This still impresses me now, but when i first saw this dude playing in this video in 2009 ai was blown away. Im 35 and been drumming since i was 12 really admire Bobby. Spoke to him on youtube back then as well, really humble and awesome dude. Still my favourite drummer!
Bobby J is god-tier, humble and insanely creative. And even more respect for the guy for declining on participating that ridiculous "american idiot" DT audition.
+Ryan Lanigan Absolutely amazing, he is jut as impressive with either hand. My left hand is my strong hand, though lately I have been trading hands on the high hat and snare, I can do a one-handed roll with my right hand but, not my left....Yet. It's going to take awhile....
As a San Antonio resident, it's funny to say I've played at country music venues with bobby. He carries a big ole box of charts and nails every twangy, Shitty fucking country song you can think of. Most metal drummers super suck at country drums which requires incredible timing and consistency. But bobby kills it. Yee haw.
I'm from Ireland and have never been to the states. Yet, I know how big country music is in the USA. Do I agree with you then that country music requires perfect time keeping so!? In my own personal experience and research, YES! Infact, In Ireland I'm disappointed with how most of the other band musicians in Ireland who cover American country tunes fail to properly recreate the timing and groove of the state side original. I first realised the tempo standard of country drumming when I first tried playing along with the original track For this reason I went on to study this timing myself and respect itire and for this reason I think your comment above is a proper and serious tribute to this drummer in this video about his absolute abilities. To play devil's advocate, as a drummer I don't like his over cluttered and stilted time playing in this track. It's saturated and clustered. That said, it's your ent above that rinds me of what I appreciateost about his playing. His amazing time keeping and his joyful inventive musicality. Forget my criticism, you point out whatakes him great beyond all opinions
This guy is just ridiculous. Ive seen a lot of good drummers Minnemann, Donati, Lang, Mangini, and the rest but this guy cannot be matched in terms of power and precision, whilst putting on a outrageous visual display in his fills. He must be in the top ten drummers world wide. a truly unrated drummer
His skill is not just in his power and precision (which he has in spades), but definitely his master over complicated rhythms and polyrhythms. And I love the way he just digs into the cymbals!
My favorite is the part from 3:45 (love the snare pattern on certain parts) through to the way Bobby and the song go back into the main riff, so awesome and something so rarely fresh for our musical palettes, awesome song
Only heard about him recently by listening to Demons and Wizards but since then got Spastic Ink and now watching this has blown my mind seriously incredible drummer, can't think of any to match
this is incredible...I've been a drummer for 38 years absolutely incredible...but not mainstream...not gonna fill up any dance floors!!! not gonna be a mainstream hit with anyone!!!! but absolutely great drumming!!!
SON OF A BITCH?!?! Those cymbal mutes, that aggression, the fucking precision. This guy proves a lot of points I try to make when arguing over drumming. Thats what it fucking sounds and looks like when this music is played with heart and muscle.
@Dieterbe I axed that quechion myself, following this man's Career in Spastic Ink and Riot, I'd say he's the man for the Job. Bobby and Mike started in music pretty much the same time, but Bobby Jarzombek is definitely the most underrated drummer. An ambidexterious complex madman! Not slow, not fast, but fulfilled. There isn't a drumming gap on this DVD/VHS (I have the VHS :) )
No matter how many times I watch this vid, I never seem to see what the heck he's actually hitting. I finished the guitar tab ages ago but the drums... no way :)
Tell you what...I thought Portnoy and Peart and some others were hot. Even Virgil Donati. Did not know about this guy. D*mn. My good gugga mugga!!!! He rocks. Great hand technique. Creative with cymbal placement. and fills. Wowwwww. Can't even begin to touch the kick technique. Yes. He is worthy...
