I have done oil infusions of lots of different herbs, but the only time I used heat was for dandelion oil. Basically, I lined my crockpot with an old towel, poured in some water, put dandelion flowers and oil in a mason jar, set the jar in the crockpot, and ran the crockpot on low for 24 hours without a lid. It works very well. Then I used the dandelion oil for salve. We love it.
Hi, thanks for sharing. I would like to comment on this process; essential oils are very sensitive to heat and most of them evaporate or degrade over 45-50 C degrees. If you boil them or even heat over 50 degrees, you do not have any essential oils in the mixture anymore. If you would like to give it a try, traditional way is to infuse without heating, just putting the buds and oil in a jar 4-6 weeks in a cool dark place, it will be a potent infused oil without degredation. Quicker way is to put the jar under sunlight, maybe in front of a kitchen window for a couple of days and then a week in a cool place, you will get also good results. Just be sure not more than a couple of days under direct sunlight, and never boil :)
Thank you to the original poster and to you, for the info on degrading oils in high temps. I am definitely going to try it with several of my garden herbs!
Good to know. What would the shelf life be after a successful infusion?
Thank you for the comment Sukleijn
I have 2 extremely large lavender shrubs in my backyard that I've had for over 15 years and they are still in very good shape and last year was the first year I actually harvested the lavender and made lavender oil, lavender soap, lavender wreath and lavender sachets. However I have never made the lavender oil by boiling. I just put it into a jar and added the olive oil and let it stand for a few weeks. But I am going to give your method a try. Thank you for sharing a great learning video.
Hi, how long did you store your lavender oils for before its ready to use? Thanks in advance
Do NOT boil it! It will ruin all the good properties of the lavender or any other plant or flower you're trying to infuse. That's why she moved it to the crock pot; her stoves heat was too strong. It should just be kept warm for 5-6 hours; and never get to a point where it starts to simmer.
@@aaaj1877 you can start to use it at week 2, but I prefer at least 21- 30 days.
Thank you. I used coconut oil that made an equally delightful aroma. I enjoyed your personality as well, you are a charming young lady which makes a good teacher.
Thank you very much. I have just harvested a lotta patchouli leaves from my garden and was searching for how to make the oil from it. Thanks a bunch :)
Thank you for this. I've been wanting to do a particular sage that I can't find anyone making that smells right!!! I don't have the budget for a $200 steam rig and wasn't wanting to spend that kind of money. I love this process and I'll be going TODAY to pick some wild white buffalo sage and making this! I have started making my own MCT beard oil, and this is perfect for the scent I want!!! A dash of clove and I'll have the scent I want! You're awesome!
How'd that work out? Is a steam rig supposed to be more effective?
Oh I love that you're making your own beard oil!! You just gave me ideas for my husband 🤗
@@consciousfreshness7677 people have had apothecarys way before modern day so it might be a easier way steaming it but I don't think it's much different.
Just wanna say thank you for sharing!, but the result is not called essential oil. Any carrier oil infused with herbs or plants is called an infused oil or herbal oil. Yours would be Lavender infused Avocado oil to be exact. This kind of oil might contain less than 1% essential oil from the plants.
Yes that’s what I was about to say. I wonder if it still have medicinal properties. Also you really want to have dried flowers as the moisture in the plant matter will turn the oil rancid in a matter of weeks
@@noahshort8514 Yes! The infused oil will also have medicinal properties! It's not only the essential oil in the plant that have medicial properties, there are properties that aren't carried over when steam-distilled, and they also have great properties. I'm not sure exactly what because I'm not an herbal expert, but at least the aroma is still a good "aroma"therapy eventhough it won't be as strong as the essential oil since it is more concentrated.
Thank you for your great ideas. I have some dried lavender that I use to make lavender simple syrup for drinks, and am going to try to make an infusion with it now. A little something something to make my weekly hot soak in the tub more enjoyable and relaxing!
