Tim, I hope you get this. I just want you to know I LOVE the direction you are taking us in introspectively, life isn't worth living if it is without joy, and every dollar is empty without that. I think you are providing a light and tremendous service to your productivity-focused prove-prove-prove audience to bring them into their hearts and bodies. Love ya!
Brené is such a gift. So inspiring = “We all grew up… armored up… and at some point that armor no longer serves us. How is not talking about this serving you? And now the weight of the armor is too heavy. It’s not protecting you. It’s keeping you from being seen and known by others. This is THE developmental milestone of midlife. It’s not a crisis. It’s a slow, brutal unraveling... But you can replace the armor with something: curiosity."
Yep. Just now moving past a relationship where the other person has some serious armor, and clutching tightly to it at age 60. I'm sad, but I also learned I might need to do some lightening of the "heavy metal" myself...
the weak need armor; the armor is code for something outside of yourself, that you then place on yourself. once you admit your weakness and bankruptcy, you can turn your vulnerable skin into armor. who cares if 6 billion people hate your guys, call me fat, ugly, stupid - I don't care whatsoever. you cannot be seen and known by others and why would you need that? the weak need that - Eagles fly alone. Jesus was a way nicer person than me and didn't have millions of friends of Facebook.
I love Terry Real's definition of healthy self-esteem..."the ability to see yourself as a flawed individual and still hold yourself in high regard". Thank you both for your powerful work!!
32:07 _"Narcissim is the most shame based of all the personality disorders. It is not about self-love at all, it's about grandiosity driven by high performance and self hatred. _*_Narcissim is the shame based fear of being ordinary."_* ~ Brene Brown
I don't understand that quote. No one wants to be ordinary. Is the problem that the desire may come from fear? My desire to strive doesn't come from fear but I definitely have a desire to push myself.
@@tmack62 i think a narcissist feels like if they are not special they are nothing, shattered, obliterated or just a worthless pile of human of no use to anyone & better off dead, so yes fear is a huge driver. Without the sense of "specialness" about themselves, their self seems to disintegrate, so that is a very scary feeling....
People come for the message, they stay for the personality. Brené delivers the message in a way that we can hear. And while we’re enjoying her company, with our heads exploding with AHA MOMENTS, getting enlightened while being entertained, she lives what she’s saying. So she brings it on home to our hearts and minds.
Today I learned that Brene Brown, in addition to being quite smart, very insightful, a great speaker and writer, is an absolute dork and goofball. I like her even more now.
I just cried now listening to the part about taking a photo. My husband does photography and I always feel so ugly when I have to take a photo... but I EARNED this! Every wrinkle and every stretchmark! I earned it! Realizing now- I haven’t accepted myself! Realising that I haven’t found a way to love the ordinariness of myself - that is why I cringe...
I have tears in my eyes listening to Brené, her championing of "ordinary" is utterly profound. Even though she's absolutely extraordinary. (Or if she's what ordinary looks like, I want to be ordinary too). Her authenticity, heart, depth, courage to just show up fully as she is, is humbling and inspiring. So grateful that a woman like Brené exists in the world. That her message resonates with so many. We are waking up. People long for authenticity. I know that I certainly do. She makes my world a better place. Thank you so much for this wonderful interview.
Brene normalises the messiness and non-linearity of life. I feel that is affirming to everyone, as we all encountered struggles and challenges. Such a transformational human being. God bless. 🙌
I don't think Brene is ordinary, but she's very very real and I think that is what I resonate with. No facade, no fakery, just raw real and incredibly beautiful in every way! Love this podcast, thank you Tim for your courage to explore these topics for us to learn! Much gratitude!
Honestly. Brené Brown is such a joy. She's the famous version of aunties you know. Or your mum's best friend (the funny one). She's someone Meryl Streep should play in some light-hearted comedy. Her heart and personality is so relatable 💕
I absolutely love Brene and how she's found what's aligned for her. When she said she's a "slow and close" rather than a "fast and far" person, I felt that so strongly in my soul! It's such an intentional way to live and it's incredible to see the impact she's created
When Tim opens up about how he sometimes struggle to find the right words and is going a little "woodoo". That was the first time I felt any public figure has ever acknowledged the same thoughts I feel inside every day. I too often struggle to communicate this to people. How to strive and be go-go-go and self acceptance all take up a lot of my mind every day. So thank you Tim for putting your thoughts to words!