@Megawatt Yea, riding with his left hand is a dead giveaway, but he also starts his double bass on his left foot, and many of his fills start on the left hand. Not too uncommon that he's playing a righty setup, that's how I and most people learned.
@godlydrmr I think he started off as a righty then changed over to playing with the left. I watched some really old vids of him somewhere, where he plays right handed. Peace
Bobby wouldn't do that? If he had a chance to be in DT and was told that he had to, he would do it. What makes you think he's too prideful? DT is much bigger than any one drummer. I guarentee Mangini was happy to oblige and is very happy to be there. Besides, have you seen Bobby's Arch/Matheos videos? Holy shit!
@Megawatt I don't think it's the fact that he's a lefty. I think I remember hearing him say that he plays open-handed, so he can start with his left hand and play ride with either right or left.
Bobby wouldn't enter a band that doesn't let drummers write the drumming. It was said in an interview with John Arch and Jim Matheos by I think John, that he spent lots of time writing the drumming parts for the songs, in order to make it complement the music perfectly. I have seen his videos, he's a monster. I really can't see him coping with something as stupid as Petrucci giving him already written drum parts for him to sound like Portnoy.
@godlydrmr: Yeah... I'm a lefty, and I've been playing open-handed for about 4 years now... >_> But I lead with my right hand (and foot) though.... a bit weird.
Thanks for putting that in a way people can understand. Portnoy was more than just a drummer in DT and while Mangini may play in a similar way, I can't see him doing the rest of what Portnoy did. And comparing Jarzombek to Portnoy is like comparing a Lamborghini to the Mona Lisa.
Noone can stop youtubers from rooting for their favorite drummers/guiatrist/etc. All names cited here are part of the best, the rest is mostly a matter of taste. I am a big fan of DT and Portnoy, but there's noone I enjoy watching play more than Bobby. Seriously, his parts are so interesting, technical, and the level you have to be at to play this just seems subhuman. I find Mark Zonder probalby more stylish, but not as impressive to watch
This song is just recorded for this instructional DVD ( ua-cam.com/video/wUmhAlFTcDU/v-deo.html ), might also have been planned for other releases. Guitar is played by his brother Ron Jarzombek, probably the most underrated guitarist in the world. There are other tracks on this DVD, one called 'Peppered Cancer' was used on a record of their project Spastik Ink. I think it was used as bonus for the Japanese release, don't count me on that.
I'm just going to take a moment and brag... Met him last night and talked to him for a good hour or two. Nicest guy ever and ridiculously talented!
Man those bass drums sound incredible
This still impresses me now, but when i first saw this dude playing in this video in 2009 ai was blown away. Im 35 and been drumming since i was 12 really admire Bobby. Spoke to him on youtube back then as well, really humble and awesome dude. Still my favourite drummer!
INCREDIBLE MOMENT FROM 0.00 TO 5.11
Amazing! One of my favorite drumming songs of all time! Been following BJ for a long time & his brother.
Cheers! :)
Bobby J is god-tier, humble and insanely creative.
And even more respect for the guy for declining on participating that ridiculous "american idiot" DT audition.
3:51 and on where he's changing hands and slowly increasing those snare hits. that bass drum walking underneath it all ftw. nice.
+Ryan Lanigan Absolutely amazing, he is jut as impressive with either hand. My left hand is my strong hand, though lately I have been trading hands on the high hat and snare, I can do a one-handed roll with my right hand but, not my left....Yet. It's going to take awhile....
3:22 that build is absolutely unhuman!!! it leaves me speachless every fuckling time!! what a drummer!!
How come I never heard of this guy o.O He's litteraly the best drummer I've seen in my life...and I've seen some pretty sick drummers
Superhuman level. At the end, he tries to say "Hello you being from the Earth", hahaha.
One of my first youtube videos, come back every now and then to feel the BLAST
siiiiick! im a guitar player and i love watching thisguy play....his brother is no slouch on the guitar either.
One of the baddest.... OF ALL TIME!
Love when he hits the crashes behind him. Looks so cool.
I was introduced to a kind of drumming I wasn't aware of it existence! =o fucking hell!

