5:41 There is another reason. Speed. B&M Doesn't like to stress their brakes that much, you can see this on nearly all their large scale rides. So instead of slamming to a stop, they have the train hit the brakes at a lower speed. They do this on their Giga's by raising the height of the brake run. Orion and Levi are shorter in length, so they carry more speed into the brake run. That's why their brake runs are that much taller compared to Fury 325. Fury has a much longer layout, so it doesn't carry the same amount of speed into the brake run.
@@XscreamThrills Also on what F-4Ace said, these redundant safety systems has yielded them a perfect safety record. Think about it, have you ever heard of B&M trains colliding? Nope never. My guess for the long break runs is, that they function as individual blocks allowing for more trains to operate, also having the break run that high off the ground reduces the amount of energy the breaks have to absorb. If KI had a certain budget for Orion available B&M couldn't have made the ride longer to lose more momentum so they went with a tall break run to reduce maintenance costs.

Yeah all in all it just seems like they wanted this coaster just so they can say they have a ''giga coaster'' and can attract many people. But it's just a very short coaster, If they just made the coaster a lot less tall they could probably make it a lot longer and add more special elements
I’ve heard that B&M has the ability to do inversions on their hyper/giga models, but just haven’t yet. I’m not sure how true that is but I love the inclusion of it here.
The train could do it. But the restraints would have to be changed so that if the ride loses speed and ends up dangling upside-down, riders would not fall out. I can say with how I ride the clamshell restraints, I would not be safe😂 The reason they don't do this is because it completely recategorizes the ride in the eyes of normal riders and puts a limit on potential ridership

Brandon not really, most of the expenses in steel come from the supports, so if u were to have a 350 drop and then stay low to the ground, it could be longer & cheaper than fury
I definitely like your layout much better. Even though I think the actual layout will be good, yours is much more interesting, especially with that inversion.
They do the long break runs for capacity. The lock runs are long because they have an extra block that the train will just clear as another clears the lift. Banshee also has the extra long break run because there's an extra block in the back, and that's how they avoid adding a MCBR.
The break runs are like that for two reasons one being a fail safe if the mid course fails and the other being that it is easier to put the trains away at night
This layout is flawless. If this was the actual layout for Orion this will be the only giga in the world for anyone to break the record for a while. Great job.👍
I think that Orion is going to be one of the most underrated coasters opening this year because height is not everything and you can see that with mystic timbers one of the other coasters in the park
On the version you made that doesn’t go inverted looked pretty cool. If the right to left turn was at the peak of the hill you might be able to get some good laterals and airtime
I’ll be going to Kings Island next year, as a coaster fan from Florida, it’ll be either my 3rd or 4th giga since I’ll be doing I-305 and Fury in the spring and don’t know if I’ll be going to here or cedar point first, but as someone that doesn’t have very big coasters other than Mako, and soon to be Iron Gwazi, looking forward to riding all of these next year, as Florida is filled with B&M’s and Mako is my number 2 after riding Lightning Rod the other day.
Can B&M hire you....i wish your design was the actual layout its different from the other gigas it offers more elements and to be able to market the only giga with an iversion and the highest incersion wich kennywood just broke would be awesome
I'm not gonna lie, after the sick outer bank, I prefer orion's layout. it has that fun factor that b&m's are known for. the inversion feels unnecessary and after that this layout is honestly kinda just millennium force but short. the only thing I'd change from the original would be that first wave turn into an outerbank, and then maybe cut the shambhala helix and replace it with something a little quicker and maybe lower to the ground (because most of the expenses of a coaster come from the supports) and make the final dip touch the ground. edit: also the spine isn't that thick after the lift/drop, just use the medium spine instead of the large one
I love the idea of remodeling this coaster, but seeing it in person, Orion is going to pull some pretty good forces! The second hill looks to only be about 1/2 to 3/5 the height of the first hill, making it capable for some serious verticles. The speed hill immediately following the turn around looks great as well. The helix is going to be taken at pretty fast speeds, so expect some gs there as well. Overall the original coaster has some good looking elements packed into a small layout.
Idk what version I like better actually. Yours is good as well but Orion is so super well designed in my opinion, I really like the layout. A extra hill would've definitely helped but it looks really solid still.
I think my biggest gripe with Orion is the "wave turn," mostly because it's what people are praising so much. It's really not a wave turn at all, it's an over-banked turn. Wave turns bow outwards (see L-rod for a good example), creating airtime. This turn curves inwards, reducing airtime. At the very least they shouldn't be in the same category. That turn's not even going to pull 0g. It physically can't.
I work at Kings Island, and the reason why we didn’t make the ride longer was because the price of steel since 2015 has skyrocketed. If it weren’t for that, we definitely would have made it longer.