I love Tim’s comment “I would debate over drinks the “ordinaryness” . We all would Brene, you stand out because you have made authenticity valuable and in today’s world we NEED it more than ever. That’s why we love you.
They are so attentive to each other and awake. Watching this post Covid is a trip. I am glad that we have been given this example of how to be with each other (and ourselves) before Covid and before the dawn of AGI. Thank you Brené and Tim. ❤ I imagine this conversation has not fallen short of truly saving lives.
Tim - because of you I'm 27 years old and I'm living my dreams, working from my laptop anywhere in the world, helping + coaching + teaching people and getting paid more per month than I ever could have dreamed of earning in a year in my corporate job. When I read the 4-hour workweek in college it just sparked this knowing / truth inside of me, I knew I was meant for that life and although it took me 5-6 years to finally start my business.. when I did, it took off fast. You writing that book was the catalyst for a completely different life for me that has been more fulfilling than I ever knew was possible. So I just wanted to say thank you for having the courage, and vulnerability ;) to write YOUR truth, in only the way that you can. Your work in this world matters and I love you.
Love the way Brene Brown turns this interview of her into an interview of Tim Ferriss. To me that's why everyone falls in love with her. She expresses genuine concern and interest in everyone she speaks to...
Brene is the most courageous woman I know. Through her work, she has not only helped me, but many others. I pass her work on to the people I meet as much as I can. Thank you Brene for being authentic and brave!❤❤
OMGGGGG 37:00 - "how do you help someone who comes to you for help, but who DOESN'T wanna unlock the box of emotions they've avoided for years, because they're scared and it's messy?"
Brené, here's why I think your message resonates so well with so many women, especially. (To chime in on the first question Tim asked you.) It's because the topics you bring to light as being the most valuable-vulnerability, having honest discussions, acknowledging emotions, and so on-those are feminine skills that our society completely devalues, despises, ridicules and relegates to the sidelines. Your work lifts up the incredible power and strength of the feminine, not to mention its utter necessity for human wholeness and connection. That's why we love you.
8.57 minutes 🙏 I think instead of ordinariness , we connect with Berne because she show her humanness . And we all feel the same way she feels . So courageous she show us that we can take that step forward and not die ! 🙏♾❤️
THERE'S JUST SOOOOO MUCH IN THIS INTERVIEW... Two absolutely beautiful and imperfect souls being honest and genuine with each other... So grateful for this interview!! Simply incredible!!!!
I think Brené Brown, Ester Perel, and Tim Ferriss are able to take research and distill it into practical information that is both useful and relevant. Very gifted individuals!
It was funny when he said he was worried about losing his audience just before 30 minutes because I was thinking the exact opposite, that this was his best podcast yet right at that moment
Brene’ brings such humanity to life...the relatability is hands down the most amazing thing about her...she talks about about herself in relation to her work and says I still don’t have my shit together but let’s all join hands and get our hands dirty because this will be worth it.
I already feel this unraveling for me and I’m 26. I believe I’m an old soul. I’m asking myself these questions now as I begin to walk my path. It’s startling but I’m walking in faith
*This. Is. An. Amazing. Interview.* Everyone I know needs to hear this interview. I could listen to Brené Brown all day long. I feel like she could be a really good friend of mine.
Oh golly me too. Following her thinking process in this video was amazing. It wasn't a rehearsed interview... he really brought it to a wonderful interchange of insights and perspectives for each to share.
I was one of the people who listened to content like Tim's podcast primarily to "get the edge", become more efficient, productive etc. What I later realized I acutely needed was what Tim is kinda afraid to switch to with his content- talk about self awareness. It might not sound hot but without it all the tools and the edge are wasted in an entirely wrong race.
Complacency and Self Acceptance. Success and not being enough. Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.
21:30 is magic. The vulnerability in front of Brene. Plus the discussion around Self Loathing Driving Performance from Tim nonetheless is gold. The balance between complacency vs driving. These dialectics are absolutely key to figure out to find feeling spectrums that include happiness. What lines do we need to draw? What do we own, refusing to let others define? What should we let go of, and allow the word to be? What are your wasted resources being used to maintain both? Makes me want to grab a coffee and croissant and sit on marble steps in Greece for a day.
Peter Levine for trauma, as well. Thank you, Brene for shouting out to the therapists!!! As a therapist myself, I really appreciate your openness with this topic!
We need more therapists. Getting one on the phone is next to impossible. Thank you for the profession that you have chosen, cuz you will change people's lives.
