Oh my.....Liz Gilbert, you touch my heart and soul in so many ways. When I read, or hear your words, generous, open, honest, full of wisdom and compassion, I could literally kneel before you to express my gratitude to you for who you are, and how you touch my life every day. I told my sister today that I wish I could be your friend...the truth is, I feel like you already are. Thank you Liz, for what you do for me,the world, and for the amazing woman you are. Love you 💜💜👩🎨
At about one-hour 15 minutes, I so appreciate Gilbert's authenticity and humanity in back-tracking on that "trope" which is problematic. To the woman who asked the question, from my own experience and learning, I would like to recommend re-placing the word "love" with "value" and say, in all that you do, make sure that your choices come from a place of valuing yourself (your time, your energy, your needs etc.) and do not value somebody else more than you value yourself. You can value yourself and another person at the same time, but do not value another person at the expense of yourself.

Watched the movie years ago. It always intrigued me, so I was walking through Barnes and Noble and I seen the tenth edition and I was like okay let me read the book and see how it differs from the movie. So glad I picked up the book! Now i've been watching all the interviews and I'm blown away by what happened since the book ended. Really hope she writes a book on Rayya! I don't agree with everything in the book, but that's okay, because it challenges my own thoughts and beliefs and I think we always need a review of these from time to time!
I love this beyond words. 💫 I have yet to ever listen to an Elizabeth Gilbert interview, that I didn't learn something that was eye opening and life altering for me.🥰
If you can't love yourself it doesn't mean you can't love other people, but I do think it impacts the quality of your love. When you love yourself you aren't afraid to do what's right rather than what's easy. You aren't afraid to speak truthfully rather than soothingly. You don't want to placate rather than be honest. Loving yourself means not allowing those you love to take advantage of that; not loving yourself enough leaves you vulnerable to loving people too much. And, yes, that is very possible. When Elizabeth ended a marriage that was just not working for her, that was self-love. Would you be able to do that without loving yourself as much as you need to?
Elizabeth, thank you from the very bottom of my being for saying you wake up thinking "Oh, f*ck, F U H C K! I used to write a lot of songs, and it was always in that rapid state of mind that she talked about. But, I don't think that's a healthy state of mind, and it might be part of why she wakes up in a panic every morning. I gave up caffeine, wine, chocolate, and nuts, which stimulate the nervous system and deplete many vitamins and minerals, and changed my diet to eating a lot of meat soups and butter, which calm rapid thinking down, and the constant stream of music going through my head finally stopped-thank God! So, if she did this, she might stop waking up in a panic, believing that life is dangerous, and just be happy.

I love Elizabeth Gilbert and her sense of freedom. But I would like to add that it is really impossible for a person who doesn't have children to know what it means to have kids and the love one feels. It's a kind of love that is unconditional and beautiful. My kids give me joy and happiness.
@@rachaeliggulden1203 I totally agree. I just didn't like the whole reference how people live longer without kids etc. But don't get me wrong, I love Elizabeth Gilbert and her sense of freedom. 💗💗
@Angelica Rodriguez I so understand it. I was worried too, a lot. My kids are independent now, I have all the freedom I want, and I also have their love. It's a beautiful combination.
Yvonneb2 We are all limited by our experience (examples, those who are married, those who have children, those who are stewards of children or animals through adoption, vs. those who don't have children, etc.), but I don't think there's a definitive type of unconditional love. Even among parents, you can see the difference in their level of love and commitment to their children. I've also witnessed unconditional love shown by (childless by choice) teachers to their students that could arguably be considered unconditional love.
Julia Haw She says shame does not exist because you can not pass it. And at the same time she keeps talking about god as something real. How are they different? Both concepts are invented. Why does she believe only in one of them?
Why we do need marriage for? You are very right just enjoy your life as much as you can. We're here not for anything else. We have to believe that from our heart. Go girl go. Thanks for your contribution
Marriage is the foundational commitment of family which is the foundation for community and society. If you have ever seen the stability of a lifelong loving commitment you would not ask what is it needed for.
I just need to point out, as somebody who totally respects and very much enjoys what Elizabeth Gilbert brings to the world and her readers, that her use of the word "narcissist" at about 1 hour, is narcissism in it's most simplistic form and is not really a description of the disorder at all. Those who've been on the receiving end of narcissistic behavior know that it is about way more than pride and ego. It is about power, control, entitlement, manipulation and having no respect for the boundaries of others. I worry sometimes that people confuse healthy self-esteem and self-care as "narcissism" when true narcissism is destructive and harmful and also not always very obvious.
It's true...my religion ( Islam) says that...not only your qualities but Your problems your turbulence have also been tailor made according to your capacity...so even it might be difficult for some really blessed people to love others, while some really abused people will be willing to give and love more, it's more about understanding your self what you can take or not, some times we are kinder because it gives us better sleep, being unkind is not a thing for us ...
I swear she makes me feel better no matter what is going on with me. It's amazing how she touches so many women and men through her wit, her poise and her wisdom.

BRAVO FOR SHARING!!! 🤗
Why we do need marriage for? You are very right just enjoy your life as much as you can. We're here not for anything else. We have to believe that from our heart. Go girl go. Thanks for your contribution
Marriage is grown up - the rest is just playing house.

Oh please, stop lying. I bet you yourself don’t even want to have a wife..
@@teragram8006 I don't want to marry anyone. Marriage is for people who take responsibility and understand what a vow is.
Marriage is the foundational commitment of family which is the foundation for community and society. If you have ever seen the stability of a lifelong loving commitment you would not ask what is it needed for.
Why have kids if you're not married first? It makes a huge difference. You're not having kids with your friend.
what a gift she is!
Dandelion Greens agreed! I also want to add Narcissism is a type of psychopathy where the individual lacks any compassion, sympathy or empathy.
@@fineartlifestyling Yes, good point thank you for adding that!
Thanks to anyone who wants to literally support me. If you want to extend more than common courtesy, that's your choice.
This is Great
Superb, she certainly lives her life.
God let her talk!!!!!!
Love her!
