Spent my entire life on the "Government approved" low fat, low sodium diet, excercised, etc. STILL had a heart attack! I've gone Keto since and have NEVER felt better. I'm angry that I've been lied to for profit my entire life.
You could get a heart attack on any diet, almost anything could damage your arteries. That said, plant toxins and sugar are AWFUL for your arteries, particularly glucose and fructose and oxalates

I am a believer that different people can or can not eat everything. One needs to keep a diary of foods that give you issues. Then base your diet on quality foods. Mostly true organic or from your own garden. Local ranched meats on grassing less stressed animals. I know this cost more but you don’t need to eat as much to feel the benefits of quality food. Then if you are missing certain minerals or elements in your diet you can take supplements. I also believe in fermented foods. Your gut may need these foods especially if you can not afford or find quality foods. Plus water and limit your sugar intake. We don’t need to eat 3 meals etc a day. Your body will tell you when you are hungry so listen to it don’t get hooked on anyone’s hype.
I started a strict carnivore diet on August 7th 2023 and I lost 71 pounds in just over 128 days, eating one meal a day of beef and butter. I only drank water, nothing else! No caffine, no pop, no coffee, no tea, no energy drinks, no alcohol, nothing! I'm no longer pre-diabetic, no longer have high blood pressure, no longer morbidly obese, no longer have carpal tunnel syndrome, no more sleep apnea, no longer have acid reflux and I feel like I'm in my 20's again! After about 2 weeks, my carb/sugar cravings disappeared! Zero cheating! The most eye opening change was that I actually crave meat and nothing else! Carnivore 4 life baby!❤
I've been on the carnivore for a month, eating nothing but chocolate glaze steaks with a diet coke but I'm still overweight and my tendons are still inflamed...so I call carnivore BS!!!!!!!😢
I suffered from man boobs and love handles for 15 years. I'm 34. I tried vegan, raw vegan, and vegetarian. All it did was make me skinny fat with tits and love handles. I switched to the carnivore diet and lost 40 pounds in 3 months. I lost my man boobs and love handles. I maintained all my muscle, maybe even gained muscle. I did no exercise. Just ate butter, meat, eggs, a little cheese, and olive oil. That's it.
Congratulations to you . Bless you . I am now doing it as well and feel much better. My shopping bill went down a lot when I got rid of so many things which I once thought were good for me. Now i still get sugar highs when I eat some fruit . That upsets me as I like berries. I will slowly win over more time. Going good already .
On carnivore diet In 14 months I’m completely healed of Severe chronic migraines and fatigue I was almost 2 years bedbound and only 49 I have more energy than I did when I was in my 20s and no more medicine no more pain no more migraines I’m Back at work ❤
I started carnivore 11 months ago to try and improve my health. My ulcerative colitis/IBS gone after 20 years. Chronic headaches gone, joint pain gone, gaining muscle. I'm 57 and in the best shape of my life.
Truth is not American we know that. Show me the proof! There is not one scientific study ever that proves meat equates to muscle. That my friend is ignorance!@@conquistadorchevalier6687

