    Excellent! If you use essential oils in your ointment, cool the salve a bit before adding the oils because the heat will harm the effectiveness of the EO's.
    Also, make sure you buy quality oils. What you get from Walmart is, by law, allowed to say 100% as long as it's all oil. For example, it can be 75 parts olive oil and 25 parts tea tree oil but be labeled 100% tea tree oil. That is according to FDA guidelines.
    I made comfrey and plantain salve for healing tendinitis in my foot. I mix and match all kinds of oils. I think I'm going to start a UA-cam channel on ointments, salves, etc because they are shockingly not common among most people. Thanks for sharing.

    Fun fact: ganglion cysts are sometimes called Bible cysts because that was usually the heaviest book folks had in their homes. I had one that I got rid of by simply patting on it an d rubbing it (with a firm pressure) over the course of 3-4 days. I've felt two others coming on over the years and did the same. Worked great for me.

    This is so interesting! Most of my family is employed in healthcare and I'm going to school to work in healthcare. I've always been told to take a pill for everything, pain, sick, stomach ache, headache, you name it. I wonder how much better I will feel if I started making medicine the natural way! Thank you so much for all your information!

    I can not express how much I enjoy watching you. I love Essential oils. Tea tree and emu oil are wonderful for burns. My son had 2nd degree burns and I soaked his burn bandages in emu oil and overnight it improved so much they cancelled his skin graft. Essential oils work. i

    Out of desperation from being sick on and off since Thanksgiving, I have given essential oils a try and I realize I should have gone to them first! They have worked wonders for us. I love Frankincense for skin and hope it works for your cyst. Thanks so much for the ointment recipe! ~Jennifer xx

    I made an ointment and added Orchid Extract/Oregano Oil and Tea Tree Oil...I'm omitting the Oregano next time to give as gifts. It has a strong smell but has excellent properties. Thank you for your info. The ointment I made is fantastic. So much better than anything you can buy off the store shelf.

    LOVE this video and topic this month! I get so intimidated by thinking about making things like this and you make it look so easy! I have things ready to make some tincture and ointments, now i just need to do it! I made an ointment once for my son's eczema and once for my knee (sort of like a natural healthy alternative to the hot cooling type creams you can buy. THANK YOU for doing this topic this month! Andrea Mills yes, there is! I love this subject, though. I wanted to know if you have any remedy for bad teeth? I have an infection and am getting it treated but don't want to have it pulled. I want to try and rebuild that tooth. Any ideas or herbs that I might be able to use to accomplish this?

    • @TheMillsFamilyVlog
      @TheMillsFamilyVlog  7 років тому +1

      We've use epsom salt water to swish and rinse to help draw out infection. Dr. Christopher and Rachel Weaver both recommend using Black Walnut as a tea or tincture to swish in your mouth several times a day and then you swallow it. (Rachel Weaver shares a story about someone who was in some sort of an accident and had badly damaged teeth. They had to wait for their jaw to heal before the dentist could start working on the teeth, so during the few weeks they were waiting this person used Black Walnut. When the time came to return to the dentist, all the cracks had healed on their own.) Another thing that we accidentally discovered was that cod liver oil, real butter and vitamin C used together can rebuild teeth. Thomas had a cavity that healed itself and I was trying to figure out what happened. After doing research I realized it must've been our daily breakfast of oatmeal (soaked overnight with a little lemon juice before cooking in the morning) with lots of butter, sea salt and heavy cream. (Plus sugar, chocolate chips or maple syrup for yumminess!) The kids also had eggs, fruit, a vitamin C and a cod liver oil capsule. Apparently butter oil, cod liver oil and vitamin C work well to rebuild teeth. I've noticed taking certain minerals like magnesium make my teeth better, too.

    • @angelovestea
      @angelovestea 7 років тому

      U r loaded with such good info. I am going to try this. Where would I get the black walnut? Is it a powder or in what form is it? I use real butter but I wonder if there is a certain kind of butter brand that is better than the others. I use Wal-Mart brand.

    • @TheMillsFamilyVlog
      @TheMillsFamilyVlog  7 років тому +2

      You can buy capsules or tincture from Amazon or you could buy leaves or powder from Mountain Rose Herbs to make your own tea or tincture. I just remembered that Black Walnut isn't recommended while breastfeeding. (I saw it on a list of herbs that decreases milk supply so I assume that's the reason, but I'm not positive. You may want to dig into that a bit or wait until the baby is weaned.) The best butter to use for healing teeth is something that's made from pasture-fed cows, if possible. You can find information about the particular brand you use on-line. (We used Organic Valley. Now we use Mother's Choice.) The benefit of the butter is the fat and the Vitamin K2. You can buy K2 supplements from Amazon also.