@@noahshort8514 The moisture of the plants will disappear while cooking it. This is why I cook my Garlic oil. Afterwards it is stable to store without fridge. The problem is to ajust the heat, because you don´t want burn the plants or destroy the good cold pressed carier oil... So better don´t do it directly in a pot. Use a slow cooker or a jar inside of hot water. Watch the process closely. It is also not necessary to heat it for 6 hours. You can heat it for some minutes and then just let it sit in a jar for 2 days, than strain and filter it.

Thank you for the great information.
Im going to try roses this is my first time but i love the smell of fresh flowers and oils in my bath water wow so amazing. Thanks!
Hope you love it and have a great time! I love a good rose bath too!
I have just started growing herbs in my garden and have enjoyed watching your video! I look forward to saving my herbs for oils, not just to keep pest out of the garden. Thank you for showing us a inexpensive way to make oil for future use!
Essential oils are done through distillation. The proper term for this process is the “fast method” for an infusion. Typically one infuses oil from 4-6 weeks. You also need to explain the sanitation of your jar and lid. You cannot exchange the term essential oil with infused oil. They totally different processes.
Nice simple oil infusion video. It makes me want to start making my own.
Just bought an Enfusium 420 for infusions and a Vevor 50l Distiller for the essential oils themselves, seems pretty complex. Someone commented that heat can degradation quality, thank you for the tip. Anyone else use these two pieces if equipment? I haven't done it yet cause I'm trying to learn first. I have leukemia and am hoping my Italian oregano and rosemary can help with symptoms.
I didnt know you had to warm it i out frankensence and mherr in oil and just let it sit and its very aromatic even without cooking. Idk if i did it right but its super strong and effective. Brings ke oeace i cant wait to get lavender to be trying yoyr method it must smell amazing❤
Thank you for the bright idea..Godbless!
Thank for your tutorial I pruned all my lavender last week and through them in the garden and it’s funny I was thinking this should make good essential oil and to see you use them to draw out the aroma is just wow
I appreciate this video so much! Easy to do with available stuff we have at home! I just pruned a basil plant, peppermint plant and a rosemary plant so I’m about to give it a go! 🤗🤗
Beauty brain and education
Thanks
wow, thanks so much!
I do the same thing with my jars, I re-use the Kombucha dark bottles for making a homemade remedy. And the others for storing left overs instead of plastics. And the Jam jars can be re-used to make homemade jams.
Thank you so much..I just moved and have two huge lavender and a rosemary bush and didn't know what to do with them.
Definitely keeping this one on file!
Yesss so great and easy!! 👏
Yup!
Hi, i love this video its very helpful. I just want to know how long can the oil last for before the smell gets ruined because its all natural. Thankyou :)
I planted lavendar this year and I cannot wait to make this with my plant!
I love the fact that I can make my own infusions. I’ve so many herbs that I’m going to infuse. Thanks so much for this awesome video. ❤️
PS. Is there a shelf life for this process?
I am just now learning about making essential oils! How long is the shelf life?
Thank you for sharing!👍
Nice 🎉
Thanks for the video, ! We do lemongrass essential oil here in cameroon and we just start a rose essential oil project.
Wow ang galing!
This was so helpful I actually want to do a cucumber 🥒 essential oil for cleaning make my own cleaning products. Since I have been using dried cucumber peels to effectively get rid of bugs 🐛 🐜 naturally. I figured step up my game and use it for cleaning as well.
Can you please share how to use the cucumber for cleaning
Ur awesome! Im so excited to try this! We have jasmine that grows like crazy but only lasts a short time so I figure this will work great!
Great video. Thank you so much. I Loved EVERYTHING about your video and I truly appreciate you reminding us to not give up and be adaptable. Very great video.
Thanks Jen for this valuable video. I will try it tomorrow with dried rose and mint. Let's see how it will turn out. Regards from Canada.
Love it! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the video. I was just taking care of my plants as a decoration, now I'll add value to them and make use of their products . My question is, what makes the oil to be essential? I don't know the difference between ordinary oils and essential oils. Anyone please help
Thank you so much, I will be trying this.
