Wish Lyle wasn’t gone!!!!!! But I know he’s now mesmerising those who never heard him on earth!!!!!! Love you brother. You will never be forgotten!!!!!!
while i agree he's underrated by joe blow, i also think he's rated pretty highly among us. for him to be rated highly among those who don't already understand his talent level and artistry (joe blow), is to be holding out on the dream that humanity would transcend its primitive, instant gratification, popularity worshiping, superficial, brain washed core. on the flip side, i wish lyle would bust a move on some new tracks and become a traveling, musical evangelist again, either solo or in a group... but that's my own wet dream it seems.
And to do this all so seamlessly ... six musicians playing extraordinarily complex music, filled with multiple polyrhythms and sudden stops and starts popping up out of nowhere - ALL without referring to charts or sheets of written music ....ALL depending on each other to nail their respective parts... I mean I don’t see a single chart anywhere ... it’s nothing less than phenomenal
I too would like to thank him in person for enriching my live. thanks for stating so succinctly a thought that has been percolating inside me for a long time
This video demonstrates why this was one of the greatest musical groups in the history of music. Seeing these guys do this live was an experience I'll never forget
I think of at least 20 Pat Metheny / Lyle Mays songs as my "favorite." But definitely this is one in the top 5. It's beautifully complex and even wistful (the whistling section induces a welcome melancholy). But the totality of it is a bracing energizer, perfect for a mid afternoon pick-me-up.
Yes. There's an interview from a few years ago with Pat being asked if he still talks to Lyle. Pat said they still talk. Though, when those two talk, it tends to be with musical instruments. I'm hoping for a new album in 2012!
If it was like that, i don't think which Lyle Mays would stay in this group. It is just that Lyle Mays, him, is a true musician and don't think about the credit like you say. Pat Metheny and him are two wonderfull musicians.
Yes, there's also a "We Live Here" DVD, also called "Live in Japan," but I don't know if "Episode D'Azur" is among the tracks. The album, on the other hand, has many good songs besides this one, like "Here to Stay," or "To the End of the World." It's a hard to find album, but is worth having it. ;)
Wish Lyle wasn’t gone!!!!!!
But I know he’s now mesmerising those who never heard him on earth!!!!!!

Mays is so underrated. He's amazing
+Pyriew, I totally agree. He is absolutely extraordinaire...

RIP Genius! You’re a LEGEND
Thank you for the memories and RIP Mr. Mays

It is symphonic. So many themes, crazybtime changes. Such long forms. This stuff is really really hard!
Rest in peace, Lyle Mays
He was such an amazing keyboard player. As a classically trained pianist who also plays jazz he was one of my favorites ever.
the best and most advanced jazz composition ever-LYLE MAYS
200 years ahead this will be the new classical music
Wonderfull and Pure
Lyle Mays killed it with the piano solo! Nice tune! Loved it!
I miss Lyle. I wonder if he knew how much we appreciated his genius?
The performance, and that majestic intro by Lyle, warrants a live CD all on its own...
Defines the word, talent. One of the world's most gifted musicians. I would love to thank him in person for enriching my life.
I too would like to thank him in person for enriching my live. thanks for stating so succinctly a thought that has been percolating inside me for a long time
I did once - he got hold of my hand and thanked me for travelling to the concert!
This is a very genius composition : Lyle Mays and Pat Metheny are two monsters of the music.
Music has saved my spirit; Dr.'s Mays and Metheny are miracle workers, and so inexpensive!
Lyle Mays was a Musical Genius. This was smooth jazz at its very best. May Lyle Rest In Peace
Lyle was a show himself into the PMG show.-
That Mays introduction solo is so magical, i see the Ocean, on a ship of the nineteenth century about to sink...
This video demonstrates why this was one of the greatest musical groups in the history of music. Seeing these guys do this live was an experience I'll never forget
RIP Lyle Mays 🎹
he is the modern mozart, bach, and others in one person! I admire him!
No need to compare him to anyone

Always the best music. Thanks Pat, Lyle.... Forever the best
I saw the “Rachmaninoff” spirit taking over for a few seconds. Genius!
Isn't this incredible and inspiring beyond words? Unbelievable! Fantastic!
An absolute inspiration - Lyle is just incredible on this.
So beautiful.
One of Lyle Mays best performances ... incredible ..

6:50 thru is my favorite part of this video. Love the song as a whole. On my MP3, I think I have more Pat M than any other artist.
Come on,Lyle!

7:15 :O
I meant 7:15. Lol
what cd c will I find this song on???
is lyle still in his band
@theonlyrealMugsy Symbiose
Sounds to me like a take-off on Joni Mitchell's "Blue"-- a very inspired take-off.
it is practically identical than english..symbiose..:-)
Thumbs up anybody?
.
Pat Metheny looks like he needs to be treated with some medical help on his guitar! Lol.
Are you a musician?
Music to clear the dance floor and kill a party, pure crap