    I find this extremely interesting, though I am skeptical about the essential oil craze. I do know that I stumbled across Manuka Honey when my middle child was getting MRSA boils. I was desperate. He kept getting them in his diaper area and had a major reaction to the most conman antibiotic used to fight MRSA. His pediatrician told me that there was only one more on the market and if he had a reaction that he'd have to be admitted to the hospital for IV antibiotics every time he got another boil. So I bought a jar on Amazon and it worked! I would rub it on his boil, cover it with a band-aid and change it as needed. It was a miracle for our family. So while skeptical, I am interested because what if it works the same way that Manuka Honey worked for my family? Anyway, very interesting video!

    I've a ganglion cyst too, mine is on the inside of my wrist, I dont have that type of oil yet so I'm really interested to see if this helps yours at all. I recently went to a doctor for something else and had him look at it to make sure thats what it was, He said if its not bothering you then you can just ignore it. He also said he recently had one, and was scheduled for a surgery to have it removed, and like a week before his surgery, he hit it on something by accident and it burst or whatever (the bible thumping method lol) he said it hurt like mad and he REALLY wouldn't recommend it so hopefully the oil works !
    Does the bees wax serve a purpose in the ointment, or is it just to make it firmer? Our house is cooler so our coconut oil seems to stay pretty solid, Ive just been warming a little and adding some oil to it, then letting it firm back up. using lavender and peppermint oil to help with fibromyalgia pain and migraines. It does seem to help some. I've just recently started looking into oils and more natural healing, So im really excited to see what your going to be sharing with us this month! Sorry this is so long, but i love you channel :) and thanks for sharing your wonderful family with us!

    I have a ganglion cyst on my right wrist. I've had it for years. I've never tried any ointments on it but I have mashed it with a heavy book, it busts (under the skin), but comes back after a while. They really not painful or bothersome, mostly unsightly. You can have them surgically removed, which is an option I've never considered. If you choose to mash it, the more you do it, when it comes back, you can apply pressure with the thumb of the opposite hand and mash it. What brand of oils do you buy? Doterra is so expensive, the thought of 50 drops makes me a smidge nervous, lol.

      I was just reading about capsaicin (chile peppers) for arthritis and I had to share it with you. Apparently it relieves pain and rebuilds synovial fluid over time. You can apply it as a cream to the affected areas; the longer you use it (as in months) the better it works. Some people get some irritation at first, but apparently it's extremely effective. Here's a link for one kind on Amazon: www.amazon.com/Rugby-Capsaicin-0-025-Generic-Zostrix/dp/B01INL84NM/

    Does the oil and beeswax mixture need to cool before adding oils? Would the heat hurt the composition of oil?

    • @TheMillsFamilyVlog
      @TheMillsFamilyVlog  7 років тому +2

      I never let the oil get very hot in the first place. (I try to keep it at 120 degrees or less.) If it does get very hot, let it cool down quite a bit before adding the essential oils. If you add them when it's very hot, they may lose potency. (They're not going to be harmful, just less helpful.)

As I've said on other things, I'm not going to get all up-in-arms over whether I have the best one. I get what's available at a price I'm okay with. In my mind, it's better to get less than the best than nothing at all!

    I had a ganglion cyst last year and frankincense worked beautifully for me! I used it 3-4 times a day (just whenever I thought about it, really) for about a week and it was completely gone. Essential oils for the win!

    How do you feel and or what do you do for women's health? I'm looking for natural alternatives to a regular yearly check up with the mammography. Any tips or suggestions for websites?

    • @TheMillsFamilyVlog
      @TheMillsFamilyVlog  7 років тому +3

      This is just me and I'm not saying anyone else has to think this way, but I personally am not a fan of preventative care and checkups. From what I've read and understand, they're more of a way to get healthy people to pay for medical care so it increases business and, at the same time, they often _cause_ problems and detect things that would resolve themselves if left alone. I'm 38 and I don't plan to embark on a regular course of mammography and cervical checking. I plan to follow my grandmother's way. She's 82 and never goes to the doctor. She takes a few vitamins and enjoys life without the worry and hassle that most people her age deal with. Personally, I just pay attention to our health at home and I reserve the doctor's office for _when_ there's a problem I can't handle, not to see _if_ there's a problem. Doctor's shine when it comes to acute, emergency situations. For most other things I think we're better of taking care of ourselves. Here's a video of a doctor talking about mammograms; I just looked it up so I'm not sure what his whole angle is, but maybe it'll get you started on your own research: thetruthaboutcancer.com/video-mammograms-cause-breast-cancer/

      Thank you for this insight! And thank you for the link for the video! I too tend to agree with your direction, it's hard to find people that lean on this way of medical care or I guess I should say natural care that God has designed for us. I appreciate all that you do on your videos, I appreciate you sharing your family with us, I appreciate your sharing your time and energy with all of us! You are a remarkable woman and I do love your testimony. Thank you again for reminding me of Proverbs 14:1!!!!!!

