- Mercedes-Benz has decided that four-cylinders are not as good as eight-cylinders, which is odd, becuase we knew that all along. So what's this about?

Mercedes realise they screwed up. They went WOKE and went BROKE
As with all companies that have gone woke, Disney, bud light, etc. They are told by Blackrock what to do.

Not in the least bit surprised!
And the worst bit is the running costs no doubt.

If they tried tae seize any of my cars, and I have a few including Avenger's, Mk2 Cavalier's, Daimler X308 and Series 3 Landy with 200tdi, all h**l would be let loose.
If they started seizing petrol cars how would you fill up?
There is a difference between them seizing cars, and me filling up. Plus they have already started developing synthetic petrol.
Nothing makes my day so much as trundling along in my TD5 with an EV behind me without a cat in hells chance of overtaking.
Mind you the same applies to the "go faster" types in their Audis. 😄
You will be saving the planet far more by doing that.

Fantastic news, Geoff! Down with the little engines.
W204 C63 was mine, Geoff. The noise off the trees of the 6.2 NA V8 going past Alcester each day on my commute makes we want another. It's the noise and connection that people want, not the massive power where you can not use it as everyone seems happy driving at 40 mph everywhere, irrespective if it is a 30 or 60 mph area.
"everyone seems happy driving at 40 mph everywhere". Perhaps you ought to leave Warwickshire and come over to Worcestershire, because very few are like that here or over the frontier into Herefordshire.

Oh whatever.
It's labelled 6.3.
But was actually 6.2
More precisely 6,208 cc, they name it after Red Pig SEL 63, where they change size from 6330cc to 6835cc 😅
I remember when my mum's partner got a hybrid Range Rover to test and it was the world of both worlds. When you haven't got electric (which was like 20 miles of range) you just had a tiny engine with no power...... So he ditched it and went for a Diesel again and the garage said their hybrids were not selling lol.
It's not only that, when you are on the highway the battery is no use so you are lugging around a huge toxic anchor which further reduces mpg. They are a terrible idea.
C63 AMG V8 has been a top seller , MB needs to continue the V8 in the C class.
My 20 year old CLK55 AMG is a fantastic machine.
I do have to say this blog has made my day. Combustion engines bigger and better. Im hugging myself with joy at the news and anticipation. We need to get ready to fight the idiots who legislate against this stuff, in an insane unproven policy of net zero. Khant will no doubt have his doctored figures at hand on how single handedly he has improved London air quality. Cars running slower standing longer cannot see that.
Their biggest problem?
They sound like a standard rep wagon.
Well done Mercedes. 👏👏👏

I had the car in the thumbnail for 4 years, 560 SEC widebody, black on black with a great soundtrack
When was that…? They were / are epic cars
@@GeoffBuysCars sold it 2 years ago. The widebody panels were fiberglass but the front, rear, skirts, spoiler and steering wheel were the real deal. Got a couple of videos of it on my channel. I'm somewhat of a TVR guy (they're rare here in Norway) I now have a LHD Griff 5 liter nearing completion and a 4.5 Cerbera that I'm going over to Shropshire to pick up in june :)
BTW the "proper" AMG cars are the pre 2000 ones, before AMG just became a department in Mercedes. But Mercedes have just done the same as what BMW did - realised they could sell an AMG spec or an M spec as an options bundle to hike the price. If you really want a performance Mercedes, though, you should buy a Brabus.
Or a pre merger AMG, like the hammer. Unfortunately these are now only for millionaires.
My son has a c63 AMG 4.0Litre v8 , it’s a great sound track . He thought his bmw M4 was a car till he got this .
What's the word on leasing companies in the UK? A rental / leasing company here in Norway just went bankrupt. Reasons were global economy and the price of used cars. Nearly all of thier cars were EVs and a few hybrids. To me this was not surprising.
Prices being slashed, there is a channel devoted to it on yt. Imagine leasing a car for £1100 per month over 2/3 years, then six months later it is £450 per month! Hopefully ours will go the same way. I am pretty sure a big online car sales company just went down the toilet.
But I thought Norway loved EV's and the govt. gave people rebates to make them cheaper ?
What the f!ck went wrong then ?
Just asking.
@@gregorygant4242 Reality is happening
@gregorygant4242 people have brains and know that EV's generally don't work for 90% of people. The ONLY people having them are businesses because of tax breaks and taxi drivers being forced.

