@@MrKillerRC Yeah. I thought fury was a great ride but severely overrated. I honestly prefer a ride like magnum that makes me laugh the whole time because of how ridiculous the ride is.
Honestly I’m kinda annoyed at the enthusiasts who say “OrIoN iSnT a ReCoRdBrEaKeR sO iTs GonNa SuCk” A COASTER DOSENT NEED TO BREAK A RECORD TO BE GOOD!
Agreed that it doesn't need to break records to be good. Take boulder dash and voyage for example. I do however find Orion to be disappointing, especially since it's in the same park as diamond back. They didn't need a coaster like Orion. They should've gotten something that would become the new #1 in the park. Once I get the chance to go to King's Island, I expect Mystic Timbers to be my #1 in the park with Orion and diamondback trailing behind. I wouldn't be surprised if many enthusiasts prefer Diamondback over Orion.
I don't really care that Jersey Devil Coaster will be the tallest, fastest, and longest raptor coaster; I'm only excited for that coaster because it is an RMC and it's the first original coaster to come to Great Adventure since 2006. In my opinion, the records are only a bonus.
If anyone is smart, they'll realize the thrills that are yet to be tapped in the enclosed coaster style. With how cheap and thrilling single rail coasters are, and how relentless and tight they can be in their layouts, to build one in a warehouse so that you have the world's most thrilling dark ride would be easy. Indoor coasters that feature a lot of dark are instantly more intense due to the inability to expect many of the drops and turns, and you can theme them so many different ways.
With Cedar Point being my home park, I can say, I stopped caring about record breaking rides once I rode Maverick. Id love the focus to be on fun factors other than being the best of something. Id love to see theming to be on the rise!
The only records i care about are the ones that have the world in them. Like fastest in the world or tallest in the world, and not records like tallest coaster on the west coast and most inversions in north america.
Park: We have the Tallest coaster in the state, west of river X Me: Yeah.. there is only one other park in that area and it's children's park. A wild mouse is bigger than everything in that other park -_-
@@terrestrial9622 oh what I meant is that the smiler also holds most inversions in the uk, but that doesnt mean you don't care because it also holds the world record
Great video.👍🏻HP is my home park. Candymonium isn’t breaking any records outside of Hershey Park but I think it will be a huge draw for the park along with the Chocolatetown expansion. I’m just excited to have a new coaster to ride!
@@ArrowThrills There may be a height debate with Hershey and surrounding locations as the park is not far from a major hospital with regular medical helicopter traffic. As well as Harrisburg International Airport, and the Fort Indiantown Gap Army base. Edit: The FAA filed an Obstruction Analysis. "The coaster has been in the works for a few years. According to a Federation Aviation Administration filing, Hersheypark sought and received approval for construction of a new coaster with a height of 220 feet -- eight feet taller than Skyrush, the park’s tallest coaster. The height would classify the new coaster as a “hypercoaster,” a designation among coaster enthusiasts applying to any coaster 200 feet or taller. The FAA conducted an Obstruction Evaluation/Airport Airspace Analysis."
That Hagrid Motorbike ride is really really good. I'm not a coaster freak, but if I were picking one coaster at Universal Orlando, I'd pick Hagrid every time. I rode Hulk, Rip Ride Rockit, Revenge of the Mummy and Hagrid last Sunday and Hagrid was by far my favorite. Easily worth the 90 minute wait at park opening.
@@XscreamThrills I mean... not always, lmao... but yeah, seems they have to be a little more thoughtful with their designs because of the restrictions in place and the extra effort clearly leads to some great rides despite the limits.
I'm building a park in planco, and rather than focussing on stats, I focus on quality(as in positive and negative gs) think of it as a well themed KD, and w/ the supposed wing coaster
This is a subject I have been thinking about a lot myself and I'm so glad you touched upon it. How do you keep up when it's always Bigger, Taller, Faster. I don't know how these parks do it. Ultimately it's the patrons who are gonna pay with higher prices. Well crafted, comfortable, high thrill coasters are really what I'm interested in. SFNE is my home park and Twisted Cyclone is a perfect example of that. I would love to see more on this subject. Thank you.
I completely agree. I love how the coasters in Europe go all out with their theming, while delivering a quality coaster. I don't care so much about the records, I prefer a unique experience.
I applaud you! This was a well stated video and explaination. I have to agree with you, Europe has it right, submerse me in the story. Make me feel like I am living the story through the ride. Taron is a very good example of this. I feel if parks (SF and CF) did more of this with the roller coasters, the crowds would be even bigger!
