There has to be another one. Mark my words it will surface one day. It's more than likely sitting in a box that no one has gone through yet somewhere. In the next 10 years it will be found. Today's date: 2/27/20 2:08pm
Before Final Fantasy VII, the series was a Nintendo exclusive. The shift to the Playstation was due to Nintendo's decision not to have the N64 use CD-based media. Had the Nintendo/SONY partnership continued, Nintendo may have decided to make the N64 CD-based, and Square would have had no reason to move the series away from Nintendo. In fact, the N64 was more powerful than the PS1, but shot itself in the foot with the continued use of cartridges due to the lower storage potential. Had we got a CD-based N64, we could have had an even greater version of Final Fantasy VII. Of course, there could have been a scenario where the Nintendo Playstation got released and Nintendo still made the N64 cartridge based. This would have likely caused Square to turn to SEGA who had the CD-based Saturn. The Saturn was initially very popular in Japan and without the Playstation to compete with, it might have been a bigger success despite all of SEGA's bad decisions. This being said the Saturn, despite being more powerful than the PS1 on paper, was very hard to work with. This may have led to either an inferior version of FFVII.
SONY worked the deal in such a way that they would get the lion's share of the profits. They didn't give up on Nintendo, but they were still the reason the deal didn't go through. They pretty much gave Nintendo no choice but to back out.
This was a great editorial video. I heard about this device several times and wondered about it. Now at 300,000 to 400,000 for the device. It’s definitely legit. (:

Other than the fact that chris should have wore some pasties in his shirt, I don't see why there are dislikes for this. This was a well put together assessment of the Nintendo Playstation.
Can we really say that there were any losers from all this? PlayStation is obviously a huge success still today, and consoles like the Wii and Switch (but perhaps not the WiiU) iirc have been the best selling consoles of their respective generations - albeit Nintendo deciding to follow its slightly own path now, rather than competing with the other two directly.

I truly do appreciate it, but I'm just a little confused as to what we're going to get from the channel in the future. Maybe split this off into another channel? (I'd certainly subscribe...) Thanks for your work, man. You and Cherlynn are two of my favorite YT contributors, and I love what you guys do at Engadget. Peace, mate.
OMG the CDi get's soo much shit for no good reason. the 1st party games weren't good because phillips was a hardware maker with good intentions but no experience. The console was actually pretty good and sold fairly well in The Netherlands. As a "Game Console" it was actually decent with good graphics, many controller options including a large trackball good for games like Zork, and its VCD like movie format was actually good compared to DVD. If they teamed up with Commodore, they would have had a better long run.
This console is the reason gaming consoles are as big as they are today Sony come along and completely took over the game! Even today they well outsell Nintendo and even Microsofts XBOX
They was screwing Nintendo trying to kill them off then because sales would have favored CD because you could fit a lot more data and other things so game developers would have favored the disc. That was the beginning of Sony's assault on Nintendo that exist till this day. What keeps Nintendo alive is having the strongest first party lineup of games there is with the highest quality control at least for the fun factor of younger and a general audience and Mario is more Iconic than Micky Mouse. More cool too. Parents favor getting their youngest console a Nintendo because most games for families and children are A++ quality and while Sony has some games for younger audiences they don't have as many A++ titles for that age range. Games like Mario favor a more general audience such as families with Young children and then when they get to teenage age. They want a PlayStation or Xbox. While i don't want to own my own Nintendo so much because im in to games suitable for adults i do still enjoy a Nintendo game such as Mario or Metroid and you can't go wrong with Mario Kart. My family wasn't strict on Mature games. I had Doom II Hell on Earth for pc the dos version when i was a kid and Mortal Kombat 2 and stuff. Killer instinct and other bloody games. May have been 14 because that's when Doom II came out. We skipped Doom.
I think Nintendo doesnt do a whole lot of good desicions, like their greedy behavior, if a gamecompany goes down during my lifetime its most likely nintendo
What rock have you been living under? The only real bad decision they made in recent times was the Wii U and they were making enough money from their handhelds that it was barely a blip on their finances. Nintendo makes decisions you don't like, but it doesn't make them bad decisions. Yes, the Wii used underpowered hardware, this brought the costs down and lead it to become the better-selling console when compared to the Xbox 360 and PS3. This is because Nintendo plays it safe, it's not always the best thing for the consumer but in terms of business, they have done well because of it. Yes, Nintendo does have a lot of greedy practices but so does SONY and Microsoft. Do not kid yourself into thinking that any of the big three is any less greedy than the other. Nintendo isn't going anywhere anytime soon, it doesn't matter how much you hate them. If businesses went under just because someone hated them, there wouldn't be any left.

I remember seeing these in gaming magazines in 1993. How cool of a device to possibly come out.
It sold for $300k, and considering the owner was given $1,000,000+ offers, that’s a rough day at the office.
Surely if he received multiple million dollar offers those same people would have bidded at the auction?
Well this was self proclaimed by the owner himself (rip). He could’ve of course embellished the offers
Sony didn’t give up on Nintendo . Nintendo pulled out at ces and said yeah we are going with Phillips