I once watched F1 but the tv volume seamed to be on the blink, I thought this is actually boring with no engine noise. Then a commentator spoke and I found out it was something called Formula E, needles to say I changed channel.
Yeah, just like in a movie scene where through a beautiful treed landscape you can hear a V8 approaching, echoing through a valley. Pure art.
Honestly the loudest EV I've ever heard in person is the Taycan, its motors actually sounds like its got a bit more boom unlike most of the washing machines on wheels of its vehicle type. But yea engine variety is always better than no variety
I love noise
That and speed for 10 miles before coming to a halt is fkn pointless

I bought the last of the naturally aspirated V8’s and it was incredible when you fired it up. I went to look at another only to find it has a poxy little engine and battery! WTAF… You forgot why we buy these things. It’s the feel and theatre, not fuel economy FFS.
These days Mercedes also does a 3 liter 6 in-line, BMW like. But I'd like to see a model with the naturally aspired version of it, why not in the class C ?
Indeed. I love my w205 C63 with its 4.0 Twin turbo V8. My son calls it the growler which makes me laugh. Thank god he can’t spell growler into google. I’d have to sell my C63 for something less vaginistic or else his mother would find out.

Simple to predict; V8 will sell like hotcakes, V6 will do decent, and the PHEV pffft will tank.

There should be a rollback of all EVs and let them compete with petrol and diesel and let customers decide. I think German car-makers are starting to fight back against the EV rubbish. 👍

After the big cough of 2020 there was a period where a 4.0 V8 c63 was for sale for months, the price eventually dropped as low as £21,000 and eventually sold.
I thought wow I might be able to afford one in a few years time, then the c63 hybrid was announced. The cars I'd been watching sold rapidly at the lower prices and higher mile cars were now commanding much more money. The price of decent shape cars increased around £10k in no time.

I had a C6 three with the 6.2 in it. Glorious car! Next car was a CLS 63 with the 5.5 biturbo. Also a great car but I went to large and luxury. Next? AMGGTC convertible as I sail into the youth of my senior years
Don't care how much power a hybrid 4 makes, it will never sound as good and never be as cool as a V8. Also the 4.0 V8 turbos will never have the charm or value of the 6.2 L NA V8s as they are starting to become collectible
Both are a step behind the 5.5 V8TT in my CLS Shooting Brake AMG 63S... That is a serious engine with an awesome soundtrack 😉
I met a couple last night who drive a Honda Insight, 20 years old hybrid, and they're just about to replace the battery for about $3,400. Battery lasts 150,000 miles. They get 50mpg city/70mph freeway.
I would expect better economy from a car like that, I have a 1990's Toyota with a 2.5TT i6 that can do almost 50mpg highway.
Talking about numbers equating to engine size imagine my disappointment when i stumbled on the Audi A1 3.5
Thank goodness.
It was an absolutely crackpot idea to replace a V8 with a 4 cylinder PHEV.
There's a market for performance cars with 4 cylinder hybrid engines, just not in an AMG badged 63 car.
I was at the Nordschleife in late March and there was a shakedown running for the NLS series. Porsche were running, as were Fiat with their 488s, but the AMG V8 GT3s were filling the concourse with a brilliant V8 rumble each time they passed the main straight on the GP Strecke. I wouldn't ever buy a Mercedes, but those V8 GTs do sound wonderful
Not and AMG but have always loved and driven several (having worked in the motor industry in the past for over 20 years) the Mercedes 190E Cosworth. Awesome car.

it would be even better without the turbos, a good v8 has no need for turbos, it kills the sound and adds pointless wear to a glorious creation, Supercharger ftw though
AMG, ST, M, GR etc should all be reserved for actual performance cars. The badges now mean less as they tend to just be a trim spec now!
I honestly have no problem with the 63 models going hybrid. Sure, the hybrid components add some complications but just as long as there's a V8 under the hood, I'm content.
All AMG 63`s had originally in fact a 6.2 litre naturally aspired V8`s - Go figure AMG logic! Later they reduced displacement but added turbos for ever increased BHP but kept the label - even weirder.

It was incredibly arrogant for some of these OEM’s to think they can disregard the reasons why actual car people buy cars. It’s the same as sports series who chase the casual fan over the enthusiast.
They should have seen it coming when Porsche changed the 2.5T flat four 718GTS back to a 4.0 N/A flat 6.

My favourite AMG isn't actually an AMG! it's the very early 90's touring car 190e EVO 2, if ever I have a spare £250,000 I would try and buy one, but I doubt that'll ever happen.
You could rescue an unloved 190E/D, body kit it and put a powerful engine in it. I know it ain't the same but could be done for £20-30k.
