    Great video Brian, it is April 1, 2023 and I just bought my Conssecndo!
    I removed all the stickers for a custom painting.
    Do you ever crash ??????????
    I have learned so much from you and your wife is a great camera crew!
    Thank you Wife for helping Brian to teach us so well!
    Side Note to Horizon Hobby.....
    Brian, I wanted to buy from your channel and I went in but they would NOT sell it to me if I would not let them leave it on my front door! NO WAY I WOULD LEAVE IT OUT THERE!
    I send every thing to my UPS shipping store right by my office, they will not send to my UPS even though I use Pay Pal!
    Sadly I can not use them for anything so I got really lucky and found it at a hobby store locally!
    Same price at PCH Hobby than on-line COOL!!!
    Keep up the great work!

      Thanks, glad you're here with us.
      I do crash, all the time!
      As for ordering and shipping addresses, I'm really not sure why you can't pick the UPS store address, as your shipping address??? This seems strange.
      Any chance you reached out to Horizon Hobby with a complaint?

    Brian and camera crew: i so appreciate what you guys do almost every day. Your reviews are so complete and entertaining with all the awesome brianizims thrown in as an extra bonus.
    Im a begginer. Been flying a couple years. Live in the middle of nowhere. You and thise like you have been my teachers. Finally bought my first commercially made plane a few months ago. This one, the concendo evoluthion. Have learned a lot, better every day. I really have one big issue with the plane. The fuse is weaker than crap.. my landings are alway on grass in a field. If there is anything off at all with any angle the fuse breaks Back at the tail. BAck of the battery compartment or front or back of the servo compartment. On my second body,, reinforced the crap out of it before rebuiling it. Just got done flying this morning and had a little heavy tail land. Broke the foam at that skinny part of the tail. Just wondered if y had heard others talk about this issue?
    My ultimate plane is a competition grade DLG, snipe, bamf, concept, etc 1.5 meter. Anyone ever sends you one of these free and you happen to not want it, ill take care of all shipping and send you my address, stay a
    Safe.

      Kip, Glad you're here with us, and glad to help get you up to speed. Sounds like your well on your way to finding more success in the hobby!!!
      As for the Conscendo Evolution - 1) Foam is VERY brittle compared to it's predecessors, the Conscendo Advanced, and previous to that the original, Conscendo S. The foam was very SQUISHY, like that of the Carbon Cub S2 1.3m...very forgiving, LIGHT density foam. The Conscendo Evo, however, was designed with SPEED in mind, and without the firmer, higher density foam, this plane would literally break apart at the high speeds, and you'd loose that wonderful scream ;(
      So to answer your question, YES, I've broke off and reglued my tail - this is nothing unusual. If you have good glue and some bamboo skewers, you can have her fixed and back in the air in no time flat. I would recommend one of these two glues for you, in this type of repair...
      Foam2Foam bit.ly/30RNnh0 (Horizon Hobby)
      Mucilage bit.ly/3fdfzQp (Hobbyking)
      ...with the LATER being the slight edge on holding power, and speed...BUT they dry out FAST, so get 2-3 tubes and you'll want to cut it opened ONLY after you're ready to use it...then some will dry out even before you open them ;(!!!
      Don't worry if you're having to fix it often, you're learning, and it's not abnormal to need to fix your planes about every other flight, BUT you could get a slower, easier to fly option, if you want to try to have a little less frustration. That being said, they're a lot more work to setup, but very good... Check out these planes on my channel - Phoenix , ASW-28, Fox 3m, Fox 2.3m, ASW-17, and there's more, but you'll have your hands full just watching these ;) Trust me, you want to get well versed in these before you start into DLG's!!!
      Good luck! We're here for you, and hope to help you have a more economical and fulfilling journey in this hobby!

    I'm flying my Con-Evo as a flat land thermaler. Some early set-up thoughts from an aileron newbie...
    I now have the CG about 3" back. The manual calls for 2.5" to 2.75" back. (I went as far as 3 1/8", but that was too far back for me.) I use a 1300 3s battery pushed all the way back, plus a bit of weight on the tail, to get to 3".
    I started with ailerons set at at the second hole out (stock), R/E re-set at the closest holes. 100% travel. No expo. 0% aileron/rudder mix in the beginning, then added 10% rudder after a few days. I flew it that way for a week or so, but noticed it lost altitude when turning in little or no lift. So, I dialed in 20% expo into the ailerons to slow them down, and pushed the aileron/rudder mix to 35%. Now it banks less and yaws more. Very flat turns in dead air. It's the best it's felt yet.
    I flew with a group of experienced F5J pilots the other day, who were all flying Radians, and my Conscendo rose up through them in light 9 AM air. And it sure wasn't my own talent that did it. This is a really good little soaring machine.
    One other thing. I've had to re-set the rudder and elevator trims most times I've flown to get them visually re-centered. Either the servos aren't centering, or the foam is warping in our hot west coast summer weather, or something. Small issue, just thought I'd mention it.