I love her. I watched her Ted-Ex talk on vulnerability in my office at the HEIGHT of a situation that was to make me SO VISIBLE. I was TERRIFIED. And I happened upon it while being distracted. I sat there and cried at my desk like a baby. That talked changed my life.
A HEALTHY DIALOGUE between two intellectuals. Both are LISTENING. Which is part of communication. 👍 And *listening* is something we often don't see on tv, interviews, or even get to experience in our day to day living. There's a saying: 'We have one mouth and two ears for a reason'. 💯
This is such a treat didnt even noticed the 1 hour 19 mins! Love how Brene explains about Midlife stuff - that its not a Crisis but a slow brutal unravelling of our choices as influenced by our armor and suddenly realizing that were halfway our finish line... and enjoyed seeing the otherside of Brene - thanks to Tiktok. 😊👍
Brene Brown is a gift. Thank you for having her on your show. And thank you for talking about things that we need hear and talk about. My first time watching your show - you got a new subscriber here.
I've watched this video 3 times now. I came across it randomly (at least as randomly as UA-cam's algorithms allow). I love this woman, as much as you can love someone you don't know. I feel like my heart and my mind have been opened up, and I owe her for that. I wish I had been introduced to Brene Brown and her writings/videos earlier in my life.
Loved this. Two normal people showing their flaws which dont even appear like ones. I always thought that there is something wrong with me that I cant fix myself but now I can see that everybody feels that why.
Uuugghh Brene Brown is One of THE MOST AMAZING SOULS walking this EARTH!!!!!! Seeing you two power houses together warms my heart!! I appreciate youuuuuuu!!! Thanks Tim!!!!!🙏🏾🙏🏾🌠🌠🌠💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾
A great interviewer who has great knowledge can get the best from the interviewee and even get new material which has never been said in other interviews. One of the best interviews with Brent Brown. I felt like she too enjoyed and learnt something from him. Thank you Mr Ferris
Lana Webster yes girl!! Yes!! It’s never too late to create better feeling thoughts that lead to feeling better more and more on a daily basis. Good for you! I admire your ability to redirect you momentum after 74 years.
Watching this now amidst the coronavirus pandemic & Brené what you said about in times of illness, death, crisis is when we want the ordinary, when we realise striving for the extra- ordinary is meaningless, so true right now in this pandemic globally we are all resorting to our ordinary lives to survive, the basic survival to stay home & embrace your unique, individual ordinariness. powerful🙏❤
I found your channel some months ago and just recently watched Brené's TED talk. It feels so good to hear you talk about things that I can relate to. The world feels less a lonely place (I know it's kinda dramatic but it's true!). Thanks to both of you for creating great content!
Such an incredible interview/podcast. So much to take away from this ! Few of my favourite parts is when she talks about the idea of "painstaking success" and talks about shutting down successful businesses because "I hated it". The ideas of "Farther faster...I am more a slower-closer type of person". Highlights the importance to touch base with our most basic inner needs and see if the worldly/external goals we are chasing after are actually alignment with our inner world, needs & wellbeing.
33:33 When responding to Tim's admitted fear of alienating some of his foundational audience ("the go getters" lets just call em) by being more interested in the "softer" or messier "inner-game" stuff lately, Brene masterfully notes the contrast between "practices that improve measurable efficiency" and the "practice of real self-awareness/acceptance/evolution" being linear vs. nonlinear processes. Inner psychological development is much more like a garden, there are observable trends to organic change but it's mixed in with systems of chaos like weather and species competition, etc. Balancing patience with myself with the right amount of directed pressure around a very simple plan has been my central life issue lately and if anything, these kind of conversations will have my fuller attention. Excited to see more discussions around this paradox of inner growth/surrender vs outer world creative productivity: Taken to both extremes, you have the far side of woo saying you really need to "accept the reality you want" before you can get there and the Universe will just take care of it "when you have your inner world right"; on the extreme opposite "just do it" side, you have people suggesting that growth and success simply need to be "hacked" and your willpower simply strengthened and forced thru ritual systems, a cold and linear achievement process.
Agree...we all fall somewhere on the bell curves of acceptance and striving. Ideally we add counterweights if we are trending too far in one direction. Appreciate your thoughtful and well-articulated insights.