I can tell you right now as a Kennywood employee that there's a strong chance that Steel Curtain broke some attendance records. Heck, the day it opened, the ski lift was running, and that thing isn't on unless the top parking lot is being filled in. So I'd say there's no doubt that the ride broke some attendance records at Kennywood.
I have never seen the ski lift open, I won't believe it was operating until I see some video proof. I've been there multiple times in the past few years, some on really busy days. Never seen it operate. But regardless, I think Steel Curtain did good numbers for the park!
I don't think it's the end of record breakers at all. There's still going to be demand for the tallest, longest, fastest, steepest, most inversions, strongest G forces (though this one's kinda capped out), quickest launch, etc. But parks are definitely focusing more on ride experience, and when we do see another recordbreaker it's not going to exist just to break the record. Heck, even in the tail end of "recordmania" we saw more of a focus on ride experience. Fury isn't just the tallest coaster with a conventional lift, it's also an absolutely insane high-intensity ride packed with crazy G-forces and tons of airtime. Smiler doesn't just have the most inversions, it's also constantly giving you hang time through every single one of those stalled inversions and doing it with style with it's unique Orwellian themeing. On a separate note, I do NOT want to see sports team themed coasters become a trend. Sure, it brings in the crowds, but it tends to bring in the _wrong_ kinds of crowds - the sports hooligans. I'd rather _not_ see amusement parks become yet another battleground for crazed sports fans.
There is another reason Orion might not have taken the record away from Fury, there is a rumor going around that it was Mason that dropped the ball, and denied plans that CF.KI had, they were planning Orion to be 330, but the plans was denied, so they made it 287, since the city did not want a coaster over 300 ft. I don't know if its true, but the person said the original plans for Orion is at the city of Mason building, if anyone wants to try and debunk it. Cedar Fair has been doing very well, and just posted a record 3rd quarter, so it seems unlikely the price tag is a reason, Leviathan was 306, Fury was then 325 and Cedar Fair always says they like to up their own records. I'm sure they could have made Orion a 330 ft coaster with $30 million if they really wanted too. Mason has been known for being really strict. Steel Vengeance is bringing in the crowds, people love it, Cedar Point is doing extremely well this year. Parks don't just build these big coasters for a one year boost in attendance and profits, they do it for the long term, gold passes for Cedar Point are selling like hotcakes, plus Cedar Fair showed a 6% increase in attendance, revenue up 8% net revenue up 7%. No I don't think it's the end of record breaking coasters.
Mystic Timbers Fanboy I don’t know if it’s true or not. The only plans we know thats 100% is the ones we already know about. I’ve only seen one person say this is what happened. It doesn’t help that Mason has been known for being kind of strict, and doing things that the park doesn’t care for. We know Cedar Fair could have done it, they have the money, we know they’ve always talked about outdoing their previous coasters, take Valravn at Cedar Point, and then beating it with Yukon Striker at Canada’s Wonderland. Then Orion comes around, and people expect it to break some of Fury’s records, and it doesn’t. The vertical drop is nice, but it’s barely a Giga. It is just really strange, that cf would go backwards, not just by a little bit either, but a lot, if this is what they really wanted for KI. I doubt it was.
I think it also has to do with the increasing marketshare of launched coasters that enable entirely different design approaches than the traditional style of giant fucking lift hill followed by an assortment of hills and swooping turns. Not that those aren't fun, but they're very expensive, and I expect the future in the hands of multi-launches, switch tracks and twisting, ground hugging layouts. Personally I'm more interested in firsts than in records anyway. Records can be bought, firsts have to be invented. Money versus smarts. For example the upcoming F.L.Y. coaster, the world's first launched flying coaster. It's an entirely new thing, not just an old thing but taller or faster, so it's exciting.
Great points. Well said. I agree! Being an enthusiast, I've always said a rollercoaster doesn't have to be the tallest, fastest or longest to be among the best. I would like to see an increased trend toward theming as well. Great theming and unique ride elements like BGW's Verbolten or Dollywood's Mystery Mine really add to the allure of the ride.
I'd love to see more interesting detail oriented rides. For example I'd love to see another ride similar to Volcano, with the themeing, the mountain and all.
Longest I’ve ever waited for Hagrids was 1 hour, I’ve waited as low as 18 minutes before. It still has the longest lines in IOA though, only problem is they close the line at 3. Just see it as the better version of cheetah hunt.