      I'm very glad to here she does this very well too!!!! I love this plane, and it's great all around. I have found that the new denser foam is less forgiving of a dropped "Catch" attempt :( Oh well, nothing a little Mucilage and tape and patience can't remedy ;)

  • @jeffhenderson934

    Without question the most fun maiden I’ve ever had. Rock solid as soon as it left my had. Went with a couple 3s to start and then a couple 4s to finish the day. First time in over a month I had my balance, depth perception and fine motor back.
    Ordering a 2nd Evolution tonight. PNP. No need for Safe, ever. AS3X was nice. After about 2 minutes I was at high rates (100/20) and never had issue. It’s my “Go-To/Fly First” plane on grass. (Twin Otter is that plane on floats) No complaints other than the battery strap that I broke 20 seconds after the build.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  4 роки тому

      Yes, agreed totally - AWESOME plane. Word of warning...the new foam is way more dense, which is NEEDED on this plane, but it's also more brittle as a result, so be careful about catching it...DON'T MISS...gravity is not as nice to this as her predecessors...I broke the nose off and the tail off already - two drops, and two breaks - EWWWW...BUT, she's repaired with a little mucilage and tape, and ready to fly in a couple hours. She's flying just as good as new, BUT wanted to share the heads up. LOVE THIS PLANE!!!

    I am just blown away by how great this airplane flies. I'm pretty new to RC and was easily doing loops and rolls on my maiden flight. It seems to self right even without SAFE turned on. It is an absolute joy to fly. My only regret is that I didn't buy one sooner.

  • @vipertruck100

    Hi Brian and crew,
    Thanks to you I got me this glider
    acer, indeed it flies awesome. You mentioned it has an AR637T in it. That is also stated in the manual. But my Conscendo has an AR637TA in it.
    That is a huge no go because it is not having vario or altitude telemetry. Horizon Hobby should deliver what is promised in the manual. So I ended up throwing the AR637TA out and put my Jeti receiver and Vario in it. So no SAFE or AS3X, but that's not a big deal. It actually glides better now. Love the the way you and the nice lady do your things. Just got another problem now, my lady wants an all white kitchen!!! And I loved the purple so much.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 роки тому

      I probably mis spoke, sorry about that! This plane was one of the FIRST to showcase the AR637TA (I don't know if I KNEW to know yet at time of filming - LOL)
      This one has the AR637TA - so there's no barometer / vario ;(

      @@BrianPhillipsRC It's no big problem at all. My AR637TA will be handy in a little FPV type plane. I don't fly real FPV. IT just carry a camera sometimes. Great video work, love the Lady's voice, sound very exotic.

    You made a comment about it being strong enough to pull itself out of a tree. I have tested this assertion when, during my third consecutive loop, I misjudged distance/depth and flew right into a very large oak tree. The plane did mostly fly through it but came out the other side with the fuselage broken in half, the ESC yanked out and dangling, the wings broken off the saddle and one snapped in half along with one prop broken in half. With liberal use of carbon fiber rods, flat bar, toothpicks, expanding insulation foam, packing tape and glue she has been put back together. While it looks like it has been through a war zone, it still flies great and vey nearly as good as new. It remains my favorite plane and now has the added benefit of being fearless!

    • @putzytart
      @putzytart 4 роки тому

      Brian Phillips couldn’t agree more about HH planes. It’s to the point that it frustrates me that they don’t make more planes because I just can’t bring myself to buy other brands anymore. I bought the Hobbyking Avios Albatross because it’s so beautiful but it’s been nothing but trouble since day one. Took multiple replacement parts, servos, ESCs, push rods and control arms etc before it was flying right. It’s a wonderful plane but the quality and attention to detail just isn’t there like Eflite stuff. But also your videos just make it so easy to go out and buy and follow your set up. I admit I don’t always follow your exact set up especially in regards to expo and rates but that’s down to personal preference. It’s just great to know what considerations there are before I buy something. If you review it in detail and love it then I’m pretty confident I will as well. Your videos are hugely valuable to all of us so thank you!!!

