and happiness without bothering others..
Look at how Chris fidgets when he speaks; I admire him for that. Still humble despite all the fame and the numerous times he's performed in front of large crowds.
That’s one of the factors I felt in love with Coldplay for . Making money factors means that Coldplay has to produce a big amount of concerts in overcrowded stadiums with people crazily yelling and singing but THE BEST PERFORMANCES and style of Coldplay are glowing in small spaces/small groups of people and acoustic style , I love how the improvise during the patterns of the song making every some different than a concert before … hope they keep playing forever
Exactly. Nothing better than bringing a bunch of joyful musicians right into your living room to lighten up the mood. Art is crucial for survival. Hugs from me, too!
I can’t explain what this tiny desk makes me feel .. like you just feel the joy and pure love in every lyric . The love choir is always 🔥 and Chris like sunshine
It’s not often that backing vocals match - if not outshine - the main act! Nothing against Chris, but the energy, love and smiles from the team standing give this performance a real texture!
I agree but it's not like they are competing. Chris would have arranged this, placing himself as 'other member of the band' instead of the big front guy. He interestingly had an issue with this in the past, like the front man thing was changing his ego or something to that effect and was also getting paid more than the other band members because he was also doing all the press. From then on he chose to split everything equally.
Just the nicest dude. Pure joy all the way through. It's clear that Chris is keen for everybody to just do what they feel through the performance which is so lovely to see. The lady in the middle is a complete delight, the way she smiles throughout and emanates joy with every word she sings is so captivating. Just a wonderful, wonderful performance. Makes me proud to call Chris a fellow Brit!
This is what I've always loved about Chris Martin... Coldplay's more recent music doesn't really excite me all that much, but watching him perform, his pure love for what he does always shines through. What a contagiously joyous soul he is!!
I think exactly the same about that beautiful and talented woman, in fact, I'm looking for a way to follow her, but I can't find material about her.I am completely captivated
Jas Bataille of course nothing is going to be forever. However we can still savor the sweet moment internet can grant us, and I believe it’s more likely that mankind will die off before internet, unless someone else invents a “better” internet.
you know Viva La Vida is a song for the ages when it still holds on to it's musical integrity no matter what variation it goes through.. I'm convinced this is my favorite version of the song. There's nothing like a black choir to give a whole new essence of life to a song. amazing!
"And uh... this is Johnny, we've been bestfriends for about 25 years now, and we are in the band called Coldplay..." I really love that Chris always introduce the band. Like, who on earth does not know Coldplay?!
I love how the choir overpowered chris in viva la vida and then he becomes a hyoe man for the whole thing. Seeing coldplay live was the best thing thats ever happened.
Yeah me too! I just know it. Great way to chase away the blues caused by staying indoors and quarantining. Thank you Tiny desk, Coldplay and the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir.
I've been listening for Tiny Desks a lot on these days, and I've listened to many of them. But this one from Coldplay is the best, I always comeback here to listen to it again.
One of childhood to now favorite bands. Especially the 2000s era Coldplay. Golden time. Eveytime i see live versions of some of my fave songs of theirs i fall in love all over again. Chris Martin is such a gem all around❤ Tiny desk concerts are such treats. Im always amazed especially when i see some of my favorites artists on there
Thanks for putting that up! He mentions the “love choir behind me” but I couldn’t find anything for a group called Love Choir. Do you know what the name of that group of singers is? If they have their own thing
I wouldn't usually list Coldplay as one of my favorite bands, but this is BY FAR my favorite Tiny Desk concert ever! It brings me so much joy and I've been watching it daily during quarantine to sooth my soul.
I'd recommend you listen to BTS tiny desk concert (it came out yesterday) best thing to listen to if you are searching for happiness and comfort in quarantine :)
I've seen coldplay live in stadiums and it was incredible every time. One of the most amazing live acts you'll ever see. But this is such a different way of experiencing them and I love it. So much soul and joy here.
I don’t know why this is making me cry right now. I’m just dealing with a heavy heart because of the covid19 casualties in my country, and this is just what i needed to hear.
"And I discovered that my castles stand, on pillars of salt, pillars of sand". I've always thought Viva La Vida was a truly exceptional song, and I'm fairly neutral about Coldplay in general (very good early B-sides though), but my god that lyric has real resonance in the heart of a pandemic.
Yes Ger, I have; It has such a calming, hypnotic melody. I've got a bit addicted to Such a Rush recently. Might be because of the lyric: "Such a rush to do nothing at all, such a rush to get nowhere at all".
I've found most of Mylo Xyloto is doing the same for me right now (Us Against The World, UFO, Every Teardrop, Up In Flames). Coldplay do NOT get enough respect for their lyrics.
Ozymandias by Percy Shelley I met a traveller from an antique land, Who said-“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand, Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown, And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed; And on the pedestal, these words appear: My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings; Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair! Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.”
This was really incredible to experience. The choir and Chris' vocals are just out of this world with their harmonizing. And Johnny was so into it too. Absolutely captivating of the senses. I didn't realise i was smiling throughout the whole thing til the end.
There's something magical about the tone of Chris's voice that makes me feel like everything's going to be alright, the universe is unfolding as it should ❤️
This is just joy in action. Look at the vocalists adoring enjoyment of Chris and his artistry, pure delight, and childlike expressiveness! Thank you for shining the light!
Coldplay and the choir were magical together. Hearing "1999" brought tears to my eyes. Looking at the date of this performance, this is right around the beginning of COVID and the following week, most everyone at our company was working from home. Thanks to NPR for being responsible and having the ability to switch gears to the home performances so quickly, within 2 weeks.

