      Hi Jane - I feel your loss, its touched our lives recently too. I use my art as a way free my mind and deal with the situation. So, I fully appreciate how this might be good for you too. I absolutely love painting flowers - almost as much as wildlife, landscapes, seascapes .... did I miss anything. You can tell I'm a painting nut. Don't worry about being anything other than someone taking every day as it comes. In time things will change as they must. Sending you good wishes and a big art hug. Now find someone and pass that on. - Paul 😉😉🤔🤔🤗🤗😘😘

      Well youv'e taken the first step on that path. Just saying 'Hi' and lets paint together is a perfect start. Have you got a kitchen timer? If you dont - get one! If you have set it for 30 mins and start the underpainting process in the tutorial. It needs to be completed in 30 mins. Everything! No cheating. Then leave it to dry (oils or acrylics is OK) Then a few days later - you didn't fiddle with it did you - set you timer for 30 mins and paint the bulk of the background. Then walk away for a few days - Then in the last 30 mins finish the painting and call it done. This is a serious exercise in self control and I'll be making a video on this next week. - Best wishes - Paul

    Your sense of value and texture here is superb. There’s some photorealism happening here, not unlike some of Estes work. Whether you did this intentionally or not, doesn’t really matter. It’s a gorgeous piece of art.

      Hi Darlene - I too suffered at the hands of teachers who's sole aim was to frighten the living daylights out of the kids in the class. I was at school in the 60's when there was a shortage of teachers but plenty of ex army instructors looking to retrain. Now, some were truely amazing and became some of my best teachers. But a handful had challenges. One comment that stuck in my head was - don't let someone elses opinion become your reality - I fought aginst those that said you couldn't. So you pick up that brush and paints and have fun. No matter what you paint. Its your world as Bob would say. Happy Painting - Paul 😃🥰😎

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  3 місяці тому

      Hi Margaret - you follow some amazing artists already ( Kevin Hill, Chuck Black etc ) so great choices. I kept the detailing on this scene to a minimum. I wanted to show how little we need to do to paint a scene. One the underpainting was roughed in the rest was so quick and the potential for stress and mud mixing reduced. Try blocking in for 30 mins and leaving it to dry ( use acrylics if you have them ). Then add the least amount of over painting. Choose a simple scene like I did. You'll be amazed at how far your blocking in will have taken you to a finished painting - Paul 😃😍😎

      Hello Stephanie - I have had so many of these experiences I cannot tell you. I wish I has bought shares in baby wipes and kitchen towels - I'd be worth a mint! But these experiences are pure gold and will shape our future paintings. So the moral is - don't sweat the small stuff. Just paint a simple scene simply and let the imagination fill the gaps. Now lest see if I can do that again! Hold tight for the next tutorial - Have lovely week - Paul and the gang 🐱😹😻😃😍😎

It's such a great feeling to know I'm making videos that folks like you can use and hopefully improve your painting experience. As for tea - it's either Red Label or Dorset tea - freshly boiled water ( must be boiling btw) - dash of milk ( no cream ) and a teaspoon of sugar. Nice and strong. What we call 'builders tea'. If you can stand a spoon up in it, its just about right. Consumed very hot with a bacon butty - bloody lovely!😄😎

You list a whole heap of kit that you've collected. This is now a barracade to hide behind or to stop you. Maybe look at starting from a simpler angle. So start with a piece of paper and a pencil and see where that takes you. Best wishes - Paul 😎

      Hello Miriam - well I only use the very finest dollar store / Pound land sponges for my art - basically the cheapest closed cell ( so fairly dense) cellulose car sponge cut into 2" cubes. I distress one face by tearing out small chunkes so it looks like the surface of the moon. This gives the broken effect I like for my foliage, But the bonus is a nice edge for tighter shapes. I turn and squeeze the sponge as I go to create infinite shapes. Now, go have some fun with your art. A new video out this Sunday - Paul 😃😍😎

      Hi Wayne - thank you for watching and a great question. I think a video on the subject is the right way to give a full answer - coming soon. But to give you a summary - I used fast drying acrylics to speed up the process of oil painting. I love the look and feel of oils so the Bob Ross liquid clear is a way of sealing the canvas and helps with adding oils and getting those rich bright highlights. Plus the special effects of oils that acrylics don't have. Hope to see you for more painting fun and look out for the video on the technique - Best wishes - Paul 😃😎

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  3 місяці тому

      Hi Kim - pacing yourself is always a challenge. I tend to paint faster mainly for the camera and making a video. But the benifit is that I don't have time to fiddle. But yes, like you I prefer to paint a little slower and enjoy the creative process. The general rule of thumb is that the water based paints like acrylic form a base layer over which oils can be painted. Acrylic dosn't stick well to oils so once I'm in the oils phase I don't go back to acrylic. All the highlights are in oils. Hope to hear from you again soon - Paul 😃😍😎

