This is about as feature-rich as gaming keyboards get at this point. Also it looks ballin' in the dark (which, let's face it, is where most of us gamers spend the majority of our time...)
Great keyboard. I wish you could tell corsair to start making these types of keyboards again.
I bought this keyboard a few days ago, and this is the best quality keyboard out there. i have nothing negative to say about this keyboard, the light looks great, the buttons is very responsive and fast, feels good to type. The armrest feels good and what i also love is that you can change the sound volume from your keyboard, which is very useful if you're playing a game or watching a video fullscreen. You also have plenty of useful macro keys on the left side of keyboard!
I received my Corsair Vengeance K90 last friday, and im completely satisfied!! I love it!
Gret build quality, individual backlight, nice media controls + +
I replaced a two year old Razer Lycosa.
LOL 6:26 WTF!!!
MYAH. MYAH. QUITE NICE.
I didn't even notice this the first time, but it's hilarious.
+Harvey Ching
What are you talking about? I see nothing even at .25 speed.
You cannot disagree to that this is a very elegant board of keys. Time passes and yet, one of the best looking keyboards out there.
except i think they shouldve made the macros membrane instead of rubberdome
Wow, that back light looks really good on that keyboard. If my Lycosa ever breaks or stops working im going with one of these for my new gaming keyboard.
Still using this keyboard after 10 years no problem at all.
I still use it
I was waiting for this for sooo long!
Love it ! Seems indestructible and lighting is very "trony" !
Doing some basic upgrades for my computer this summer and was originally going for a Razer brand keyboard of some sort but I think this video may have changed me. I have my heart set on a new K90 in the next few months!
Mine arrived today =3
Thank you Linus for steering me to this
got mine on friday, I absolutely love this keyboard
I went to go look at this and other mechanical keyboards at my local PC store and quite frankly, the idea of some keys being none mechanical sounds stupid and sure enough a good amount of the keys felt like shit. So, I went with the Razer Blackwidow - typing on it now - and I can tell you this thing is amazing. AMAZING
I have a G15 I was tempted to get the G19 but in all honesty I never ever EVER use the lcd screen, I think this keyboard with it's backlit and mechanical features makes it worth the upgrade...
thank you very much for unboxing this Linus. much appreciated :)
Damn, keyboards have come a long way.
Also, so did Linus. lol
I'm pretty sure that my sony keyboard that came with a vaio computer purchased a few years back is the best keyboard ever made.
Thanks Linus i'm getting this keyboard thanks to your review awesome mechanical keyboard
@DarknessKingCoH Thats oddly disturbing, but thank you for the reply. I'll do that more often now and see if I notice an improvement.
linus has the same t-shirt in the k95 unboxing! :D
I noticed that as well probably on purpose.
@avinkris7 He works for NCIX so he would most likely get a lot of the stuff from the company to display it for advertising so they would get money from UA-cam for the views and money from sales making it worth it, They would probably even still get money for selling the keyboard as a open box product on a large discount. But he does also review things he buys for himself.
Im typing with this bad boy right now. I love it! best look and feel ever
Havent seen a single keyboard since the K90 to have this many macro keys built into it. Really wish someone else would, even if it were half the amount of keys.
2020 I'm still on K90 the 2011 model still no issues!
@KrakPoT13
these keys are rediculously easy to type on, they trigger after 2-4 mm afaik
Very informative video. Thanks for making this!

-Sent from my Corsair K95 RGB with 18 macro keys with custom macros
this or the BlackWidow Ultimate. I would be mostly gaming but also some moderate amounts of typing, the price does not matter.
You made a good decision sir! The Logitech G510 felt really plastic-y and cheap.
Yeah, get the K70, unless you want the macro keys, which I have never used on my G110 Logitech.
The reason for that is cost, Linus. They simply wanted to price it more competitively on the crowded gaming market.
I wish this was all black instead of the aluminium... I still may buy it though
04:25 it could cause serious injury because if you typed with your hands bent (such as resting your palms over your keyboards that do NOT have palmrests, that's why I prefer keyboards with palrests because I'm really used to my laptop's one) it could wear out and eventually rip your nerves that control your hand(s) which is called carpal tunnel syndrome, and trust me, you don't want that to happen to you after what I heard you had to go through if that happens.
I don't think anyone uses PG Up and PG Down anymore.
that's what I'm talking about man. New shirt!!! yayy!
@oli3659 they print the letters on the front of the keys. looks very slick as when you view it on the top, it looks like they are blank key caps
Great review
@himmelsturmerIX I don't own one yet, so I wouldn't be able to help him out. Sorry for leaving it out. I just have experience with the Das, HHKB, and the Filco. All great keyboards. The HHKB is by far my favorite...and priciest.
