I appreciate the knowledge. I'm not necessarily new to this but I did take a long break from it. Could you listen to a record for me and give me a lil feedback?
Shit is loooong journey, I've dropped 11 albums in 2 and half years. Doing all of my writing, engineering, recording, and 90percent of my beats........it definitely takes luck, finally got an email about a publishing deal, but still it's almost like there are some many damn road blocks, all the WRONG rappers have the position the real musically incline artists and producers should have, in my opinion
This is very educational. I'm 60. I have played guitar more than 50 years of my life. I have many original songs I made up. I always wanted to make people happy with my music. I'd like to spread my music to the world. Your video inspires me
By Evac that's great!! keep it up bro and the income will increase. can you tell me how do you sell your beats?? also link me your soundcloud I'd love to support.
Thank You for this video. I've been making beats a loooong time and I'm finally confident in the beats I make. But now learning business is kicking my butt lol. I don't want to have all these dope beats not go anywhere. I need to hear these artists on them. Watching videos like yours and DJPain1's, for example, are finally starting to clear the fog. Thanks for taking the time to do this :)
You need better quality sound. And try to flow with the beat a little more. It's gotta be somethin that instantly hooks people whether its because of the lyrics or just the sound.
bro no, I stop making music in 2004 after 25 albums 6 DVDs and 2 major label signings... I make over 50 k a year from digital. if you love yourself, make them pay something. And own your masters for that now and later money
Kato, as an artist and producer myself, I'd like to thank you for this video. Forreal, I've been doin music for 9 years and I've made progress over that time period. But this video really gave me more insight and pointers. Great Work, man
Im not knocking the advice, but plenty of people make money off if really terrible music. Suggesting that the reason a person isnt making money off of music is due to its quality doesnt seem to satisfy the question. This doesnt apply to me at all. Im just thinking that if lil savage sounding terrible can make money then a person semi decent should be able to do a bit better for themselves regardless.
River Travis no ur talking about ur personal preference of good or bad. I'm talking about "I just started making music two weeks ago". There IS a difference between the two. If u don't like what's popular, that's ok. But don't think that those guys just got in the game a month ago, no matter how "bad" it sounds to u.
Kato On The Track i can understand that but making a large amount of money and making good music are not the same thing. Even though i may think a song is bad and not prefer it, if someone else thinks its good and prefers it that doesnt make it good. In the same way even if the majority share that view that doesnt make it right. I think youre great and i thoroughly enjoy listening to most of the music youve produced (ive found a few "eh" songs but not many). Thank you for replying thats really cool. Theres definitely a way to sell your music no matter the quality and i think most people are looking for that answer; eg make it as addictive as drugs regardless of quality. Thats obviously not how to become a professional but it works for many to immediately make money. Telling someone to make a hit is different than suggesting that they take ten songs put it on a cd and go door to door making sales. Plenty of conversation in which case you can easily just say im wrong and youre a multi millionaire that knows what youre talking about. Im not knocking what youre saying, i think that as a successful person you might lend more practical advice to such a question. Im not trying to beef with kato or his team lord only knows. Im river aka lord ice raptor, i intend on winning your next contest. Since you did reply i figured i should put my name out for you to recognize in the future. Thanks, and keep being great!
Well that is the truth tbh. I am not a pro but I just do music for fun, and as I get way better on my craft, the social media numbers just increase a lot without me even trying. Focus on the quality of music first, talk about the advertising techniques etc later.

Kato you are my inspiration when I started making beats about a year ago. I'm not trying to sell beats since making beats is fun and not about the money, its good to realize that you must perfect your craft and make a quality sound.
That is true but in order to do that you have to spend boo coos of money on owning a beat mainly in order to distribute it with a company. You can lease but it only last for so long say 2500 yeah guess after that you can buy the beat only if it is not already sold. Artist's make sure you find the right distribution.
This video made me happy because I’m 6 years in almost 7 since I was 13 and haven’t made money and didn’t know if that was a problem or not . It felt like it was
Hello I read your licensing agreement and I'm interested to know why you don't let artists monetize their youtube videos if they leased your beat, wrote a song to it and uploaded it to youtube.
At 1:43 minutes, onward. This is tantamount to wanting to be a singer, initially, devoid of the voice, but one's putting in ten thousand hours into working with a mentor, studying, practicing and rehearsing -- and realizing, that the talent was not there at the outset, could this not be the same thing? Just as other endeavors -- things don't pan out.