Apparently the reason why Orion isn't 300 feet tall is because King's Island wants to keep the Eiffel Tower as its centerpiece and really doesn't any anything taller than it. I think that should be taken into consideration with the redesign but regardles, your layout looks a lot cooler. I really like the turnaround on the second version.
The tip top Eiffel Tower is 315 feet. The highest point guests can go is 275 feet (top platform) which was the highest point in the park since Orion will be 287 feet making it the highest point guests can go at KI. However, if the cost of steel wasn't as high as it is today, they probably would've gone 300+ in height.
Your version is by far better. There is no engineering feat to the reason B&M utilities longer break runs -- other than allowing for more train dispatching, less decelerated G's and less blocks throughout the course of the ride, especially high speed hyper coasters. All coaster designers know this.
I think some people thought that a great park like Kings island would go all out like they have done in the past. That wasn't the case this time around. It's not a bad coaster by any means, but I think people were wanting a little more. Is that good or bad? You decide.
I would design it into a 198 ft Mega Coaster with a 250 ft drop however I would make it go down lower with some intense elements for example like the Stengel Dive but even way better like what you did on yours and ad some more airtime.
There's no technical reason for not inverting B&M Hyper Coasters. Restrains are design to hold you in the seat no matter what. Roll speed limitations are no problem for a lot of inversions. So your design is both beautiful and technically realistic. My own "Orion that could" has a zero-g-roll for the wave turn and the turn-around is similar to Hyperion. But my version is a bit longer >1800 m instead of 1600ish. Additionally, I have a non inverting loop added and a zero-g side drop from the mid-course brakerun. Yeah, I added one. I hate the low capacities on most of the rides today. Sure that's mostly triggered by the really bad ride management in US parks. But at least have the option. That's why, my trains are 10-rowers, too. With a total cycle time of 150ish seconds, that's a train dispatched every 50 seconds = 40*72 = 2880 PAX/h.
I see what you were going for but it felt like it was just Hill Right turn Hill Right turn Hill Right turn Hill Also, the Giga brakes are setup that way because it includes the MCBR and final brakes both in that section. MCBR Magnetic trims (sloped section) Final brakes
I don’t know if im the only one but the layout that he designed kind of looked like something that would be used for an Intamin for instance the low to the ground end section and the inversion but I still love it either way!
I really don’t know why they didn’t make that hill outward banked. It was the first thing when I saw the original POV and would make the ride so much better as it would be a world class element for sure
I actually like the current layout. The only change I would’ve made is to make the lift hill over 300 feet. That way it would safely be a giga and that debate of whether or not it’s actually a giga would be eliminated.
It's so tall because the ride is so short....simply not enough track to burn off the momentum of the trains. If they could have done something after the helix, like a few more air time hills...then the break run.
Although I love your idea, no one realistically imagined this is what it was going to look like. I wanna see intamin do a giga again, I reckon they would be willing to experiment with elements like you used i your design. Or RMC, of course, but I dont see them building a giga anytime soon.
An inversion with a clamshell restrain is not common, however I don’t think it’s unsafe. It’s just a bit of a habit to use over the shoulder restraints for coasters with inversions. But very plausible. I also think lapbars like RMC or Intamin use get more common, while the over the shoulder types get more outdated.
Lapbars can be fine, but it needs to be tighter to thw rider so that if the train loses speed and stalls upside-down, people will not fall out. This means a deeper seat, shin guards, or ostrs
Charlie W true but depends how slow Flat rides that hang upside down ostr is necessary but most coasters just need good seats Some inverting pendulum rides need ostr
@@rebelknpv573 The standards dictate that the restraint demonstrate full containment in all expected load cases and potential sustained orientationsin addition to several other ceiteria at class 5. The specific of the design is rever required in any case. Ostrs are simple but very effective designs and are thus commonly used
I like your redesign, the inversion might be unrealistic, but my god would that something if it were possible! Other than that I really like Orion's current layout. I don't get all the controversy around Orion. Either way I think when most of the whiners/elitist get on it in person they'll be thoroughly surprised just how good it will be in person.
I've done a few of these and it's kind of entertaining to do, I know you said you wanted to try to keep the stats fairly similar, but I'd kind of like to see a "training wheels off" version. Nothing too crazy ofc, a little bit taller possibly, but make it as long as you wish; maybe even do a version with the same height but just see how long you can make it. The inversion seems kind of jank too, I honestly kind of liked the non inverting version of that element better, so perhaps leave inversions out for the next one as well.
I like the original better seems more intense definitely the only thing id like on the actual coaster is the upside part but yours seems more boring tbh , but great work! I’m actually excited for the Orion
@@XscreamThrillsI sometimes wonder if it had been built before Diamondback if it would have had better reception. Albeit short, it has good elements. Especially that first left dive.