I am sure his opinion has nothing to do with the megaspecial hypermagical olive oil he sells for a mere $40 per 8.6 fluid ounce bottle. I mean that would be unethical.... oh wait.
When I’ve tried to listen to Gundry in the past I just get the feeling he’s talking down to me. He talks slow to the point I interpret what he’s thinking as “if I talk slow enough these little people will understand me better. I really like Dr. Westman’s manner and common sense.
It's possible that Gundry is talking down to his audience because he thinks many of them aren't that smart. Or it could be that Gundry simply talks slow because he really does think that slow. Maybe that is the speed of neurocognition on Gundry's diet.
Yes, I fell for the Gundry clickbait years ago. Bought his book and supplements. Lectin Shield, lol 😂 Stopped that nonsense years ago. Now carnivore for 18 months! Never felt better in my life!
15 years back i knew so little i could fell for his half truths. After school i was interested in weight training witch food and diet are synonymous. Lucky for me i stubbled on Weston Price so i stop eating seed oil and was on right course with bone broth and organ meats. Add some minerals mainly magnesium, zinc, potassium if needed. Train like strong men and loose some weight. But what i lost on somewhat conventional diet with heavy training i make same or even better progres on keto/carnivore and without any extra exercise. Heartburn, joint pain and food coma are all gone.
My daughter was also on the meat based formula, in 1960 at the air force base in Denver CO. She could not process the regular formula and was vomiting everything and severely constipated, very pale, and in terrible pain until the Doctor on Base gave her the meat based formula. It was miraculous! In a short time she was no longer in pain, constipated, pale or vomiting!
@@tkat6442 quite simply, I started intimate dieting to lose weight. From Dr Fung went keto as it made it easier. Lost weight and getting better but was still having incredible stomach pains regularly. Found Gundry saying it was lectins for leaky gut tried what he said but when I saw Dr. Chaffee, Jordon Peterson and Kelly Hogan saying she had been on it for 13 years. I decided Gundry was right but it’s better simply to not eat vegetables
Me too because I ate too many carbs on his program and was diagnosed as type 2 diabetic. Went keto under 20 carbs a day and got off medication for diabeties. Now am carnivore and doing even better!
Funny that none of you is doing the work looking into the research findings but you are all super fast at claiming "falsehood"! Get only 0,1% of the knowledge and credibility of a Dr. Gundry before making any claims 🤦🏽♂️
@@eu-neuwagen4024With respect, many of us HAVE put in the work, which is why we can spot the problems in his assertions. Further, I recall Gundry's early high-pressure videos where he dangled carrots of "knowledge" and "secrets to be revealed" plus big doses of fear. You had to watch through to the end of the video until you were fully invested in getting the secret (by spending the time watching) - i.e., he was REALLY into classic sales pressure techniques. It was a red warning light. And sure enough, he didn't disappoint. Big "buy" pitch at the end. And that's quite apart from the bull. He did put lectins on the map, he should get credit for that. But he's gone feral. A pity.
Carnivore Diet is the only thing that helped me get out of 10 months of agony after many doctors and specialists couldn't tell me what was going wrong with my body.
Sounds like you had a severe food sensitivity or allergy. Have you tried introducing other foods slowly to see how you feel? Carnivore increases potential for nutrient deficiencies.
Judging from Dr. Gundry’s waistline, it would appear he follows his own advice. After learning about you and “page 4,” I went keto and lost over 100 lbs., without exercise, in a year, got off four medications and feel the best I ever have. I’m so convinced by what I have learned from you and others that I am on the precipice of full on carnivore and am excited about my future because of this awakening. We have been lied to our entire lives so people could make money and wrest power from us. Thank you, Dr. Westman, for helping us see through the facade, and thank you for getting me started on this path.
Dr. Gundry has lost a lot of weight. He does make some very interesting points. I remember thinking he was nuts when I received a video saying your veggies are killing you! Of course all the ones he was talking about are my favorite. Now I really do wonder if he is correct because I was eating a lot of raw fruits and veggies with tuna, clams, burger and steak and I had kidney issues! Oxalate dumping. I was peeing glass basically! Now 2 years later I have a ton of diagnosis from thyroid, aortic aneurysm, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, ovarian cyst, auto immune degenerative joint disease, gallbladder and liver issues. I look 10 months pregnant, gained 80 lbs, so weak it is not funny. I was forced to do carnivore with this gall bladder issue. I am shocking my doctor and I feel good as I can with my liver not functioning 100 %. I have to many foods I was ok with my whole life, I am not ok with now. The one thing I always say is why are the plant /starch based doctors so pale, white hair and glasses? Just asking. The carnivore doctors are getting buff, better looking, dark hair and very few with glasses. The teeth! The white teeth I am seeing the carnivore crew have! 😍😍😍
This stuff is greatly appreciated, i met and had a great conversation with an older guy in a coffee shop who shared carnivore diet knowledge with me. He also gave me a list of credible online Dr's who are talking About carnivore diet, Dr Anthony chaffee being one of them. His analysis of bs studies are well explained. Thanks Dr westman, i believe you are one of the good guys who should be credited for your work. I believe your name is on the list he gave me, i nearly fell for Gundry s bs advertisements. Glad i listen to my instincts.❤🙏💯🇬🇧
Is so refreshing to have an absolute gentleman like Dr Eric Westman point out the glaring inaccuracies and often complete misinterpretation of scientific facts in a polite and searingly accurate and inoffensive way.
The anti-Prof. Bart Kay. Refreshing. (Though I do sometimes enjoy Dr. Ken Berry's country boy sarcasm, especially when directed at big "food" or big pharmaceutical companies. )
I do Keto, low carb, notf carnivore, but I listen to Dr. Berry. I just get so sick of meat and can't do it all the time. I know you know him and I would love to see what he thinks. Thank you for your videos! I'm pretty darn confused by all the different opinions.
He is right about chickens we live in an area that farms chickens and we have a friend who raises them for Koch foods and what he says is a nightmare. I see all these poor chickens crammed into crates and feel horrible for them.
When my grandmother died from cardiovascular problems, my mother and her siblings were led to believe the cause was her daily bacon. Now, knowing more about nutrition, and biases, I'm wondering if her doctors never considered her 5+ lowballs of scotch or bourbon, or the rest of her seed oil, and crisco diet.
Dr Gundry's entire medical career was associated with Loma Linda Medical Center, completely owned and directed by the 7th Day Adventist Church, staunchly adhering to a vegetarian lifestyle. Gundry himself followed the100% vegetarian lifestyle before he changed his diet and lost his weight.
I always heard all these positive things about Loma Linda however they have "grown" other medical professionals that gone out into the rest of the World and politicized and used their positions of power to impose their perspective exclusively.
I have reinvestigated the ovolacto vegetarian diet promated by the 7 th day Adventist church We were ovolacto but mixed a bit of lean meat and fish into it by our own choice. Not mandated by the church. It worked for us even if not perfect. Everything has gone SIDEWAYS since the fiftys. I was THERE good luck on your personal journey friend
There is more than just 1 way to skin a cat, especially for an Omnivoir.... I believe that what He says about your gut Health is true regardless of which tax deductible Legally formed Corporation you donate to.
Dr. Gundry rails against the toxicity of plants and other foods (legumes, nightshades), but then recommends eating a mostly plant-based diet, which I always found odd. He does this by largely focusing on one specific plant toxin, lectins, while ignoring the many other toxins in plants. So he'll recommend eating lots of low-lectin plants like spinach, while ignoring that they have other forms of inflammation-causing toxicity (like high oxalate content in the case of spinach).
Dr. Westman, Thank you for your efforts with your channel. I have one kidney and it was damage while I was in the hospital. I used the Plant Paradox intensive care diet for 6 months and went from one point away from stage 4 Kidney disease to full fictional Kidney in 6 months. I used your Bars that you have stopped making as a big part of my meals while on travel at the time. Once I found you I have followed to see your thoughts on different diets to keep my self balanced. itis great to have a source that is balanced in there reviews and commentary!