"Just see it as the better version of cheetah hunt." You do realize you just compared a low-intensity family ride to a high-intensity Intamin LSM Launch Coaster, right?
@JJV1224 Relative to something like Hagrid's, yes. Cheetah Hunt has higher speeds, higher G-forces, an inversion and much more powerful launches. It's no Fury, Maverick or SV, but it still has its place in the "extreme thrill" category, while Hagrid's is more of a high-tier family ride like Firechaser, Verbolten and Thirteen, with the themeing levels of a Disney mine train.
The thing about the UK is not that our rides are bad, not at all, but the quantity of them. They are only 3 main big parks in the UK: Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, and Blackpool Pleasure Beach. Alton Towers have too many restrictions to count and cannot build over 65ft. Thorpe Park doesn't have the money or space Alton towers have and are also placed under a 30m height limit (Stealth is a big exception) and Black Pool Pleasure Beach have hardly any land and money, and also has planning restrictions. There's no over BIG parks in the UK. Drayton Manor isn't innovating and is closing rides left and right, flamingo land isn't a theme park, there's literally no theming, and lightwater valley have had their fame stolen by the crash of The Twister and also was not really a theme park.
im excited for orion and itll be my first time to King's Island next spring. a note on steel vengance, alot of its reputation as a great coaster has been tarnished by high down times and opening several hours after the park opens its doors on a fairly constant basis. in short, its been a maintenece nightmare for cedar point.
A great example of this would be various of the coasters at Efteling, in the Netherlands (specifically, Baron 1898 and De Vliegende Hollander / The Flying Dutchman). These are absolutely unimpressive by any quantitative metric, you could even call them small - but they're still very popular due to their fantastic themeing and overall experience, including the queue.
@@daniellalloyd1082 I wish I could have it as my all time favorite coaster, but the fact that I haven't been on it yet holds me away from it, if I would have been, it would 100% be :)
7:21 wow..I had no idea that the park I go to literally every single year's new for 2018 coaster, Icon was relevant enough to get compared to these other European coasters! I've not ridden it...someone help me find a good coaster to experience a first inversion on please..but I know it's awesome and it deserves all this! The UK's most ICONic park is going places! (I don't get to go to more than one park a year really...and Blackpool Pleasure Beach is the only one my brother ever wants to visit..so there's that)
I love Steel Vengeance, but Maverick and The Beast (especially in the dark!) are two of my favorite rides and Beast, while it still has a length record of some sort I think, is an old girl, yet still wins people's choice awards 40 years on. Heck, Millenium is still super loved and it's a long way from being a record holder now days. Build more great, coasters, who cares if it sets a record! King's Island is a fairly local park to me and I'm super excited to ride a B&M Giga, I'm sure it'll be silky smooth and a ton of fun. I do want KI or CP to build an RMC T-Rex. Doesn't need to be 400' tall or anything, just make it awesome.
I completely agree that coaster stats aren't really the deciding factor on whether or not someone is going to visit a park. And I really do hope there's a bigger focus on theming. I'm a fan of amusement parks in general, not just roller coasters (though I do love them dearly). For years large North American park chains like Six Flags, which like to keep everything nice and cheap, have seen theming as an additional cost instead of a potential cost saving measure. They saw theming as the domain of Disney and Universal. I was pleased when West Coast Racers was announced at my home park of Magic Mountain because it appears that Six Flags might be changing its tune. Premiere Rides coasters are fairly cheap, but still really fun and thrilling. Adding the West Coast Customs theming and IP to it is a stroke of genius. Granted, I'm not thrilled with how they further cut costs on the theming and the area the coaster resides in. But I suppose it's a good start for a chain that hasn't really spent big bucks (without Saudi investors) in decades. Either way, West Coast Racers doesn't really break any records whatsoever (4 launches isn't the most of any coaster in the world). But I think the added value of the IP they're using will be a bigger draw.
Some of my favorite coasters of all time (including but not limited to California Screamin'/Incredicoaster at DCA, Space Mountain at Disneyland, Colossus the Fire Dragon at Lagoon, etc.) don't come even *close* to breaking any records (at least not ones that can't be considered pure gimmicks). I love them not because they have impressive stats, but for one simple reason: they're just plain *fun...* Which is really all a roller coaster needs to be. If it isn't that, then its stats are completely meaningless.