I like it, it’s just unrealistic for a B&M Hyper coaster (especially the inversion). I can see B&M adding outward banking hills to their hypers, but I just can’t see an inversion as that’s not the focus of the Hyper model.
im sorry but no way there would be an inversion. they would probably just make that an airtime moment. other than that this looks pretty realistic and something that a park might actually make
People should really quit complaining about the stats of the ride and just be glad that they're getting a coaster instead of getting a waterpark or kiddieland expansion for the umpteenth year in a row. So what if the lift isn't 300 ft while the bottom of the drop is? It's a little think known as terrain differences as the terrain is lower at the base of the drop vs the height of the lift.
I think you did a pretty good job. Unfortunately this design isn’t really “B&M” ... the end of the ride looks much more Intamin tbh. All realism aside, this would be a heck of a ride, and I’d really enjoy if this were real. Good job! Keep honing in your NL2 skills!
Everyone’s here complaining about Orion’s stats when I’m here wondering when the West Coast will get a full-length gigacoaster(some sort of giga with at least 4000 feet of track).
It adds some marketability, but KI doesn't get much outside attention with CP so close, and those who do come from afar often have platinum passes to visit both and have a much lower profit per capita than local guests. Increasing your bid by 20% is how you lose the bid to Intamin. This ride is designed for people who have never heard of fury 325

Lapbars can be fine, but it needs to be tighter to thw rider so that if the train loses speed and stalls upside-down, people will not fall out. This means a deeper seat, shin guards, or ostrs
Charlie W true but depends how slow
Flat rides that hang upside down ostr is necessary but most coasters just need good seats
Some inverting pendulum rides need ostr
Thanks for the input! 👍
I like the original better seems more intense definitely the only thing id like on the actual coaster is the upside part but yours seems more boring tbh , but great work! I’m actually excited for the Orion
6:02 you should watch eltororyans video on that subject
I did thank you!
1:28 could have been the First Giga with an Inversion lol
i rode orion a total of 75 times last year still never got bored.
I wouldn't class it as a Giga
Can you make more vids like this one?Because I love it
Possibly!
@@XscreamThrills Is there a chance you could put both versions up on the Steam workshop for NoLimits2?
Orion: The coaster we hate to love.
I've learned to just love Orion 😁
@@XscreamThrillsI sometimes wonder if it had been built before Diamondback if it would have had better reception. Albeit short, it has good elements. Especially that first left dive.
Are you going to do one of these for Candymonium? I’d really be interested to see it😀
I kinda need to know the original layout first 😉. Whenever Hershey decides to release it, then will talk 😁
@@XscreamThrills Do this for an SLC
I like it, it’s just unrealistic for a B&M Hyper coaster (especially the inversion). I can see B&M adding outward banking hills to their hypers, but I just can’t see an inversion as that’s not the focus of the Hyper model.
To add the inversion, they would need to make some minor adjustments to their clamshell restraints.
XscreamThrills Right, I just don’t see them ever doing it as that’s not the purpose of the Hyper model.
Giga?
I thought iron gwazi was more talked about
Or even Pantheon
@@revimfadli4666 agreed
Woah an inversion
Your version is better. You hit the nail on the head of not about having no special hook to stand out from the other giga
If it was my version, I would have put a vertical loop to pay tribute to Son of Beast
And make it a wooden loop 😉
@@XscreamThrills lol but the loop was steel xD
im sorry but no way there would be an inversion. they would probably just make that an airtime moment. other than that this looks pretty realistic and something that a park might actually make
get this man a b&m job
😁
Kind of a hybrid of Orion and Hyperion with an outer banked hill
A giga with an inversion, yessir pls b&m do it someday
Nice
If orion is only 287 feet then isnt it a hyper and not a giga?
It has a 300 foot drop so it's a giga.
Hawaiian Coasters 325 ohhhhh. Ok
You cant put an Inversion on a B&M giga. Its not gonna ever happen so whats the point
It's illegal 🙃
Everyone’s here complaining about Orion’s stats when I’m here wondering when the West Coast will get a full-length gigacoaster(some sort of giga with at least 4000 feet of track).
Also what are you going to name this variation of Orion?
It's Orion, just in my alternate reality
California’s Great America is the only west coast park I could see getting a giga. But they’re gonna get a hyper first, which I’m hoping is next year.
No one's pointed out that you've added about 3-5 million dollars to the price tag.
@Josiah Simmons and Red Force is the tallest rollercoaster in Europe.
Ur not supposed to have inversions on a giga or hyper as it's supposed to focus on airtime completely
What's the point of having rules if you can't break them 😉
I could be wrong on this but I think a twisty (as opposed to looping) inversion could still be considered airtime