Thank you Dr. Westman! I'm surprised you didn't comment regarding his claim that 2 1/2 eggs meets our daily needs for protein!! What!?!? As a senior citizen I'm losing muscle every day simply due the aging process. I've been prioritizing protein and getting around 90 grams of protein per day, and doing full body workouts with dumbbells for a couple of months and I feel great. There's no way I can function well on such a small amount of protein! He looks like he is gaining belly fat again so I would take what he says with a huge grain of salt!
Exactly!!! Such harmful "advise". People need 1 gram of protein per one pound of lean body mass at minimum!!! 1.5 if for performance, optimizing, being older! So you should up the protein slowly and watch what happens :) It's called: magic
@@jaimes350 Thank you - yes I know I should be getting around 1 gram per target body weight, which for me is 125 - 130 lbs but I find that a bit challenging. I'm working on it though.
I like Dr Westmans simple plan, stick to less than 20 carbs a day and eat as much protein as you want until your satisfied. I have to keep the math simple. Using his page 4 it’s pretty easy.
Why do our Family Practitioner Dr's never ever ask what you eat as a normal way of eating? They don't even ask diabetics how much sugar they eat. They just prescribe pills.
To answer your question, asking your doctor for nutrition, diabetes or weight loss diet advice is like expecting your plumber to fix your car. They aren't required to study nutrition in medical school and barely receive more than a couple of hours of training in that subject.
My father did a stint in the arctic circle as a doc and said that he saw the highest HDL and LDL levels that he'd ever seen (total cholesterol was in the 300s). BUT, no one had cardiovascular disease. Their diet was high (exclusive) in alcohol, carribou, seal meat/blubber, and fish.
I am so grateful to Dr Westman for doing these videos, it keeps me sane! Because when I come across internet influencers like Dr Gundry saying such mixed messages, Dr Westman brings things back to common sense and good science. Thank you Dr Westman 🙏🫶❤️
I had to do the FODMAP diet when I was diagnosed with IBS. I couldn't have dairy, gluten, certain vegetables & fruits such as garlic, onion, apples, nectarines ......the lust was endless! You could have a spoonful of peas, but if you had them you couldn't have a small portion of broccoli or corn. Can't have onions or garlic but you can have chillies. I did it for over 12 months & it didn't make any difference to my symptoms & then my dietician said it doesn't work for everybody!! I'd spent a fortune on gluten free & dairy free foods that tasted disgusting so did without only to be told it doesn't always work!! I've been looking into diets recently myself as I have other health issues & I have recently cut out carbs & working my way to carnivore rather than just switch. I am already in less pain & my stomach issues aren't as bad just by cutting carbs out in the last 2 weeks! Carnivore here I come.
Carnivore is absolutely the IBS answer. The plant fiber requirement is a marketing ploy. Bone broth for gut healing. Don't need the vinegar in it, that is debunked now too)
I've been carnivore for a year now and this is the best health decision I have ever made. Despite all the false theories and information about meat..... your body won't lie. Inflammation is cured without any medicine. Energy and satiety is amazing. When someone pushes their set of beliefs and it contradicts with what you feel and the results, I think it's not science. It's propaganda.
Yes. Just over 3 years carni now. I recall family being really concerned for my welfare. Now they have seen what it does, guess what? Converts! ( but so far, no groveling "you were so right, I was so wrong" acknowledgment 😊)
Yes I do have occasional cheat once in a while but that is not a part of my daily eating habits. A little won't hurt and if you understand how your body works and treat it with respect, you will know when to eat and when not to. @@irenehoimes7186
@@irenehoimes7186 carnivores aren't like vegans, we're not a cult, we don't care if someone decides to add in nuts or avocados or even cake from time to time - its eating cake every day that is the issue, we know the requirement for veg and carbs is 0 so the closer to 0 you stay the healthier you will be, but it isn't the end of the world if you sometimes enjoy eating things in addition to meat because a few days later the damage will be repaired, its eating carbs every day that causes chronic problems
I really love and appreciate your well-balanced reviews and the fact that you are not a supplement selling king like Dr. Gundry. I am 2/3 thru with this video, but this is the first time I have to stop watching a video done by you, Dr. Westman, because I cannot tolerate anymore what Dr. Gundry says.
I like this "reacts" series. A calm, measured counter/questioning, without excessive emotion and name calling, etc. If you have not reacted to a Cyrus Khambatta (one author of Mastering Diabetes), I would like to see that, as his views are pretty much diametrically opposed to keto, and I'm curious what the answer is to explain how what he's doing seems to be working for him, versus his claims that going keto is actually worse, even though most markers improve. Thanks, Dr. Westman.
I have a good friend who lets Gundry dictate her diet, she lost a lot of weight with it, but she has a lot of joint pain that has gotten progressively worse. It’s sad too, because she trusts Gundry now with her health, just because she lost some fat.
@@sylviaking8866 This is nonsense and completely made up. Show me the controlled trial that explicitly indicates time spent in ketosis is even correlated, let alone causally related to reduction in inflammation markers controlled for weight loss. We've studied keto vs. various forms of intermittent fasting vs. normal omnivore type diets and we do not see any significant difference in reduction of inflammation when total energy balance is controlled.
That's probably due to the high oxalate content in her diet. Gundry recommends daily spinach smoothies, and spinach is one of the highest oxalate-containing foods there is. Oxalates are basically microscopic needles that get embedded in your tissues, causing inflammation and joint pain (kidney stones as well). At least recommend she cut out so much spinach while still following Gundry's recommended low-lectin diet.
Gorillas and other animals also have special gut bacteria that ferments fiber into protein, and they eat their own protein rich poop. So unless someone has this special gut bacteria and eats their own poop, this is a very poor analogy.
Leaves was the reason for my stomach aches. All doctors always ask whether I eat veggies. Then I heard one doctor tell on TV, the leaves are for cattle not for humans. I stopped eating them and my stomach ache stopped forever
That's great. May I ask if your LDL has increased since going keto? I'm 2 years into low carb and I am now metabolically healthy. Trig/HDL ratio good with LDL of 300.
I was Keto for 5 years and did well… 6 months ago ( I am in Medicine), I went strict Carnivore after heavy research… I feel absolutely phenomenal after a half year and know I am eating the absolute “Optimal Diet” for the Human Species. The Health, Body, and Metabolic changes for the amazing is ASTONISHING! I only eat Beef, Butter, Fish, Bacon, and Eggs. Period. Zero Carbs. Zero Sugar. Zero Plants. I am as healthy as in my teens & the energy and mental clarity is superlative! I am 62! 🥩🥩🥩🔥🔥🔥
I think dr Westmans approach to diet is the most rounded and balanced of all the doctors and influencers to date...it is not too restrictive or extreme...its based on science and common sense...thankyou dr Westman.
He's against the carnivore diet because he doesn't see a way to make money from it. Edit: ugh! I would not call Gundry "the father of the carnivore diet." If anyone is, it would be Dr. Shawn Baker or Dr. Anthony Chaffee. Gundry's ego is unbelievable.
The father of the carnivore diet would be some ancestor from many thousands of years ago because we are carnivores. Famine and such is what has encouraged us to eat plants and to process our foods so as to forget this obvious truth.
That is funny Id look into Hippocrates clown! We are not carnivores that is utter stupidity and ridiculous! Some people are so stupid it is amazing!@@AndrewTheFrank
One of the founding fathers of the modern iteration of the carnivore diet is Augustus Owsley Stanley III aka Bear. He was eating that way starting in the late 1960's and ate nothing but meat for over 50 years.