Honestly hershey represents everything you said in this video non of their rides really broke and records but all of them are still wildly acclaimed by gp and enthusiasts and rather then a carnival ride plopped down they really try blending it to the area it's in with minor theming but still tying everything together and making it look nice an example would be storm runner and sidewinder their stations are similar innstyle to the area they are in and they are it themed pioneer frontier and candemonium to its themes tonchocolate and looks beautiful no broken records just a hyper coaster with a unique outranked airtime hill
Hershey used to be the closest park to me(that was good) and I regret not getting on coasters as a kid, I only have lightning racer comet and sdl as credits :(
I'm seriously surprised you didn't bring up Copperhead Strike in this video. It along with Hagrid are perfect examples of what you are talking about here. Copperhead broke zero records, just presented a fun, unique, and well themed ride, and the public ate it up. This year at Carowinds was one of the busiest I've seen. At least as far as Cedar Fair is concerned, smaller themed attractions are what I expect to see for the next several years.
I think the new vekoma models won't break records but bring us more theming. They are already quite popular in Europe and it might be the future of roller coasters... even if RMC is building bigger ans bigger hybrids and working on the T-rex which could break some records too. However, Europe has always had roller coaster more focused on theming and usually smaller than North America, so this defference may not change.
I was expecting this to be more about what I have wondered about. At some point I would expect the fastest, and most extreme coaster would push the limit of safety. By that I mean there is a limit to what forces the human body can endure, and they have to be built for the low end of that average.
Coasters in Europa are in fact also breaking records, the same way coasters in America do. Taron (mentioned in the end, and also a great coaster) is the longest multi-launch coaster (of this type) in the world. Also, it is the launch coaster with the most self-crossings (116) in the world. And the fastest multi-launch. And the coaster with the strongest LSM. Helix, when it was built, was advertised as the fasted multi-launch coaster in Europe (now beaten by Taron). Before Taron, Novgorod (at Hansa Park) was the one with the strongest LSM. Even smaller parks take part in this record breaking advertising, same way in Europe as in the US. Toverland advertises Troy as the fasted, longest, and highest wooden coaster in BeNeLux. The only other woodies in BeNeLux are: "Joris en de draak" (NL), "Loup-Garou" (BE), and "Heidi" (BE). Sometimes they even give the records as "XXX best wooden rolercoaster in the Netherlands", which just means it beats Joris (both great rides, but different concept with it's double tracks, so not even comparable). And similarly Fenix was advertised as the longest wing coaster in Europa (only competing against "Flug der Dämonen", "Raptor", and "The Swarm"). So, I guess marketing departments are similar everywhere. You have to try to get some superlative to advertise a new coaster, even if it may be somewhat meaningless.
Orlando might not have the record breakers but I do enjoy the theming more. I like that the coasters at sea world and Busch gardens are incorporating animals. I like that universal is incorporating movies, I'm excited to see and ride the new Jurassic world rollercoaster. And haggrids motorbike was very good without the huge drops and inversions.
Another future example that you could of used the the Raptor Jurassic Park coaster in IOA. It’s not going to be the biggest or fastest of any record breaking numbers at least that we know of but the fact that it’s a story revolving around the raptors from one of the greatest movies of all time is what is building a lot of excitement
XscreamThrills Yeah, it’s just a shame how rare we build coasters. Hopefully Thorpe Park gets a hyper on a good GCI or hopefully, a ground up RMC (but that won’t happen)
This Moment when you live in germany and phantasialand is your home Park and the people from america wish they hat something like taron which is an amazing coaster With one of the Best theming in the World, but I want to have more of those big coasters here in Europe and some more rmcs but now the rmc's are slowly comming to europe. I think it would be better if you had both. Big coasters (they Dont have to break records) and also smaller coasters With awsome theming and nice compact layouts.
A lot of European parks have a lot of regulations how they can build new rides, mostly to do with noise and/or visibility. Both Phantasialand and Alton Towers can't have their coasters seen from outside the park (thats why they build down into the ground and put up theming elements around them). So height and speed records are (mostly) out of the question. Taron still opened as the fastest and longest multi-launch, the most intense LSM-launch and the most intersecting point and F.L.Y. will be the longest flying coaster and first launched flying coaster. Alton still has the inversion record.
I definitely think that they shouldn't worry about records, and just build excellent rides. Storm Chaser isn't breaking any world records, but it might be my new favorite coaster I've ever ridden. Creativity, not records, is the key.