You're failing to understand. My mouse CANNOT change color either. I am using the Razer Deathadder. But what's so hard about taking the mouse apart, removing the LEDs from the circuit board, and soldering an LED of another color back on?
Try the Ducky 9008s shine mechanical keyboard, It's even better .
You guys should like soo totally get some dvorak keyboards in stock :D, and then do an unboxing :D
I don't believe so, but both of them allows for 20 key rollover instead of 6 key rollover, and it allows for a full speed USB port on the back of the keyboard.
I just bought one tonight, will get it by the weekend. If you inbox me I'll tell you when I get it.
My main requirements are back lighting, good quality, mechanical (red or brown I suppose preferred) and something like laser etched key printing or something similar so the keys never smudge.
If companies are going to bother putting LED's under every key, why not go the extra mile and make them customizeable? It's a small issue, but I'm rather bothered by the fact that my desk currently looks like a B-grade display of multi-color Christmas lights because my mouse has red LED's, my keyboard has blue LED's and my keypad has green LED's. I just want to set them all to the same color so that my desk doesn't look like the Las Vegas strip. every time I boot up my PC.
I was going to get the Logitech 510 until I decided I should get a mechanical keyboard instead. Was going to get the Black Widow, but found this and I'm sure on it.
I spill far to many drinks over my keyboard to treat myself to one of these...
black widow ultimate from razer doesn't have a wrist rest...very dissapointed...lucky my logitech g15 came with one it sorta fit in with it..
My Majestouch 2 brown switches layes under our Chrismas tree.
Hahaha turn on google captions and see 6:40: "that sounds like the penis even in the presence" lollllllllllllllllllllllzzzzzzzzz
Sooooo Linus checking in 11 years later - I need that wrist rest as daily usage finally got the better of it - do you still have that bad boy I could buy from you? 😛
Dear Corsair, Not everyone likes blue. -Potential Buyer
I can't remember anyone asking for the K90 unboxing... However I can see alot of "We want watercooling part 2"
why do all these keyboards have big (high/thick) keys?? i love my thin keys, much faster for me.
Yet none of the keys you used to type that reply are the ones without mechanical switches on the K90, so the net gain you've experienced thus far is zero.
I really don't see why this bothers people so much. Do you really hit Page Up as much as E?
I'd rather pay less by having practically unused keys (by comparison) not use expensive switches than pay a premium for my once a year use of Scroll Lock to be enhanced with a nice Cherry MX Red.
I love this keyboard. It's be best deal for what's provided for price. Its easy to clean, offers great media keys on the side, volume adjuster is a roller, pure genius. The lighting is bright, but not to the point of being annoying or distracting..Its easy to type on and after about a week, I was able to see a 40% in my typing speed.
A very important feature is that they keys aren't compressed to one another. Some keyboards h ave keys that set to close to each other and it made typing bad.
My commodore keyboard had 64k of memory... just sayin....
Hey Linus can I just ask what is the best fps gaming keyboard , best fps gaming mousepad , best gaming headset and best claw grip gaming mouse
I gave every single mechanical keyboard that offers back light a test, I thought the Razer had a great sound, but the K90 just offers more. And the most important keys that are for typing are mechanical, and most importantly, it offers switches to adjust media and lighting.
Step 1: NEVER light from behind or directly in front. Only light from the sides.
Step 2: Make sure you avoid over exposure, and also be sure to keep it even.
Step 3: Use a proper balance of warm lighting and cool lighting.
Step 4: Find some way, Mechanical or Otherwise, to stabilize your video.
How would the light travel through if it wasn't etched? It wont come through paint :)
haha, my G15 is broken at the excact same spots, unless.... I still use mine
Lol, the case for this keyboard looks like the case for the vengeance ram :D
Are simple concepts too much for you? He wants the keys too be both unresponsive and stationary.
Any idea of when it is predicted to me launched? Hoping to do most of my ordering in June which is only a few months away :p
If it's still under a 2 year warrenty, They will replace the whole keyboard for you if the LED has failed ;)
mechanical keyboards becoming mainstream is all thanks to geekhack
No, wait until the Corsair K95 comes out. ALL of the keys will be MECHANICAL on the K95.
The thing that turned me off the m60 was the big red button :(
It just doesn't look nice :(
Yup, great keyboard. Been using the macro keys quite a lot and the lighting is sexy
The fact you can save the macro profile to the keyboard and have it operate through hardware playback instead of software eliminates any compatibility issues. Since some games wont play it back through the software alone.
In reply to someone else yes it is quite loud but the keyboard isn't really at fault for that, it's me pressing to hard always bottoming out the keys, making them hit the metal back-plate.