I was a HUGE fan of Dr. Gundry, he was the guy that really motivated me to do extensive research on different diets and health research, and I will admit that when I finished his book The Plant Paradox, it was essential and really opened my eyes to what I had been naive about for so long with our typical diet. But over time after my extensive research over a few years, I also realized he was wrong on about 25% of his claims. For example, the red meat linked to cancer has been debunked showing that this was established between ONLY 2 studies done decades ago. One study was based on a QUESTIONAIRE ONLY with people who had cancer, the second study was based on grouping red meat with HIGHLY processed meats and people who had cancer, so the study didn't include a clean red meat diet by itself, it included highly processed meats that are full of chemicals and preservatives! So I find it HIGHLY suspicious that there has NEVER been a study that proves that a clean red meat diet has been associate with anyone with cancer.....I suspect that there has been plenty of time and motivation by the pro plant agenda to prove this but after all of this time does not exist. In addition when I see the medical establishment push the propaganda of meat is bad then I now understand it's probably the opposite and those who are pushing this talking point most likely know this, they need a sick society for maximum profit! Dr. Gundry also claims that in the blue zones that people in these areas do NOT consume much meat, that is ABSOLUTELY false and the people in these blue zones admit that meat is part of their daily diet, in addition they also get lots of exercise, get lots of sun and have less stress all of this makes for a great formula for longevity but make no mistake, they do eat meat daily along with some home grown vegetables from their personal gardens. Also don't forget that the meat they consume daily are their own animals that they take care of with no hormones, no antibiotics...all natural on an all natural diet so the meat is clean. I really don't know how Gundry missed this VERY important data of the blue zone people but he did so you can't take anyones word on everything, do your own research! I feel that in the next 10-20 years, we are going to find out that a proper and clean carnivore diet meaning grass fed only red meat, pasture raised eggs, wild caught fish and pasture raised poultry will prove that it is the optimum diet and we really don't need vegetables to reach optimal health, do them if you want, but it will prove they are not necessary for longevity but only time will tell since much of this is kind of new but the blood tests alone with people on a carnivore diet support healthy levels while people on vegan diets ultimately suffer healthwise tells me that vegetables don't support optimal health, animal products do!
Organ meats, too! The mitochondrial rate limiters are often bio-copper and magnesium. The bio-copper is concentrated in the organ meats of grazed animals - 120x more copper relative to iron in organ meats than muscle meats.
@@wellnesspathforme6236 Which is why you don't want to overdue organ meats, there is a reason why you only get 30 lbs of organ meat to 500 lbs of meat ratio, organ meat is the super superfoods of red meat superfoods.
@@shawnlewis1918 Agreed, but what does one do when one never ate organ meats for 50 years, and their maternal line might not have eaten organ meats going back 2-3 generations? My best guess is to up that ratio by a good bit and eat a variety of organs from pastured animals. Due to the iron overload agenda, I minimize muscle meats. Not because I think they are bad, but 80 years of rusty iron filing ingestion loaded into my epigenetics have consequences that could reasonably mean quality iron ingestion might reasonably limit my body’s ability to detox the toxic iron. As an aside, my height increased almost 3/4” in my 50’s after I started eating organ meats. I didn’t believe the first measurement - so much so I didn’t even bother verifying it until I mentioned it to a friend and he had me remeasure. I also see glimpses of flipping from a 30+ year catabolic state to an anabolic state as well. That would be big as well. I’m currently low-calorie keto in order to detox and recycle toxic cells, so I’m not strength training much now. Am I doing this perfectly? Not a chance. Am I doing the best I know how to do and do I continually review reviews of the science, and sometimes the science itself? Absolutely. I have no doubt my brain health as I age depends strongly on it. Once I get my mental ‘mojo’ back, I’d like to test whether I’m anabolic or not with some consistent strength training.
Gundry has an amazing medical background. I like his lectin views. That said, there are things I don't like about his views. It's extremely important that we have these videos where trusted medical youtubers essentially debate each other
Hi Dave love the guests very real. I am low carb keto but really enjoy the journey of listening to people who push against big pharma and the wrong medical advise. Keep up your doing a great job❤
He is confusing and all this info is overwhelming to me. I desperately need to lose a lot of weight (roughly 200 pounds) and I can easily understand and sustain carnivore. I’ve lost about 20 pounds in about 5-6 weeks. I feel awesome. I’m sticking with what’s working.
My son lost 110 pounds at age 32 and has kept it off for 3 years doing KETO with reduced calories to 1700 a day. It took him 8 months going from 315 to 215 then this last year he's dropped another 10 pounds. He stopped calorie restriction once he hit 225 and his body knows how much to eat. He makes egg salad with avocado when he's on the run, lots of roasted chicken, bacon eggs, steak, carrots broccoli salads and and some cheese
He is a pompous ass. Sorry whether he has some valid information or not. He is condescending and speaks like he is the last word on it all. Listening to him here is making me dislike him more.
Once again, you're too patient Dr. Westman! Sometimes them man needs to be reminded, among other things, that the largest part of obese people are also poor and can't afford oysters! Another excellent video. THank you dr. Westman
Thanks for your video. When it comes to the harmfulness of food, a big problem is leaky gut. People following a carniovore diet do not have this problem.
I am an olive oil lover and have tried Dr Gundry’s olive oil and I must say it was the funkiest tasting oil I have ever tried. My whole family hated it! He claims his oil had more polyphenols than other EVOO so that’s why I purchased 6 bottles on a subscription. Within one week of my first shipment I was sent another 6 bottle case which I had to return at my own expense. I received a refund for the last shipment but please beware any product on subscription!
Chances are it's only part olive oil. Ask your Alexa device and it'll tell you that 70% of olive oil in America is fake. Ask your Google device and it'll tell you 80% is fake.
Gundry blows all kind of details totally out of proportion. Besides that, the Blue Zone populations eat a lot of meat. Pork, fish, goat, sheep, chicken and beef. This is very often conveniently ignored or left out of the discussion by our plant based friends. Also, not eating the whole egg will greatly reduce its nutritional value.
Most of the nutrition in eggs is in the yolk. The fat in egg whites actually inhibits the absorption of vitamin B7, so if you're someone who eats eggs frequently, I'd advice only using the egg yolk if possible. Hair loss is one indication that you may have become deficient in B7, so instead of taking my word for it, that's something you may want to pay attention to if you started shedding more hair than normal after deciding to eat whole eggs more often.
I googled this "does blue zone eat a lot of meat" and I seem to have been told otherwise: they limit their meat intake or sparingly take meat. I do want to enquire where you got your source of information from regarding the blue zone eats a lot of meat.
@@Inquisetor90 There are several blue zones in the world, both in the west and in Asia. I've heard conflicting things regarding their diets, but off the top of my head, there's a blue zone in Europe where people eat a ton of mostly processed meats. I think in the country of Andorra, but I'm not entirely sure if that's the right country. Okinawans in Japan have historically eaten a lot of meat, but their diets have changed drastically in recent decades, and it's that latter part that the mainstream media seem to focus on when they report on the health and lifespans of Japanese people. I don't have a conclusive answer to your question, but it seems to me that at least some of the people who write about the diets of these areas simply shift the evidence to align with their own biases.
I love Dr Westman because he's so practical! Twelve years ago I was afraid of so many foods. It seemed every food had something wrong with it. I carried a lot of anxiety around trying to grocery shop for my young family. It was mentally and emotionally exhausting just going to the store. Keto and carnivore and intermittent fasting give my body and mind amazing energy. I love the simplicity. My brain thanks you, Dr Westman.
I know a guy who's primary diet has been meat and he is 90 years old and in better health than most people at 60 and he still works hard and isn't bent over like most old people. He used to smoke but quit that 20 years ago. You be the judge.
Dr Gundry should make another channel reading technical manuals, old user manuals (Windows 95, WordPerfect 5.1, etc.) He would be perfect for an asmr/insomnia channel. This is a compliment BTW 😊