I agree that great theming would be a great thing. Unfortunately, theming in general has been pushed aside to save money. I also love a coaster that uses the terrain. They are so much more fun. But again, money has resulted in clearing land completely and throwing the ride on a slab of cement or field of grass, gravel or dirt. Great theming is the first victim of cost cutting. I couldn't care less if a ride breaks records, I want the whole experience to be exciting and fun.
I think a coaster needs a certain height to actually work with the energy coming from the drop or launch but at at some point it simply won't matter anymore as it gets blurry and indefinite to distinguish height/speed/angle etc. All that remains is the experience made up of the intensity and how it is delivered. There are too few gigas though ;)
I agree. The best coasters at Kings Dominion are the ones with great themeing. 305 and dominator are both really boring to me because they are just kindof plopped in a field. Flight of Fear is the best coaster in any park ever, and that has a lot to do with the incredible theming it once had. (They've torn out 75% of it over the years.)
Well thought out video, i agree that the actual meaningful records probably wont be broken anytime soon except maybe in the UAE. The KI one made me laugh...tallest fastest longest steel coaster in the park? 😬
Still waiting on that next epic ride for Six Flags over Georgia. Their last new ride was Dare Devil Dive which was okay and the RMC’d re tracking of Georgia Cyclone (which was honestly one of the weakest RMCs out there). I want to see that next big Knock it out of the park ride. Might just need to keep my sights set on Dollywood lol.
I see you've mentioned Polish roller coasters such as Lech Coaster or Zadra. So now he have a good example how it works and what people prefer. For now, we've got two major amusement parks in Poland - Legendia with amazing Lech Coaster and Energylandia, which will soon have the most roller coasters in the world. Legendia is known for its old rides and great theming, Energylandia is "the record breakin" one. And guess what - Legendia is often looking just empty, with a very few guests in. Usually you don't even have to wait to ride a Lech Coaster, can you imagine? It's one of the best coasters in Europe! And on the other hand, we've got Energylandia. Literally every coaster is advertised as best, in some categories. Speed (Mirabilandia's Divertical clone) is the highest and fastest water coaster (again, it's a clone), Hyperion is the highest mega coaster in Europe (ofc people tend to think that it's the highest coaster ever) and Zadra was considered as wooden coaster, though it's a hybrid one. And Energylandia attracts hundreds of thousands people every year, literally building new amazing coasters and a few flat rides with great theming every year. Their marketing often just lies, but people are falling for that and coming in. Remember, we are talking about Poland. Our first, new rollercoasters were Energuś, Dragon and Mayan (Vekoma) in 2015, in Energylandia. Earlier, we've got old Soquet from 1987 and some 90' Pinfari, which usually break someone's legs. Here, where people don't know either many coasters or amusement parks, any broken rekord matters. Legendia chose theming and their financial situation is getting worse every year.
I'd love to see an increase in themed coasters. Maybe Copperhead Strike will inspire others. I would really love to see more coasters like Verbolten or more updated Eurofighters with Mystery Mine level theming. Even Flight of Fear is a fun coaster that is significantly elevated by its theming. I don't need Cedar Point or Six Flags to attempt to beat Expedition Everest or other Disney/Universal coasters in terms of the theming itself. But quality theming really makes for a more entertaining experience, regardless of stats.
Definitely agree on the theming thing. I still get a kick out of thunder mountain and space mountain while also enjoying x2 and tatsu at SFMM 😁. Rode nemesis a long time ago and still remember it as awesome. Very small compact footprint but the theming and near miss elements are unforgettable lol. I’m looking forward to see how the west coast racers guaranteed dueling element makes it fun. I know that twisted colossus goes from my 3rd fave at SFMM to a very close second behind X2 when it duels but it’s so rare. The high five is epically close and when you see the train come under you in the top gun stall it is insane haha. IMHO coasters don’t have to be big and fast to be fun. Yes those elements are fun but I enjoy a cleverly designed ride just as much. That being said I do believe that a park needs at least one or two shock and awe behemoth type rides to give people a complete coaster park experience. My 2 cents ✌️😋
Just look at Superman Ride of Steel (originally named) @ Six Flags New England. Consistently top rated coaster with no records. Damn I've loved that ride.
Rollercoasters don't need to have a record breaking aspect to be amazing. Theming, airtime and just FUN is important! A rollercoaster is supposed to be fun, and not record breaking.