You explained it so well thank you
I will be making oil from my peppermint for flea sprays and to keep bugs away and mice in the winter. I will be using sweet mint although I don’t know what to use it for
Hi, I love your video after you put your oil in jar do you refrigerate it, or put it on a shelf
Thanks a lot for sharing your videos. Now, I can make my own oils.
Take care and have a wonderful day.
🥰🥰
I'm planning on learning how to do this I'll use nettle and yellow dock herbs
Thank you for sharing. I have learn something help ful.
Oh this is suuuuper cool!!! I’ve never done an infusion for essential oils! Thanks for sharing this! Definitely going to try this out sometime! I bet your house smelled amazing too 🤗
Totally gonna try this soon!
mmmm yes girl was smelling soo good I had to edit out so many clips of me saying it smells so good hahahah cause I just kept saying it! let me know what you use to make your infusion!!
I'm trying to make my own oils this summer
This looks like a great thing to do. What about flowers: can you use gardenia, roses, etc? When do you pick those?
You gave me some good ideas. But, to you---the pan should be dedicated to that task as it will hold the scent/flavor if you plan to cook food in it. Also I am planning to simply get a small crock pot and let it simmer with leaves in it all day.
what temp do you try to keep it at? A induction cooktop would work great.
12:12! Magical number! Did you sleep really well that night? Smelling that would’ve put me out! Great video 💜
ugh, yessss so good!!
I’m impressed with the volume of yield in this process.
Have you considered adding pure ethanol to your separatory funnel ( 30ml ) and evaporating the ethanol off in a warm water bath? I’m thinking that this would increase the oil capture/yield.
im interested to hear more about this method if you wouldnt mind
@@monad3448 Hello! This is a method found in “Standard Methods” for water and Wastewater Analysis. It’s an N Hexane removal method. However, Hexane leaves a toxic residual, whereas Ethanol would not.
Thank you it was very helpful, I was looking at the distillation videos and it was way too much, this infusion process is so much easier and still very effective👍👍
Omg I love this video thank you for it super easier than the other videos I saw where you use a distillation! Do you have or if you dnt have a video already make one how we use this oil when making lotions or soaps ??? Pretty please !!
The most relaxing thing I know of is the salvation of Christ, I know even if I die that Heaven’s real & I’ll be with God for eternity! (He made essential oils for us. ♥️)
Thank you. Just getting into this.👍
I have done it,l like it ❤
Thank you for sharing. I live in Malaysia, hence I will try with lemon grass & mint for a start. Appreciate the process and I do like the idea of use the slow cooker !
Fabulous thanks. I'm making rosemary oil. Thanks
Thnx you for sharing
Btw that is the cutest crock pot eeeeveeeeer!!!!
Very amazing... I learned and will make my essential oil like this in my village.GBU sister.
thank you for your knowledge! I have so many lovely herbs to make oil with
I just bought 3 bundles of mint i want the cooling sensation in my hair oil. Will this way do that?
Thank You so simple!
Thank you so much for showing me how to make my own essential oils! I’ve been purchasing my essential oils for years but I love the idea of growing my own herbs (which I have) and making my own oils! Fantastic! I have one question...how long will essential oils last? Thank you again!!
infusions and essential oils are not the same thing. making essential oils requires a ton of special equipment.
Hello from PA thanks for the 🎥
Good video and your sweetness smile make it attractive,
Dear is hommade essential oil and market same quality?
thank you so much!! the oil infusion is not the same as a distilled essential oil but it works for many purposes and you can save the good stuff for other purposes!
LOTIONS would be good for this use?
Thank you! Amazing!!! 🙏🏻🕊
Thank you for sharing this with us
thank you for watching!
Good job 🙏🙏
thank you for watching!!
Wow , thank you so much ! Great video ,very helpful
Glad to hear it! Thanks for watching!
This is interesting and helpful. COULD you go with the crockpot to begin with?
Can you add this when making Candles? I am doing it with Rosemary right now.