Of course I don't hit Page Up as much as E or anything else in the QWERTY bunch but, I use the F keys a lot in games and they're not mechanical here, something that would annoy me after time but that's just me I suppose/
There are so many macro keys on the side, which is great but they're not mechanical so, once again, going from WASD or whatever to a non mechanical key is not gonna be all that fun is it?
However, I would have loved a wrist rest for my BlackWidow for sure
I guess that would come to down to whether or not you are looking for a mech keyboard over a rubber-dome, the sidewinder x4 is a really good deal for what it offers. Me personally I think this keyboard is worth what it's priced. If the K60 would have had backlighting I would have easily taken that over this keyboard though. This keyboard feels like it's built extremely well, very solid and heavy for a keyboard.
I used the media keys a lot on my sidewinder x4 and it's throwing me off a bit on this keyboard since they are in a different position and ordering, yet again just another thing to get used to. This keyboard feels very well built and is just a joy to type on. Only thing I'm noticing rtight now that I can complain about is that on the non-mechanical keys (G, Prnt scrn etc.) the light doesn't seem to shine through quite as bright.
Just got the keyboard and am typing on it right now, I can easily tell that I will be able to type faster on this than my old keyboard. Going from a sidewinder x4 to this is going to take some getting used to though that's for sure. The keyboard lights up extremely well in the day light so I can't wait to see it at night. Typing feels much different than a traditional rubber dome (obv. since it's mech), but in a good way. The keys being raised up is going to take some getting used to also.
yea indeed, actually the only thing about the K90 and the G19 is that the G19 has a little lcd screen, and why would you need that? i'd rather buy a keyboard that functions good then buying a keyboard that has an lcd screen but functions a little less. Corsair and Logitech are both great brands but corsair is better in designing and quality then logitech. although that's my opinion ;)
I have a razer blackwidow stealth, I think I just found my replacement. I guess if its good enough for Maximum pc dream machine 2012, it might be worth it ha. I love the idea of seperate media keys so pause/next song doesn't require hitting a function key. Also having the separate height for the hot keys looks like a really good idea. I love corsair's products. My whole computer system seems to be getting more and more items from this company.
Gotta say, this is a good keyboard over all, all you need for gaming, typing general use.
The biggest let down of this keyboard, SOFTWARE. Compare to the Razor Blackwidow Ultimate the software by Corsair, is.. just simply not up to standard... the firmware of this keyboard is still in beta! Corsair could simply enhance this wonderful keyboard even more, with a matching Software. Great review by Linus!
@Ryuuken24 No doubt brands copy each other, just look at microsoft copying apple software lol. Or any other brand for that matter. I don't mind that however if they make the products better. I do think that this is a good keyboard, I prefer the k60 though which I own. I don't care much for backlighting, I still think it's a gimmick, and so are 18 macro keys... As for mechanical keyboards being overpriced, sure they are, but so is most other stuff. I think mechanical keyboards are worth it.
@PCEnergyMonkeys yes they are, the camera makes it look like if there not cuss its focusing on the brighter light, camera works differ from your eyes, they dont need to be since i only look at keys to type words, not when playing BF3, in BF3 i simply go from memory, having to look down would degrade my performance(not that i only play BF3 but you get my point)
final summation, there light but dimer, you can still see them with your eyes, but not with a camera
@Malius1000 I'm pretty sure companies copy each others products, and corsair does it best, of them all, keyboard illumination started with one keyboard, it was actually criticized by reviewers, who thought it to be a "gimmick", with no future, a couple years later, boom, it's very popular. Mechanical keyboard, the old types, before they started using plastic for everything, they're great, but they didn't cost 150 dollars back then, why should they cost it now?
@shawnspeed3 It sounds like DoNotTouchWillie has a generic PS/2 keyboard. The benefit of those: no need for drivers. I'm in that boat too: as long as the layout is exactly how I like it (like Linus says: proper backspace, proper shift, etc.), then it can be as generic as they come and it'll work fine provided the PC supports PS/2 (or if you buy a PS/2 to USB signal converter cable).
Screw these $130 keyboards. I have a $9 value PS/2 keyboard. The keys aren't "laser etched" yet every key looks identical to the day I got it. It has been used for at least 9 hours a day, every day, for 11 years straight. Every key is perfect -- nothing wobbly, loose, or broken. The feet used to angle it are still properly intact, and if it weren't for a bit of dirt from years of fingerprint oils, it could pass as brand new. I can game very well with it, too. In short: don't waste your money.
Putting the macro keys on a lower plane is a rather pointless idea. Yes I have encountered that problem but then again you only need a couple of days to get familiar with the keyboard. My guess is that they did it so that they can offer it at a cheaper price point. If this keyboard was all mechanical it would cost twice the amount of a back-lit keyboard due to the number of keys.