I'm surprised you didn't mention that Disney (and universal) have been doing this for years. Space mountain is still my favorite roller coaster of all time as that (and the Matterhorn bobsleds) revolutionized the coaster scene when they were built.
I'm sorry, I can heavily disagree, I would take a front row and verbolten, any day compared to any "diney minetrain" i still dont know why disney still doesn't have a giga
Correction: There are more than two single rail coasters •Some alpine coasters are single rail •There is a suspended spinning rollercoaster in Germany (I think) It was in RCT3 as 'Skyrider' (I think) •Skyline's rides (Harley Quinn Crazy Coaster and Tidal Twister) could be called rollercoasters. There are some others probably. Also Hagrids Motorbike Adventure also broke the record 'Most expensive rollercoaster: $300 million'
going out on a limb here, IF someone builds a 500ft coaster that is safe im guessing Cedar Point would get it first as they were the first to go over 200(Magnum XL 200) 300(Millenium Force) and 400ft(Top Thrill Dragster)
The creative track space within the current record boundaries is vastly untouched. A great example is how I305 opened in 2010, yet SkyRush was made later, was much smaller than I305 and arguably a formidable rival to I305 in terms of dishing out an intense ride that can make coaster-geeks revel and make GPs 'tap out'. It didn't break world records, but it didn't have to in order to be an intense ride sought after globally by enthusiasts. I still have a strong feeling that people are going to underestimate what that 12th row in Jersey Devil will be capable of, even though the coaster is not a 'kingda-dragster' record breaker.
I agree what you sad. I also think when coaster brake the records just forget everything else like: Formula Rosa is fastest but it forgets. The layout is actually forceless lounch(you feel speed but acceleration) bank turns and some airtime hills and it isn't really good at it. Same with kingdaka just lounch, top hat and airtime hill that isn't much it's there for brake the records. Steel dragon 2000 it looks like morgan hyper I'm not really fan of a layout (but I didnt ride it). Smiler have like what 5 corcscrews but I think is better rides than 3 before couse is so disorienting and roughness really doesn't bother me. So actually is maybe better if coaster isn't really record breaking.
Don't worry in the UK we have 2 issues, our two "top" parks are both owned by Merlin. Thorpe park is lacking investment with no new coaster in near a decade. And when coasters by Merlin get announced its usually a "world's first" gimmick creating a one trick pony coaster (like thirteen at Alton towers)
Well, to be honest, they will hold EVERY world record for a multi-launched flying coaster until someone decides to also build one of those. Never the less, I am very excited to see how it will turn out. Can't wait for 2020 season when it will be finished.
I think park owners should be more focussed on the whole experience indeed. Here in Europe theming the attractions is a real big thing. In my opinion theming and a good story line add more value to the ride than any record breaking features. A great example of superb theming is the B&M Divecoasters Baron 1898 in Efteling, The Netherlands. The ride is simply gorgious themed and has a fantastic storyline but has never been a record breaker. It's just the whole experience that makes it an amazing ride wich attracts coaster enthousiasts for mall over the world.
Also, the saying is supposed to go "you can't have your cake and eat it too", have as in own; in other words, if you eat your cake you don't have it anymore, so you cannot have [or be in possession of] your cake, as well as being able to eat it with it still existing (fun)
Well I've said it elsewhere and I'll say it here (regarding Orion). I didn't think it would be bigger than Fury 325; but I was expecting something bigger than I305 or MF. As for records, I want to see something break double digits in terms in inversions on a coaster in the USA
I definitely do think North America has reached its peak in record breaking competition among other parks, would like to see more themed rides, even Carowinds is pushing this with Copperhead Strike
I just think Cedar Fair needs to do some more advertising on TV (not in park, like Six Flags). The GP doesn’t know when a new coaster is being built, and so it wouldn’t make too much sense for an increase in attendance to happen. Additionally, everyone knows who Six Flags is, but you ask the average person who Cedar Fait is they look at you like you’re crazy; Cedar Fair needs to establish a brand.
I like record breaking coasters. Top thrill dragster and Millennium Force are top of the list because of speed and size. I can't wait for Busch Gardens to engulf on a giga coaster. Iron Gwazi in addition to Sheikra with a giga coaster would rank Busch gardens with Cedar Pointe. A dream of mine since I've moved away from Ohio to Florida permanently is for any park in Florida to outmatch Cedar Point and nice Kings Island with addition of Orion. I live big tall fast record breaking coasters. It means we are the best and I have season passes.
