They look fabulous. What I like about your way of growing is that everything looks so beautiful, for instance those glass pebbles are very decorative. That also counts, looking at your orchids and watch them grow in a set pleasing to the eye.
Thank you, honestly the aesthetic is one of the reasons I love this method. I think at this point I could successfully grow in more traditional methods but the roots are so pretty! I don’t want to grow any other way. Lol 😆
Hi Danielle, I love your new version of semi water culture. It inspires me a lot & will apply to my orchids that are coming in October. Can you pls. do videos also on vandas. Appreciate it. Thanks. Your orchid room is fantastic. I love it.
I ordered a vanda this weekend so I will add this to our series. I’m so glad you like my set up. The Cattleya’s are doing so well since I transferred them over.
Thanks Danielle! I have two cattleya hybrids I have been a bit puzzled by in the root department for a while. They struggle a bit with growing roots in my semi-hydro setup. I will try your version of semi-hydro and see if it needs tweaking for my environment.
Ulla Vestergaard Andersen let me know how it goes for you! If you want to try semi water culture to get roots started you could consider that as well. Then once roots start you can transfer back to the semi hydro of your choice.
@@daniellesorchidranch1591 I will let you know - thanks 😊 one of them grows roots, and at a certain height they circle the pot and almost stops growing, so I've been thinking it might need a higher oxygen ratio 🤔 the other one struggles with the dry(er) top layer, even though I've added pebbles to counteract that
Ulla Vestergaard Andersen I have noticed certain orchids have no interest in growing down into the pot. Several of my Oncidiums are like that. I have one Cattleya’s that always has super weak roots that come out looking great only to die back when they get a few inches long but by then the new growth has started and starts to put out roots. And the poor root cycle continues 🤷🏼♀️
@@daniellesorchidranch1591 I went ahead and took them out of their media. One (turned out to be two plants, the second died soon after repotting of black rot, R.I.P.) had lost almost all the old roots and the new ones had stalled, the other kept onto an old root (🥳) and stalled some of the newer roots... Now I'm trying water culture with a lot of aeration for those two 🤞
KANDIS STARR THE REAL EVP ITC I have a rootless Oncidium type I can add to this series. I’m thinking perhaps I should add a few rescue plants to the series.... what do you think?
@@daniellesorchidranch1591 yes all my phals are becoming rootless . My odcdm. Are doing ok ..meaning no root lost but leaves are turning yellow .. My vandas seem to love me lol but one is yellowing to 😭
I have not personally but I’m pretty sure the channel Miracle Orchid has, I don’t think she liked them but check out her channel for her actual feedback.
No, they cannot be grown in water culture...I would advise you use an airy potting soil with a good quality spagnum moss and tiny river rocks on top (that’s what mine are in) or strictly spagnum moss. 🤞🦋
What other media’s can you use other than glass beads, moss and bark? I was wondering if you can use things like small pebbles or even grainy pebbles???
Danielle's Orchid Ranch thank you, I started one new Phaleonopsis in water, I not sure of the leave of water yet, I wasn’t sure of fertilizer. Because I put fertilized water in for some time, took out and put clean water in. Because your water looks so clear, my fertilized water is brown from the seaweed extract, so that’s ok that it is not clear. Ok 👍 thank you.

Ninja_Orchids thank you so much for your support! Really appreciate your positive feedback! 🤗
Very nice info and well-thought our setup. Hat off.
Plant s And other things thank you!
Thank you again for all your videos! Can't wait for the updates. Not seeing the roots drives me crazy too, that's why I want to do water culture.
This was actually my set up for the last two years. Great minds think alike!
Really? Excellent! Then I am in good company!
Another great video! Love the glass bead color choice. 😍
Deb's Bareroot Beauties thanks! I prefer blue beads but the store didn’t have many so I changed it up.

Thanks

Danielle do you prewash those beads?
What about vandas .. Vandas are my addiction
KANDIS STARR THE REAL EVP ITC I have a new vanda coming hopefully this week, I will do a video on it when she arrives.

Have you ever experimented with using water beads on orchids?
I have not personally but I’m pretty sure the channel Miracle Orchid has, I don’t think she liked them but check out her channel for her actual feedback.
Do you fill it everyday for an hour? Or once or twice a week?
Can you grow Jewel orchids in same way as they are terrestrial too??

Many people use Leca and rocks or pebbles. I do have a few in pebbles.
Some people use lava rock. You can a big bag at Lowes for very little.
I have some baby orchid the mother die ,can I try that, they only have 3 roots on them.
My question is fertilizer, is it always in the water?
momepenni yes alway fertilized water.

momepenni yes, I just use low levels of fertilizer and seaweed so the water looks clear.
Danielle's Orchid Ranch 😊
Would this work with phalenopsis?
I’m sure it would. Many people grow phals in semi hydro which is very similar to this.