      Hi Jenny - thanks for watching the video and a great question. Once the acrylic underpainting is dry and we start with oils we can't use acrylics again. I only use acrylics to speed up the process of getting the scene underpainted. Traditionally this step would have been done in oils but the drying time between adding a second glaze would sometimes be weeks. This is a useful short cut to get into a painting. Yes its a problem which is why I prefer to finish my paintings in oils. I need thinking time! But you can get retarders that slow the drying time. I haven't use any so I dont no for sure how good they are. The other thing I've seen is a stay-wet palette. Its a plastic palette in a tray with a pad you add water too. Helloo awesome work, 🎉 can I use the liquid clear oil paint on acrylic painting?

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes you can Betsy as long as the acrylics are completely dry. Acrylic paints being waterbased need to have dried before adding any oil based paints. Always use them in that order. Acrylic paint dosn't stick too well to oils and might flake off over time. Plus oils are considered a live medium. In other words they never truly dry unless centures old. If you warm old oil paintings they become sticky again and start to bleed out clear oil mediums like linseed. Happy Painting - Paul 😃😍😎

      @@PaulRansonArt thank you, sorry one more question is gloss or satin varnish okay also?

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  3 місяці тому +1

      @@betsylei1538 good question Betsy. Bob Ross Liquid clear isnt a varnish. Liquid clear is a very slow drying clear oilpainting medium like linseed oil. Its used to seal up the acrylic and then allow oil paint to be painted directly on top. The painting the dries very slowly. Varnish is way too thick and dries way to fast and will react with the oil paint. Please dont use it like liquid clear. If you can't find Bob Ross Liquid clear then use a tiny drop or two of linseed oil scrubbed in well. Happy Painting - Paul 😃😃😍😍😎😎

      Hi Joe - welcome aboard my little art channel. Great feedback like yours is so important to me as an amature vidoeographer. Whilst I know one end of a brush from another, video is a whole new ball game. So I'll keep making them as long as kind folk like you enjoy watching them. Have a great week - Paul 😃😎

      Dear Paul, l found you in the early hours of the morning; l couldn't sleep and had been feeling guilty about my lovely box of oil paints, languishing on a shelf, an unopened gift. Well, you've changed all that! Your gentle advice presented so cleverly and beautifully made me want to cry. Tomorrow l will ransack the house for sponges and fill a blank canvas with a beautiful painting, as you have showed us. Thank you Paul for giving us all so much inspiration and guidance. Love and best wishes, Sheila x❤

      @@sheilaclarke3692 Hi Sheila - I'm bowled over by your message. I'm so delighted to hear those paints are going to be unleashed. Painting ( creativity in general ) is a very emotional topic. From highs and lows - often separated by a few brush strokes! Well at least where I'm concerned. So have a ton of fun what ever you do. Then make a nice cuppa tea and have a cookie and admire your work. - Happy painting - Paul 🥰🥰🥰🥰😎😎

    Best advice ever given. My paintings turn out best when I paint fearlessly, and tell myself just paint and make those confident bold brush strokes and enjoy the painting process.

      Hi Merri - Yes, a big canvas used to be intimidating until I started looking at it as a world of possibilities. Rather than a pit of doom. Having a plan is one way to approch a painting with a sense of control and confidence. Tonights painting is also going to help - see you soon 😃😍😎

      Your channel just popped up on my feed and I am so very glad it did Paul, you are such an inspiration and I was hooked the minute I heard you calm lovely voice. Your painting turned out absolutely beautiful, I could have climbed in there and followed that little path. I even believe I might be able to paint 😮, well put it this way I am going to give it a go and see what happens 😆 thanks to your encouragement. Sheena x

      @@lottieloobylou5035 Hi Sheena - wow thank you for such a lovely message. I'm glad we met too. I did this scene in acrylic and oils as its a nice way of creating a scene. You don't need expensive materials to get started either. If you click with this technique then invest a little more in the hobby ( unless you already paint of course ). Have lots of fun and paint your version of this scene. Hope to see you for more painting fun. New videos are out on Sunday at 6.00pm UK time - Paul 🥰🥰🥰🥰

    Oh! That's exactly what I was hit by and had been delaying to finish a painting for almost the past 4 months. Now I guess...no I will finish it whichever way it comes out. Thank you so much for this message 🙏🏻

      Thats the way to go. Just sit back and make a plan for the finish of the painting. Keep it simple as possible and look for the areas that will make the most impact. Dont spend too long playing with things as the paint will get muddy and loose its freah look. Best wishes - Paul 😃😎
