I think this conversation will challenge a lot of people. Loss, grief, sexuality, social expectation, boundaries, compassion, mercy. These topics scare us. I nearly stopped the video a couple of times. But I think this was one of the most enlightening and beautiful conversations I have listened to on a podcast. Thank you Tim and Elizabeth.

Confronting discomfort at every instance is the only way forward in this life. Avoiding it will eventually lead to it accumulating and eventually knocking you down. Confronting it as it comes and feeling it in small doses throughout life is the universe giving you a gift.

    My God...
In the end when she talks about universal mercy and it starts with mercy towards yourself
When she says (something to the effect of) 'I don't know why they gave me you (speaking to yourself), but I accept. And I will take good care of you'
    I cried.
    Damn. This lady is awesome
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! ❤️❤️ What a gift

SO - you wrote that comment 3 years ago. It's Jan 2024 now.
How has your life gone since typing this comment?
What made you cry - is there something you can point to so that her comment really resonated with you?
Were you able to take better care of you since typing this comment?
How has your life changed in the time since you wrote this?
I'm honestly not sure I can say that. I can say that I'll try to take care of you to myself but I'm not sure I can say I WILL take good care of you because I know my past. She's so right about how NO ONE will be as challenging to take care of as ourselves.
"Me on a different day" is an idea that I immediately LOVE! Because it's so true and removes all the bad motives that I assign to others to justify my disdain, however intense or not it may be.
Anyways whether you choose to respond or not - I hope anyone reading this can try to find more compassion, grace and love for themselves no matter how challenging our behavior can be.

Thanks, Tim, for being an EXCELLENT podcaster. You ask deep and pertinent questions, prefaced by your thoughts and research; questions that allow your interviewee to really expand on topics that are rich and meaningful to them. This podcast is a beautiful stream of shared consciousness between you and Elizabeth that, if my experience is to go by, will give your listeners many takeaways, support them during tough times and provide ideas relevant to their own lives. What a profoundly eloquent and substantive speaker Elizabeth Gilbert was by the way! Thanks so much for your wonderful work!!!

Wow, I love when she talks about using your body for what it is for, as an amazing guidance system. And she compares ignoring your bodies guidance is like having the newest iPad and only using it as a placemat. That's how it is if we ignore our intuition. So powerful, this really hit home for me. So much value in this interview, Thank you!

This was such a WONDERFUL interview - I love Liz, too and she always has such great things to share, but for me, the golden nugget here was sharing Martha Beck's method of handling fear by having it "journal" all its anxieties, then asking wisdom to step forward and do the same. Amazing.

Beautiful dialogue about the truth; truths we each must grapple with yet when we do, when we finally use our God given courage to be honest with others, the silver lining is joy. To live joyful with less guilt. More joy. Mahalo, Tim Ferris for bringing in, more awareness which equals an incredible lightness of being. Love.

Hi Tim, recently I've been watching a lot of your videos/podcasts and heard a lot about "The Artist's Way Morning Pages Journal". I want to read it but first I wanna ask you and our fellow community here: Do you think I could read it before "The Artists's Way"? Is it an independent book or is it supposed to be read alongside with the main one? Thanks for all the great content!

    • @mckinleaf

the Morning Pages Journal is largely a blank journal for you to do your morning pages in (with some quotes and prompts). You'd be much better off reading The Artist's Way, which has the whole explanation of what morning pages are and how to use them and everything, and then just using your own blank notebook to write them