    According to the manual for the AR637T, you can add a variometer sensor (SPMA9589) to the AR637TA that is in the BNF version to enable altitude and vario telemetry.

      Nice! I did figure out that the AR736TA doesn't support VARIO, and I was super bummed. My bigger gripe is that it's also locked down :( I loath when Horizon Hobby does this on any plane. Why can't we have forward programming, and Vario?

      One word of warning....the foam is a bit less forgiving with the stiffer setup they used. If you miss a catch, and the frame breaks, don't freak out...it's still easy to glue back together, but it's harder to get the glue to stick, so you have to glue and then tape it back. Hope you don't have to do this, but I'm kinda a realist ;) Good luck!!!

      1 warning - when and if you plan to CATCH the plane, make sure you CATCH it. The firmer foam is a bit less forgiving than the older Conscendo Advanced or Conscendo S...thus it has a tendency to break, rather than bent. It's not a huge deal, since you can still glue it together and tape it and literally go back to flying....BUT just use a bit more caution than what you might have used with it's predecessors.

I did notice with my other planes using the 637t rx, the internal gyro had to be ABSOLUTELY still for it to initialize so im surprised you were even able to get it to work while holding the wing because it reads movement to the thousandths of an inch if you look at the telemetry screen for the gyro you will see

    Will you tell Ms Phillips that after I broke the battery strap the first time I put a battery in, and the took a piece of velcro and made another strap, it brought back memories of high school. The Home Economics room was actually 4 rooms with the divider walls knocked out. (I only walked past it, never set foot in that den of estrogen)
    But in 11th grade a new class was being offered. It was called "BACHELOR'S SURVIVAL". (To this day I can still hem a pair of pants, sew on a button, and if I had to, make my own shirt. Lot's of cooking crap was covered too, but it was the sewing that lasted a lifetime.
    Only question I had for you on the Conscendo was binding in Safe and having the AS3X on when Safe was off.
    I'm a month in with Covid-19. No fever, no cough, no stomach issues, just a lack of equilibrium/balance and the shakes. (I can't expo out the shakes, and I'd like to have AS3X on when Safe is off)

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  4 роки тому

      Jeff - Glad to hear you're still around!!! As for AS3X, it is ON when SAFE Select is off. There isn't a way to turn off AS3X, short of replacing the AR637TA, with a more robust and more expensive AR637T (the one that supports not only VARIO, but also Forward Programming).
      The good news is that you don't have to do a thing...you can just "turn off" the SAFE Select, and enjoy :)

Hope you choose to accept this mission! Thanks Brian.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 роки тому

      If you want spoilerons, it's not hard to setup, but you MAY have to default the AR637TA to be able to start from scratch...OR you can just go into wing type and try DUAL AILERONS or FLAPPERONS, then setup the flaps accordingly...don't forget to separate the LEFT and RIGHT ailerons, and verify the direction of output from the AS3X AND the controls.

    For those thinkiing of any new Horizon Hobby BNF models. the AR637T TX installed in these models is locked. That means if you ever crash or tire of the model, you either throw away a 120€ TX or are forced to buy a BNF of the same model and reinstall. Given how often Horizon retire models this may be a problem in future or likely you get charged to unlock. At the moment Horizon refuse to help you unlock the AR637T so it can be used in other models. Model is OK, its not a great glider but its OK. Also not super stiff (especially tail boom) as most reviews are informing and you may want to consider better servos.. also check control cables to elevator and rudder..,. they can slip.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  4 роки тому

      Mark, I agree that HH needs to make this SOOO much more easy. You may not be aware, and I'm not sure I can even say, but here it goes...the AR636 is going bye bye too...so every model that has an AR636B is going to get upgraded to include the AR637TA....not the "T" like you mentioned. The "T" is better, including the vario and forward programming capable, so the "TA" is the "economy" choice...but if you ask me, we ought to be able to jailbreak ANY of these Rx'es.