I'd argue you need to master both eventually, to be able to professionally operate between the 2 extremes, constantly improving your balancing skills. Cold and linear achievement process is learning to deal with daily grind and not losing your temper, Jock calls this discipline. You need tons and tons of boring training to be able to perform when your muse finally arrives. So while the creativity is not there, master the hardware part of the techniques. Then whenever you feel inspired, you'll reach much further after all this prior training. To reject the rules of musical theory when your creativity demands that, you need to know those rules first. To overcome yourself, you need to know your limits first.
So many valuable quotes during this interview. "Are you inside or outside of pandora's book? Either way you are dealing with your stuff" "Keep your shadows in front of you, that way they cant get you from behind" Carl Jung.
I have attempted to meditate many times in my life and prior to this CD the only success I've experienced is with live guided meditation. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxzpa8CIfZcihW4Z0F_ja0QF3W9KIatrsq This is the first CD I've used that cuts through my unmedicated ADHD and enables me to truly relax and experience a quiet and energizing interval. The instructors voice is very soothing and pleasant to listen to. I am easily able to sit successfully through the entire CD, and for quite some time after. I cannot adequately express how tremendously helpful this CD has been on my spiritual journey!! Two thumbs up and 10 stars!
1. 25 year old Rush fan here! 2. I have to say, after getting out of an abusive relationship and going gung-ho on educating myself on narcissists and NPD, I’ve seen a lot of research pointing away from shame for the root of narcissism and narcissistic personality disorder (NPD). People who are the victims of such people need to accept that sure your abuser has issues, but it’s not your job to endure such treatment, fix them, or let pity for them overtake your own struggle. 3. Thank you for your work, Dr. Brown, your work has been instrumental in my recovery from that 17-month hellhole. Almost three months free!
Tim I am definitely a 'ra ra, hustle hustle' type of guy, but that's what I do for fun! The reason I began listening to your show was that there were amazing people on the show that I sought to learn from, overtime however this shifted into me coming back FOR YOU. The amount of preparation you put into an interview is apparent. It's no longer about the "here's how to get rich or ultra-productive" for me, it's about hearing different world views and "success" stories - whatever that means for you. I think fame and wealth are great successes, but for many success can look like helping others, finding life purpose, finding happiness, always striving to improve, etc., My point being is that it's different for everyone, even the ra ra guys. Please please don't worry about your audience. I work with a lot of bigger musicians in my job and I constantly tell them this, it's ironic because I have to tell myself this! Your audience started following you for a gamut of reasons, the reason they will continue to follow you (if they choose to do so) will usually not be the reason they came to you in the first place. So, follow your interest and vision for the show - don't worry about appealing to us.
I always learn so much from these 2 beautiful, open, funny & soulful humans. When I saw this video I couldn’t go home fast enough to digest & digress. 💖
Complacency v Self Acceptance: I really like the way Jordan Peterson puts it: "You're not as good as you could be, but that doesn't mean you're worse than other people." To me, it's this idea that part of being human is having room to grow, and that your need to improve isn't a bug, it's a feature of being a person.
28:24 Stop and remember that the problems as you see it with other people are your own problems, addictions to taking control of others, outcomes that you’re projecting. For example, if you accept your spouse as an alcoholic and recognise that you have a job to do, which does not involve changing him/her, and you instead recognise why you get triggered when this person is incapacitated by his illness, maybe this meaning you have to find your own dysfunction/addict and resolve the matter within yourself, you’ll have the right energy to take care of you, dependents and thrive, and maybe but maybe by healing yourself, you will have a healing influence o. Those around you.
I've been binging on Dr. Brown videos for a few days now (for the second or third time in my life). And among all the gems I could comment at length on, this one will live forever with me: "Narcissism is the most shame-based of all the personality disorders. Narcissism is not about self-love. At all. It's about GRANDIOSITY - driven by high-performance and self-hatred. I define it as *shame-based fear of being ordinary.*" The shame and lack of self-love connection made everything click for me. Thank you Dr. Brown and Tim for such a valuable talk. For making sense of my life. Hope "Unlocking Us" will be available on YT. All the best from Korea.
I really enjoyed the discussion about self acceptance and complacency. I’ve kind of come to view it from the lens of permanence. What can or cannot be changed. Sometimes it means accepting something ‘for now’ while I commit to change. By doing this I avoid complacency. Sometimes it means learning to live with the outcome of what can’t. It was nice to hear I’m not the only person who struggles with that.
