You need to let it warm up before closing the bypass damper. We have one as well and love it. Puts out a ton of heat!

@@topsaw the catalyst needs to be about 500 degrees befor you engage it for it to work properly from what I understand.

The temperature probe on the back bottom of the stove shows the operating range of the catalytic.
Check it 5 minutes after closing the bypass damper. If the probe indicates the temp is below the operate catalyst range, open the damper again to increase heat, and add wood if necessary. After the heat increases, close the damper, wait 5 mins, and check the probe again.
If the probe indicator is above the operate catalyst range, decrease the primary air adjustment. If the catalytic combustor gets too hot for too long it could be damaged. Never add wood if the probe reads above the operate catalyst range!

So, do you close down the top vent during the day or only overnight.

The first burn inside? Was it stinky from the paint?

Be warned. After decades of using Vermont Castings stoves for serious heating, we tried the "new and improved" Flexburn Encores to replace a well used and self rebuilt Encore from the original makers of VC. BOTH Encores were uncontrollable; the primary air control did not function with over burn and dangerous fires. The dealer techs could not repair either Encore. The stoves were returned with an ethical dealer refunding our payments. The VC people were unresponsive with NO customer service..
Note: it is a pretty stove. NOT for what the original designers engineered their stoves for: real heat. For entertainment or weekend or intermittent heat perhaps OK. We chose Jotul wood stoves which have been burning for our 99% wood heat for years now.

I hope you are taking advantage of the Governments 30% back on your taxes for purchasing a eco efficient wood stove. This stove qualifies for that rebate. Ask your tax person. I received about a third back and that includes installation. I have the same stove.