No normal person can find all pastured raised chicken that has only been fed non lectin free foods for other than an astonomical prices. I eat the best chicken I can find in my area and eat it on occassion. I eat mostly grass fed/finished hamburger, steaks from my grocery sometimes and pastured eggs when I can get it. Otherwiser I eat what I can get. Dr Gundry's program is unattainable for most in the real world! We need to eat what is available /affordable and a program that is sustainable.
If you look hard enough you can find faults with any food. Too much water can cause Hyponatremia which could be fatal. Too much air can cause oxygen poisoning. Too much sleep can disrupt REM sleep and hormone regulation.
Well, eating a variety of foods in moderation might help. I have had quite a few clients who lived well into their late 90's and well over 100 but they weren't on any specific diets, but ate a variety of foods in moderation. Even in the health facilities where I worked.. My clients ranged in age from 113, 112, 110, 107, 105, 102, 103, late 90's and 80's. They did have better building blocks I like to call it because they were growing up during a time when it was probably less herbicides, pesticides and fungicides, over time I'm thinking was increasing and Processed and less nutritious. I lived on a farm for a short time when I was a teenager. We had apple trees and a few cows and chickens. We ate fresh produce, fresh eggs, butter, milk and meat. That was in 1970/1971. Well I was very healthy but when I left my heath wasn't as good as it was during my stay there. So now I eat a variety of foods in moderation and avoid fast food and very processed food. My client who lived to 112 did have his own garden. My uncle is 93 and has his own garden and still drives. He eats a variety of foods in moderation. He used to go fishing, but not any more. He's taking care of his son, my cousin, as a caregiver who had brain tumor surgery. Thanks for the common sense video. An educated consumer is the best customer.
I've been on Nexium for 10 years and still suffer from reflux, to the point that I'm taking 2 to 3 nexium a day. I also have Hoshimotos (low thyroid) Yesterday I cut out bread and most carbs. Had sardines in oil for lunch with cucumber and radish and for dinner had sausages cooked with onions, cabbage, and a little sweet potato. Snacks were two lamb chops, fat on, and a slice of bacon in the evening after dinner. Did not take Nexium at all yesterday as I'd run out. Guess what, no reflux and a full nights sleep, with minimal snoring. Interesting result for one day of no processed carbs.
I just recently listened to you closely for the first time, Dr. Eric Westman. I SO APPRECIATE THAT YOUR BACKGROUND goes back to Dr. Atkins which I followed and used in the 70s. Loved listening to you ( you were on the Diet Doctor). Listening to Gundry, not so much.
Yeah; why didn’t you have that heart attack or stroke when you were 25? 😉 You’d been eating carnivore for 10 years at that point, right, if I remember your story correctly. And then, you died 20 years in, at age 35, right? 😜 (This is all sarcasm. I’ve only been eating 95% carnivore for 6 months now, and I feel great!)
Don’t waste your time having Dr. Gundry on again he’s a quack he’s criticizing the carnivore, because it cuts into his recommendations and his profits.. so just kick him to the curb and keep giving your great knowledgeable advice Dr. Westman
I love the carnivore diet, I started it 4 month ago because of diabetes. I can't feel my diabetes improving, but I have had stomach ulcers for 30 years and they are cured by eating only animal products. First time in 30 years my stomach doesn't hurt, I don't have to worry of sudden death from bleading out (almost died 6 times), on top of that I've lost 10 kilo's in 4 month and my foggy brain has cleared up, I can remember tings again. (Don't know what that is, it just is)
Give diabetes some time! Especially if you have been diabetic for very long. The body has to relearn and remember when glucose and insulin resistance were not a problem.
Australian aboriginies also were mostly carnivore and long lived and healthy. With the adoption of modern diets they've become some of the unhealthiest and short-lived people on the planet.
I read dr. Gundry’s book a few years back. He opened my eyes to the trouble with lectins. What put me off was him saying you should still eat them. 🤷🏻♀️
The key statements are some of his patients use the carnivore diet for temporary relief. So, eliminating the diet that got you healthy you should only stay on it temporarily and go back to the diet that got you sick. What sense does that make? It doesn’t. I’ll stay with what got me healthy to stay that way 😎
I am a Herbalist and what Gundry is referring to is the Bitter Principle in kale. We make tonics eg, Swedish Bitters that contain this principle because it stimulates the appetite. Great for people with gut problems or those recovering from illness. We see that plant as a medicine to man, not his enemy.
I think it all depends on your body. I am Newly diagnosed with SIBO and autoimmune disorder among a bunch of other things. Foods I use to be able to eat I cannot touch right now! 😢
Sally Norton makes sense of plant toxicity thru her thorough research of plant oxalates. I saw vegetarians fade away and I was headed in the same direction until I saw one of her videos . about oxalate poisoning. She saved my life so now I know what plants to avoid but I'm mainly carnivore now.
Thanks for responding to some of Dr. Gundry's comments. I find him so confusing, and complicated and not making much common sense. I appreciate your straight forward, understandable communication.
Dear Dr. Westman, I believe the best approach is the dialogue with references to the perspectives since science is made of that. This is why I find credibility in your videos. Regards
If the brain fog comes back after a month or two, don't add in carbohydrates. With me I realized I was low on iodine. Unless you use iodized salt you may get low on iodine. I use sea salt and himalayan pink salt which actually don't have much iodine. I put one drop of iodine in my coffee and it has made a world of difference.
I'm immediately suspicious when someone is selling their own line of products. He's making money from the videos and the products. The Sami are a people that eat a lot of animal protein.
Also notice how sugar and carbs don't cause colon cancer but meat does according to Gundry? Gundry is actually part of the political movement which is pushing a plant based only diet for humans in the future.
Dr. Weston, you are familiar with oxalate, right? Search Sally Norton's toxic super foods. And specifically, oxalate dumping. Btw, your little blue keto book was very helpful. That's how long, I've been keto and now nearly carnivore - about 2007.
Dr. Gundry (and I’m a customer of some of his products) is associated with Loma Linda University-a7th Day Adventist-founded organization-and they have been advocating vegetarianism for 100 years, on the basis that animal meats make you too sexy! Since at 73, this sounds like a great recommendation, I’m happy to try this way of eating! Sorry, Dr. Gundry, I’m so thankful for your revelation of the harmful lectins and oxalates, but I am not persuaded by you to reduce meat in my diet. I now know that It has given me-in 3 weeks-such a feeling of well-being that there’s no turning back. Plus only carnivore restrains me from my love for sweet baked goods! BTW, I wouldn’t eat a lot of chicken regularly, because 25+ years ago, the magazine The New Yorker wrote one of their LENGTHY articles called “The Dirty Chicken” or “Dirty Chickens”. It revealed the unhygienic processes of washing and processing chickens. Beef was mentioned as a much cleaner, less germ-laden product by comparison. Now we have one Cornish hen, boiled, shared between my husband and myself (we’re little people-that’s ample for us), perhaps every 2 or 3 weeks. 2 eggs per day being enough protein for one person per day? Ridiculous! What about the amino acids we need? I’m reeling! Maybe a sedentary old lady could make do with that, but I doubt it. He’s right about eating wild-caught fish. Very hard to find in restaurants. He’s wrong about the blue zone people not eating much meat. In at least two places, including Sardinia, they DO eat a lot of meat and dairy. I learned this from one of the other carnivore drs, who had been there. Sorry, Dr. Gundry-you’ve lost a lot of your credibility with me, when it comes to meat!
Thank you so very much for addressing this!! I was almost fooled by this guy. He comes off sounding like “the authority” on diet.. I quickly realized he was off on a few things.. and I appreciate you speaking to these statements he’s made. Thank you!