Thank you so much! Question can I use sunflower oil?
Great video and super informative! Can we do anything with the rest of the plant? It has such an amazing aroma so why not use it ?
Can I do clary sage flowers this way as I have no distiller? Thank you, Helena
I'm going to try this! Thanks for the tips. (I'm a good hoarder too!) Look forward to more of your videos.
Hi! You’re amazing I love your plant 🪴 so beautiful 🤩 I’m trying to oil I just started thank you so much for sharing omg 😱 you’re the only one that makes sense for me this is so easy simple and you make so much better for us who are just starting! Thanks again. Right now I have mejorana plants rosemary, oregano, basil and mint🌿 I’m trying to find the lavender plants
I also have roses
Just watched you make this. Although I don't have a garden, I plan on trying this.
Hello, thank you for showing me making a DIY esential oil, i wish i could try to make. May i ask please, is it necessary to use crockpot since I don't have, any other option?
Thanks for this lovely video ,going to make some 🙏🏻❤
Thank you & what cute little crock pot 😊
Thank you for this video.
Now i know how to strain through cheesecloth.
How can she pick flowers and not rinse bugs and dust off and use it in main oil?
Was wondering cause all plants have bugs or aphids on them.
Can a crockpot be utilized from the beginning of the process? Thank you and I love this video. #FutureHerbalist
Thank you sooooo much! So helpful! You go girl!
Hi and thanks for a very informative video
Can I do this with my oranges from my garden?
Very nice ❤😊
Im thinking of making peppermint oil and doing it just like you said instead of lavender .....
Thanks for sharing. I would like to do the same with soursop leaves, is this something you’ve done before.
Thank you for this, love it! Blessings!
This is not essential oil. This is cooked oil dont comfused
Thank You for this
Thank you for simplifying it really well. Two questions: I have those same pots, and fear is not getting rid of the smell or residue in that pot set, which is what I use daily for our food. Do you also cook with these? Also, I want to do this with mint and picked the leaves instead of using stems-does that matter?
Thanks for watching Tara!! and subscribing 😍 that means the world to me!! I do cook with these pans for our regular cooking needs and I did not have any issues with residue/smell lingering on the pan! I wash with blue dawn dish soap and it takes away all that oil with no issues!! And you should be absolutely fine using your mint leaves!! make sure you let me know how it comes out ❤
Thank you for this! :)
Hey nice tut! I tried it and at first the smell was so cool i left it and it start boiling and didnt realized it and i fried my herbs.. 🤣🤣 Can you tell me the standar heat in celsius? I will finish the job in the oven.. thanks in advance!!!
You don´t need much heat at all. You will also destroy the nice benefits of avocado oil. In my area avocado oil is very expensive, like 16 bucks for 500 ml. I would never put it on a flame, afterwards it would have no benefits of this cold pressed gem.
Could you use orange blossoms using this method?
Great video! Loved it!
thanks so much for watching!
Would you say that rosemary flowers are stronger for scalp use than leaves?
If I follow your method, can I used for diffused? Thanks
Thank you for sharing? What brand is the digital scale that you have please?
Great video! Would this oil be as concentrated as a shop bought essential oil?
No. This is infused oil. Concentrated is essential oil.
@@StinkyDustyBird thanks
Great video!! Thank you for sharing!
so glad you enjoyed! thank you for watching!!
Can I add a drop of the essential oil into my water for drinking?
Vthank you so much for this
Thank you for sharing and subscribe done too🥰. I have questions, I just do my lemongrass essential oil. I do ground the lemongrass ( less 1 kg lemongrass and 2liter oil), and do double boil. My question is why I didn't smell strong lemongrass? Thanks for advance advice.
Try to boil lemongrass in water. Let it sit over night. You need much lemongrass and only few liquid. This works much better for me. With Oil I get nearly no result with this plant (The leaves are much stronger than leaves from Mint or basil).
Would these sorts of oils be safe to use for candles or is it going to still be very reactive to the flame?