Just look at wickerman they didn't say this coaster is the blah blah blah wooden coaster in England but the theming is immense and this is why it gets a 2hr queue on peak days
No offense but as someone who lives near KI and goes there annually, I would have figured Orion to be the first giga coaster with maybe an inversion. Nothing crazy but maybe a dive loop, inline twist, or corkscrew. While I'm excited we have a giga coaster it still feels like we got son'd by Cedar Fair. To me (just my opinion) it just feels like a taller Diamondback (B&M did that ride too). Hopefully the ride turns out to be great but it feels like something is missing to really make this ride stand out. Especially with Millennium Force in the same state and Fury 325 being owned by the same family of park owners.
normal people who wanna go to kings island for some fun and some thrills: that'll be so cool that king's island will have a giga coaster! i'm so excited! privileged coaster enthusiasts: iT dOeSnT bReAk aNy rEcOrDs
VestedUTuber yall just don't appreciate stuff like normal people who don't have the money to go places to ride different rollercoasters do. Orion is gonna be the closest giga coaster to where i live and that'll be true for a lot of people and then we see comments saying iTs nOt FuRy 29736:82 or whatever lmao
@@ainsleyisbell The "clowns" I was referring to were the "privileged enthusiasts" you mentioned, not you or the GP as a whole. You'll find that most enthusiasts agree with you, even if they do have a preference for more intense rides. The people who claim that rides are only good if they break records are just idiots who make other enthusiasts look bad. Next time, try _not_ immediately jumping to conclusions.
doesn't matter to me if it doesn't break a record so long as i have fun riding it is all that really matters. like with pantheon coming. yea it'll break records, but i personally see it as a fun ride i'm easily the most excited for right now.

Yah but Orion just isn’t anything new, it doesn’t need to break records, it just needs to be interesting and somewhat original.

Quality over quantity is the way forward for coasters, some of my favourite coasters are nowhere near record-breaking they're just great rides!
👍
I'm building a park in planco, and rather than focussing on stats, I focus on quality(as in positive and negative gs) think of it as a well themed KD, and w/ the supposed wing coaster
What if... Both?
This is a subject I have been thinking about a lot myself and I'm so glad you touched upon it. How do you keep up when it's always Bigger, Taller, Faster. I don't know how these parks do it. Ultimately it's the patrons who are gonna pay with higher prices. Well crafted, comfortable, high thrill coasters are really what I'm interested in. SFNE is my home park and Twisted Cyclone is a perfect example of that. I would love to see more on this subject. Thank you.
Wicked Cyclone is a great example. Its small, but it packs a punch!
Oops! Wicked Cyclone. How did I get the mixed up.

Wow it's rare that I so totally agree with a coaster nerd's opinions but I think you nailed it here!
Thanks! Glad you joined the team 🤓
Agreed. Huuge difference the day before it opened vs the day of 😬
I don't think it's the end of record breakers at all.
I haven't heard this before but good points!
Mason is pretty stupid why not get a 330 ft giga whoever made the decision should be fired on God 💯
Hopefully the new rumored wing coaster will be heavily themed!
As long as the volcano doesn't keep its post-launch segments from being great, that is

"Just see it as the better version of cheetah hunt."
You do realize you just compared a low-intensity family ride to a high-intensity Intamin LSM Launch Coaster, right?
@JJV1224
Relative to something like Hagrid's, yes.
@JJV1224 I think universal was dumb scrapping Dragon Challenge it could have gotten relocated.

Grass is always greener on the other side
Idris-FromTheEliteFew♠️💯⚜️ we have some great roller coasters in the UK idk what you’re on about?
The UK has the record for the most inversions on a coaster. We broke our own record aswell.
I live uk? Infact I live cornwall which is pretty far from Alton towers, but we have some amazing coasters and parks!
im excited for orion and itll be my first time to King's Island next spring. a note on steel vengance, alot of its reputation as a great coaster has been tarnished by high down times and opening several hours after the park opens its doors on a fairly constant basis. in short, its been a maintenece nightmare for cedar point.

Its always crazy seeing coaster track shake, steel vengeance dropping shook the track did you see that?

Copperhead is a great example! 👍

You're welcome
I love the idea of awesome thrills paired with rich themes and story lines. Few people really care about breaking records.
Love this! Breaking a record doesn't equate to a quality ride.
Well that's interesting to hear that marketing remains the same everywhere.