I felt such endearment with them both. Loved how they each openly laid bare a physical vulnerability on the table (weight and baldness). Brave, and effective. Tim, don't you know you ALSO have Be Be Be'ers in your audience? We CHEER your inner evolution! Your "brand" can't be fixed/static, 'cause you are not fixed/static. We get that. #moreinnergame
Thank you Brenee, it's the best definition of narcissism: "Shame-based fear of being ordinary". Yes, it resonates completely. I grew up in a family with this as the highest value. It took me lots of work on myself to let go of this value.
Like Brene, Jim Rohn was loved. And he always said, "As best I can tell..." In other words, he never claimed to have it all figured out. I think that's what makes Brene lovable.
It's not woo woo.. it is your spirituality coming through... beautiful interview. You both are really offering something worth talking about and having more conversations about. Unlocking ourselves and being self-aware, is the game we are playing. If we are to evolve out of selfishness, narcissism and denial. Powerful.
30:00 not losing your audience at all only growing with them, thank you for all the developmental knowledge, and can't wait to read your works on spiritual/philosophy in the future
@timferriss Tim. Looks like alot of people are responding to the same thing. Its an approval and a go ahead from us. We dont get lost, this is where we are discovering with you. The messy, like Brown mentioned. Question is, who in your mind and definition, is the audience that you are looking at?
I can’t help but laugh when they both said “I’m excited to be traveling less”… they certainly got what they asked for… I wonder if they watched this post covid and thought “common now… I didn’t mean 2 YEARS of no travel” 😂
Dammit I love her realness. It’s so refreshing - and necessary. I don’t see her as “ordinary” in the least. You nailed it Tim - it’s the fact the shares her own vulnerability- SHE SHOWS UP!!!
Bruce Tift. Another Buddhist Psychiatrist, Dr. Mark Epstein is really worth exploring. Thoughts Without a Thinker was my first dive but The Trauma of Everyday Life is a great read too. Everytime I listen to Dr. Brown, I always forget that she is a, "doctor". I bet when she wrote her thesis she had absolutely no idea how many people she would heal through her research work, but especially through her, as a person, a vulnerable and sensitive human being workin it out as best as she can, facing her fear and the hot lights of a stage with unmitigated courage. Listening to her, I'm always reminded of Pema Chödrön's first book, "The Wisdom of No Escape" which launched me out of my deepest depression, like a rail spike through my forehead, followed by nothing short of a miracle, Pure Peace and Joy. I'm so grateful that All of you exist and share your Real selves, your thoughts and fears, self doubts and growth. Thank you so much.
I started following you for your self development work but I think many of us are on the same path as you and focusing on our inner work. I love the new turn of events and as a larger consciousness i think we're there with you, asking different questions.
What a hoot you two are.. I absolutely adored this interview.. There is such a yummy exchange of comfort here! There is no better form of punctuation than laughter! Deep gratitude 🤗
To Brené, I think the reason for your community's connection is that you can create a language we all understand deeply and your empathy makes it safe to be honest with the information you give. That was the only way i could get close enough with your words to move me... to allow me to connect.
The inner game isn't just mental, it's also vibrational so you are going to stay in energetic communication with your audience Tim :) I've run into the same thing through 20+ years in autism work, moving from behavioral (outer) focus to mindset/mental/inner focus to now moving beyond even that and training my clients to think about "woo woo" topics energetic entrainment with their child. You can't stay where you were 10 years ago even if you wanted to, your people are going to grow with you and those that fall away will be replaced with new ones. That's been my experience anyway, on a much smaller scale with private practice.
I’m only about half way through but there was something you shared at about 31:00 that resonated with me. The understanding of oneself and of our consciousness. Tim, I discovered you at the beginning of my entrepreneurship about 4 years ago and read your book “Tools Of Titans’” which was filled with a ton of great insight that I’m really grateful for. I wasn’t until about 8 months ago, when everything fell apart again - the fourth time - that I decided to focus my energy inward. Although I’ve experienced success - my definition of - I felt I was doing it backwards. No matter what I achieved, there was something missing. Over the past 8 months I’ve spent a lot of time writing and meditating to nurture those parts within me that I’ve neglected and needed to be seen. Your question gives some validation that the work I’m doing - being at peace with myself, loving myself, and understanding the parts of me that I’d rather avoid, has had the most profound impact on all my relationships. As well as the direction I’m going with my new creative venture. Thank you so much - the both of you - for being vulnerable and sharing your wisdom. I’m truly grateful for the divine timing that aligned this information with me so that I could be open to receiving it. Much love to you both 🙏🏼😍
39:30 The 60 seconds that follow had me rewinding 10 times. Being spontaneously hyper-aware of my own mortality is very real even though I'm still young.