Yeah, 1999 Don'tcha wanna go? 1999 Don'tcha wanna go? 1999 We could all die any day, 1999 - Champion of the World (14:37) I tried my best to be just like The other boys in school I tried my best to get it right And died at every duel This mountainside is suicide This dream will never work Still the sign upon my headstone, write "A champion of the world" I tried my best to stay alight Fly like a firework I tried my best at taking flight But my rocketship reversed Oh, referee, don't stop the fight Everyone can see, I'm hurt But I'll stand before conquistadors 'Til I'm champion of the world And when I sail I'm sailing west (Though I might fail) Knowing I might fail But, still I am hoping for the best And in my dreams Onto my chest She'll pin the colours and say "I wandered the whole wide world but Baby, you're the best" So I'm flying on my bicycle Heading upwards from the Earth I am jumping with no parachute Out into the universe I have E.T. on my bicycle Because giving up won't work I am riding on my rocketship And I'm champion of the world
You could be playing old rusty pots and pans with broken wooden spoons on the pavement and he’d sit cross legged next to you, and add vocals (which would be unbelievably fitting). The guy lives for music. Beautiful.

Imagine how sick of Viva La Vida these guys have to be after all these years... The choir makes the band look like they’ve been revived with a new energy. All smiles from Chris Martin!
Christopher Colwell something tells me Chris Martin isn’t the type to get sick of something. The mans got a real lust for life.
Cheers guys, love from Chile.

chris...the happiest vocalist ever, just in love with his positive vibes
Apple is his daughter. Moses is the son. Great story!
I'm so glad they recorded this before the world shut down.

Chris Martin sounds like butter, maple syrup, pan cakes and sun shine. The joy in his voice. So up lifting.

1. Coldplay - the band with zero ego.
2. Chis Martin is the most gifted frontman I've ever seen live. The difference his energy and focus brings to even that little 30 second moment in between songs is special.

Michael Kennedy Have you heard Strawberry Swing? That song is amazing, brings me to tears
Ozymandias by Percy Shelley
I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said-“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”
this version of 1999 should be on spotify, i want to hear it over and over again.

- Cry Cry Cry (0:00)
Cry, cry, cry, baby
Cry, cry, cry
In a book about the world
Called The Luminous Things
There are trees and flowers growing
While Jizo Bodhisattva sings
When you cry, cry, cry, baby
When you cry, cry, cry
When you cry, cry, cry, baby

Don't want us to hurt each other
Or cause each other pain
Don't want to feel what they don't know
We're in this together, baby
We're as singing is to rain
So I'll never, never, ever let you go
When you cry, cry, cry, baby
When you cry, cry, cry
When you cry, cry, cry, baby

Ooh, yeah
For your miracles outnumber
All the stars out in the sky

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning, I sleep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own
I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing
Now the old king is dead, long live the king
One minute, I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand
I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringin'
Roman Cavalry choirs are singin'
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason, I can't explain
Once you'd gone, there was never, never an honest word
And that was when I ruled the world
It was a wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become
Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh, who would ever want to be king?
I hear Jerusalem bells a-ringin'
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror, my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason, I can't explain

Forgive me if it goes astray
But when I woke up this morning
I coulda sworn it was Judgment Day
The sky was all purple
There were people runnin' everywhere
Tryin' to run from my destruction
You know I didn't even care
'Cause they say
2000, zero, zero, party over
Oops, out of time
So tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999
I was dreamin' when I wrote this
So sue me if I go too fast
But life is just a party
And parties weren't meant to last
War is all around us
My mind says, "Prepare to fight"
So if I gotta die
I'm gonna listen to my body tonight, yeah
They say
2000, zero, zero, party over
Oops, out of time
So tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999, yeah, yeah
Let me tell ya somethin'
If you didn't come to party
Don't bother knockin' on my door
I got a lion in my pocket
And baby, he's ready to roar, yeah, yeah
Everybody's got a bomb
We could all die any day, oh
But before I'll let that happen
I'll dance my life away, oh
They say
2000, zero, zero, party over
Oops, out of time
We're runnin' outta time
So tonight (tonight I'm gonna party like it's 1999), we're gonna, we're gonna, ow

- Champion of the World (14:37)
I tried my best to be just like
The other boys in school
I tried my best to get it right
And died at every duel
This mountainside is suicide
This dream will never work
Still the sign upon my headstone, write
"A champion of the world"
I tried my best to stay alight
Fly like a firework
I tried my best at taking flight
But my rocketship reversed
Oh, referee, don't stop the fight
Everyone can see, I'm hurt
But I'll stand before conquistadors
'Til I'm champion of the world
And when I sail
I'm sailing west
(Though I might fail) Knowing I might fail
But, still I am hoping for the best
And in my dreams
Onto my chest
She'll pin the colours and say
"I wandered the whole wide world but
Baby, you're the best"
So I'm flying on my bicycle
Heading upwards from the Earth
I am jumping with no parachute
Out into the universe
I have E.T. on my bicycle
Because giving up won't work
I am riding on my rocketship
And I'm champion of the world