I agree with your statement here. I truly think theming, and just pure fun will be a bigger draw in the future.
(8:14) Yes Smiler. We are talking to you... 😂😂
Can't wait for this coaster!

@@alexpines5123 oh yes I agree
Creativity is what draws me to an attraction
I agree that great theming would be a great thing. Unfortunately, theming in general has been pushed aside to save money. I also love a coaster that uses the terrain. They are so much more fun. But again, money has resulted in clearing land completely and throwing the ride on a slab of cement or field of grass, gravel or dirt. Great theming is the first victim of cost cutting. I couldn't care less if a ride breaks records, I want the whole experience to be exciting and fun.
Terrain coasters are the best!
Exactly.
Yeah, let's be honest rita sucks
I can't wait for Lagoons Primordial. It's going to be awesome and wont break any records, but it will be a really fun interactive coaster!
Well thought out video, i agree that the actual meaningful records probably wont be broken anytime soon except maybe in the UAE. The KI one made me laugh...tallest fastest longest steel coaster in the park? 😬

Dollywood might have something good in the works! SFG, you might have to wait awhile!
There's a lot you can do with a smaller budget than Expedition Everest. 👍
It was nice to see Nemesis and Wickerman from my home park in the UK featured, I'll subscribe!
In general, parks will build what best fits their vision based on design and cost.
Thanks for your two cents! 😉
Just look at Superman Ride of Steel (originally named) @ Six Flags New England. Consistently top rated coaster with no records. Damn I've loved that ride.
It's a great coaster! 👍
Correction: There are more than two single rail coasters
•Some alpine coasters are single rail
•There is a suspended spinning rollercoaster in Germany (I think) It was in RCT3 as 'Skyrider' (I think)
•Skyline's rides (Harley Quinn Crazy Coaster and Tidal Twister) could be called rollercoasters.
You have a GREAT point!
Great video. Good points.
2020 F.L.Y. Phantasialand ... world’s longest and first multi-launched flying coaster
Well, to be honest, they will hold EVERY world record for a multi-launched flying coaster until someone decides to also build one of those.
Never the less, I am very excited to see how it will turn out. Can't wait for 2020 season when it will be finished.
Oh well if steel prices are going up looks like we're going to have to look to GCI and GG to provide the next generation of record breaking rides! ;)
Don't have any problems with that 😉
I think park owners should be more focussed on the whole experience indeed.
I think it's only a matter of time before we get a coaster in the states with 10+ inversions.
Just a small correction: Zadra is 206ft tall so Iron Gwazi won’t break that record, but rather be tied with Zadra for tallest Hybrid.
Energylandia is advertising Zadra as a “wooden coaster” though
Lol yeah I saw this
Still a Hybrid. I DON’T CARE HOW SOME THEME PARK IN POLAND ADVERTISES IT.
Story coasters are amazing. I would love to see more
Your ending said it all, perfect.
I definitely do think North America has reached its peak in record breaking competition among other parks, would like to see more themed rides, even Carowinds is pushing this with Copperhead Strike
I think Copperhead Strike was them testing the waters with a different kind of attraction
XscreamThrills Cedar Fair is probably gonna move forward with this with smaller yet still big editions to their attractions
I wonder when RMC will build that 500 ft strata coaster but Full length?
🤷♂️
Valid points but I still want a 500 ft lift coaster and would surely travel to ride it.
Im sure will get it soon!
Real coaster enthusiasts: Shut up, you clowns. You're making us look bad.
@@ainsleyisbell
The "clowns" I was referring to were the "privileged enthusiasts" you mentioned, not you or the GP as a whole. You'll find that most enthusiasts agree with you, even if they do have a preference for more intense rides. The people who claim that rides are only good if they break records are just idiots who make other enthusiasts look bad.
Next time, try _not_ immediately jumping to conclusions.
VestedUTuber oops i misunderstood sry bout dat
Orion is to similar to diamondback.
doesn't matter to me if it doesn't break a record so long as i have fun riding it is all that really matters. like with pantheon coming. yea it'll break records, but i personally see it as a fun ride i'm easily the most excited for right now.
Im super excited for Pantheon!
Breaking records is fine, but a coaster just needs to be a fun ride to be good. Bigger isn’t always better. Think Kingda Ka
I can, but it doesn’t mean it will be the best thing ever. I’ve ridden 100 foot rollercoasters that are better than a 200 foot tall ride in the same park