    So I might have missed where it was said, but if you use herb infused oils, how much do you use in the recipes? What would equate to the 50 drops of essential oils? like I know that 75 drops makes a teaspoon in cooking, so would it be around that or different?

    • @TheMillsFamilyVlog
      @TheMillsFamilyVlog  7 років тому

      The recipe would be one cup of herb infused oil with 1 ounce (3 Tablespoons) of beeswax.

    • @Taro550
      @Taro550 7 років тому

      oh okay so if I used coconut oil, for example, I'd infuse the coconut oil then add the beeswax and skip the essential oils addition?

Would love to learn and share there,, especially making my own medicinals and did I see sewing too? (I got to see the page until it prompted me to sign in tried twice same response “page may be broken or taken down.” Is this just on my side? lol

      Unfortunately Andrea passed away in 2019. I am so glad that she was so helpful to you. There are lots of her videos on the channel with sewing and herbal things. I didn't know much about those things however. It makes me happy that she still helps people.

      I got them from US Plastics. You buy the jars and lids separately, but all together they're $1.15 per quart jar.

      Andrea Mills ...Thank you, I looked up all those books & (not Dr. Christopher's) they are all $25 & up used (on eBay & Amazon). Time to hit the used book stores. I'm gonna start building my herb collection & work on an ADD recipe. My son us very excited to help in his own healing. He wants to do better & be his own personal best. God has called him to be more than a conqueror.

    • @TheMillsFamilyVlog
      @TheMillsFamilyVlog  5 років тому +1

      Yes, you can. In fact, petroleum jelly is especially good when you want to protect the skin. I use that for my homemade diaper rash ointment because it helps keep moisture from getting on the skin.

    • @TheMillsFamilyVlog
      @TheMillsFamilyVlog  7 років тому +1

      In the past I've made ointments with garlic and onion. They're great for congestion. (We called it Pizza Ointment because of the smell.) As for coughing, we usually take a spoonful of honey. I haven't read this, but here's an article about the best essential oils for colds and flu. Maybe it'd be helpful. www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=3&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjt7a-XzdfSAhUs7YMKHfPuCJQQFggjMAI&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.offthegridnews.com%2Falternative-health%2Fthe-9-very-best-essential-oils-for-treating-colds-and-flu%2F&usg=AFQjCNGNkjvrfrw-xJL9BbkZcZSP6lcCJw&sig2=8EGhJwqmdD-bm2RiumG_Cg&bvm=bv.149397726,d.amc

    Isn't this so expensive? I just looked into EO's recently and wow, I said forget it, it's going to break the bank. What are your thoughts about the pricing?

    • @TheMillsFamilyVlog
      @TheMillsFamilyVlog  7 років тому +1

      I went to an essential oil party once when Eden was a baby and I realized right away I wasn't going to get into those as a hobby. I couldn't believe the prices! I remember wanting to get Oregano Oil at the party and it was like $60 a bottle. Not happening. About 2 years ago I got a bottle of the Mountain Rose Herbs brand. It's $11 for the same size I would've got at the party. I don't know if it's the same quality or not, but as I think about most things- better "low" quality than none at all! I'm far from a purist on anything. I'm a "do-your-bestist." I first started using oils about 15 years ago and I've got my collection I've gathered over the years, but I'm far from an expert on them. I barely consider myself knowledgeable. When a need arises and it seems like an oil is the right thing, I order it. Generally, though, I use herbs much more.

      I use and love doterra oils but I also love Hopewell oils (hopewelloils.com). I can't remember how I found her website, but she is so kind and knowledgable and I love supporting her. She has a large family (8 kids) and they have a little family store where she originally got into selling essential oils because of a couple of great experiences they had in their family with EOs. They are Christians, too. I emailed with her a bit about purity and testing the oils and it sounds like they are top notch (work with the best in the field) and very managable price-wise, plus she has lots of different oils available, in addition to other related products.