I was definitely on the Plant Paradox diet and was losing weight. His bias is most definitely from the fact that he worked at Loma Linda Hospital. Which is a hospital that was started by the Seventh Day Adventist Church in California. It's not known if he is Seventh Day Adventist though, but part of their beliefs is eating a vegetarian diet. So, to me if he worked at a hospital that supported a plant based lifestyle, then he's going to have that bias. Raw Kale is bad for me too. I get a terrible stomach ache from it. I've stopped eating it too. I do think he has some good ideas, and advice ,and I glean from many in the keto world. I have a hard time eating a lot of veggies ( I can only do cauliflower, broccoli, carrot and cabbage and that's it). I swayed more towards the regular keto because I missed eating meat. I also own my own chickens and am not buying into if you feed them a lectin diet they will be better , chances are those chickens aren't producing a lot of meat and are most likely VERY expensive chickens to buy. I'd like to see the proof of how much of that is actually in the meat of the animal Also when on it , you do feel like you're not sure what you're really supposed to eat. Plants are trying to kill you but eat these ones that are trying to kill you less. Meat will give you cancer, but if you must, eat grass fed , grass finished only (forget if you live in an area where that doesn't exist) Chicken is bad unless you get it from someone who feeds them a lectin free diet ( which would be bad for the chicken because that's not a healthy diet for them) . I also felt that the Plant Paradox lifestyle is a very expensive one and it caters to those that have the money to do it, and constantly relied on making ALL of your food because stores don't carry most of what you are supposed to eat. I mean, it's not all bad, It's helped me keep away from foods that do not agree with me, and made me look for cleaner ingredients in my food that I buy.
One more thing. Dr. Westman I enjoy your videos because of the open attitude that you to videos you do showing others views and perspectives. It has helped me to critique other diets that are out there. I believe that you honestly present their viewpoints and then agree where agreement is possible and also point out where so claims are not as reliable. In the studies others sometimes make false claims and to base a diet on studies from asking participants to only fill out a questionnaire is very crummy. I appreciate your honesty and views. Peace health and happiness to you doctors and to us All.
I didn’t recognize Dr Westman he looks so much younger than a few years ago. Gundry is looking older than ever. I’ll listen to the doctors who are looking better and better over the years cause they are clearly on the right track. Dr Berry and Nurse Neisha also look younger and healthier than even just 3 years ago.
Kale put me in the hospital. I was on the ketogenic diet and I was eating maybe too many nut and between that and too much kale and the fiber in kale pretty much push everything over the edge . But now I’m on the carnivore diet and I love it, and it’s curing my IBS and Diverticulitis. 👏👏 Plus, in two months I lost 18 pounds. Of course, I stalled out cause I was trying to finish the keto bread l bought from the freezer . It throws me off and I stall out my weight loss every time. So I’m cutting them out greens and lowering my fat intake,, cause I’m only 18 pound from my goal weight. I even put my dog on a carnivore diet . He’s more calm, and happy .
Dr. Gundry has some good information, and some bad. The key takeaway from all of this is to figure out what does and doesn't work for you. Don't let any internet doctor fully dictate your diet and life. I honestly feel like being an omnivore is best for the majority of us. I've been on a low-lectin diet for most of the past year because I screwed my stomach up taking too much ibprofen instead of taking care of my spinal issues, so Dr. Gundry's information actually did help me. I tried quite a few diets trying to figure out what to eat vs not eat. I've been doing yoga 4-5 days a week now for 10 months or so now and that's solved most of my pain/spinal issues, along with losing 80 lbs by doing low carb/high fat/bulletproof fasting(Like intermittent fasting, but you have coffee w/ butter and MCT oil for breakfast.) Hoping to be able to start re-introducing more foods into my diet soon and see how I feel.
Dr. Gundry was one of my entry points to recognizer that plants are not necessarily good just because they are plants. You just need to take the leap that it's not just the lectins.
If you can stomach his all-knowing pompous attitude. He is an alarmist, blabs on and then hawks his latest not inexpensive creation that is God's gift to the Universe.
@@wocket42 Exactly, that's the biggest paradox with his thinking. He says plants are bad and out to kill you, but eat a plant-heavy diet anyway because we'll just focus on avoiding ONE of the things that makes them bad and ignore the rest.
The basic human diet was carnivore, not omnivore. Meat is how we thrived. To reintroduce vegetables is going backwards. Try introducing more protein from beef (the opposite of what Gundry says) so that you’re eating at least 100 grams a day. Easy to do if you’re buying the Wagyu ground beef from Costco & if you’re bored with burgers try the ribeye at Costco, it’s fantastic! It’s 42 grams (3 tablespoons) of butter, in decafe, to help you get all the fat in and it is better than MCT oil, which is plant based and from coconut oil. And having at least 2 meals a day is essential to be able to eat all the protein you need. And caffeine is a stimulant, so if you’re still drinking it, how do you know what your true energy level is? Also weight training is much more easily done when you’re getting 100 grams of protein or more daily, contrary to Gundry’s guidelines. Gundry has said that he takes between 50 and 100 supplements daily. Probably to make up for the lack of red meat protein and to try and undo all the damage from the vegetables that he promotes.
I was diagnosed with migraines nearly 45 years ago. The physician never asked about my diet but didn't hesitate to prescribe Demerol. This medication did nothing to cure those migraines, it just put me to sleep. Didn't get any relief until I started practicing the low carb woe about 8 years ago.
Increase your sodium (via sea salt) intake. This balances a potassium leakage (genetic?) defect in your brain cells that triggers the migraines. See Dr. Eric Berg's YT video on Migraines for more INFO about this. And oh, increase the salt intake daily BEFORE the occurrence of migraines. Do NOT wait for a migraine to begin. Me and my three children no longer suffer frequent migraines anymore. My children's migraines were VERY intense and lasted for several days. You will have to figure out how much more salt you need daily by trial and error, unfortunately. My understanding is that this simple remedy does work for most people.
If you have Crohn's "experts" recommend a high fiber diet until you get too much inflammation. Then they recommend a low fiber diet until the inflammation is gone. Then repeat with high fiber...
I am a 79-year-old male; when I was 54, I cured my ulcerative colitis by going on an Atkins carnivorish diet. It doesn't happen instantly, but give it 90 to 180 days, and it will be gone or significantly improved. My case was so severe that it took about 6 to 8 months before it was gone. My doctor was angry with me and dropped me as a patient because I refused to take his medication 22 years ago, and I have not had a problem. The only thing I have changed is increased good, healthy fats and Protein. About 70% fat and 30% protein. Also, my gout, which I have suffered from since I was in my mid-30s, is not better; it's gone. That didn't happen until I changed the ratio of fat to Protein. Much of what I thought was gout was plantar fasciitis, and once the veteran's hospital got me the proper inserts for my shoes, 90% of what I thought was gout disappeared; the other 10%, I believe, was caused by things like high fructose corn syrup. It doesn't take much! Dr. Berry, one of your best talks, explains what I have done wrong over the years. I have noticed that some of the best advice comes from doctors who are not tied to institutions or clinics and must follow a standard of care regimen. Once they're out on their own and feel much more free about what they say, the smart ones like Dr. Berry give the best advice. The proof in the pudding is if what they say works, especially over time. That's about as good of proof as you can ever get!
ONE THING i have against Carnivore. I’ve been Carnivore only a month after doing Keto a lot longer. The knock I have with Carny, is the LIMITED food group choices. Keto is a BUFFET of variety by comparison. Now the human tongue has over 10,000 taste buds (a cat has 500, a dog has 1200). Humans by DESIGN were seemingly meant to experience and enjoy a variety of tastes along a smorgasbord of different NATURAL foods. Carnivore goes against this… which IS a real issue for many who simply go back to Keto because they receive the same benefits by doin a high fat/high protein/ very low carb diet BUT…. Keto dieters get a much broader spectrum of foods choices. Going to stick with Carnivore for a while to see where it leads because I want to make up my own mind in respect to my own body and how it handles it as I am not a big fan of anecdotal evidence of other dieters.
I've been Carnavore for 18 months. Before Carnavore i never wanted to workout. Know i cant wait to workout! Testosterone of 645 and im just short of 63 years old
Spent my entire life on the "Government approved" low fat, low sodium diet, excercised, etc.
@@Mallchad well sugar is the worst offender in this case, many carnivores had a CAC score of 0, and it's one of the best indicators of heart health