    42:00 I made a "V" out of 1/8in x 1/4 balsa that mounts on top of the servo flush with the top of the fuse with the added height of the double sided tape used and extends all the way back to keep the wires away from the moving servo arms. But even then you have to pay attention to keep the wire inside the V for the wing to sit flat so I attached a rubber band made of dental bands to the V at the back with a wire hook and just lightly stretch and wrap the rubber band around the wing wires once and then attach the free end to the hook in the back and that pulls the wires back where they need to go when putting on the wing so now after getting the rubber band the right length and tension I don't even have to look under the wing, and what was a real pain became a non-issue and I don't have to worry about a wire jamming up a servo. This was such an easy fix I'm surprised E-Flite didn't design the servo covers with walls on top doing the same thing. Just have to add a strip of tape or a tiny amount of glue to make sure the servo wires in the wing can't pull out from the light force of the rubber band pulling on the wires where the right hand angle to the servo connectors mounted vertical in the hole prevents separation even if they were a loose fit which they're not.
    Last issue with the wing is the small mounting screws that will likely get lost in the grass at some point so I used some silicon O-rings used in RC car shock absorbers that fit prefect putting pressure on the screws inside the holes so friction keeps the screws inside. Mine didn't need longer screws as the O-rings are 1.7mm wide before they compress, and they compress .7mm fairly easy and looks like the screws were 1 mm past the metal threads to start with. But after watching Brian crank out some G's I wanted to make sure and dang spent hours trying to figure out why E-Flight used what appears to be 4mm thick Silicon Bronze inserts for the wing bolts instead of a standard inexpensive metal nut. 2.34 mm is the width of a metal nut for the size screw and thread used and there's almost double that on 4 support points so even if you lose 1 mm of thread I think the plastic wing support will fail long before the metal parts do, and the wings will fold before the plastic fails, so seems like E-Flite really over engineered the wing mounting. But measure your screws and O-rings just to be safe if you put in O-rings to keep the screws from coming out as there's room to go longer to be on the safe side just in case you are one of the guys pulling enough G's to rip the turret off a tank.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  4 роки тому

      Nice idea about the servo wires!!!
      If you want to make a bolt/screw retainer, grab a small, thin piece of plastic, and pre drill the hole the JUST under the size of the threads, then just force the plastic onto the screws...then the additional thickness will not be a factor, and you can crank on the screws without that rubber deflection.

    • @JohnFHendry
      @JohnFHendry 4 роки тому

      @@BrianPhillipsRC Good idea...something else E-Flite could have done to make setup easier and avoid disappointment at the flying field due to losing a small part... bad enough to have to focus on not losing the big part with all the money in it;-)

    Hi Brian & Megan, great review and as always, nice camera work, if I purchase this it well be my third one, both of the first ones suffered from a design flaw, weak fuselage and weak aileron hinges, hopefully this new one has been corrected, I always tape my Y connectors before installing them, to easy for them to be pulled apart when trying to shove them in that small wing cavity and instead of taping on the elevator I hot glue them then I tape them, but I used a commercial packing tape, much stronger. Megan should do some cooking videos. You guys make these videos fun,great team work, just need to have your wife on camera a few times...

      Glad you enjoyed to cooking ;)
      As for this one holding up better. If you've had the original and Advanced, you will LOVE this one. It's WAY tougher. It screams like a sailplane should, and the frame is so much more rigid. The motor mount is METAL, which should have been true of the "S"...but overall, it doesn't lose it's docile flight if you want to do that.
      P.S. I've crashed and fixed my Conscendo S so many times, I lost count, and she's still kicking!

    Based on this video alone, I ordered a Conscendo, and it arrived this afternoon. That's how much I respect your videos!
    As a newbie, I have a hard time following some of your movements as you scroll through your transmitter during programming. Maybe go a little slower so it would be easier for folks like me to follow.
    P.S. More baking segments please.

      Here's a tip...you can slow down playback by clicking the GEAR icon while a video is playing on UA-cam ;) You can also watch in faster speeds!! Super nice feature, but you'll catch up soon, and you'll be on the other end of the spektrum when you're more familiar with the transmitter - GOOD LUCK Paul!
      Thanks for being here with us!

      @@BrianPhillipsRC I did the programming for my Conscendo this afternoon...first time I've even done anything other than 2 channel R/E. I started and stopped your video over and over again until I understood what you were doing...and it turned out fine. I did a few ginger tosses after sunset tonight to see if it was gliding OK. Third toss, I couldn't resist feeding in some throttle as it skimmed along the ground... and it was speck within 10 seconds. After I got it back in view, I actually had a hard time bringing it down! All the settings you called for seemed right to me. This plane is everything you said it was. (I plan on using it primarily as a glider, with an eye on windier days when my R/E floater bogs down.) Thanks for all your great work you two, we really appreciate it.