Cymbals are Students
Silenced When Necessary
Hence, the title: "School".
I am talking solely in terms of creativity & awesomeness; This guy is like the next Danny Carey.....wow
His skill is not just in his power and precision (which he has in spades), but definitely his master over complicated rhythms and polyrhythms.
And I love the way he just digs into the cymbals!

hell yeah it's incredible just saw him with Fates Warning and he's a beast
I'm a new fan! One of the most amazing drummers out there. I love the music! Thank you for putting this piece up on youtube! =)
@kdegner1984
I thought he was a righty and played open handed, or leading with his left. He's completely ambidextrous.
This remind me of the kind of song you'd find in a snowboard movie bail section during the late 90's
Should have entitled this as “schooled “..........genius !
the funniest thing is that his brother is equally good on guitar
They played together in their band called Spastic Ink
TOTALLY IMPRESSED!
George straight is blessed.
Only heard about him recently by listening to Demons and Wizards but since then got Spastic Ink and now watching this has blown my mind
seriously incredible drummer, can't think of any to match
You Man and Randy black are the best . greating from morocco
Under rated drummer
he is the master of time!
this is incredible...I've been a drummer for 38 years absolutely incredible...but not mainstream...not gonna fill up any dance floors!!! not gonna be a mainstream hit with anyone!!!! but absolutely great drumming!!!
thats is SICK!
INSANE !!!
who the fuck would give this thumbs down?!?sickest shit ever
AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your a God!!! Bobby
music in the 21st century as it should be...
Very nice.
SON OF A BITCH?!?! Those cymbal mutes, that aggression, the fucking precision. This guy proves a lot of points I try to make when arguing over drumming. Thats what it fucking sounds and looks like when this music is played with heart and muscle.
god damn,he is my idol
@Dieterbe I axed that quechion myself, following this man's Career in Spastic Ink and Riot, I'd say he's the man for the Job. Finally i found a drummer like Portnoy level!!
AWESOME
The beginning up to about 1:18 is definitely my favorite part .. sooo sick.
Tell you what...I thought Portnoy and Peart and some others were hot. Even Virgil Donati. Did not know about this guy. D*mn. My good gugga mugga!!!! He rocks. Great hand technique. Creative with cymbal placement. and fills. Wowwwww. Can't even begin to touch the kick technique. Yes. He is worthy...

2:43 this is a chance very technical and freak!!! I like it
I like the metric modulation tease at 2:45
AAAH! Bobby just waved at me!!
@VantageX4 It's because hella people think Jarzombek is gonna be the next Dream Theater drummer. That's pretty much it.
You could see if it's on any of his cds
Start 1:48 ..i love that part.
3:45 Fucking amazing
HOLY FUCKIN SHIT !
Bobby Jarzombek: Drum Ninja.
My God....
@Megawatt he plays open form - buy his dvd techniques dvd off ebay prolly 10$ and its amazing
Vist # 10.000
@godlydrmr I think he started off as a righty then changed over to playing with the left. I watched some really old vids of him somewhere, where he plays right handed.
Peace
Moster

@godlydrmr lol... yeah
i like Marco
@GarciaNeli Esa transición de tiempo que él hace del minuto 4:04 al minuto 4:09 la hace perfectamente en tiempo, quizas no has entedido la transición.

When I saw that cymbal I thought he was crazy

But I lead with my right hand (and foot) though.... a bit weird.

1:48 how do you quantify that. fast thinkin
@emilioktalmetal
Correct. How about that, eh? Maybe we should all be arguing over which brother is "more talented".
2:50-4:10...who does that ?
This sounds like metal slug music.
is this song anywhere else then on his dvd???
easy stuff indeed.......hahaahaha BOBBY RULES ! yo uare the fuckin king man !
I´d say more...it takes ALL drummers there
@Megawatt I'm voting for Bobby, just 'cause us lefty drummers have to stay together haha
2024 under rated ?
Yes
Oh yes!
@nengstro lol... Yeah... sure...
Holy shit Dream Theater should get this guy!
Though, he decided to not join them. 💁🏻♂️
lawl i tried for so long to grab my cymbals after hitting them for ages after watching this......i just hurt my hands

This shit is unreal
@Masterrese seriously? Why is Bobby not mentioned at all in the audition videos?
Personally I would love to see footage of Bobby audtioning for DT.
@mtabet02 Easy - Mike Mangini
@godlydrmr
Is he a lefty? Hard to tell when he's hitting the snare with both hands like it's nobody's business.
@Easleytee why?
@stringnerd
they have a few albums together dude.
Maybe not Virgil Donati, but he's more kind of an alien than a drummer.
@GarciaNeli No, para nada, asi es el ritmo!!!
@hvbasswltrv not in those two cd
This song is from which band and album? Where can I hear more?

Portnoy is commerce and poseur ;)
He's playing on spastin ink :)
Why?