I have recently discovered Dr Westman... I also love him now. :)
Agreed, Westman is balanced and calm.
Show us any scientific data supporting carnivore and studies or literature? Must be met the same way. Carnivore is a cult.
Although I’d love to have heard Dr Westman’s counter argument
Dr Westman, you are so polite and gracious in your peer reviews. It's all too rare and very refreshing.
Does Dr Westman have any evidence supporting what he says also?
Sounds wonderful! Congratulations on your success!! ❤

That's it.

Be wary of someone who spends most of his time hawking specific products and supplements. Gundry is the king of pop up ads on the internet.

Total quackery, IMHO!
Maybe that is the speed of neurocognition on Gundry's diet.
lol
I noticed he slurs his words and so I don’t actually feel being talked down to. I see her k as a man who has his own issues
He may be in decline. Sounds like his age (and diet?) is catching up with him.
Dr. Gundry is permanently tainted by the cult of Loma Linda.
Yes, I fell for the Gundry clickbait years ago. Bought his book and supplements. Lectin Shield, lol 😂 Stopped that nonsense years ago. Now carnivore for 18 months! Never felt better in my life!

Me too! I’ve seen the light!!
Yeah, like you I dropped him after a short time. Never purchased his book, tho (it sat in my amazon inbox for a couple of weeks before I dumped it!).