It's a powerful part of life. I try to be grateful for it. I wouldn't want the only time I'm aware like that to be at the end. It reminds us to enjoy the now. 💚
Brene’ Brown has figured humanity out! Beautiful to see how Tim has transformed himself and his work over the years! Keep your shadows in front of you, the can only attack you from behind💚👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
The part where she talks about midlife evolving, children and the race to nowhere, family-centered families, and marriages makes me want to just jump up and down. . This!!!!!
Brené's take on it being curiosity that serves instead of armor is very true. When you write, if you're going to write something true or authentic whether fiction or nonfiction, you cannot channel that creativity with armor on, because it protects and repels both ways... what cannot get in also cannot get out.
I absolutely think that your inner work and focus on "unlocking people" and the stuff going on in their heads is essential to optimizing human potential. Therein lies the real magic! So please keep spreading your message and knowledge. Those who are truly ready for growth will know how important this work is for real performance. Thank you Tim (and Brenee)

beautiful definition 😭💜
@@gagzy1989 I think so too. ☺️
I wish I would have had heard that years ago. Thanks for writing it down Tubermensch.

What an amazing conversation between these two beautiful minds.
That's the sentence that really rang with me too.

I need Brene Brown in my life saying comfortingly "For sure" every time I come up with a concept
Hit me up and I am willing to give you the “for sure” for all your ideas!
For sure.
And when we wake up, anything is possible! I love her too - such power in her authenticity x
She spits it out.

@@steveb6718 Love this, just copied it into my journal
@@appletree6898 I just got 100 universe-points for that comment, thanks :)
I love Brene and this episode is bringing me so much joy. She speaks her truth and doesn’t preach at her audience. She’s genuine💫
I absolutely love Brene and how she's found what's aligned for her. When she said she's a "slow and close" rather than a "fast and far" person, I felt that so strongly in my soul! It's such an intentional way to live and it's incredible to see the impact she's created
I wish Tim pushed the videos of his podcast interviews more. This is a great format. I, personally, like to see the people talking.
Well done on creating the life you love! Good for you.x

@Jasmine Same here!

OMGGGGG 37:00 - "how do you help someone who comes to you for help, but who DOESN'T wanna unlock the box of emotions they've avoided for years, because they're scared and it's messy?"
Don't worry about losing fans or outgrowing your audience. Bring them with you. Lead the way.
"narcissism . . . is the shame based fear of being ordinary" (32:20). . . "it is so much easier to offload pain than to feel pain" (41:17)
B vitamins food for the brain
I think Brené Brown, Ester Perel, and Tim Ferriss are able to take research and distill it into practical information that is both useful and relevant. Very gifted individuals!
It was funny when he said he was worried about losing his audience just before 30 minutes because I was thinking the exact opposite, that this was his best podcast yet right at that moment
this is the first video I've seen of his.
it is also the best 1 on 1 podcast conversation i have seen
Couldn’t agree more. This is exactly what I needed and love that he is evolving
Precisely!!! I'm so fascinated by his mind and by the path he's on... lots of admiration! 🌟🙏💖
Brené's podcast was one of the most insightful and powerful ones. Glad to see her again!

'How can I make room for both striving and self-acceptance?' Great re-framing of the question.
Great point. I agree
I think this may end up being "the edge" he was looking for
AMEN to that. I did the get to the edge thing; and you kinda self implode if you don't have awareness, the tools and strategies become useless lol.
sandythedoc beautifully stated! 🥳
I empathize with the last part of your comment, the last sentence, where you say, "without it all the tools and edge are entirely wasted"
Complacency and Self Acceptance. Success and not being enough.
Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.
Tim, as a journalist myself I can say that your questions and the concentration of listening are just amazing!
Exactly! Yes. Well said! This is exactly where I knew I'd be rewinding to listen again (and grab my notebook).
I practice bring grateful everyday, since my husband suddenly left me as a way to heal, it really does help xx
A HEALTHY DIALOGUE between two intellectuals.
Both are LISTENING. Which is part of communication. 👍
And *listening* is something we often don't see on tv, interviews, or even get to experience in our day to day living.