I'm just going to jump into this, but I'm going to buy the Corsair peripherals because they have all the features that I need. I also really like the look of them, and they are definitely not junk. From reading this conversation you are sounding slightly famboyish in the way you attack corsair. I just really like the look of the products... :l
You're failing to understand. My mouse CANNOT change color. It's LED's are always red. My keyboard is ALWAYS blue and my keypad is ALWAYS green.
If I could fix the issue myself I would have taken care of it when I got the stuff.
Try to think your comments through some more before you hit the "post" button.
The macro keys have a white back light. The brightness of the blue LEDs kinda drowns out the light. The ESC+Function+ the 9 keys above the arrowkeys are not back lit. Very nice keyboard, but the non mechanical keys bother me sometimes, good think that Corsair will send me a K95 because my K90 came with broken LEDs(twice).
Guys lay off this keyboard, not worth it... hear me out:
The software for this keyboard is TERRIBLE.
LED died on one of my keys.
Laser Etching?.... Try to scratch the paint on the keys off, and you'll understand the real meaning of Laser Etching.
The keys feel wobbly, which means they MOVE vertically( Great for gaming accuracy).
Just bought myself this keyboard and really hoping it'll be good, was on sale at NCIX so I jumped on it. My sidewinder x4 has been a kick ass keyboard but i've been wanting to try a mechanical one for a long time now and this looks like a really nice keyboard. I'll let you all know how it is when I get it!
The big question the k90 or ROCCAT Isku?
-Isku had more profile options and marco options with the option to add apps to the marco keys.
-K90 has mech keys brighter back light, less profiles can't assign apps to the marco keys.
I can not make my mind up, also never had luck with Razors quality, so they are a no go.
corsair has had a quality control issue for a few years... HOWEVER they are very good about warranty and it sucks you have to use it but at least they shouldnt give you any trouble even if you somehow manage to get multiple keyboards back with dead leds. Hopefully they fix the quality control soon on their products but till then customer service has our backs ^_^
STAY AWAY FORM BROWN. i have the razer blackwidow ultimate stealth and it is so shit for gaming, but its good for typing
the amount of force it takes to get a key down takes so much time that you cant quickly repress because of the stiffness. being a gamer you want to be able to press ANY key at ANY speed AS MANY times as required for the game.
@RememberOmaha
I just get the feeling that the louder "tak" of each type would signify a harder mechanism on the fingers than a soft "thump" of dome keys. That's how I understand it.
But all my friends say that no... I'm wrong. Mechanicals are better for your fingers, even though I don't understand why.
@GIMPMan1972 Yeah, although I suppose you get what you pay for, really. I plan to spend a lot on the rest of my system anyway, so I'd rather not skimp on the peripherals, so I may get this keyboard, but I do agree that it is a lot of money for something that really doesn't affect your system's performance directly.
@Ryuuken24 Corsair is the only brand in the universe to combine high quality mechanical keys with other features like macros, dedicated media keys and backlighting. They are the revolution in high end computing. They are the only brand take aggressive styling and features to the next level of quality. They are the pioneers in this industry and you call them fake copiers... lawl
@Vinzaf Nuts? How am I being "nuts"? If you don't agree with what I said, that only means you have bought unnecessary pc parts, which today are in a box down your cellar, it's that simple. And Logitech did it first, and does it best, you wanna argue, you better grab a shotgun and break into Corsair, I bet you'll have a good fight against their infiltrating ninjas!
@crumbworks
Its meant for games and people who play call of duty or counter strike on a computer, like myself, need the ability of pressing at least six keys at once and occasionally seven, and I'm not even a Star Craft player. However, yes, simultaneously pressing twenty keys is unnecessary but the fact that its capable of that is appealing and knowing there is no limitation.
Please don't be afraid to say the negative parts I know it is commercial BUT still.
Like uer videos allot. But i still miss you to be more well non commercial.
Thes feel like you joust want to sell ( Well i know you want too ). Still be real and don't be a-fried to tell what you really mean.
SRY. for my bad English.
tell what you
Hey, does anybody else get like a crap build up on their keyboard? Usually when I'm gaming on my laptop it gets pretty warm, cue palm sweat, then after a while the laptop and keyboard get kinda sweaty and after like... a couple weeks of this, theres like this crap built up on it. Just wondering if it happens to anyone else and if theres a way to stop it from happening :/
@avinkris7
no he works at ncix ;p, they give him stuff to unbox
It would be the best keyboard... if all keys were mechanical. Even Linus himself talks alot about how big the difference between membrane and mechanical keyswitches is, i just feel that that difference will bug me all the time, since i'd have both on the same keyboard.