Dr. Gundry has lost a lot of weight. He does make some very interesting points. I remember thinking he was nuts when I received a video saying your veggies are killing you! Of course all the ones he was talking about are my favorite. I do Keto, low carb, notf carnivore, but I listen to Dr. Berry. I just get so sick of meat and can't do it all the time. I know you know him and I would love to see what he thinks. Thank you for your videos! I'm pretty darn confused by all the different opinions.
I do ketovore as I start to feel so greasy after eating just meat for long periods of time.
I get what you saying I can’t just eat meat either I like a variety
He is right about chickens we live in an area that farms chickens and we have a friend who raises them for Koch foods and what he says is a nightmare. I see all these poor chickens crammed into crates and feel horrible for them.
Trust me this is a serious condition.

Common sense is a rare find now day! 🤗
I've been carnivore for 4 months now. Absolutely works for me.
Glad you pointed this out. Many are unaware of His SDA Affiliation
He’s an atheist. Read one of his books. He talks about evolution like it’s real

Red meat is the most nutritious food. it has everything
According to one video I watched last night from (5 minuet body) you should be eating 130 grams of protein a day.
Exactly!!!
Such harmful "advise".
People need 1 gram of protein per one pound of lean body mass at minimum!!!
1.5 if for performance, optimizing, being older!
So you should up the protein slowly and watch what happens :)
It's called: magic
Exactly ! The proof of the pudding ....... and Dr Grundy is something of a pudding LOL.
They are always in a hurry. The diminishes the quality of the visit.😢
They’re too focused on treating the symptoms, not the cause. Also, nutrition makes up a tiny portion of their education.
That's how they are trained. The system ensures it keeps people sick.
Maybe because the doctors think they are there to help when there are big complicated problems, and asume you can eat healthy by yourself.
To answer your question, asking your doctor for nutrition, diabetes or weight loss diet advice is like expecting your plumber to fix your car. They aren't required to study nutrition in medical school and barely receive more than a couple of hours of training in that subject.
I'm not sorry that I don't trust Gundry...and don't bother to listen/watch anything he says/does...

He’s all over the map with his food ideologies. I also think he’s 7th day Adventist.

Carnivore here I come.
welcome! to freedom!
Love the typo. 'The lust was endless '. Maybe not a typo? Some diet wow.

So you saying you only eat carni? You don't fall the wagon occasionally & have fruit or cakes?😊

You can lose weight successfully on many diet plans. Keeping it off however is the issue. Case in point..."The Biggest Loser"
One has to go into ketosis if one really wants to stop inflammation. Gundry wants to sell his olive oil and MCT oils. He is a bit of a grifter.
@@sylviaking8866 i'd say he's a TOTAL grifter.
Lost all respect for Gundry when he said "Eat a lot of vegetables because look at the gorilla how strong he is".
He's an idiot in bed with big pharma&co.
😂 I love your comment ❤
Amen! We are not gorillas.
I am pretty strict keto going on 5 years now and all I have seen is great benefits and my doctors loves how healthy I am turning 65

Entertaining, these are all the arguments that swim around my head.
@AndrewTheFrank you're not correct dude.
Zero Carb Life and a bunch of others started on email chat groups even before Baker. I think Baker coined the word.
The Blue Zone Diet stuff written by a guy who loved to travel and write. He made a lot assumptions which Dr Anthony
Chaffee blows out of the water 😂
Now he’s trying to take credit for being father of carnivore diet? Omg. The EGO of Dr Gundry

It is a horrible tasting olive oil.
Chances are it's only part olive oil. Ask your Alexa device and it'll tell you that 70% of olive oil in America is fake. Ask your Google device and it'll tell you 80% is fake.
Always read the reviews and trust them!
I know this first hand what you say about blue zones. Gundry is flat out lying to his audience.
Okinawans in Japan have historically eaten a lot of meat, but their diets have changed drastically in recent decades, and it's that latter part that the mainstream media seem to focus on when they report on the health and lifespans of Japanese people. No normal person can find all pastured raised chicken that has only been fed non lectin free foods for other than an astonomical prices.

The key statements are some of his patients use the carnivore diet for temporary relief. The only thing I am getting from dr. Gundry is all the evidence I need to keep growing and raising my own food
Thanks for responding to some of Dr. Gundry's comments. I find him so confusing, and complicated and not making much common sense. I appreciate your straight forward, understandable communication.
Dear Dr. Westman,
I believe the best approach is the dialogue with references to the perspectives since science is made of that.
This is why I find credibility in your videos.
Regards
Nice video, Dr. Westman. Appreciate your time.
11 days on carnivore and I have no more brain fog & no more guard like symptoms
If the brain fog comes back after a month or two, don't add in carbohydrates. With me I realized I was low on iodine. Unless you use iodized salt you may get low on iodine. I use sea salt and himalayan pink salt which actually don't have much iodine. I put one drop of iodine in my coffee and it has made a world of difference.
@@smarterworkout thank you
I'm immediately suspicious when someone is selling their own line of products. He's making money from the videos and the products. The Sami are a people that eat a lot of animal protein.
He's always hawking his supplements. Hard pass. Only listen to you ❤ and Dr Ken Berry ❤.
I also like dr. Shawn Baker and there's some good ones on low carb down under.
Nieeeeeesha.
Neisha is my girll@@murrynathan
Also notice how sugar and carbs don't cause colon cancer but meat does according to Gundry? Gundry is actually part of the political movement which is pushing a plant based only diet for humans in the future.
And Anthony Chaffee MD
I have been carnivore for over 4 years. It has been so beneficial to my health, I will never go back to consuming plant products.
Plus, in two months I lost 18 pounds.
You know how many people of Diverticulitis? A lot! Good for you for taking control. My aunt died from it. It was horrible!
Keep your fat intake up. You need it. About 1-1.5 sticks of butter or similar fat each day. It seems like a lot but your body loves it. 👍🏼😊
Thank you so much Dr Westman, you make this confusing world of nutrition a better place.
Thank you Dr Westman. I am loving the carnivore way of life. 🙏
Thank you for all of this COMMON SENSE!!! There is so much conflicting information.
Maybe your migraines were from listening to Gundry...
@@jjtopp99-Hormone imbalance causes migraines.
All plants would flourish if we gave them a good helping of what Gundry is full of…
💩💩😏
Lol
If plants wrecked a gut and caused autoimmunity with lechtins, then heal with carnivore and then go back to the stuff that wrecked it long term. WTF?
Gundry's logic.