      Paul Gross I started bothering Brian 5 years ago when I first got into the sport. His build videos are second to none. His repair and upgrade videos are the best on UA-cam. And the humor with him and the camera crew (Ms Phillips, back in the old days, Esteban) make it a lot of fun to watch. That first year, for me at least was brutal. Trying figure out the Spektrum Controller, how to charge batteries, what should my High/Mid/Low rates be, etc. And I couldn’t wrap my head around Center of Gravity. So I blew it off. (I’ve got enough problems, I’ll worry about CG later...) As you can imagine there were lots of crashes with CG, poor flap to elevator deflection, but I watched a lot of “Brian Phillips” videos on foam repair. And to order an extra prop with every new plane I order.
      I think the Evolution is about the most perfect airplane I’ve ever flown. It’s great for beginners with SAFE. You can switch back and forth from SAFE to AS3X on the fly and it’s so docile it perfect for learning to do rolls, loops and somewhere down the road how to fly inverted. When pair this plane up with a 4s battery you can experience some unbelievable speeds. Another thing I like about the Evolution is the flight times. When you’re new and don’t have 50 to 100 batteries it’s nice to have a plane you cruise around with for 20+ minutes, change from SAFE to AS3X and change your rates. I went with High Rates 100%/20%, Mid Rates 70%/30% Low Rates 60%/30%. (Never needed to go to Low Rates)
      Since I received the 1st of 2 Evolutions it’s been the “Go To” plane to start the day at the field. Just to get the feel of the Controller, figure out the wind, and something to just fly relaxed. I don’t think I’ve ever adjusted the trim once after the build/setup. Again, it’s perfect, it’s fun, and a plane you get to grow into.

    I've been kicking around the thought of getting a glider lately. The Night Radian has been on the top of my list since its realease. However this Glider Looks Bad Ass!! And Id rather have this Bird than the Raidan. Put some Nav Lights and Led Lights for Night or Dusk Flying. Im we will You put lights on Her Brian. The wind noise is Absoulty Sweet to the ears....I think some kind of whistle or Stuka siren would be Neat to try? I hope you try the Valiant out soon Brian You will like that Bird alot too. Happy flyin Brian and Camera Crew....

      yeah, I checked the stats. The prop changed from the Conscendo S to Advanced. It wen from 9X6 (I think I got that right) to the new 9.5X7.5...I can say the prop doesn't fold as clean with the more aggressive pitch...but fair trade off, I think

    Excellent Demo Flight and I could not tell whether you liked that Plane or not ;-)
    Quick Question: Were you flying in complete Manual Mode or were you flying with stabilization turned ON....not Safe Mode but Stabilization?
    I'm thinking of getting this Plane and was considering getting the PNF Version with no Gyro.
    Thanks and I'll see you in the Air!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 роки тому +1

      I was flying with AS3X (stabilization) not SAFE (auto-leveling), except where I mentioned that I was...I don't fly in SAFE except to demonstrate the technology. The AS3X (Stabilization) can't be turned off in the BNF configuration, fyi.

    Hi Brian, on your Conscendo Evolution, have you ever looked at the Flight Log screen after a landing? When I look at mine, I see signal quality information only from one antenna and I wonder if that is normal. I know the receiver for that plane has two antennas but maybe it is normal for them to be considered one antenna because maybe it is two leads to the same receiver. Second of all, on mine on the flight log, I often see a number of "Holds" after a flight but there is a spectrum video that says that if you have even one hold it could mean that there is a problem. I have done a few range checks with my consciento and I get no holds when doing a range check it reduced power. But when I fly it I get between 2 and 5 holds typically even though usually I do not notice any brief loss of control while I am flying. I sent a support ticket into Horizon Hobby but I do not always get responses to those so I thought I would ask you also

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому

      I've never hear of this, and don't want to speak out of turn. Only issue I had on my Consendo was losing the motor, and prop also - prop blew up! Had to put on an aftermarket, which turned out to be good still, but less aggressive on speed ;(

      @@BrianPhillipsRC Too bad about your Conscendo prop 😞. Regarding my issues with holds and radio reception issues, I reached out to Horizon Hobby and they are going to send me a new receiver.