There's a saying:
'We have one mouth and two ears for a reason'.
It’s her absolute HONESTY
I am in a curiosity phase and I appreciate what y'all talked about...I am recreating my life....74
Amazing! You can recreate your life on any day. Go for it!
Lana Webster yes girl!! Yes!! It’s never too late to create better feeling thoughts that lead to feeling better more and more on a daily basis. Good for you! I admire your ability to redirect you momentum after 74 years.

Love “recreating my life”. Me too. Working at this 3rd act of life. Patient Striving.
Oo
Watching this now amidst the coronavirus pandemic & Brené what you said about in times of illness, death, crisis is when we want the ordinary, when we realise striving for the extra- ordinary is meaningless, so true right now in this pandemic globally we are all resorting to our ordinary lives to survive, the basic survival to stay home & embrace your unique, individual ordinariness. powerful🙏❤
30:00 Hey Tim, Your current work is your most important so far.
what an amazing woman. her work will be a blessing for generations. a cornerstone for new understandings.
5:49 The downstairs unit is on fire.. 🔥
So many valuable quotes during this interview.
"Are you inside or outside of pandora's book? Either way you are dealing with your stuff"
"Keep your shadows in front of you, that way they cant get you from behind" Carl Jung.

Self acceptance as a starting point before getting up vs complacency as a mindset of passiveness
I don't know why but I like these long form youtube video podcast more so than the audio ones.
1. 25 year old Rush fan here!
Great comment mate. Hope you’re having a great day.
I think the interviewer did amazing!!! He said so many things that I'm accepting and applying.
I always learn so much from these 2 beautiful, open, funny & soulful humans.
When I saw this video I couldn’t go home fast enough to digest & digress.
💖
Brilliant and brilliant that Brene corrects narcissistic people don’t love themselves and are shame based. Love this 💕
Complacency v Self Acceptance: I really like the way Jordan Peterson puts it: "You're not as good as you could be, but that doesn't mean you're worse than other people." To me, it's this idea that part of being human is having room to grow, and that your need to improve isn't a bug, it's a feature of being a person.
A gem from Brené and Russell..and when Brené got 'flow' with no interruption she was magnificent
3:29pm Brene is relatable, vulunerable, authentic and inspiring. ❤
I've been binging on Dr. Brown videos for a few days now (for the second or third time in my life). And among all the gems I could comment at length on, this one will live forever with me:
"Narcissism is the most shame-based of all the personality disorders. Narcissism is not about self-love. At all. It's about GRANDIOSITY - driven by high-performance and self-hatred. I define it as *shame-based fear of being ordinary.*"
The shame and lack of self-love connection made everything click for me.
Thank you Dr. Brown and Tim for such a valuable talk. For making sense of my life. Hope "Unlocking Us" will be available on YT.
All the best from Korea.
This is just blowing me away. Particularly on the part about college, exploring and adults in their 30’s and 40’s working resonates.
I thought I couldn’t love her more! She is awesome. So excited for her new podcast!!!
As a woman who has always "watched her weight" married to the sexiest baldy ON THE PLANET, I can relate to this too. By our "flaws" we are glorious!
Absolute, Beautiful, & Cool
I adore Brene Brown! She is a powerful force for change and well being! Thank you so much for this interview
Love Brené! So crazy to watch it during pandemic times... we want so much an ordinary day...
Amazing material, thank you,
Brene: nothing ordinary about you. Thank you for your courage and willingness to be seen. Thank you, thank you!
What a hoot you two are.. I absolutely adored this interview.. There is such a yummy exchange of comfort here! There is no better form of punctuation than laughter! Deep gratitude 🤗
Coo coo
Much love to you both 🙏🏼😍
Was listening to the podcast then quickly switched to the video at 1:17:00 to get the visual of the TikTok. Thank you both for the great laugh!
I really like how at around 22 minutes they disagreed and she was firm on her ground but still listened to what he was saying
The part where she talks about midlife evolving, children and the race to nowhere, family-centered families, and marriages makes me want to just jump up and down. . This!!!!!
me too just wish i had this info when i was bringing up my kids who are now nearly 30 .
Brené's take on it being curiosity that serves instead of armor is very true. When you write, if you're going to write something true or authentic whether fiction or nonfiction, you cannot channel that creativity with armor on, because it protects and repels both ways... what cannot get in also cannot get out.
Yes! Thank you for doing your talks on camera! I will be watching much more of your content!
