      100%.
First time I went to BJJ and my front game, strength and conditioning was so good that the only strategy they could use against me was to get me on my back.
A lot of the lads who were great at BJJ had strong wrestling backgrounds at the club I attended.

@@stevenhewes1990 man bjj is simply an extension to wrestling. It's the base of bjj. I trained bjj but I respect how much wrestling actually matters in it, I mean the freestyle American wrestling. Because even if bjj came from judo and Japanese jujitsu, all the maths and techniques and everything, the biggest part is the good old Western wrestling, the competitive spirit, the cardio, the strength, the speed etc

The strength and conditioning requirements for wrestling and jiu jitsu are very different. I wouldn't recommend incorporating as many big strength movements for a jiu jitsu fighter. Slower twitch muscle fibres that can endure are what helps win in jiujitsu

Jui jitsu muscle can only really be built with the motions of jiu jitsu, wrestlers always have a very aggressive strength based jiu jitsu, which leads to having weak bjj game. Jiu jitsu is about moving around the opponent, not moving the opponent around them.

Of course. Try to get on the mat as much as possible and really focus on the techniques for moves and counters. When strength training, make sure that you are mainly focusing on good movement. It's okay not to lift heavy in the beginning. If you repeat good technique for the first several months, it will be easier to build strength long term. Great question 💪

It’s not an either/or. The bench/squat/deadlift (power lifts) are incredibly beneficial, and the strength absolutely transfers. Olympic lifts can be great too, but they require significantly more training to master. If you are training a skilled lifter, then there’s no question, do both. If not, start with the power lifts, and as the athlete gets more skilled in the weight room, maybe work towards performing power AND Olympic lifts

You are limited in how high you can develop your peak level of performance if you neglect training in the weight room. Your pyramid is limited in its height by the size of its base. The base is built through basic strength training. In general the stronger you are overall the better condition you can get in to through more specialized sports specific training.
